holy fuck, why have I not heard of this?
>uprezzed models actually look decent
>old painted backgrounds persist, without too much jarring contrast
as someone who played the original only a few years ago and
never finished it,will this be worth the money? was there any story stuff I forgot/never reached that's likely to get the modern 'tolerance' treatment?
and yes, the contrast in some places is a bit glaring, but it was in the original as well. This is a far cry from that RPGmaker FF 'update' that /v/ had a field day with recently.
>ld painted backgrounds persist, without too much jarring contrast
It would be fine if it weren't for the seams and scaling artifacts. If they just used nearest neighbor or integer scaling I would be fine, but holy shit it looks like that god awful ffv remake screenshot where everything is in tiny boxes and you can see the edges don't match up
yes, as I said in my second post it's clearly there, but it always was. it may be a little more obvious now, but hardly a dealbreaker, at least for me.
I never finished it and I fucking hate sony controllers
I'm sad FF9 is never going to get a new localization. Most of the references were lost since we either never got some of the games the games (2, 3, 5) or the localization was so bad you really couldn't refencence it well (4 and 7) outside of "that giant sword remind me of a spikey hair dude"
I'm glad but I don't understand how this exists. They threw the source code for FFIX away. I wonder if the 20GB filesize is because they just tacked all sorts of shit onto a PS1 rom.
FFX is next in a few months.
And then a FFXII remaster, but probably only after a year of console exclusivity.
>buying games you can emulate for free
I liked FF9, it was pretty cool. This track was amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUrC5R30Ofk
Played it when I used to go into that strange dungeon thing in FF11 expansion.
Original res looks better in PS games with prerendered graphics. This hacky shit is crap, and just like with FFVI on Steam, Square Enix Goya prove that they don't understand what an aesthetic or an art style is.
Protip retard, you can play FF7 and FF8 PC ports in 640x480 so as to not have disconnected between too smooth/clear models and low res backgrounds. I can guarantee you that you will be able to play FF9 PC port in 640x480 as well, as you should.
sure thing m8
thats a nice b8
You both should check my 8
I'll give it this; higher resolution rendering of the character models combined with sharper textures makes them look like early PS2 models, surprisingly. On the other hand, they stick out like a sore thumb even WORSE than the FF7 port's models did due to a higher rendering resolution for models in contrast to the prerendered backgrounds.
>I'll give it this; higher resolution rendering of the character models combined with sharper textures makes them look like early PS2 models
They are actual new models, not just old models being renderered in high res. You can emulate in high res and the original models will never look this good.
Shit, looking at >>323005387 I realize they actually did increase the polygons and redrew the textures. Surprising amount of effort for a port they're doing themselves compared to just taking the work of others almost two decades ago and patching it up.
The only reason they're putting in effort is because they also had to recode if from scratch by reverse engineering the original due to losing the source code. They had to do the exact same thing with Kingdom Hearts 1 HD which also had them improve main character and important NPC models while they were at it.
95% of the list is still there, literally only a few are missing so you're a fucking idiot if you want whole game retranslated just becasue few miniscule references are missing despite the game being still nothing but references anyway.
I did this in literally 10 minutes with upscaling of a 640X480 jpg I found on google image and then dropped some filters so it didn't look like a pixelated mess. Does it look good? Fuck no, it looks like Picasso threw up on a snes filter but I feel like it doesn't look nearly as jarring. If they had kept what was the original renders and did some post processing it could look WAY better. At this point just emulate the damn game because changing the character models and then leaving all the pre-rendered background the same looks weird as hell.
The seams are a problem but overall the backgrounds look nicer than it does emulated. Best thing will be the character models not jittering around constantly.
>that one screenshot
I think they made her ass more plump.
Aren't the backgrounds drawn in higher res then scaled down for Playstation resolution? No fucking way they were drawn at 320x240 or whatever it is. The high-res backgrounds should be archived somewhere. They should just slap those in.
