Why do people like these boring retarded characters so much? Nero I can let slide because she HAS a personality, but suffers from clone syndrome. Saber is some "strong white woman who don't need no man" retard. Does a bunch of stupid shit that gets people hurt or killed. Don't pull that "cute shit" either. Plenty of generic blondes out there are "cute" but at least have something going for them.
I'm a sucker for lady knights. Can't help but love Saber.
It's not even that, nowadays if you demand a higher standards for female characters in terms of personality, that's enough to get you branded as a SJW and have any further opinions disregarded, so in order not to upset /v/, it's easier to stay as simple as possible.
Of course. Saber is just the big thing right now.
That's because you need the "perfect girl" that is Saber so as to appreciate the contrast that is "best girl". Pic related.
Now I know you're all going to shit-post about who the actual the best girl is but let's go over what Rider is for a moment. She's a gorgon-vampire-librarian-rapist bondage-fetishist who spends most of the downtime driving anything with wheels (and some things without) or loafing around the house taking a bath, drunk, and/or reading.
Like, not all of that does something for me. But that's a fucking ridiculous character.
Rider is possibly the only good thing to come out of Fate.
Nero only suffers from clone syndrome in that her design is the requisite "Takeuchi was involved so we have to satisfy his saberboner," her personality is entirely different from Saber's and honestly the greatest offense done is that she isn't her own entire character.
Saber on the other hand has a lot character and there's depth to explore in her ideal of a selfless king. However, her characterization is hidden within the shittiest route of the VN and fucking Takeuchi makes sure she keeps getting shoehorned into everything where her character is either ignored, undeveloped, or forced into a plot to the point where she becomes annoying.
It doesn't help when most people are introduced to the franchise by Fate/Zero, which was written by a third party author with a hateboner for any character that isn't a soulless egoist, which is why it wanked Kirei and took time out of the plot to make Saber and Kiritsugu look more retarded than they already were.
tl;dr good actors bad agents.
The problem is that in the time it takes to make a deep character (through multiple episodes/seasons, games, books, etc.) that goes through dynamic changes (or remains fairly static as we just learn more about them) people are already fucking bored and you don't get to make another book/season.
The problem is that people need amazing characters IMMEDIATELY. From the get-go they're the chosen one, gifted, a prodigy, apprenticed to the greatest, or is simply a Han Solo (sort of character). Infrequently does someone start from being a shit and grows into something incredible.
I would have disagreed with you many years ago when the series was just the VN, a ridiculous pile of doujins, a shitty anime adaption, and the fans were unified. But when you put into context the scope of most things that have come out recently, you're probably right.
I like characters that are silent or are really outrageous like Gat.
>mfw Sakura is in fact best girl
>mfw Sakura and Rider are basically a package deal
>Caster never believed a magus would ever stoop to using their own fists
I CAST FIST
>implying rin wouldn't take any opportunity given to her to slap in luvia's drill headed shit
i mean, mages won't NORMALLY result to physical shit. But sometimes, you just gotta smack a ho
>he hasn't read Apocrypha
The saints do it themselves, no shit-posting required
>Too bad about what happened with the second part.
Like you, I spent way too much.. energy on the first one. I caved and bought the second. It was so bad.
And guess what? There's a third! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1424848194/aching-dreams-3-the-dark-planet
