The aesthetic of the second game really put me off at first, it was indistinct and overly childish looking, like it was targeted specifically at small children. Dont get me wrong, the first game had some fun shit going on with the designs too but the 2nd game dialed it up to 10. I remember that alone putting me off the game. It went from "fantasy anime" aesthetic, to "anime where the world is colorful and everything has a wacky design" aesthetic. Looking at main characters alone the first game has more memorable designs.

TLDR; the overall design of the game is very different from the first game, and most people didnt like it.
It has better gameplay Id say, but the design of a game is a big factor in alot of peoples enjoyment, and I myself hated the goofyness of the new world. It went from Ghibli to Disney with its designs direction.

The spooky and misterious atmosphere the first game had at the beginning is unmatched, but it quickly dissipated. The second one had a much more cheerful and colorful presentation that only grew on me over time. Overall I'd say the second one had the most staying power on me over time.

The only problems I had with the second game were not having that socket based weapon upgrades the first one had and no NPCs walking around the towns you build. That second issue is really my only big gripe with the game, made the towns feel lifeless, Other than that it's pretty much superior in every way to the first.

sorry I only have time for 4chan for free time but I will talk about 2 things not many people know about

first is the Knight boots (pic related) you make it and you can break it down to create attack bonuses for any weapon so you can quickly upgrade weapons with less level ups if needed.

second is the trophies metals you get when you do the mini games in levels that you then trade for rare clothing items (or item name changer that you can turn into any item which is pretty cool) from mayor in the train. The best thing you should do if you like clothing options is each item is very costly. around 40 metals each which takes some time to acquire. And to accumulate enough for a full costume is retarded. So get 40 metals save your game. Create another save file, buy shoes or whatever. Save that on another file and keep doing that until you have different items on all the saves you want. Start a new game and all the clothing options will be there. I made a full clown Max And a full sexy panther Monica.

No, you're literally wrong. Dark Cloud 1 and 2 both have "town completion" bonuses for the player. Dark Cloud 1 had no such thing as a "culture" system because there was no "Culture Points". All you did was follow villager requests like the old lady wanting to be in front of Dran's Windmill. Dark Cloud 2 required you to amass "Culture Points" by customizing the appearance of your villages.

It was for me, I hated the jungle, even though the end part had decent enemies to grind for weapon synth for toaddie. You should really go back and at least get out off the jungle planet. If afterwards you still don't like it, you at least got to see the game at it's best.
