Now, i like that Dark Cloud got a ps4 remaster, but why DC1 and not its much superior sequel? pic related, one of the most underrated games ever
>Tfw no Dark Cloud 3 ever because Professor Layton had to take center stage forever
xiao has like 4 lines of dialogue when she first appears and that's it. besides the annoying comments she makes while you use her in dungeons.
you're just mindlessly defending the first game. a true hipster.
10 year old me broke his ps2 while my dad was away and managed to fix it by raiding a hardware store for the right screwdrivers and cleaning that fucking laser diode.
10 year old me liked that game
Just look at their eyes, you just know they banged.
Look at all this shit taste.
Because the sequel was shit. The first game was about exploring a weird world and dungeoning + town and culture building
the 2nd game was about shitty piano music some old japanese guys daughter probably played and running around having a shrugging shoulder animation with every locked door. And shitty cutscenes no one gives two cents worth of shit about. And stupid giant fish and elves and a horrible story. 2 was shit, it's one of those shitty games that you can't figure out why people like, just like SotC, ICO and okami.
>The first game was about exploring a weird world and dungeoning + town and culture building.
Second game does that too. It's like Fallout 4 in world building aspect but actually in a good game compared to Bethesda's latest pile of dog shit.
The aesthetic of the second game really put me off at first, it was indistinct and overly childish looking, like it was targeted specifically at small children. Dont get me wrong, the first game had some fun shit going on with the designs too but the 2nd game dialed it up to 10. I remember that alone putting me off the game. It went from "fantasy anime" aesthetic, to "anime where the world is colorful and everything has a wacky design" aesthetic. Looking at main characters alone the first game has more memorable designs.
TLDR; the overall design of the game is very different from the first game, and most people didnt like it.
It has better gameplay Id say, but the design of a game is a big factor in alot of peoples enjoyment, and I myself hated the goofyness of the new world. It went from Ghibli to Disney with its designs direction.
The spooky and misterious atmosphere the first game had at the beginning is unmatched, but it quickly dissipated. The second one had a much more cheerful and colorful presentation that only grew on me over time. Overall I'd say the second one had the most staying power on me over time.
The only problems I had with the second game were not having that socket based weapon upgrades the first one had and no NPCs walking around the towns you build. That second issue is really my only big gripe with the game, made the towns feel lifeless, Other than that it's pretty much superior in every way to the first.
I know everything about this game and went through it probably 8 times. I have the stratagy guide and its crumbling from so much use. If there is anything anyone wants to know about the game just ask. I have probably over 700 hours in it. Holy shit I love Dark Cloud 2 why is there no other game like it? It is perfection
Wait wait wait wait the fuck up my nigga hol up I said hol up homie. What the fuck do you mean remaster?? Like that shit where you can buy your ps2 games again and they're like 1080p or an actual "real" remaster?
>Look how much of an hipster faggot I am.
I have a question, since you love this game so much, any chance you'd be willing to help out on the Dark Cloud wiki? Or anyone else for that matter. I picked it up relatively recently and it's in a terrible state, we need quality writers.
Wiki at http://darkcloud.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges. Steam = Dweezle92 for those who want to talk shop. Or you can just check my userpage, I'm the latest editor.
>add voice acting
>generic cell shaded graphics that don't try to maximize the hardware and look it's best
>only 2 party members
>stupid fucking anime plot
>music isn't even as good
But the VA isn't bad, the graphics look fine, the 2 party members with actual progression is better than 8 with none, the plot is as good as any other RPG released at the time, and the music is GOAT.
Besides, they got Mark Hamil to VA for them.
>add voice acting
nothing wrong with that
>generic cell shaded graphics
For 2002 cell shaded was pretty original. Can't be generic if it's among the first of its kind.
>only 2 party members
And the game doesn't suffer from this. One of the biggest problems in dark cloud was your less used party members becoming weak because you never used them and they added nothing to the plot the majority of the time. Dark Cloud 2 lets you focus on 2 characters (Three if you count steve).
>stupid fucking anime plot
And Dark Cloud's plot isn't an anime plot either?
>music isn't even as good
that's a lie
>only two party members
>a bad thing
Yeah I sure loved keeping track of 8 different characters when only two of them were marginally useful. Oh boy and I sure loved the "SWITCH TO THIS CHARACTER TO PRESS THIS BUTTON" shit in dungeons.
Dark Cloud 2 is the literal perfect example of streamlining being an improvement.
I love the series, but fuck you asshole.
Oh shit! You're taking a walk in the woods and suddenly
>BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
sorry I only have time for 4chan for free time but I will talk about 2 things not many people know about
first is the Knight boots (pic related) you make it and you can break it down to create attack bonuses for any weapon so you can quickly upgrade weapons with less level ups if needed.
second is the trophies metals you get when you do the mini games in levels that you then trade for rare clothing items (or item name changer that you can turn into any item which is pretty cool) from mayor in the train. The best thing you should do if you like clothing options is each item is very costly. around 40 metals each which takes some time to acquire. And to accumulate enough for a full costume is retarded. So get 40 metals save your game. Create another save file, buy shoes or whatever. Save that on another file and keep doing that until you have different items on all the saves you want. Start a new game and all the clothing options will be there. I made a full clown Max And a full sexy panther Monica.
enjoy. If you already realized this obviously whatever. Its still pretty cool. Love this game. I would kill for a good 3rd game
Only difference is that Emperor Griffin is bae~
Fuck your memegoat.
>One of the biggest problems in dark cloud was your less used party members becoming weak because you never used them and they added nothing to the plot the majority of the time.
That's one of my big problems with the first game, you get a character and then they just fuck off in the plot for the rest of the game.
This occurred to me recently as well.
don't get me wrong, I liked Dark Chronicle a lot more than Undertale. I'm sorry if my observation annoyed you.
Rebuilding the garden is one of my favourite video game memories.
Wow well fuck you RG is one of my favorite PS2 games. You must be a goddamn millennial.
>this picture has been in my computer for over a fucking decade
fucking hell I used to spend hours fishing in dark cloud 2
No, you're literally wrong. Dark Cloud 1 and 2 both have "town completion" bonuses for the player. Dark Cloud 1 had no such thing as a "culture" system because there was no "Culture Points". All you did was follow villager requests like the old lady wanting to be in front of Dran's Windmill. Dark Cloud 2 required you to amass "Culture Points" by customizing the appearance of your villages.
>only 2 party members
Those two party members had more personality and weapon variety than all of the cast in the original game combined.
Maybe you hipster faggots have some problems with our long-term memory but I can remeber that the catgirl, the genie, the nigger, and the smg midget were horrible to play as.
I also remember that most of the party members disappeared from the story as soon as their chapter was over and the catgirl might not even have been in the game at all for all the impact she had on the story.
Biggest and most gaping flaw with all these neat new features is that the town you made had no NPCs walking about it, while the first game did. Even if it had less features the first games town actually felt like a town and not a set piece. So sad because the new features are great.
yes Dark Cloud 2 is by far the comfiest came next to Deadly Premonition and Mega Man Legends
>All of the ranged characters were horrible to play as
In the game where melee attacks had to be done to animation-frame precision or you risk breaking your +13 Sword of Assrape in two blocks? And the people who didn't have to worry about endurance, including guy who can move AND shoot at the same time, was problematic?
That entire chapter of the game was one big feel.
Starlight Temple was always relaxing for me, all throughout my life.
The tears are warm, anon.
Surely you're not implying the rest of the characters had some deep mechanics to how you used them in dungeons?
And are we really down to complaining about wHP?
Though for that last one it would be the first time in this thread.
Tween hero, sexy genie, and space rabbit are the only people that deserve to be upgraded in Dark Cloud 1. The other boot lickers can hold out for treasure chest weapons and the spare Synthsphere that you keep around for the mandatory dungeon stages.
Can this dude not read? He said RG was ONE of his favorite games on PS2. Not his favorite game.
I don't know, it's just thta the only thing I remeber about Osmond is that I found him the most boring character to play as along with the catgirl. It's probably because I'm more of a melee guy.
Also I'm kind of a hoarder and had to use repair powder so much more often with him, which is something I don't like.
It's just personal preference really.
Go to bed kid, christmas vacation is over.
I bought Rogue Galaxy but found it didn't have that same feeling of comfy, charming atmosphere that the Dark Cloud games had. I never got far into because it just didn't sit right with me
It's a real shame, Dark Chronicle is my favourite game of all time
Am I crazy for thinking this? I only got to the jungle village planet, where everyone is an asshole
>Learn how to suck dick or I'll use your asshole next time, and it won't be pleasant.
Who talks like that? Honestly. Fuck off lord autism.
Not at all. Rogue was Level-5's largest and most ambitious game at that time so I'm sure there's at least one segment in the game someone didn't like. The jungle was tedious but the game really opens up once you get to Zerard, plus that fucking music.
I'll never understand this, Monica and Max were perfect hybrids of existing characters. Besides, everyone only ever used Toan, Osmond, and Ruby fucking anyway.
Max = Toan + Osmond
Monica = Toan + Ruby
I would say that Max is more like Goro + Osmond, except with real combos instead of a dumb hammer jump thing.
He even ends some of his combos with the jump thing if you have a hammer type weapon, and shares weapons with Goro.
>If I tell him that wasn't me I'll feel superior and safe. Just like how I feel in my autism fort I made in the living room.
It was for me, I hated the jungle, even though the end part had decent enemies to grind for weapon synth for toaddie. You should really go back and at least get out off the jungle planet. If afterwards you still don't like it, you at least got to see the game at it's best.
The only shit part about DC1 was having to switch between characters on the same floor, to open a door or jump a gap. It was just tedious. I was totally fine with the floors restricted to characters but the switching was tedious.
>Sony experience ends off with a trailer for a long awaited game
>Holy fuck Dark Cloud 3 is happening
>Nino Kuni 2
>mfw DC3 will forever be thrown away for mediocre trash
I don't understand, it's not even like the games were badly received, I mean the titanic boss in the first game was kinda bullshit, but that was about the only thing that pissed me off about the series. Like what the fuck Level-5 just make the third installment already.
Literally the only flaw in Dark Cloud 2 is tgat Max and Monica's best melee weapons looked like joke weapons. LEGEND and Island King looked like shit.
Oh yeah and the Fruit of Eden glitch in chapter 3
>the Fruit of Eden glitch in chapter 3
I'm listening. Proceed.
There were two kind of swords in the game. One type that attacked faster and dealt less damage and another that attacked slower but dealt more damage, i call the latter heavy swords, the term is not canon or anything. Pretty much the same as wrenches and hammers for Max.
This makes me feel better about myself. For some reason i always feared eden fruits and ice cream/cakes could disappear forever and i always made sure to explore everything after i changed the future every single time.
