Last thread got archived, we were talking about the backgrounds scaling methods, which tools were you guys using?
Did the 2x upscaling twice with waifu2xddd. I can use it as a goddamn wallpaper.
I feel waifu2x is not the best choice for these backgrounds, because of the sharpening. nnedi3 was better, I just need to get started with the tools and wait for the pc version to come out to see if the upscaled backgrounds can be injected somehow. Anybody willing to help?
This one was uploaded in the other thread, it looks good enough imho
Still better than this, not much you can do starting from a 320x240 picture
I find the results pretty decent considering the source pictures.
I'm never upscalling anything ever again in Photoshop.
posting from other thread
waifu is too good
are modders actually going to fix the game? that would be cool.
think emulating it would still be better for uncapping the frame rate though.
it's possible to replace the textures of any game.
Okay, cool thank you!
Yeah I suppose thats true but I don't have the wherewithal to do that on my own unfortunately. Maybe someone will come out with it after the FFIX PC version comes out, that would be great.
took the nnedi3 upscale and upscaled it with waifu for shits and giggles
If only we still had the original renders. Nah we're just fucking around. There is a project for ffvii where modders are recreating the prerendered backgrounds but until someone decides to do that we are stuck with the fucked up backgrounds in the steam version. >>322932597
Like what the fuck I can see seams in squares upscale and shit.
The original backgrounds are still out there though
Pretty crazy how people are already posting better backgrounds before the game is even out. I can understand why SE didn't want to do it though. Even though I think the edited images look way better.
I never beat IX. I had a burned copy as a kid but there was something wrong with it and when I got to the moment where you do a sort of mock 'battle' like a theater play the game would freeze any time one of the enemies did an "SFX" move.
>get addicted to playing tetra master
>grind to get more cards
Fuck this game how do they expect me to progress when the card game is more engaging than the actual story
I'm just using avisynth scripts because as far as I know there isn't an image software that uses nnedi3 (even though there should be). For this one I used
ImageSource("path to image here")
ConverttoYV12() ---(so I can use xsharpen)
nnedi3_rpow2(rfactor=8) ---(8x upscale using nnedi3)
sharpen(1) ---(generic sharpening)
xsharpen(60,60) ---(xsharpen plugin)
lanczos4resize(1088, 732) ---(downscaling back to 2x)
Theres a lot of documentation for avisynth I only kinda bumble through because I used to be interested in this kind of stuff. I'm not really sure how to render it just as an image file so I've been using MeGui to open the avs as a video and then just taking screenshots of the preview window.
does anyone known if the steam version will let me choose between playing the new hd etc stuff and playing the game exactly as it was?
also why the fuck are there 4gb of ram and directx 11 compatible reccomended requirements
No one cares about battle though. The only good potential for MP would be through Tetra Master or, if Square Enix suddenly decided they weren't lazy shits, a Festival of the Hunt style gamemode.
Honestly I'll just play the pc version as-is until graphic mods come out. Even with how many times I've played it on PS1, PS3, and with an emulator on pc, I would like to see how the definitive pc version plays.
save editor when?
I love FF9 as much as the next guy, but nigga that shit was awful. Inferior to triple triad in literally every way.
>Festival of the Hunt
now THIS i can get behind
>people who don't exist yet
I'll be waiting for someone to remake the backgrounds
Welp I'll die content knowing I never had to play with ffix pc's fucked up backgrounds.
I'll probably play it anyway
Cheapest and dirtiest way I could think of to counter the jarring contrast.
Honestly it doesn't look too bad its just why did they have to upscale it with those FUCKING SEAMS. Its like that goddamn ffv remake with the square blocks in the meteor. I'd rather it be low res than have to spot seams and artifacts.
it also fucks real customers. it fucks them more than pirates.
real customers will have to DL 20gb, pirates maybe 600 mb (i dunno how big the rom is, but fuck let's even say 2 gb). in total as usual pirates are better.
It took Square only about two years or less to render FF7 with 1996 tech, it shouldn't take too long to re render everything with modern tech right? Granted SE had a lot of people working on it and rendering farms, but still.
The problem is they lost the original assets.
Before you ask, "why would they lose it", think about it this way. The idea of the HD remaster was a completely foreign concept back then. Games were expected to die with their consoles, so why would they think they would ever use them again?
This is the best I can do with my knowledge of these kinds of tools
>It took Square only about two years or less to render FF7 with 1996 tech, it shouldn't take too long to re render everything with modern tech right? Granted SE had a lot of people working on it and rendering farms, but still.
It's just a lot of time and effort. So you need a bunch of people actively working at it.
I think it was RE2 where the total time to completion for a scene was 2 weeks.
And in the case of KH1, it wasn't really their fault. The guy in Square who had the disk with the assets left the company at that point, and they didn't know where he was, and only he knew where that disk was.
now THIS is a HD remake.. 10/10 would actually pay for again. i get pissed off seeing FF7 released on ps4, for £16.. its a 20 year old game i still have on disk for ps1, can emulate, and torrent for pc, But wait! new and improved for ps4. Shitty upscaled backgrounds and a fast forward button.. fuck off, why do i want to fast forward my game...
I went waifu2x, twice.
Started up FFIX on emulator and here is how it looks...
Wish they had the original cg background images to work with..
Waifu2x is magical.
