Been using a Razer Anasazi with silicon domes for ever.

Can anyone tell me whats so great about mechanical?

Seems like a nice keyboard but is there really a difference?

If it's a mechanical keyboard, you'll fall in love with it as you go. There's a certain tactile "tick" to it that is a press. I play with Gamer-Finger cherry switches in my arcade stick for fighting games, and to feel that same kind of confidence in knowing what I pressed will be responsive, as opposed to pressing a key (or button from a cherry switch that has a lot of travel before connecting) is frustrating when you 'think' you hit something you didn't. I suppose the same could be said with the keyboard in that.

As much as Razer gets a bad wrap, it might do some good to feel the keyboard out; at least open the doors to possibly fishing around for a higher quality keyboard later, you know?

Bonus: GF earns kudos from this anon. Sweet gift, despite the goon squad that will flame whatever you post. Forever.

At 22 I bet it gets infinitely tougher because all the women at bars are seasoned at getting action and they probably can spot an inexperienced guy a mile away.

Your best shot is to go to a college town, like a big one like Ames (Iowa) during a big football game or something. Walk around the streets until you see a house party. Produce a case of beer and youre in. Youre young enough to pull it off and if anyone asks say youre an engineering student (to explain the awkwardness) at some university on the east coast. Memorize some facts about the uni you are using ahead of time.

Works every time.
>>
>>322883452

lmao you bought a keyboard with Reds without doing your research about switch types. GJ.

Browns here, QPad MK80, considering the Ducky Mini with Clears/Browns as my next keyboard.

>>322882042
The advantage of mechanical keys is improved durability and improved haptic feedback, with a range of switches providing benefits for different purposes. Reds are good for gaming because theyre so light, Browns are good for gaming and typing, Blues are good for typing. Along these there are like 5 more MX types and a bunch of other switch types.

A Razer probably has Razers own switch types (Green or Orange), which are close to Reds. Be prepared to type badly, but play well.
>>
>>322885523
This is true.

Any /adv/ community on the internet is generally a bad place to go to for help in a relationship.

I mean think of who would commit time to a forum that focuses on relationship advice, especially ones where contributors dont get anything out of it.

-Psycopaths
-People who have had a series of shitty relationships themselves (and will offer shit advice)
-Hopeless romantics who dont understand the real world
>>
Do they sell these for $30? Or should I spend the money to get the keyboard+mouse combo?
>>
I don't know why people say reds are bad for typing. They're still better than domes. I can type 120 wpm no mistakes and 150 wpm with corrections on my reds. It really isn't a big deal. They're also better for gaming than blues.
>>
>>322885876

Of course they're better for gaming than Blues, Blues arent a gaming switch, they're a typing switch.
>>
>>322886112
It just seems like the way people try to portray reds as being absolute shit switches for anything but gaming even though you can still type at insanely fast speeds with no mistakes on reds for little practice.

They're just not optimal.

When I was in the market for a new keyboard, I was still a student, so I wanted something with good switches for video games AND typing. I knew Reds would be a bad pick because I'd spend half the time writing correcting, and frankly, I just wanted to get my work done.

Likewise, Im looking into learning programming, so Id still go for Browns or a similar switch.
>>
>>322886215
Depends what games you play.

If you play FPS games like Battlefield or CSGO then this will be inadequate.

You need at least 3 buttons on the side to switch between sidearms, knifes, grenades etc. Unless youre okay with playing on a game pad.

I also think you could do better for that price point, although I wouldnt be the best source for that kind of info.

ochochans tech board is a good place for this sort of thing.

Do some research on mechanical keyboards and their switches, decide which one you want to use, find a keyboard you like with as few bells & whistles as possible and is within your price range, and buy it.

Some good starts are, of course, Razer, CM Quickfire, Rosewill, Corsair K range, Ducky, Logitech (be careful), Filco and Das.

>>322887060
I actually am the designated AWPer for my team and I'm fucking good at it, too, and I don't use 3 thumb buttons to change weapons. I've never had an issue using 1-2-3 to change between equipment and I think you're selling yourself some snake oil, pal.

If you're sold on thumb buttons then at least bind them to useful equipment, like your grenades. Your own experience is your own experience, I just think that using the thumbs to change weapon is a bit unnecessary. My game massively improved after just configuring the sensor properly.

Because motherboard manufacturers frequently just dont bother with soundchips and the like. It's not uncommon, even high end motherboards they're just like "any audiophiles will bring their own EQ so meh"

Asus Xonar DSX was only £40 and I got my phones £50 off so it all ended well. Great sound quality, especially since I download in FLAC.

If you have headphones which connect via a 3.5mm jack and you wanna boost the volume, check your OS settings to make sure they're always outputting at 100% (right-click Speakers in tray > playback devices > select yours > properties, check settings)

Failing that, you could definitely benefit from a discreet soundcard since they usually feature amplification. The Xonar DGX would be a good pick up, pretty cheap, uses the same software as my DSX but only goes to 5.1 (enough for most), and features really good amplification. Honestly Im not a fan of heradsets myself, so I'd also recommend picking up some nice, comfy headphones like AudioTechnica, Beyerdynamic, or Sennheisers and a microphone (if you need one; Zalman Mic-1 is a favourite)

I'd also consult your doctor and just make sure there's nothing abnormal about your hearing. Yknow, make sure your ears arent blocked with wax or theres no issue with your eardrums or something.

Hope you resolve your issue!

Hasn't anybody discovered how to preserve the matte texture yet? kinda like how adding chromium to steel makes it into stainless steel.

It has nice response time, also when it comes to typing, you fuck up less. But that´s just from my experience.

Membrane is fine, and I see why people are against/dislike the idea of spending a buttload for a keyboard with colors and clicky clicky.

I mean the alternative is probably just making mice out of something more durable but then theyd be very heavy.

You pay £50 for a mouse that last a few years I think you'll be okay.

So the difference is in the feel of pressing the buttons? Because I really prefer a regular keyboard where you have to only lightly caress a button to receive input, any reason to switch to mechanical?

Improved durability and better purpose-specific variety of switches. Very light switches for gaming, or tactile ones for typing. Your choice.
