I feel like I nail almost all my shots with the default shotgun, but you hand me a gun that has the capacity to fire indefinitely and I become the Whiff King.

Shotgun is just as good. Even if you land all your shots widowmaker does have downsides, like not being able to spycheck, being out of a primary while building/repairing, and can't afford to do chip damage at longer ranges. Also when are you ever going to need more than 6 shots anyway? Engineer is too squishy to take on that many players at a time.

It's a gun that always sounds like it's gonna be more useful than it is, like you're gonna use it with the gunslinger to maximize damage and keep being able to throw new minis down.

Except you just whiff a couple of shots and suddenly you don't have a shotgun or a mini-sentry and you're fucked.
Then you try to set up a dispenser at a forward position for your team and right after there's someone up in your face and you don't have anything to shoot them with.

I suppose "git gud" is another option, but the default shotgun is more reliable even if you aren't.
