This might not be a bad game on its own but it ruined the Paper Mario games. The real fans of the series were expecting something like Paper Mario 64 and / or TTYD.

Sunshine generally has a negative reputation for the final 'boss'. Also perhaps full voice acting, as after the game, Nintendo never really did full voice acting for any future games.

Biggest issue of SPM was going 3D, it was wasted potential, and kinda looked ugly and barren as opposed to usual paper mario games.

I think it's just a bandwagon thing. People see others bashing the game and join in. I've never seen a solid argument against the game, it's always the same parroted BS.

Also, the metascore speaks for itself. It's a solid game with a couple 0 spammers. Half of these people claiming to hate it so much actually like it.

>No solid argument

>Fi handholding interrupting gameplay
>Same areas over and over
>Motion controls are not reliable and wear out the novelty in no time
>Sky is empty
>Repeated boss battles, especially the imprisoned
>Fucking tadtones

These are enough to ruin the game. There are positives, but SS is a mediocre game in general. At least the visuals are good, and the characters are charming.
>>
>>322873048
This game is great. Who hates it? All the Raiden haters? That's the fucking point of the game!
>>
SPM is great. I'd take a dozen side-scrolling semi-RPGs that retain the heart and charm that really made the PM series special than minimal character shitfest RPGs like SS.
>>
>>322873554
>>Fi handholding interrupting gameplay
Ignore her
>>Same areas over and over
Not true. Going back to a volcano, when the volcano has now erupted and it's a stealth segment, is not the same thing as the first time you go there.
>>Motion controls are not reliable and wear out the novelty in no time
Not true. The motion controls are very precise, reliable, and fun. It's not a "novelty", it's simply how you control the game. You're just supposed to get into the game, not focus on your hands and go "woo I'm moving my hands!"; that's not where the entertainment is supposed to be derived from.
>>Sky is empty
Good. Better than a big open empty ocean like in Wind Waker, or a big open empty field like in Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess. I hope Zelda games continue to cut out the bullshit filler content and just give us meaningful and fun content constantly through the whole game like Skyward Sword did. But Zelda U looks Skyrim-tier with all of its big open pointless areas with no content, so looks like you got your way. Rejoice!
>>Repeated boss battles, especially the imprisoned
>>Fucking tadtones
These weren't particularly fun but they're also like 2% of the overall experience with the game.
>These are enough to ruin the game.
No not at all. It's the same old parroted arguments that are always presented against SS.

I like Raiden, he grew on me. Overall I felt bad for him by the end because of just how fucked around he was over the course of the game. I also enjoyed using sword for final boss.
>>

It really wasn't that big in OoT.
Definitely felt needlessly expansive in TP though.

I just couldn't stand how they they got all mad at Luke after akzeriuth like he had any idea on what he was doing

>>
>>322874045
You know, I think Majora's mask is one of the few 3D zelda games that doesn't have much of an empty outskirts. As it always had stuff going on, EVERYWHERE. Which is what Nintendo may want to work on for the future.
>>
>>322874163
>It really wasn't that big in OoT.
This is true, but I prefer it like in OoT or SS, where the filler bullshit is only like 2 minutes long. Just enough to give a sense that it's a big world, but not enough to bore you to sleep and you'll be spending hours of each playthrough in a big open area with no content, like in Wind Waker
>>
>>322874135
I like Warframe too, but the community seems almost non existent in the actual game.
Trading with strangers for example is a nightmare. People don't even list estimates for items they are selling or want, and just spam the trade channel with ambiguous messages.
And when you join up with strangers, while most people do seem to carry their weight, 9/10 times everyone is completely silent, and the experience is no different from playing with NPCs.
>>
>>322874135
I like all the neat designs, not sure I enjoyed hearing how the people who made the game progressed with it.
>>
>>322874365
I love MM and I agree. Termina Field was small, compact, and filled with content. And you even got the Goron mask to help you traverse it even more quickly. That is good adventure game design. When you don't have to pad your game with filler content, because the dev is confident in the actual meaningful content, that's when you know you're playing a good game.
>>
>>322871994
BLUE COINS
The games were fun and all but let's agree it had way too many "Oh yeah THAT part" moments
>>
>>322874885
At the risk of derailing this thread even harder than it already is:
The blue coins are actually completely fine because they give a reason for exploring and playing around with the mechanics. Many of the blue coins are hidden in clever parts of the game such as birds or bees nests or interesting bits on the world. The blue coins are basically the game's way of saying that IF you want to explore and play around with the immersive environment, we're going to reward you for it.

Now, yes, you COULD argue that they could have provided a better reward than simply more Shine Sprites, but the fact is that the existence of the blue coins incentivises the player to explore the island.
>>
>>322871994
Pachinko machine. Getting Yoshi to that one island using the boats.
>>
>>322875154
Yoshi being made of paint was perhaps one of the dumbest things I could've seen in a mario game.
>>
>>322875154
If they're meant as a way to reward players they shouldn't be required for 100%. If they must be required Nintendo seriously should have implemented a damn checklist or something. At least have a blue coin marker on the map after you found it. If you find 28 blue coins and you have to revisit a level or 2 after a long while you're absolutely fucked. Especially if you didn't know the coin locations beforehand. It makes the game a damn slog for going through a checklist of every single possible location you haven't already went through.

I personally have only traded with strangers a handful of times, but every time no one ever tried to rip me off or wasn't friendly. I can agree with you on playing with non-clan strangers however. The game is clearly best played with two to three friends on Skype or an equivalent.

Where the community shines for me are the clans, as I've been in quite a few of them, and they were all filled with awesome people to discuss the game with and go on missions with. Only issue I had was that in a couple of them the head mods reached max rank for the time or ran into personal issues, stopped playing, and effectively killed the clan.

Warframe overall seems to be in a very nice middle ground in terms of popularity as a multiplayer game, especially for a free-to-play game. It's currently popular enough to sustain the F2P model so that DE doesn't have to pull any drastically greedy moves for profit. Yet it's not extremely popular or well known where the fanbase is close to garbage.
>>
>>322876932
Nah, there is some enjoyment to find in the prequels. Will admit X-2 is certainly a waifu-tier game.

I liked XIII-2. While I know it's not well regarded, I think I certainly liked the protags and even antagonist over the primary ones from the original game. I didn't even mind the time travel and paradoxes. It felt more Final Fantasy to me, and not-Sora was likable.

The art style is definitely one of the highlights of the game, and hell the story can be pretty interesting if you can wrap your head around how it's conveyed. Though the grinding aspect is definitely the most subjective part of the game. To me, it's a very enjoyable game to play due to the mission type variety, pretty environments, satisfaction of obliterating enemies, and all of the cool warframes and weapons to work towards. Though it's not really playable without friends who are also into it, as I've mentioned.

As a free game, you will not be losing anything but a few hours of your time by trying it. But if you can't convince a couple friends to play it with you or find cool people to play with regularly, I don't see how it will have longevity. Also if you think you will have to buy your way through the game, I have hundreds of hours into the game, own and have traded high-tiered equipment, completed some of the hardest missions the game has to offer, and have never put a single penny in.
That is how a free-to-play game should be done.

I had just just got a 3ds and I had no games for it at all, I tried the demo for awakening, had a lot of fun, instantly bought it after it. Awakening got me back into the FE series, I had previous only played 7 as a kid, and a after a while I ended up replaying and besting 7, completely PoR, and getting a few chapters into Roy's game before getting completely burned out on FE. Awakening has some pretty fucking bad map design, but fuck man I like the game.

I legitimately disliked the game, it wasn't a decision to be contrarian. I actually really tried to like the game, I did enjoy the combat and Aesthetics but that wasn't enough to make up for the terrible overworld system and mediocre dungeons.

Super Paper Mario is peak Nintendo. Thousand Year Door is great, but it has way too many "that one part"s to be infinitely replayable like SPM is.
They found a way to blend classic NES/SNES sidescrolling action, pick up and play, with storyline depth and a meaningful quest beyond "get to the end of the level." If it was just a little harder, it would be a perfect 10.

Because theres nothing to discuss about the game anymore so the fanbase and hatebase are going into full extremist mode where nobody wins.

1. Zelda Skyward Sword
2. Metroid Other M

not sure why everyone hates this one so much. I loved the characters, gameplay, the wasteland wasn't that empty this time, and the story was pretty ok.

I liked it.

I can only imagine what being a metroid fan and playing it when it came out felt like
Holy shit, I finished because I couldnt believe what I was playing, I actually recommend it to people to let them know how NOT to make a videogame.
Just remembering the game is making me mad.

i just settled with my shit-taste crown, its okay. at least i can appreciate and have fun with more games than others.

Nigger the story is the last of that game´s problems.
Its actually the only ting that didnt bother me that much, the game is literally save point - 4 linear rooms with almost nothing in them - save point. Repeat 20 times.

I truly liked this game fine. It did some dumb stuff but was still solid fun and even improved the formula in some aspects like level design. 7/10.

It's rather funny how this was only being talked about here on the first week of lauch before it suddenly exploded in popularity, and now everyone here pretends to hate it because there's nothing to discuss about it anymore.
>>
>>322874135
I played it for a good while, it's fun, but soon enough it wears on you because it's the same shit all the time, grind this for hours to get this one item which you'll probably never use because it's not even good, it's just for collection.

The corny bosses acting like saturday morning cartoon villains were kinda funny too.
>>
>>322888246
If sticker star didn't suffer heavily from "you literally don't need to fight anything except for bosses and even bosses are one trick enemies" I'd have liked it a lot more.

Music was great. Over world's were great, general paperness of the game was fantastic.

I just literally suffered from the idea that running away from every battle is overall more efficient than ever battling.

This game should have tried sticking to SPMS formula of an action rpg platform er instead of a literal rpg platformer.

I think it wanted to basically make enemies obstacles sort of like in platforming Mario instead of having you want to clear out every room for exp like in most RPGs but having the ability to run from battles makes it pretty stupid.

You do get money and stickers from battling but you only need those for doing more battling so they didn't really think it through.

I actually like the battles and stickers themselves. You have lots of fun options compared to "hammer or jump?" from before. Bosses are kinda lame though but if you don't use the "I win" sticker then they can be a really tough challenge.

Got this during the steam sale because I felt like a button basher beat em up. Been playing exclusively the gladiator mode, actually quite fun. Sure it's bamham-ish but I find myself a bit more engaged with this game's combat than the former, plus I prefer the gladiator mode's multitude of large maps along with randomized objectives over the challenge maps in arkham city when I played that. The QTEs are just for point scoring and bonus effects depending on your deity. It's the kind of game I see myself booting up and doing one round real quick when I'm bored, and for the steam sale price it's just what I wanted. Only downsides I see are fidgety camera sometimes obscuring enemies/QTE prompts but it's not a big deal. The last few enemies in the wave also can usually kill you in one combo but I think I just need to git gud and get better equipment I guess.

This meme again

Watch the scene. Literally 0 people get mad at him for trusting Van. All of them are shocked. Jade says that he wished the calamity could have perhaps happened after everyone was evacuated. Note he doesn't say "why did you trust Van", his sentence straight up implies that the trusting Van thing was taken for granted and not all on Luke.

Everyone's attention is on their surroundings then Luke breaks the shock and silence with his 'it's not my fault spiel' which is the tipping point for everyone. I'll say this again: re-watch the scene. Tales of the Abyss is a wonderfully written game, and I don't mean just by JRPG standards. It's a one hit wonder too, all other Tales games are incredibly generic.
>>
I'm going to say Fallout 4. Not sure why it gets shit on so badly here when it is, quite literally, just more of the same when compared to Fallout 3 with only minor changes to the leveling system.

Like, if you've played any Bethesda game in the past 5 years, you knew what to expect and it's your own damn fault for being disappointed.

Anyway, Fallout 4 pretty much had everything I wanted since I played Fallout 3. I wanted a game where the story focused on The Institute. I loved the settlement building aspect. The map is huge with dozens of locations, each one either related to a quest or having its own contained story. I had fun with it and it kept me entertained for weeks.

Berate me all you want, but it's a good game. NOT amazing, NOT the fucking citizen kane of gaming, but good.

I wholeheartedly agree on the general battle themselves, EXCEPT not being able to choose which target to fight. Other than that, yes, the stickers were a really good idea, just executes in the most piss poor way possible.

Game gets too much flak, but I understand why it gets so much flak, and that's what makes me so mad. The fact that even though I enjoyed certain qualities of the game, the incredibly jarring faults just keep poking back at me.

Seriously though, the game is lucky it had great music, or I'd have dropped it way sooner. Fucking disco boos.
>>
>>322890745
I think it's mainly the butchered dialogue system and the personal preference with skills and perks vs perks only. I don't really like those changes and think New Vegas remains the best 3D Fallout game, but I still like Fallout 4 and have fun playing it. It's hard to screw up the exploring and shooting side of it. Kinda like how MGSV is fun and a decent game but shits the bed with a worse story than previous MGS games and only having two maps that just get recycled for side missions.

>best atmosphere in the series
>best story in the series
>combat was basically timed puzzles
>villain isn't ganon
>Fi is best sidekick in a zelda
>best dungeon design
>music kind of forgetable though

SS is fine. OOT lagacyfags just flak it for being "different". And this was coming off of TP which people alledgedly hated because it was "too much of the same".

I don't have the "Kid Muriel hates Zelda" image but it sums up fickle zelda fans to a t.
>>
>>322890867
>EXCEPT not being able to choose which target to fight
That was dumb yeah.

Also yeah people hate the game too much considering it's basically a good concept with some stupid faults that could have been avoided making it an alright game overall but often people act like it's one of the worst games ever made. Not just on /v/.

A pretty common opinion seems to be "This isn't Paper Mario 3 so it automatically sucks." without even trying to analyze its good and bad aspects which is stupid too.

Woah now, what's wrong with FES? I always considered that the P3 Golden.

>>322891389
Totally agree. Wasn't trying to say Fallout 4 was the best Fallout, just that I still had tons of fun with it despite it's flaws.

In fact, I fucking love the entire Fallout franchise. Just something about the settings and story really clicks with me. Probably one of my top 5 favorite game franchises.
>>
>>322892253
He probably means not so much that there's anything wrong with that, but that Persona 3 Portable had better gameplay and more content (at the cost of removing the overworld and cutscenes).

I too would like a Persona 3 Golden, in that it has all the content of P3P but with the overworld and presentation of Persona 3 FES.

>best overworld music, best final boss music
>best companion, is actually playable in some of the dungeons
>overworld travel was challenging and fun, I liked how you had to plan out your route to avoid the demon trains, while paying attention to scenery to watch out for hidden locations and rabbits
>story that actually references the previous incarnation of Link/Zelda

It's not exactly my favorite Zelda game, but it's definitely up there in my top DS games.
>>
>>322891390
Fi is total shite and the story isn't great either. Nobody plays Zelda for it's story anyway, it's a minor point in the game and it should have never received the focus that it otherwise did in TP and SS. Even if SS did indeed have the best story in a Zelda game, that is hardly saying much.

I wouldn't ever say that it had top tier dungeon design either, if only due to how predictable all the puzzles were and how I never felt that they were expanding or doing things significantly different from the previous installments.
