>>322866291 Just bought it on Steam over the sales. PLaying through it now. I'm on Chapter 7 (where you're in the office looking for the girl Wade or something)
It's pretty dang fun, and looks good considering it's 10 years old. My only complaint is that all the enemies are bullet sponges, and the game throws so many at you.
And then you have special enemies like the armored guys who take up a shit ton of bullets. The good thing is that you can take out their legs and just pop off a few shots at them.
The worst enemy I've encountered so far are those fucking flying drones that shoot lasers at you. Wtf is up with those? The lasers eat right through your armor and they fire fast as shit. They're bullet sponges too, so you can't really take them down fast.
>>322868647 It's really overrated on /v/. Most people see it as an average shooter with spooks, and thats precisely what it is. It's not unreal or quake, its not doom or serious sam, it's not even halo by any chance, is just an ok game which some nice details like good ai and gunplay but thats about it.
>>322866291 >try it out >get horrible fps everytime after playing for 5 min >look it up >it's a bug caused by some logitech products really nice programming >there is a fix by disabling some logitechs features >do it exactly like the guide say >can't enable them after playing no thanks
>>322869605 >Doom - Doom 2 >Quake - Quake 3 arena >Unreal - Unreal Tournament >Half Life - HL2 >Serious Sam TFE - SSTSE >HALO - HALO 2 If a series doesn't have much to offer but one good game maybe the series didn't had that much to offer in the first place? I mean even the first FEAR starts getting repetitive after you are fighting "not generic commando guys" in yet another office building for the 15th time. Again, it's not "underated" by any chance, it has its right place.
>>322869756 >Shooting at a leg They start moving very slowly, and try to hid behind cover while calling for help. >Shooting at hand They start to held their weapon with one hand which usually doesn't end well.
>>322870213 >Also half-life 2 < FEAR Not really. Good gunplay doesn't make out for having the most repetitive enviroments and enemies in the history of shooters, you just sound like the typical hipster that wants to pretend his "okay-ish" but and not very well known game is some kind of undiscovered, underappreciated gem, instead of recognizing that maybe peope just didn't find it that good.
>>322870323 With that gun that shoots bit metal rods, it takes me about 3 shots. With the assault rifle it takes 2-3 bursts to bring them down with headshots. If you take them down before they see you, it only takes 1 bullet, but once you take one down, the other 4-5 in the area go into alert. Ammo isn't a problem, but I just hate letting my armor or health get low during firefights, because I have no idea what I'm going to be facing in another couple seconds. Now that I have to kill those fucking lazer drones, I need all the armor and medkits I can carry because those lasers just zap me down to 0 super quick.
>>322871142 FEAR has a lot more replayability to me. HL2 felt like hopping from set piece to set piece with puzzles in between. While set pieces are cool the first time, they aren't that interesting afterwards.
>>322868098 I liked FEAR2 for the most part. The elementary school was pretty neat.
>>322868905 >>322871484 IX was a bad Final Fantasy. It had absolutely terrible equipment, skill, and ability systems that allowed no room for players to shape their characters in any way. The trance system going off outside of your control was even worse designed than VIII's limit spamming. The combat was slow and boring and the only interesting mechanic AT ALL was the dynamic between Steiner and Vivi, and it didn't really add anything to the game at all. It had a terribly boring setting that's only praised by "classic fans" because it didn't emphasize sci-fi, completely disregarding that Final Fantasy has used sci-fi elements from the start of the series. Your cast consisted of characters like Freya who were completely forgotten by the plot after their usefulness to the story was up, characters like Quina who basically just showed up whenever the game felt you needed a 4th party member and didn't do ANYTHING of any relevance, and characters like Amarant who I'm still trying to figure out why he was added to the game. The protagonist and antagonist being "space alien grim reaper brothers" is by far the worst plot twist in the series, much worse than either the orphanage in VIII or "You're a dream Teedus" could ever hope to be.
The worst part of all? In a series that's known for its innovation in its genre, Final Fantasy IX bitched out and actively BACKTRACKED to boring, outdated, mechanics. At least the early games it was a callback to were innovations of their time like the ATB system in IV, and at least for the PSX titles VII, VIII, and Tactics all tried to do new things with turn-based RPGs, storytelling, and world building even if it didn't please everyone- whereas IX actively decided to say fuck that, and appeal to idiots who want video games to stagnate.
It was boring and had nothing unique going for it. In fact, nothing about the game is particularly memorable. It has no sense of identity for itself and just takes after previous titles.
Be warned, that's the civilian version and it has a single-stack magazine well. You have to widen it yourself if you want it to accept STANAG dimension magazines. They neutered the shit out of that thing, it takes a bit of work before it's not a huge turd.
Nothing as fun as just fucking slamming shit up with one of those walkers. Seriously, the amount of shit you could pull to destroy buildings was amazing and it doesn't bog you down with the story, at all, even the intro is incredibly short before you are unleashed upon the EDF
>>322871038 Ended up spending more time in that than GTA5. Something just 'clicked', the re-released version was lightyears ahead of the shitty clunky G4WL version which seemed to have that horrible mouselook emulation patched over the console controls, where the mouse appears to move in 5 pixel increments.
>>322881980 You forgot Cigarette Burns and Dark Star and maybe Starman

The shooting is hella solid, the graphics and setting are mind-blowing, co-op is fun, and the crafting has a lot of range once you get the hang of it. If you play like an action title with horror elements the disappointment fades into the background.
