Is there a harvest moon-like game on PC? Since my PS2's drive is busted I can't seem to get Harvest Moon working via SMB and I could really use a relaxing game right now.
Also rune factory 5 when?
I'm guessing not many people like Harvest Moon here. That's a shame.
Its based on the 2d ones, but its pretty much a rip off of harvest moon. Single player will probably be released this or next month, and the multiplayer will be a few months after that. Looks pretty cool, I'm gonna buy it for and play it with my gf
I could emulate, completely forgot about that. Thanks.
This is pretty nice, too. Thanks mate.
It doesn't but I seem to get stuck when the game loads. It just sits on a black screen after the company intros.
Wait what. Since when?
the tractor is your waifu now
Was in the same boat as you OP.
While these games aren't exactly like Harvest Moon, they share enough elements to sate your hunger, or at least they did for me
Recettear: An Item's Shop Tale
Kamidori Alchemy Meister
I'm afraid I don't remember it, maybe I've seen a news report or two.
But by peak I'm assuming that market is dead now?
I completely forgot about Recettear! Thanks mate. I'll look into the other game as well.
Yeah, the current version makes pretty much every game playable. Out of 2500+ games, 95% runs more or less perfectly on emulation now. So only a complete shitter computer would ruin it.
Might need some tweaking to stop graphical glitching or so, but googling that will always lead you to the same issues others have had before you, and how to tweak for fix.
because it's legitimately one of my favorite games now
draws you in as a porn game but the gameplay is so fun you stay
I dunno, i never played that shit. I'd rather emulate and replay HM games than touching that drivel. Trust me, you don't want to play that if you're looking for HM/RF experience.
There's a game called Stardew valley supposed to be coming out soon™ that is inspired by all the good harvest moons. i'm going to give it a try, the art is really terraria which is offputting but hopefully the farming and animals is good
Only problem i have with Kamidori is that Wil is such a fucking cheating manslut. Holy fuck, leave me the fuck alone every single female creature in the game, i just want to craft shit and be with my waifu.
It legimately ruined my enjoyment every time Wil suddenly becomes Chad Thundercock out of the blue.
That's remarkable. Granted it's been a decade but I'm glad it's all up. It seems to be running smoothly.
Thanks mate. It'll take a bit to download though.
I've always assumed freemium/phone games were terrible. Nothing good comes out of a touchscreen only device.
it's modeled almost exactly like the very first Harvest Moon on SNES, but yeah, the dev is a huge HM fan and its supposed to include all of the best stuff plus new shit like multiplayer and character customization
Another anon suggested it earlier. Seems to be going through a bit of development hell, or maybe too much polishing syndrome. I don't know, something of the sort.
I have it bookmarked though.
i've been keeping a close eye on it. back in december he said the single player game is 99% done and the hold up now was getting the multiplayer to run well. After much debate/delay he decided he'd release the single player soon and add the multiplayer portion later through (free) dlc
Some of the dialogue is pretty fucking bad. Especially the Sebastian character makes me cringe
we'll see, i dont really give a fuck about the marriage aspects of these types of games
it's being made by only one guy so it has a high possibility of being hit or miss
Same here. I wish there was an option to simply disable h scenes, at least with not-main girls.
But that aside, it's one of the few games in recent years that had me so addicted to playing it. Granted, i had just come off a Spice and Wolf binge, so happy merchanting was just want i wanted.
Still hasn't completed it. I think i'm on chapter 8 or something now, after 300+ hours
That's thoughtful of him. I'd rather play a single player experience anyway. I'm just hoping it's released in a timely manner. Game development is a tough task, but it's no good if it can't come out within 5 years.
Thanks for the info, mate.
>Wait what. Since when?
Like a year ago or more. People were crying and despairing on /v/
But the IP is in the publisher's hand, so they might get together the team later.
Or get a completely new shitty one
this looks actually looks pretty nice anon thanks for showing me that
You should emulate this. It's kind of garbage and you can probably finish it in 2 hours but it's super comfy.
I must have completely missed discussion of this. Either way it seems Marvelous now owns the development team, so maybe we'll get something from this.
I suppose it would. I chose her after I realised her mother wasn't an option, and I still do like her.
Looks good to me I'm in. Thanks for showing me anon.
I had a horrible experience with that one. There was a marriage bug that would cause the game to freeze during the wedding no matter what. Fucking PAL version, cucking me before it was cool.
RF3 is my favourite rune factory. Great combat, nice music, gorgeous visuals (at the time), and great girls.
When winter came around I would play it by the fireplace. Great game.
Yeah, I saw it in the store and just had to get it. I love pictures with any kind of texture.
The big problem is that it plays more like "One Small Favor" than a comfy harvest moon game. You can shift the day forward at any time to let crops grow, cheese/wine mature, and animals grow. In order to get things you have to give them, like 2 chunks of marmot meat for 3 cabbage seeds, and eventually work your way to the end of the chain.
Also it's really not the same thing, but there are a lot of survival games these days that do the fixing up and expanding your place while living off the land part. If they put some town with people, maybe wife prospects, into The Forest or Subnautica they would be rad.
It will be interesting to see how it turns out. I think the multiplayer is only 4 players so you get your crew and stay with that. It's not like some random autist can come on and grief your server if that is even possible.
How is the multiplayer even going to work? Does each person get their own house and farm area? can't find any info
it will probably be one shared house and each person can get delegated roles
i like frontier but everything takes so long compared to rf3/rf4.
also you can disable the runey aspect entirely with a gecko code
i dunno but harvest moon type games always seem to bring out the best in /v/
even this thread is full of educated discussions and sharing of memories with barely any shitposting
Not disable, max it. Which makes the game way too easy and unfun. But i don't mind.
Agree that the days seems too long. Wish the hours would go faster, but on emulation you can speed hack the clock.
I can put up with. I generally play these games to relax.
Also survival games these days are too real for me. I want a cartoon kind of style, anime, etc.
Do you happen to know the artist of this art? Or maybe ones that do similar art? Thank you!
So..Story of Seasons is not good?
I've almost exhausted Rune Factory 4 at this point and need a new game. I have RF Oceans kind of just sitting around, I played a little bit of it but didn't really like it. Should I try again?
I personally didn't like SoS. Granted I put a grand total of 3 hours in before I put it down. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood.
I haven't played oceans, I tried Tides of Destiny but I couldn't get into that one either. I'm getting more and more lost with each of these games. Maybe I'm getting old.
Well most of us are at least older than 20 and playing these games because of nostalgia. The younger crowd gets easily bored with games like these.
At least that's my guess. The other generals I frequented went to shit because of 16-year-olds and their cliques.
I think so too. Even though I thought it was pretty comfy to built up my little tree fort a lot of these games make doing so incredibly tedious.
There's an upcoming MMO called Peria Chronicles that I hope will end up being good. It's supposed to be an open world game full of player created cities and dungeons alongside pokemon combat. From a video I saw a while back it looks like you can even use some kind of scripting to change the way things you make will work.
Many of these survival games primarily focus on multiplayer, which isn't inherently bad but they're certainly not relaxing. In fact, there's this dinosaur like game on Steam I believe that behaves just like those phone games. You need to constantly check on your base, least it gets ravaged by someone else. Too much stress.
This MMO looks nice! But since its a Korean one I'm a little concerned on how they'll try to make money. I hope it stays balanced like Mabinogi did for a while. Thank you for the suggestion.
It's working surprisingly well! I hope everyone in this thread has a good day.
Yeah, my little brother plays that one and it does not seem comfy at all. When he plays with his friends they go nonstop for 3 or 4 days at a time. It takes so much time and resources that a single person would never be able to make progress.
I hope it's not another Archage. Free players were so restricted that you would not progress without paying friends. Mabinogi was tons of fun. I remember being terrible at combat so I spent my days carving spoons and doing NPC quests to make my money.
This was the first game i played where i realised that the game was running at like 15 frames a second at some points.
Does emulating fix that? if so i might have to revisit it.
I just started this myself. I haven't noticed any slowdowns that I remember the PS2 having so far. Shame everything is stretched out, but I can look past that.
That sounds like a nightmare. I can barely push 4 hours of video games a day, let alone nonstop.
I was absolute trash at Mabinogi, but one of the best things about that game was you didn't need to be a great fighter. There were other ways to make money. Most MMOs shat out these days seem to forget that.
It's one of my favourites.
If I get to it I'll let you know, but so far emulation seems very snappy. Although it looks like an upscaled Wii game.
I liked the characters, the ocean exploring was fun. After a bit I got bored though, sort of felt I wasn't progressing anywhere.
I know many don't like story heavy games, but I love Rune Factory for this very reason.
I've been following this game for about 2 years. I think this guy has is over his head, because each update he add a shit ton of stuff to the game.
Still, at least he is trying. God knows we need a HM-like game on pc.
OP, your drive is probably fine. Use rubbing alcohol on a qtip to clean the laser and adjust the little white spoke in the very back of the drive one click at a time until your discs read flawlessly again.
I have 4 phat ps2s and recently restored all of them this way.
I liked Magic Melody a lot less. The art style was really offputting, getting interrupted every 30 seconds to display your cheevos ruins the pacing, and you start the game with the stamina of an 82 year old man.
Didn't like AWL much because the day is far too long for how little you can actually do, but I think it's still better than MM.
'fraid that won't work this time around mate. The rotor is damaged, not the laser. I used that method to fix the laser before however.
I can fix the issue, but I don't think it's worth it since most games play via SMB anyhow.
Harvest Moon 64 is the absolute best.
What's the Best HM game to emulate?
I liked A Wonderful Life but by the time I had the kid I was running banana trees + seed extractor to the point where I was mad rich and if it rained I pretty much had nothing to do.
Already on that. I need to find an IDE drive but for now I'll use SMB.
To emulate? I couldn't tell you. Every game has it's ups and downs. Try all of them, in my opinion, to see what you like the most. Shouldn't take too long to figure out.
>Sebastian is a rebellious loner who lives in his parents’ basement. He is Maru’s older half-brother, and feels like his sister gets all the attention and adoration, while he is left to rot in the dark. He tends to get deeply absorbed in computer games, comic books, and sci-fi novels, and will sometimes spend great lengths of time pursuing these hobbies alone in his room. He can be a bit unfriendly to people he doesn’t know. Could a charming new farmer cultivate the wasteland of his heart? Who knows?
Sweet baby Jesus.
What's the difference between that and Back to Nature or Friends of Mineral Town?
HM64 has more stuff than BtN. Like getting kids, bunch of events and collectables and such things.
Other than that, they're pretty much the same game, but set in different locations with somewhat different personalities in characters.
I never triggered the event where you revitalized the vinyard. There was some other event or bad weather that locked me out of it.
But I remember thinking it was super cool that her dad gives you the special wine he made for her birthday.
So FoMT is obviously the best one
In all honesty, i prefer the characters in Rune Factory rather than Harvest Moon. They felt a bit more developed.
FoMT is such a clusterfuck of mechanics and the map layout is godawful.
64's friendship/recepie system was fun but not overbearing. In FoMT you've got to spam gifts at everyone to get your farm working halfway decent, suck the carpenters magnum dong, train the sprites, and the rucksack upgrading was the worst.
Combined with the translation somehow managing to be worse than 64 and I just don't get it. If only the first DS game hadn't been so buggy. It generally fixed a lot of FoMT problems I had.
Already done so. All I can do is wait.
Don't Starve is a very survival like game. I can't do those, I'm afraid.
I'm surprised this thread isn't dead yet.
Downloaded, but it keeps crashing every time I do anything. Shame.
This is usally the reason 90% of people can't get a game to run.
You may get yen symbol instead of /, but it doesn't do or change anything. If it's a bother just change the format and location, also under the region and location tab, but you may get oddities in text in nip games then.
Western games work just as well on jap locale, unlike the opposite.
Waifu discussions usually keep the thread afloat and doesn't interrupt people discussing the game.
It's usually how these threads survive to 500, by having some guys argue about waifus thus bumping the thread, and the rest talking at their leasure.
Besides, these games aren't complex enough for months of discussion for long time players, and there's too few new players who bother asking question or talking, so it just boils down to characters and subjective opinions.
>Playing Back to Nature as a kid
>Home alone, night time
>Working hard on the farm, gotten a few chickens i let out of the coop
>Go into mountains during evening to get some shit
>Come back at night, walk towards the house
>Hear this horrible loud as fuck monsterlike bark
>Run into the house and never ever work outdoor at late night again
Only later did i learn that wild dogs will attack your livestock at night unless you fence them in. That shit scared me shitless.
Came here to mention this, glad other people are interested. We have a Steam page now, by the way, so it can't be too far off.
BTN was my second game ever and this happened to me, and the next day that Asian guy showed up, so I was convinced for years that he was a secret werewolf.
