>>322823684 I would argue that most of them do. Some have minor downer elements like characters going off for penance or dead characters staying dead, some have a late-game death, but really, only FFVI (world is utterly fucked, but the heroes are determined to fix it) and VII (ambiguously apocalyptic ending until the compilation ruined it) have what I would even call bittersweet endings.
>>322825793 >7 Midgar is destroyed, and only Red's species is left. It's implied that the Planet eventually killed all humans >13 Cocoon is destroyed, and now the humans are left to fend for themselves on Gran Pulse without God's hindrance. Not too bad.
>>322830667 I meant 2.5 anon. You know, the novella where Tidus and Yuna get stranded on some island, they have a bad fight, and Tidus kicks a blitzball he finds on the beach in anger and it explodes and blows his head clean off.
>>322831478 yeah there is. There's like 3 endings in X-2 iirc. A good, a bad, and a perfect. Perfect is where Tidus comes back. Can't remember the specifics of the other two, but in good, Yuna comes to grips and lets him go.
>>322832286 >Literally nothing bad came out of the ending. Except for the fact the Occuria were ousted from power, nothing left to prevent the world from turning into utter shit in FFt and Vagrant Story a few thousand years later. Also you free the Lucavi, which cause FFT's crisis too.
>>322832924 The Occuria were assholes though, clearly causing everyone trouble in the world. Sure, maybe the world got fucked up as time passed, but at least the people of the world got freedom over their manipulative assholes of gods. None of that even happens until a ways into the future though. As far as the events of XII are concerned, everything works out a-okay, as can be seen in Revenant Wings immediately after.
>>322833256 >They explore the forest hoping to find a clue on how to return home when a ball rolls towards them. Tidus mistakes it as a blitzball and runs towards it while looking around for its owner. It explodes, killing Tidus and Yuna passes out from the shock. Yuna dreams of speaking to someone who claims to be a god and questions her regarding her relationship with Tidus. Yuna describes Tidus as an ordinary boy whom she met the day she became a summoner and whom she fell in love with during her pilgrimage. She is sad her feelings cannot be fulfilled, but the god tells her he will cast a spell that will suppress those feelings up until the day she became a summoner, but not erase them, with the possibility of them returning if something were to trigger it.
>>322833176 >Sure, maybe the world got fucked up as time passed, but at least the people of the world got freedom over their manipulative assholes of gods. Surely freedom means jack shit if you're literally dooming the world to grow so rotten that even casting a simple healing spell dooms your soul for an eternity in the Dark?
The Occuria were well-intentioned extremists who were ultimately proven very right. Allowing Man to flourish without their guidance turned the world into a medieval shithole where more people are oppressed and live short, painful lives.
Like we see plenty in real life, too much freedom leads to utter decadence and abuse of power. A balance between freedom and tyranny leads to progress, which is what the Occuria were. People died, but in controlled and assessed necessities.
>>322832924 >Except for the fact the Occuria were ousted from power The Occuria were never ousted from power. Nothing in the game indicates that they were. The Sun-Cryst was their chosen means to treat with human lords, but nothing indicates that they can't build another or somehow interfere in human affairs again.
And remember, Zodiark, by far the strongest Esper to have ever existed, is more or less implied as still being fully loyal to them, being basically a baby and not having any real reason to resent them like the members of Ultima/Altima's rebellion do.
I'm fully convinced that the Occuria drowned the world in fire.
>>322834376 If I remember correctly, the Sun-Cryst was the thing they used to control humans as they didn't have much influence or bargaining power otherwise. It's been too long since I played it, but I always gathered that by destroying the Cryst and whatever shit Vayne and Venat do near the ending, the Occuria's link to the world were essentially severed, doomed only to watch.
>>322835250 >by destroying the Cryst [...] the Occuria's link to the world were essentially severed, doomed only to watch.
Honestly, this is the part of the story that's the least explained, despite how important it is to it.
Each of the Occuria is hideously powerful. Venat proves it in the final battle, and he's an outcast who cut his ties with his brothers. The Occuria sit high above Giruvegan; it's not like they willingly sealed themselves in some alternate dimension, or that they can't interact with the world. It is merely that they choose not to do it overtly. Like they themselves say it, they are history's gentle stewards, using the Sun-Cryst to treat with human lords for the sake of favoring humanity towards a path that they see as favorable.
Cutting away their ability to guide history peacefully, from the shadows, is by no means an indication that they can no longer interfere with the world. They just can no longer do it covertly.
>>322836861 That kinda defeats the purpose of the remake though. Maybe something less drastic, such as making it there are levels and stat gains on level up, but they only apply to HP, and not other offensive and defensive stats?

>>322837296 Well, at least it has received extra content and some graphical polishing for the GBA and PSP versions. I guess that's more than what can be said for some other games. The PS1 line, for example, which has to survive on nothing but the occasional Steam port.
