This shit right here gave me way more feels than when Aeris died.
There's seriously way more "feels" stuff in this game that has a bigger impact than Aeris' death, which you can see coming from a mile away. Like when the Avalanche members die during the collapse of the Sector 7 pillar and plate.
On another note, Joe is alpha as fuck. You will never be as based as Joe and his black chocobo.
>feels when aerith died
lol? she barely fucking mattered. it's like saying you're sad your wife/husband died at the beginning of fallout 4. it had no impact on the player, it was just used to move the plot.
Pretty sure she was called Aeris, pronounced "Erisu" in Japan, since the game came out. It was only later that some random weeaboo Final Fantasy VII fanboys were like "NO HER NAME ITH AERITH!" Go fuck yourself.
You notice something is up when you see Barretts daughter is a white girl.
It gets explained and tied into his back story of why his hometown fucking hates him and why he hates Shinra, why he is fighting for the future of the planet, etc.
When this game was released I was in the 5th grade. I played it every day and when Aeris died, the boss battle following played her theme, and Cloud showed some real emotion there that had been building up since he met her.
Then almost directly afterwards you can view scenes of Aeris' mother and father on tape at Icicle Inn, which is the chillest, calmest, coziest place in the game.
The translation of aeris is censorship tho as is cids cursing. If its not the priginal romanji or script, it is an unofficial alteration of the authors original intent and therefore is the same as the breast slider in xenogears 4. Ask your gf if she agrees
>It was only later that some random weeaboo Final Fantasy VII fanboys were like "NO HER NAME ITH AERITH!" Go fuck yourself.
No, actually it was Square who re-translated her name for every other game she's been in after the original FFVII, so there's no need to be rude. She has indeed been called Aerith longer than she's been called Aeris in official English games now.
So why, in the Steam and PS4 release where they fixed the translation errors, did they not change her name to Aerith? Hmmmm?
They fixed the "This guy are sick" line, but kept Aeris' name the same.
>being emotional for aeris death is for faggots
The Aeris death scene was the biggest.
The developers said something along the lines of
>The fact that most people weren't okay with her death meant that we succeeded
Most other feels moments leave the player with satisfaction/closure. There's even a part later in the game where Cloud says something along the lines of "Aeris wanted to sacrifice herself for the planet" then Tifa says something like "Actually, I don't think she wanted to die at all..."
>did first run through at 13 years old
>Aeris death scene
>cheered aloud because I was always rooting for Tifa
...to be fair, the game makes her come off as really desperate and airheaded if you're consistently selecting pro-Tifa choices.
Aeris is a huge bitch. Jeez.
Like right when you get to the Gold Saucer and Barret is in a pissy mood because his past is getting brought up, she literally taunts him and then when he gets mad she's like "Well we're gonna go have FUN. Cya Barret."
It was completely tactless on her part. It's also pretty ass-backwards of her to say something like that to him when she was pretty helpful and understanding toward others when they were in need prior to this.
Can someone explain the logic behind the huge materia part of the game?
>Cloud is a potato, party has no plan
>Shinra has a sensible plan to destroy meteor and kill Sephiroth
>Party decides to sabotage this plan because "they're Shinra"
>Actively try to stop Shinra from saving the world
>Cid actually says they have a good idea, Cloud refutes with some mumbo jumbo about "generations of knowledge" in the materia
>Rocket ends up failing, but they didn't actually know it would fail
>it had no impact on the player
Someone never unlocked Great Gospel
Because the game lets you freely name your characters, so they know people can just rename her Aerith or not if it so bothers them.
The remake, on the other hand, will have her named Aerith by default because of voice acting.
Screw this fucking "Aeris just randomly dies and there are more impactful moments in the same game" meme. The game spend a ridiculous amount of time setting up Aeris, her character, her future hopes, the inevitable spiral towards her death when she leaves, which is foreshadowed heavily and the bizarre melancholy surrounding the event itself along with the backstory you receive after.
I actually really liked Aeris' cheeky personality.
It's kind of funny now since the compilation have been pushing the whole "fair maiden" image.
dude, she is a SHIT TIER CHARACTER
i never ONCE cared about her or used her in FF7. it took me a long while to find out her 4th limit only made you invincible for a while ON FUCKING DISC 1. then, you can't get her back and by the time you grind for that limit, your OP as fuck.
i was GLAD she was dead. fuck, what happened between 2 good females from FF6 to fucking 1 terrible female in FF7? this is why its a normie game, its just shit tier with trying to make areis this thing to care about when i could give two fucking shits and was more happy when she was dead and out of my party that i never used her in.
I could see that happening. Shit, in FFVII there were remnants of a dropped/incomplete storyline arc where you could resurect Aeris still in the game.
The Steam & PS4 releases dropped them though...
no, im fucking telling the truth that no one wants to fucking hear.
does anyone REALLY like aeris? shit, she is just as boring as fucking Rinoa and she had a dog, I LIKE DOGS ANON!
I too found her underwhelming as a party member, still in terms of her character I felt she had her place, and disappearing partway through the plot is probably on the of the best things that could happen to her. If she didn't die she'd probably be remembered as annoying.
>Tifa crushes it
>Aeris heals it so Tifa can crush it again
>and again and again and again and again
>Cloud records it
Do you call the Pokemon characters by their Japanese names or their NA names? If the former, you are a weeaboo faggot. It's Aeris in NA, just as it's Ash and Misty in Pokemon.
well of course because ash in the dub is a simpering impotent faggot whereas satoshi in the original japanese is an alpha with a will of steel and the determination of a buffalo.
Dunno what you're getting at. "IT'S THE JAPANESE NAME" is what Aerisfags say, not Aerithfags. I say Aerith because I think it looks and sounds nicer. Aeris doesn't sound like a name to me.
people who die should be impactful, like in phantasy star 2. i guess if anything, aeris dying for the plot works because if she didn't meteor would destroy the planet because holy wouldn't work fast enough.
Played it with my sister in the room.
Even as a kid I thought it was a pretty clear mistake as her name is meant to sound similar to Earth. Like how Cloud is named after clouds.
Her name is meant to carry a meaning. "Aeris" loses it.
You really gotta force yourself to give a shit about those avalanche members you literally just met and who say one or two unvoiced things.
You guys got it all wrong!
I thought it was meant to be more of combination of air and earth. Or to sound like I, Earth? Who knows. Either way, it's all messed up and now you're just going to have autists on both sides sperging out until the end of time.
>SHE DIES?! DO YOU HAVE ANY FUCKING REGARD FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED THE GAME I HOPE YOU FUCKING CHOKE ON SPERM AND DIE
What does that have to do with her name and character at all?
I've seen Aris, but not Aeris. Are you sure that's a name?
And that's not a good argument anyway. I'm pretty sure Cloud isn't an actual name.
>What does that have to do with her name
i felt worse for jessie biggs and wedge
they got fucking CRUSHED
imagine that happening, but not dying instantly and just being in agonizing pain until you die an hour later
really sad that flower girl got a spinal one shot that killed her right away
The lisp argument (as well as the existence of the name A(e)ris) is the argument that Aerith sounds silly. Her being called fucking Aeris in the NA release and you're not being fucking Japanese is the actual argument for her being called Aeris.
>first time playing the game
>want to have him pick Cloud
>you have to pass that shitty "workout" minigame
But seriously, that shit is hot as fuck and came out of nowhere. I hope there is a shitload of porn and doujins of this scenario. Not the Cloud crossdressing shit, but the fact that these two innocent girls were gonna get fucked by a dirty mob boss.
Not really sure why you keep using the "You aren't Japanese" argument, when it's usually "But it's actually EARISU in katakana!" that gets parroted in every thread. Including this one. I've literally never heard the reverse. But whatever. Square of America agrees with me, so I get what I want in all future works. Keep being mad.
Speaking of the deaths of various characters, I know this is an autistic argument, but is there any in game reason they couldn't just use a phoenix down or whatever other reviving items are in the game? Is there any legitimate reason, or is it a case of accepting gameplay mechanics don't cross over to the story/lore?
Final Fantasy V.They try using phoenix downs, cure, and life spells in the cutscene. No avail.
Of course, they only do this for one character in the whole game, the one who happens to have a legit reason for being perma-dead. They never try it with anyone else.
>mfw Tifa's reaction to the death of Aeris was sadder than the death of Aeris
>accepting gameplay mechanics don't cross over to the story/lore?
essentially yes, but the stock response to placate autists is that when you "die" in a fight you actually get ko'd (which is not the case in the first several games where you could only be resurrected by phoenix down or actually going to a church and having god himself flick their life switch from off to on.)
Well I don't know what conversations you've had but the Japanese Romaji translation is Aerith, hence why purists argue for it. But the fact is the western releases of FFVII (and Tactics) have it as Aeris, so that's what she is unless you're a weeb.
I'm replaying FF7 and she's a permanent addition to my party.
I actually wanted him and Cloud to fuck. Being a fag and all it was kind of hot to think about Cloud and him fucking. There actually is rule 34 for this scene, so I kind of got my wish, but I seriously hope they don't remove this shit from the remake.
It's not that I like that per se, I just liked the scenario and the fact that the girls didn't like it but had to go along with it.
It's fucking retarded. I was playing it on the PS4 at 3X speed and that shit was ball busting. The kicker is if you fail it, you have to reload to do it again.
Fucking tedious shit.
I don't really care about Cloud getting raped by a bunch of muscle-bound fags in the Honey-bee Inn.
I don't care if Tifa doesn't say retard on the stairs.
I just want to see these two moments with current graphics and voice acting.
It's being kept, considering how memetic it is.
It's everything else I'm worried about. Is the script and events going to be faithful, or are they going to exaggerate the hell out of the DANK MEEMS.
pretty much how i feel as well, never use her either, especially when there are far better characters with far better Limit Breaks, those fucking roulette limits may be the worst in FF history
its that and how beta she is
I guess he was right considering the Sister Ray was the only thing that could take down Sephiroth's barrier.
Why was Cid so based?
Kind of weird how Cloud says this after he's learned the truth about his past.
Cid is going to get toned down so much in the remake. It would be one thing if he were a villain, but since he's a party member there's no way they're going to leave him as he is. A real shame too, since he was one of the better developed characters.
Rewatching, I sort of get what Cait was trying to do. He was doing something stupid and silly to try and distract Cloud because he didn't know what the fuck else to do and was desperate. Then he realized how terrible that idea was and how terrible what just happened was, and limped away.
>Elmyra waiting on Sector 7 train platform for her husband coming home from the Wutai War
>watches all the other couples reunite
>no more passengers
>she stubbornly visits the platform everyday
>he was killed just before he was due to go on leave
>the one that isn't the literal prostitute is somehow the slut
I might be mistaking something here, but wasn't the delusion just that he wasn't SOLDIER first rank like Zack? He was still in SOLDIER, just one of the low ranking mooks right?
I have a feeling that you were supposed to get the Highwind earlier at some point in development (there's that promo pic of Aeris outside the Highwind). I'm guessing they forgot about that dialogue line or something.
because shes a beta that literally only wanted to get things right after everything went to shit, and spending the whole game as the only person who actually knew the truth
just think about how many of the shit that happens could have been avoided if she wasnt a lying cunt
I saw people waifuing Jessie before I started my first playthrough of the game and was surprised to find out that they're basically only in the game for about 10 minutes.
Sure, it's sad that you can't do anything to help them, but they're barely even in for 2% of the game.
That's enough being gay for tonight
>Had a boss fight with Jenova that lasted 2 and a half hours because Tifa forced her way into my party while being 17 levels below everybody
>Had last equipped her with an accessory that nullifies all of that boss's attacks which were water
>Cloud and Cid are dead with no more Phoenix downs and Tifa is scrapping up about 100 damage per turn
>while being 17 levels below everybody
Uh. Is that even possible? I'm pretty sure the party members outside your active party still level up. I'd say it's more likely because you didn't have any materia on her.
And you're not forced to use Tifa at that point, anyway. The last time you ever have Aeris in your party is during the events at the Temple of the Ancients. Between the Temple of the Ancients and Coral Valley, you definitely have plenty of time to set up a third party member if you've been using Aeris.
>she survives a near-fatal stabbing
>she confesses to her true love
>they both abscond to Costa Del Sol
>end up two party members down instead of just one
Definite bullshit. Here's the parts of the game where you're forced to use certain party members.
1. Cloud. Leads the party for most of the game.
2. Barret and Tifa. Breaking into the Shinra building.
3. RedXIII. First battle after you meet him.
4. Aeris, Barret, and RedXIII. Elevator battle.
5. Cait Sith. Gold Saucer events. No battles.
6. Barret. Corel Prison until you beat Dyne.
7. RedXIII. Going through the Cave of Gi.
8. Aeris. Temple of the Ancients.
9. Tifa, Barret, and Cait Sith at various times during the escape from Junon. At this point Cloud has been ejected from the party for awhile.
10. Cid. Forced to lead the party during part of the Huge Materia quest until you get Cloud back during the Mideel events.
I think that's just about all the forced party member segments. You also have to use Cait Sith and Vincent during the split path portion of the Northern Crater if you want to duplicate stuff like the Mystile and the Counter materia, but that's completely optional.
>I'm pretty sure the party members outside your active party still level up
They don't I had Cait Sith a good 40 levels lower than everybody else because I thought he was stupid.
Not loving the true secret romance. Why did you think she cried so much?
That's funny, because in a recent run, I ended up starting my endgame materia grind with Cloud, Yuffie, and Cid in the Northern crater all at around level 40, and when I finished, despite having not switched out for any other party members, everyone was level 99. Now how do you think that happened?
The only time a party member won't level up in accordance with the formula that keeps everyone's levels within a certain number of the active party's average level is if they're dead.
This shit me hard, mostly because aeris' theme was playing and I knew what was gonna happen to her. But hearing that train whistle howl like one long painful cry was just heartwrenching.
Then you see little aeris crying over her dead mother and the train cries again.
That shit, that shit right there wasn't fair
Oh that's right. Forgot about that one. But you don't have to fight any battles with her in your party at that point. The most you'll have is a few randoms on your way through the Whirlwind Maze, which you can run from, since there's no possibility of a surrounded attack enemy formation in the Whirlwind Maze. That part is also very late into the Whirlwind Maze, and way after the fight with the Jenova tentacle that uses the water attacks which that guy was talking about. I actually can't recall if you fight the third Jenova tentacle before or after that point, but it doesn't matter because it's the easiest of the three Jenova tentacle fights.
>boss fight with Jenova
The only fight she is forced into is Jenova Death at the crater. Also its attacks are fire based. And I refuse to believe that she was that low in comparison to the rest of the party.
This. I wanted to feel bad and I thought it was cute how jessie liked cloud, but their role was so small I wasn't that saddened when they died.
Supposedly they're going to be expanded upon in the remake, which I hope they do get more screen time.
Ah. So she is forced into the fight with Jenova DEATH. Okay. Even underleveled and with no materia setup, I can't see that fight taking two and a half hours, though. Do any of the Jenova tentacles even have more than 20k health?
>Yuffie nervously sleeping with her ass pressed up against the wall
>not entirely 100% sure that they've forgiven her for stealing all of their materia and expecting payback
>every stir from the slumbering hard-bodied hunks lying nearby is making her jump
>all that pent-up sexual energy emanating from them has her gushing but she can't disclose it without admitting to wanting to pull a fucking train
It's what she deserves.
The AVALANCHE people dying hit me harder as a kid because I didn't know they'd die. As for Dyne, he was a selfish crazy murderer and the best thing for Marlene was for him to die. I never used Aeris in my party when I first played because I figured I wouldn't bother building up a walking corpse. I just finished a replay for the first time in 10 years and I gotta say people who don't use Aeris are missing out, she's a pretty cool character.
I remember when I got FF7.
I reserved my copy months in advance and went on release day to Electronic Boutique. The line was around the corner. I got the game and it came with a free shirt.
Nowadays I can't think of a single game that I would want to reserve and wait on a long line for....
Anon pls, she is dead and will stay dead. Get over it
These fucking meme enemies...
Guys, they won't stop.
>Waiting desperately for that Tifa doujin by Maidoll
>finally it's out
>fucking can't contain the hype
>only 10 images
>4 pages are variation of the same page
>2 pages are blank
feel the same way, bro. That shit fucked me up
This man gets it
even more so I fucking love her limit break
I'm not emulating it. It's the remastered version on Steam. They also ported it to PS4. It grows on you after a little while.
>All these high-res character models and low-res backgrounds
Jesus Christ how horrifying.
Also, been doing a replay of FFVII and just got to the Temple of Ancients.
>Don't want to play anymore.
>He doesn't like homey hard-working earnest girls.
You one of them fags son?
>Character appears and dies within 5 minutes without any hint that he even existed before.
>Dialogue is basic, serving only to get the idea plainly across.
>This is somehow very emotional.
>the PS4 at 3X speed and that shit was ball busting. The kicker is if you fail it, you have to reload to do it again.
Why not just turn 3X off? It's just a click of the button
My biggest problem with Condor was that after failing to win the minigame I did a single fight at the top and everything was hunky dory. I didn't understand what happened at all.
Oh shit. It's that time again. You guys know what time it is.
not ready for all those feels
If Seto was my dad, things would be different around here...
There's no getting off the Red XIII feels train, is there?
My body is definitely not ready for these events in the remake.
Also, Bugenhagen's observatory is going to be amazing in the remake.
Because they were evil and would have been harmful to the planet.
I like getting the rewards for winning. Superball, in particular is an excellent reward. I can get easy money from selling mastered All materia, so why not buy troops to finish the battles faster?
Oh fuck, I didn't even thought about that
No they were allowed to care for another back then too.
Whites were even such bros to blacks that they brought them over from hell(africa) and gave them to work in temperate america.
I welled up just seeing that image, and I even saw it coming.
You're just playing her up because you wasted time leveling her just to have her die and you had to make up an excuse to make yourself feel better about being forced to level someone else afterward.
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting, anon
I really don't get what's so great about OWA. People go on and on about it but I think for all its bluster it's just a mid tier track in the OST. Stuff like Anxious Heart, Shinra's theme, Mako Reactor, Jenova's theme, City of the Ancients are all more memorable to me. The regular boss theme is easily better than OWA imo.
He supported it though. Also when the reactor malfunctioned and Shinra blamed the people, Barret and Dyne were out of town when that happened and I THINK the townspeople might have blamed them for that as well.
Hell, Dyne was initially against it but Barret convinced him. He has every right to not trust Shinra after that event
That's because it refers to two entirely different things. Fanny still isn't a bid deal in the UK, but obviously if use for the meaning that they don't use it for they'll be befuddled for a bit.
>He didn't think about Cosmo Canyon AS SOON AS THE REMAKE WAS ANNOUNCED
HOW FUCKIN STUPID ARE YOU ANON?
THIS IS LIKE THE ONE THING THAT WILL TRULY SHOW WHETHER THEY GET IT RIGHT OR NOT.
THE TONE OF THE TOWN.
ALL OF IT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER THIS BE A SHIT GAEM OR NOT.
And fuck you fags for makin me wanna play again.
>Fit enough to be in SOLDIER.
That's stupid. I'd rather have Cloud be a skeleton-mode druggie pumped up on Jenova-cells and Mako.
Until going through his adventures hardens him the fuck up.
Cloud looks fucking great so far still hope they make his arms a little buffer
Not that kind of fit. He was healthy. He was a skinny little thing as a kid and as a teenager - he never beefy or some sort of athletic adonis at any point in his life. We can still assume that he's rather resilient (as he only skinned his knees when trying to save Tifa from the bridge) and strong as he handled Sephiroth after getting stabbed.
you know given how much she pretended to not care about the party and was just out for the materia watching her really break down like that..
I think that's really what separates her and Tifa's in terms of impact.
I mean Im not really a fan of hers but Tifa's generally a nice person so her reaction is well, really what else could she have done.
I swear to god this is a recolour but I can't find the original anywhere. I'd had it since forever.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO REVIVE THAT FEEL????
>all those poor souls who never experienced a classic JRPG
>W-wait. Different characters have different reactions to her death?
uh yeah. why wouldn't they.
here, don't say I don't do shit for you.
I played it back then anon. But I never knew different party members had different reactions.
>Tfw your parents pawn off your old consoles since you "already have the latest one and a computer!"
Still doing my first playthrough of FF7 and this is correct.
Yeah, the Powersoul weapon makes her attacks stronger if she's near-death, but for some reason it fucking skyrockets when she's afflicted with Death Sentence. Since you can learn that as an Enemy Skill, you can cast it on her as if it were a really kickass buff spell.
>running off alone
welp, she had it coming
Please give this a read. Not that it will excuse you if you're one of those underaged faggots who never played the original and think that the battle system sucks because "it's slow".
The fact is that a) the remake will suck massive amounts of shit, and b) XV has way more potential to be fun, just because it's not riding on that nostalgia and remake hype to generate autismbux from literal morons
Play the original you fucking chodes.
It was surprisingly poignant, but the memory of it is ruined by having a second copy show up two minutes later, right when Cloud's being manipulated into beating the shit out of Aerith.
One thing I'd change narratively in the remake is for Cait Sith to stay "dead" until he comes back to save Barret and Tifa when they're imprisoned in Junon. It'd make his character much more impactful. Hell, they could even say something like "it took some time to upgrade this body," and the cat robot could be riding something like Magitek Armor, with higher stats and the ability to learn level 3 and 4 Limit Breaks.
>Cloud beating the shit out of Aeris
If they cut out that scene, I'm getting angry
Shippers like to turn them against each other, but if you pay attention during the game, Tifa and Aerith are probably the best friends among any two members of the group. Whenever the party splits up, they always go off together to chit-chat, and they have a habit of "ganging up" on Cloud and the others when talking. Mechanically-speaking, Tifa's affection actually raises when Cloud shows concern for Aerith as well.
The only time any jealousy is hinted at is when she gets huffy at Cait Sith saying that Cloud and Aerith are a perfect match when she's standing right there.
that scene always made me go whoa..
I always felt aerith left right after cause she got beat up like a dude by cloud and just got too traumatized to be around anyone so went to the temple to pray I always imagined she had black eyes and a swollen face and she thought cloud cant handle this journey he really needs to go home
>Hojo surrounded by bitches, getting a tan in his lab coat
Why is Hojo always drowning in puss, anyway? You'd think a guy that can't hide his bestiality fetish from his boss and all his colleagues would have a harder time picking up chicks.
beating bitches up since 1997!
Keep in mind folks that these won't be in any particular order.
Why is Corel nested in a small forested valley here but when you visit it later it's in the middle of a vast flat desert? I never got that part.
>the original assets for this game are long gone
>you will never see a hi-res version of these environments with this art direction
I don't have everything so unfortunately can't post anything from Wutai.
I really hate Sephiroths later "one winged angel" desing, which was used for AC. It looks so fucking underwhelming compared to his earlier design. I mean look at it, there is a certain beauty in that grotesque appearance which gives the player a feeling that Sephiroth really became something that goes beyond human understanding. Now we get angel wings and bishi fags, thanks alot SE
Rufus surviving was complete bullshit considering what he got hit by.
This dude right here...
Rufus is an absolute badass. He goes toe to toe with Cloud at a point in time where Cloud is actually something MORE than a Soldier 1st Class. He also doesn't flinch at all with Diamond Weapon's missile barrage blasting through his office. Then in Advent Children he faces down Kadaj like it's no big deal.
He's also attractive as fuck and I want his dick.
>replaying the game in 2015
>finally catch the reference in his fight
>tfw finding the gun in Kalm and thinking you get Rufus as a party member later on
Not OP but I felt the same way.
It probably had a lot to do with the fact that "Aeris dies" was spoiled so often that it isn't even a spoiler anymore. Meanwhile I didn't know about this going in, so it actually kinda hits you.
I really miss pre-rendered backgrounds in RPGs. Unlike action games, you don't need a lot of freedom to interact with the environment, and they forced the designers to come up with artistic, memorable camera angles to view the action from. Would the basement of the Shinra Mansion be half as memorable if not for the constant dutch angles and fisheye lens effects on the camera? You don't get that feeling when running through a hallway with an over-the-shoulder shot.
