Just got it, visually it's nice, always windy plus far too bendy trees is annoying though. Dialogue has been top notch so far can't fault it. Tracking/detective stuf is already grating given it's just click the highlighted area over and over. Nee to get to grips with what loot I need as im getting bore of picking up mountains of it. Combat is ok, I hope it gets better though because it feels far too sluggish. Overall 2hrs in im enjoying it but puzzled as to why it's so highly rated.

Played it on launch day. Was upset that I couldn't change the WASD controls (I use ESDF,) so I tried out a controller, then just stuck with it for the whole run.
Having to have customizable controls patched in is kind of weak, but other than that I loved it. Easily my favorite game of 2015.

It you spam attacks then your going to have a hard time (unless your playing on easy). Monsters will gang on you for spamming and humans will continue to block and then counterattack you if you spam. There is only one monster that I can think of that is spammable, and that's the first one you fight.

The game rewards you for blocking at the right time by letting you counterattack after.

The game is "deep" if you played it for more than 5 minutes.

Got it on PC and PS4 because I found it really cheap. I love it. Still I think BB is better mostly because I like souls games more than I like a good story in an RPG. So they put gameplay at the last priority and still managed to put out gameplay that's 10 times more fun than the other games.

Witcher 3 deserves to win the year. It's an enormous game, and well-polished; every quest gained and person you speak to feels different just for the sake of being unique. Voice acting is great, it looks great, combat still not perfect but satisfying and challenging at the higher difficulties. Disappointingly uninteresting King Of The Wild Hunt, I was expecting a bit more from Geralt's nemesis of three games, the first game used him much better. Loads of memorable moments throughout, and ends on a real high note (bad end notwithstanding).

Metal Gear Solid V has incredible gameplay, which succeeds despite deviating hard from the usual MGS formula. Doesn't have the advantage of just being an improved sequel to MGS4, it really is a wholly new game from the ground up. Unfortunately, it loses too many points for being so obviously unfinished to win, but I'd give it a deserved second.

Bloodborne is a close third. It feels like a real evolution to the Souls formula, something we failed to get from DS2. As usual the controls are tight, the level design is intricate and it's dripping with atmosphere. My main complaint is that BB feels quite lean; it's a shorter game with less bosses and weapons, instead relying on the unsatisfying chalice dungeons. The DLC goes a long way to remedy this, but I would've preferred to see the weapons it adds distributed more evenly across the main story.

I don't know why Fallout 4 is winning anything, it was a buggy mess and they really fucked the dog with the dialogue. Radiant quests are back. Base building is pleasantly easy to use, but ultimately pointless as invading enemies can just spawn wherever the fuck. Companions are unbearably shallow, just giving up their life story if you pick enough locks or mod your gun enough in their presence. I did absolutely zero level grinding on Bloodborne, only leveled after clearing areas or killing bosses. Still beat it, was fun. Grinded to get health vials occasionally though I'll admit, but that takes like 5 minutes.

What makes The Witcher's combat different from something like Dark Souls.

All you do in both of them is dodge and then attack when there is an opening.

Dark Souls is challenging and engaging.

That said, Dark Souls' gameplay isn't just its combat. It's also about dungeon crawling and avoiding traps, and this melds with the combat. It doesn't need some DMC-tier complex combat system so long as it works well and is engaging with the other gameplay elements.

Witcher has nothing but combat and walking around accepting quests in an open world like it's a fucking MMO.

Enemies are much more aggressive in dark souls and there's more weapon move sets. Enemies in the Witcher 3 just look at you after doing an attack or knocking you down, which is sort of dumb. As a trade off though you get invincibility frames in Bloodborne/Dark Souls and you don't in The Witcher 3, games would be stupid hard without them.

In Witcher 3 enemies come in groups and are much faster/more aggressive.
Different enemeis required different tactics/signs to deal with.
Sometime you need preparion for stronger monsters.
Bloodborne is more casual hack and slash type. You can beat most enemies by hitting r1 3 times. If that's not easy enough they give you a bunch of heath items to instantly refill tour HP.
By the time you reached Forbidden Wood you'd have 100 blood vials in your storage.

I've played Demons Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls II (I don't have a PS4 because I'm not retarded so I haven't played BB) and I think the combat systems are pretty similar to the Witcher 3. You plan, look for openings and attack when you can, except it's a bit quicker. Maybe you should play the Witcher at a higher difficulty if that's your problem with it.

Demon's Souls was PS3 exclusive and got plenty of GOTY awards. Bloodborne wasn't skipped over because it is too hardcore but because the Souls series is a rehash series and anyone who isn't a hardcore fan of the Souls series is progressively less interested in each entry.
