>>322775368 Just got it, visually it's nice, always windy plus far too bendy trees is annoying though. Dialogue has been top notch so far can't fault it. Tracking/detective stuf is already grating given it's just click the highlighted area over and over. Nee to get to grips with what loot I need as im getting bore of picking up mountains of it. Combat is ok, I hope it gets better though because it feels far too sluggish. Overall 2hrs in im enjoying it but puzzled as to why it's so highly rated.
>>322775368 Played it on launch day. Was upset that I couldn't change the WASD controls (I use ESDF,) so I tried out a controller, then just stuck with it for the whole run. Having to have customizable controls patched in is kind of weak, but other than that I loved it. Easily my favorite game of 2015.
It's being praised a tad too heavily in my opinion, and I'm a huge Witcher-fan. It was really, really good though. The best game of the year, but I'm casual scum and have it followed by MGS5 and Bloodborne.
>>322780849 It's the first game the mainstream gaming community has gotten that's actually been made with love. They're used to playing rehashes and cash-ins, so when they finally got something interesting it blew their minds. It's not surprising.
Because it has best of all time world building and storytelling, that's why.
The gameplay is pretty good too, combat was satisfying and fun to play. Combat is not as interesting as Dragons Dogma for examples which deserved a better game for that good combat but it was pretty good. One of the best in ARPG's for sure, even though that's not saying much
>>322779728 >one gets hit >the other doesn't >the latter is the shitter because irrelevant things
>sidestepping an attack and striking constitutes cheese Those shitters I tells ya. Putting 10 points into signs and chaining aoe burn procs into more aoe burn procs. Using flurry at all. Using poison/bleed procs at all. Stunlocking enemies forever with alt Yrden. No honor.
I'd be the first to call the combat exemplary for the genre, after some tweaks, but it's full of holes and repetition as it is.
>>322781469 It's not a GoT ripoff, the original game is incredibly old.
It you spam attacks then your going to have a hard time (unless your playing on easy). Monsters will gang on you for spamming and humans will continue to block and then counterattack you if you spam. There is only one monster that I can think of that is spammable, and that's the first one you fight.
The game rewards you for blocking at the right time by letting you counterattack after.
The game is "deep" if you played it for more than 5 minutes.
You're totally right. Without any evidence, that poster just asserted that rather than being shit, the gameplay was great. As someone that's played the game I knew that was untrue, but as he didn't provide any evidence to support his bogus claim, I wasn't obligated to post any of my own.
>>322782305 It's a bug that happens with that wyvern IIRC it's the tower for one of your equipment sets, with the place of power next to it and you have to access it through a underwater cave with drowners
>>322782470 Now you're getting it. Don't put any more effort into the argument than your opponent is. If they say "it's shit" it's perfectly valid for you to respond with "it's good", since he didn't back his claim up you shouldn't have to either.
1st: Witcher 3 2nd: Fallout 4 3rd: MGSV The fuck? Fallout 4 and MGSV were garbage that sold only beacuse of devs telling lies whenever they could. I didn't even really liked Witcher 3 nor played BB since I don't have a PS4 but I can see why someone would enjoy those games and pick them as their GOTY but everything about F4 was garbage - poor optimization on both pc and consoles, shit gameplay, using a fucking years old engine for a next-gen game etc. and with MGSV it was literally doing same shit of extracting some prisoner over and over again hoping that next mission will finally be some good mission advancing plot. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE beacuse I don't mind it if someone likes those games, but they don't even come near GOTY by anything.
>>322775368 >mfw Witchercuckies can only spawn discussion about the game by attacking others >mfw this desperate fuck has been spamming that pic in the Metal Gear and Fallout generals trying to stir shit up >being this desperate for people to talk about this game
I just can't get into TW3. The gameplay feels stiff as fuck, and that alone turns me off from the game. The combat is not bad, it just feels boring and the animations are fucking ridiculous at how he spins the sword like he was a fan. Also, what's up with the initial village where there's this 1 minute long OST track playing over and over and over again? It was driving me nuts.
>>322775368 It's only one of the contenders I played, but I've spoiled myself enough on others to say that W3 is absolutely the most enjoyable and money's worth of experience I would've had out of games released this year anyway.
>one of the best storytelling and world building in video games >one of the best ARPG combat >100 of hours of GAMEPLAY content >free DLC >Actual expansion packs like from 15 years ago >Autists on /v/ spend dozens of hours every day reposting the same glitches and exagarate that the combat is worst of all time or something
This place has some awful fucking autists. The game is really good
>>322784604 To be honest I liked more of W1's and W2's hub system, where you'd be able to roam around in manageable sized territory filling contracts and doing side missions, and proceed to fresh new area with the main plotline.
I agree with everyone in the thread critiquing TW3's combat, the difficulty is more from making sure you have the right oils and bombs than the fighting system being good, ranged enemies could fire arrows through trees and the spells don't reliably get cast it just all feels like it need seems polish to be enjoyable, good dialogue and gwent was fun though
>>322775368 Got it on PC and PS4 because I found it really cheap. I love it. Still I think BB is better mostly because I like souls games more than I like a good story in an RPG. In the Witcher 3 the good stuff came from the story and how my intervention shape the world. In BB is about my reflexes and skill in the combat, the witcher combat is garbage.
>>322786207 It's a western game, which means that game design is the last priority. The focus is instead on creating an "immersive" experience with good presentation values. Being a good game, that is being challenging, entertaining and rewarding, is not even a concern.
>>322784604 shut the fuck up, open world has never been good just because skyrim has conditioned babies to expect it doesn't mean it's actually a good idea >>322785157 this W3's biggest strength is its writing, there is nothing to be gained by having question marks on a maps so retards can clear out 500 bandit camps and find a million caches
>>322775368 Witcher 3 is the only game there that remembers a game should be fun. It put gameplay over other things which the other games fail to do. Bloodborne is a brief g walking simulator. FO4 is the sims waste land edition. MGSV is the most empty and heart crushing game I've ever played.
Witcher 3 deserves to win the year. It's an enormous game, and well-polished; every quest gained and person you speak to feels different just for the sake of being unique. Voice acting is great, it looks great, combat still not perfect but satisfying and challenging at the higher difficulties. Disappointingly uninteresting King Of The Wild Hunt, I was expecting a bit more from Geralt's nemesis of three games, the first game used him much better. Loads of memorable moments throughout, and ends on a real high note (bad end notwithstanding).
Metal Gear Solid V has incredible gameplay, which succeeds despite deviating hard from the usual MGS formula. Doesn't have the advantage of just being an improved sequel to MGS4, it really is a wholly new game from the ground up. Unfortunately, it loses too many points for being so obviously unfinished to win, but I'd give it a deserved second.
Bloodborne is a close third. It feels like a real evolution to the Souls formula, something we failed to get from DS2. As usual the controls are tight, the level design is intricate and it's dripping with atmosphere. My main complaint is that BB feels quite lean; it's a shorter game with less bosses and weapons, instead relying on the unsatisfying chalice dungeons. The DLC goes a long way to remedy this, but I would've preferred to see the weapons it adds distributed more evenly across the main story.
I don't know why Fallout 4 is winning anything, it was a buggy mess and they really fucked the dog with the dialogue. Radiant quests are back. Base building is pleasantly easy to use, but ultimately pointless as invading enemies can just spawn wherever the fuck. Companions are unbearably shallow, just giving up their life story if you pick enough locks or mod your gun enough in their presence. It scratched my explore-and-scavenge itch, but looking back the only things it has over New Vegas are improved graphics and gunplay.
>>322787602 >So they put gameplay at the last priority and still managed to put out gameplay that's 10 times more fun than the other games. I hope you mean the other Witcher games. Because Bloodborne, MGSV, and even Fallout 4 are infinitely more fun to play than any Witcher game.
>>322787234 I wasn't huge on dark souls ill admit loved Bloodborne for its fast paced and aggressive gameplay though. Plus all the shortcuts led directly to the boss, which was nice. I think the gameplay style could work pretty well in a open world game even though I hope to fucking god from doesn't go down that path.
>>322775368 i watched my friend play it for an hour. it was mostly "follow the red footsteps" and some unbelievably clunky combat. why can't western developers program combat systems that aren't rigid as shit?
>>322787961 I did absolutely zero level grinding on Bloodborne, only leveled after clearing areas or killing bosses. Still beat it, was fun. Grinded to get health vials occasionally though I'll admit, but that takes like 5 minutes. >>322787953
>>322788228 The entire game is a grinding fest. You just keep hitting r1 to kill the same exact monsters countless times until you reach the next lamp. That's why Witcher 3 is regarded as a better game, because they know a video game should be all about fun, entertaining gameplay. Most modern AAA games too focus on making grimdark atmosphere and deep story and forgot about fun.
That said, Dark Souls' gameplay isn't just its combat. It's also about dungeon crawling and avoiding traps, and this melds with the combat. It doesn't need some DMC-tier complex combat system so long as it works well and is engaging with the other gameplay elements.
Witcher has nothing but combat and walking around accepting quests in an open world like it's a fucking MMO.
>>322788606 Enemies are much more aggressive in dark souls and there's more weapon move sets. Enemies in the Witcher 3 just look at you after doing an attack or knocking you down, which is sort of dumb. As a trade off though you get invincibility frames in Bloodborne/Dark Souls and you don't in The Witcher 3, games would be stupid hard without them.
>>322788368 >mah atmosphere Even if they add 200% more grimdark the game would still be boring if the gameplay is shit. Bloodborne's gameplay is boring because it's too easy - it lacks.any challenge this make it not rewarding at all. What's the point of progress if most enemies are more or less the same? What's the point of avoiding hits if it has regen hp and they shower blood vials on you? What's the point of.getting good if you have almost unlimited Blood Echoes to upgrade your character without any consequences?
You sound like you haven't played the game though. he's a swordsman who does magic and has a crossbow and can use traps, that's what the combat is. And using these things to defeat different enemies is the appeal.
>>322788606 In Witcher 3 enemies come in groups and are much faster/more aggressive. Different enemeis required different tactics/signs to deal with. Sometime you need preparion for stronger monsters. Bloodborne is more casual hack and slash type. You can beat most enemies by hitting r1 3 times. If that's not easy enough they give you a bunch of heath items to instantly refill tour HP. By the time you reached Forbidden Wood you'd have 100 blood vials in your storage.
>>322789014 I've played Demons Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls II (I don't have a PS4 because I'm not retarded so I haven't played BB) and I think the combat systems are pretty similar to the Witcher 3. You plan, look for openings and attack when you can, except it's a bit quicker. Maybe you should play the Witcher at a higher difficulty if that's your problem with it.
>Good writing but repetitive shit combat >A fucking buggy hunk of shit that doesn't even deserve a 7/10 with how lazy it is >An unfinished casual bait shooter disguised as a fucking stealth game >Bloodborne, an actually good game
>>322790505 >Bloodborne, an actually good game >implying anyone played it because it's an exclusive Stop talking about it, we're not going to run out and drop $460 for one game no-matter how hard you try. This is why undertale has done better than most games last year, anyone and everyone could play it. If they cared about people playing BB it'd be more widely available.
>>322791148 >>implying anyone played it because it's an exclusive Most reviewers play their games on PS4, they didn't miss Bloodborne because it's an exclusive, they chose not to pick it because they are fucking casual shits
>>322790997 >Because Witcher 3 has nothing to it outside of combat, unless you count roaming around the areas that don't have enemies looking for quest NPCs to be gameplay. Wew, how's that ADHD treating you? I love the Souls series and rarely play games for the writing in TW3 is great and it has a solid combat system on top of that. AND infinitely more people played TW3. That's why it won so much.
I haven't played Bloodborne so I can't comment on that but you're bullshitting if you think TW3 has nothing outside of its combat.
>>322791109 >Its just as easy except now bosses take 10 minutes of dodging the same attacks to kill and if the shitboxes hit you once you die. Such a epic rpg xD Are we talking about the witcher or souls games because it's the same for both and I enjoy both series.
>>322791309 Demon's Souls was PS3 exclusive and got plenty of GOTY awards. Bloodborne wasn't skipped over because it is too hardcore but because the Souls series is a rehash series and anyone who isn't a hardcore fan of the Souls series is progressively less interested in each entry. Casual (I don't mean that the way /v/ means it) fans want something new.
Bloodbone's combat sucks because it doesn't have a difficulty setting. I can storm through the entire game and I can't fucking raise the difficulty because of those kazy ass developer who couldn't even implement such a simple thing.
You know, i go in babyborne threads all the time and point out how the game you all claim is the true "deserving" goty has the same shitty combat style. Every mob and boss is dodge diagonally and attack until out of stamina. You can also cheese most with oil and molotovs, just as dumb as anything you can come up with in W3.
W3 at least excels at what it is known and expected to deliver on (settings, characters, and storytelling) and has varying monster styles while bb requires you to read a wiki or some 100 page writeup of pure speculation to have any context of what's going on and nearly every boss is a clone of the last spindly hairy bloody beast or multi-limbed/tentacled ayylmao.
>>322792542 Bloodborne literally only has it's combat to stand on and it's the victim of the same shit W3 is. W3 contains vastly more content than what you try so hard to claim it has because of your adhd.
>>322775368 2015 was a horrible year for gaming. Witcher 3 deserved it but its not like there was much competiton
>>322777184 everything other than combat was great. the combat is stupidly easy, healing items are redundant with quen, and dodge has no stamina cost. The devs claimed the combat would be "like dark souls". lol
>>322779875 Someone found a way to exploit the enemy AI to always attack a certain way if you do a certain thing and because they are smarter than a machine that never learns, it's obviously a shit game.
