Buy a decent i5 Asus laptop with a 940 2GB video and 4 GB ram thinking it will run most of games well.
Find out that most games are running pretty slow on the laptop, even with settings set to low.
Find out that the fucking Intel is just using dualcores on i5 and i7 on laptops.
The only real quadcore i5 and i7 laptops are the super overpriced shit like Razor, ROG and MSI.
I'm fucked arent I?
you will always will get fucked with gaming laptops. The power and the cpu/gpu are always going to fuck you over. Also there is no such thing as a cheap gamer laptop. There are laptops that can LOL and the ones that can't. And to think with that money you could got a mid range computer.
Well, I'm not one of those PC mustard race that wants a GAMING LAPTOP but I accompany my mum to dialysis every 2 days so I wanted a laptop to game just to entertain myself.
If I knew that this would happen, I could have just bought that Hori portable PS4 monitor with backup battery.
>I'm fucked arent I?
Yes, you fucked yourself the moment you wanted a "gaming" laptop and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.
You don't buy a laptop *to* play games on, you buy a laptop you *can* play games on.
Any gayman laptop under $1500 is going to have hardware that was considered mid-range 5 years ago
You have been hornswoggled
If you want to play games, you need a card that's in the GTX range. There are lots of mid-priced laptops out there right now with the GTX 960M, which will run everything outside of The Witcher 3 well.
You're definitely doing SOMETHING wrong, since even my 4yo i3 + 540M can run most games decently.
CPU really does not matter that much in most games. If anything, it's your low-end GPU, combined with probably too high settings in games, that is causing you issues.
Also make sure that the Nvidia Optimus system is NOT running your games with the integrated Intel HD graphics chip! This is the most common mistake / reason why modern laptop gamers are having poor framerates. Use the High Performance power mode, and check that the drivers are up to date.
Stick to 720p, no matter what your screen resolution is.
Those office Dell keyboards for $15 does the job a lot better for vidya and productivity
So anyway, I have time to return it, and get full money back, since I cant even do my Unity game projects on it.
Is the AMD FX7500 laptop better? I mean its real quadcore.
I am looking at this model:http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-E5-551G-F1EW-Notebook-Review-Update.129813.0.html
Is this any good?
>I mean its real quadcore.
Get a clue nigger
No it's not quite the same. i5 is their brand, they can call a Pentium an i5 if they want. So long as they're not making false claims about the hardware they're fine.
Play on a desktop like every nomral human being then.
If I had to play at an upscaled resolution, I'd rather not play at all. It's like people who drink super cheap 3,8%
What's the fucking point? You don't drink beer to save your life, you drink it to enjoy it, so why drink unfiltered sewage then?
why the fuck dont you just invest in a handhled ? 3ds or vita or get a cheaper laptop and emulate gaymes
>i...i want to run GRAFIX at max 4k 120 fps on a laptop
>Pies4 and xbawks exist anon
Well, I accompany my mum to dialysis every 2 days, so I bought the laptop to entertain myself for all that waiting
And Hori doesnt make Xbone portable energy/monitor and the PS4 one only provides 2 hours of energy.
Laptops are for productivity, anything else and you're spending exorbitant amounts of money for subpar results. Have a current gen console or a desktop on the side for current releases and have a few legacy/indie games installed on the laptop in case you want to play something on the go.
1. build a desktop instead
build a fucking desktop instead you monumental pleb
3. if you're too technologically illiterate to build yourself, find a service that will do it for you
4. if you insist on buying a laptop find a bespoke laptop service, they're >literally a google search away
buying mass market PCs will inevitably result in a bad time
>Laptops are for productivity, anything else and you're spending exorbitant amounts of money for subpar results. Have a current gen console or a desktop on the side for current releases and have a few legacy/indie games installed on the laptop in case you want to play something on the go.
I just sold my vita cause the only game I am interested in it is D4 and I defeated Baal on the PS3 already and Im getting DOAX3 on PS4.
Yeah, and you'll have to tweak the settings, never be able to upgrade your display, never be able to upgrade your CPU/GPU in order to get the most out of your computer's lifespan and suffer from deteriorating battery life and heating issues. If you have the money to throw around go for it, just don't expect a good value and be ready to replace it with a new one every few years.
This stupidity never ends. Anyone who has had a "gaming" laptop shits on the notion. Yet there's always a retard who does it and tries to warn the next generation. There's not a single person with an iq of 100 who was ever happy of their choice to buy a gaming laptop.
For the price of whatever laptop you're looking at you can buy a desktop and a fucking netbook.
>never be able to upgrade your display, never be able to upgrade your CPU/GPU in order to get the most out of your computer's lifespan and suffer from deteriorating battery life and heating issues
None of that is as appealing as being able to use my computer wherever I want.
This is the flaw that keeps this shitty niche business afloat.
>I know the flaws and I don't care
>these flaws sure are irritating
>why is my laptop fried 1 day after the warranty ends?
>I wish I just listened to v...
You'll be the next generation of Warners.
My laptops have all lasted 3+ years. And "not being able to upgrade your display" or whatever is not an "irritating flaw", even though most laptops can have their screens replaced pretty easily.
Thank you for reading the thread anon. Although, you seem to have missed that OP often has to spend many hours outside his house, because he still has a mother he loves higher than Japanese cartoons. This concept may seem alien to you.
Which is why you install red alert 2 on the netbook. There's never a good reason to own a gaming laptop. There's never a satisfied consumer except for the one retard who bought more than one.
Well I kinda got tired of replaying RA2YR. I mean I played it since I was 14. I bought the laptop, thinking that I can at least play DQHeroes and SaintSeiya and OnePiece and Tokiuden at least decently, mind you, they are not demanding compared to other games, but they are chugging on this laptop
>You just keep throwing money away...
I've been using laptops for 10 years and have always been satisfied with the experience, I wouldn't call that throwing money away. Enjoy being angry though.
>he thinks the reason games are running like shit is because of the CPU
>not because he got a shitty 940 mobile GPU
I'm assuming the laptop you got was the X555LB-NS51?
I mean, all in all it should be fine for driving low performance games/"high end" games from a few years [email protected] settings. Which honestly, with a laptop with that spec sheet is really all you should've been trying to run to begin with.
The CPU isn't nearly as much of a bottleneck as you think it is, it's mostly the GPU and the fact that it's all driving a 1920x1080 display.
>So I bought something expensive
>and then decided to do some research AFTER I bought it
Let's settle this.
You fell for the meme. Do you part to make sure no one falls into the same trap. I'm completely positive there's hundreds of amazing pc games you've never played that run on a netbook.
For the record a "gaming" laptop comes with the mobile version of the weakest high end card. A 940 is for general laptoping. Maybe hd movies on the go.
Looks like it can handle games just fine m8.
So that's 3 laptops in that time frame based on your other post. You've thrown away money two and a half times. The half comes for paying double for half the performance initially.
I am happy that you can afford to throw away money for shit performance but I want to help all the young anons not follow in our footsteps.
Jeez dude. You have no idea what you were doing, regardless. 940M with ancient GDDR3? Paying extra for a free botnet mem of an OS? Nah you've got a long way to go before you're anything but a console pleb.
So literally the same shitty laptop but with less RAM.
Point still stands. The laptop is fine if you want to run random shit f2p MMO's that's not TERA-tier or if you want to play JRPG's/SRPGS/old school non-graphic intensive games.
But it's not going to play anything that's remotely GPU intensive from the past few years for shit.
>A game so void of content that it runs at 60fps on PS3 even.
That childish shit is to appeal to children. Children are the only demographic stupid enough to buy gaming laptops.
Buy a $800 pc and a $200 netbook. You will not regret your choice. I would personally spend $900 on the desktop but it can be done for 8.
>mobile GPU equivalent to a $120 750ti
>laptop costs $800
Laptop kids are retarded. Literally the worst group of 'people' on this board. Kill yourself.
Again, being able to use your computer wherever you want is a huge advantage when it comes to productivity. Not so much when it comes to playing games, but like I said, it's your money so spend it how you want. I'm just saying the complaints in the OP are to be expected.
>Jeez dude. You have no idea what you were doing, regardless. 940M with ancient GDDR3? Paying extra for a free botnet mem of an OS? Nah you've got a long way to go before you're anything but a console pleb.
Also to be fair, all the laptops sold here in my country comes with Windows OS, and the ones dont have are intel celeron hardware
Just so you know. All of v, collectively, wishes you would die in a fucking fire. You're a child shilling for free for bad products in an attempt to fool even a single anon into wasting his money.
Desktop and netbook. Do not fall for memes. Do not waste your money and time.
>Not so much when it comes to playing games
I enjoy games more when I can play them in whatever environment feels most comfortable at the time. It has a much bigger impact on my enjoyment than being able to set shadows to ultra.
Thing is, you didn't buy a "gaming" laptop. You bought a regular multimedia laptop for productivity. Those specs are basically there just for watching video o browsing the internet and making sure the OS runs smoothly at the same time. Nothing about those specs are for modern gaming.
I was like Jeremy Clarkson when I bought the laptop.
"My desktop is i5 quadcore, this laptop is i5, it should be a quadcore, it should run games decently, How hard can it be?"
Such a hate boner for laptops.
I know it will be inferior to a desktop however i got to travel or work in IT (so you can tell why i am posting this right now) and frankly i am glad with my laptop, it runs shit like ARMA 3 and GTA V in high settings.
I don't know what else you fellas want to shit on me for.
But yes i despise shit like Alienware and RAZER, that shit is garbage
Because you paid $1000 for $400 worth of hardware that will be broken in a year or two of playing. You sound like you're well off so this might not be so horrific to you but your case is not most.
assuming you go with Intel + Nvidia laptops, the modern ones have pretty decent cooling, and unless you really mistreat the machine (don't clean up the dust, throw it around...), they should last for years.
I grabbed a dirt-cheap, used Asus G60vs back in 2009, and it's still running well. I even upgraded its CPU to almost a gigahertz stronger model and repasted the GPU as well. Can still run just about anything, but not on the high settings.
Know that you're paying an extra $150 to $200 to not have to put it together. Also just go to i buy power or powerpc or cyberpower and pick one. Make sure it's got good spread for funds. GPU should be the most expensive piece. Make sure the cpu is the high end i5.
Not planning to trick anyone, ya brick. It's no longer 2005.
Nobody should blow 2k on a laptop at any point, especially when you can get a superb one for less than 1000 bucks nowadays.
OP if you're still here, please get a desktop. I bought a $1000 Samsung laptop that had a quad core i5, good graphics card (can't remember which one, did have 1GB dedicated ram) 8GB ram. It still runs like shit, some games like LoL, TF2, and Cs:GO all ran at 60 fps, but most other games run like shit and are unplayable. But for that money, you could get a nice gaming desktop. Take it from me. Also the desktop can be upgraded whenever you want.
Signed anyone who has ever made the mistake of a gaming laptop. Sans the two shills in this thread. Though I'm begining to doubt that either of them are owners of more than a year.
Hey you're welcome. Not everybody is up to put it together the first time. Might look over on g to see if there's a current "build" thread going on. Look at part information. Don't let them know you're buying prebuilt.
I feel like heat and power are the two biggest flaws of laptops. But they're perfect for productivity and light gaming/emulation. You might be dissapointed trying to use it as a modern gaming machine. I use mine primarily as a mobile music production rig. And even then the CPU usage and heat gets a bit too high.
Better off with a good tablet.
Intel CPUs with the U on the end are for ultra low power situations. Probably ~65% of the per-core performance of an identically numbered mobile CPU with an M at the end instead, and less than half the wattage required. They're mostly for ultrabooks, where the slim design means a smaller battery and more concern for power consumption. Not a gaming laptop.
