It requires more skill because it does not have input buffering. While I like Melee, I don't like how people act as though the lack of an input queue makes it objectively superior to Brawl, PM, or Smash 4. Even Street Fighter and UMvC3 use input buffering. It was just the way of the future for so many people to pick it up, and it makes games feel nicer to play.

Melee:

It all just comes down to preference. As a Sm4sh player, I don't pretend that my game of choice is "better" than Melee, but I like it for what it is.

I dunno about the games, but my local Sm4sh scene is way nicer than the Melee scene. Those guys are cunts.

Dunno what it's like at high-level tho.

64 is hard as fuck to play competitively. If you're just a few hairs off, you die. All of the other Smash games (Melee included) leave so much room for error which makes the games a lot easier to pick up and play.

I just went to a Smash 4 tournament with a friend to see what they were like. Melee was there as well. The Melee players were real pricks for some reason. Is it just a melee thing or just the one I went to? They had a huge elitist vibe going compared to Smash 4 players who were welcoming to me besides some faggot Dedede player.

I play traditional and 3D fighters, so I don't really have a horse in the race.

I like Sm4sh better cause it feels like all the characters are pretty different, sans clones, and can hold their own whenever.
Melee just kinda feels boring when I fight that same IC/Falcon/Marth for the 50th time and can't do anything because I made the mistake of choosing G&W.
Sm4sh has it's faults, sure, but I'd rather take that gameplay over Melee. In terms of Single Player tho, Melee trumps the shit outta Sm4sh objectively.

If the main reason people consider Melee to have a higher skill ceiling is because of the existence of side air dodge mechanics then that is a bad reason to consider it the better game.

Do you want to know why? Because the entire fucking reason for a Smash fighting game is tech. Do you guys ever watch tournament play in melee games? There's very little tech actually used which is funny because the entire POINT of this series is to use tech but nobody fucking uses it.

That's why Wavedashing was removed. The creators wanted people to focus on tech. I don't give a shit if it's more inefficient or whatever, but it is how it was meant to be played.

To Multishine with Falco you need to Shine, Shorthop, then shine on the 5th airborne frame exactly, then jump again, and repeat this for as long as possible. Only an AI could achieve such perfection. Mew2King tries to be exactly frame perfect because he knows it's the one way he can become the absolute best player in the world, but he fails to do so consecutively. That is why he is constantly hard on himself and thinks he played bad, because he wasn't frame perfect.
