Because paid reviews, but to be fair it gets more flak than it deserves. It's a mediocre game but most people hated it with a passion due it failing to live to the insane hype pre-release.
I just Hope the same doesn't happen with XV.
Literal hype. The reviewers are forced to stick to their score to seem legitimate but if you asked anyone else at any of the places they would of course give a more reasonable score.
Reviewers play games before the public reaction is known so they give out 9's and 10's because it's always safer (and more beneficial to a publication) than thinking critically. Skyward Sword and Phantom Pain are also good examples of this.
How? Because it was actually good game. This game gets way more flack than it deserves. People just hate on it because bandwagon bullshit. Most people just sack on the same 1 or 2 arguments over and over again.
Serious though, who wore it better
See here OP >>322727679.
>A good game got good reviews? Fucking atrocity this is!
Power of hype and it honestly is nowhere near as bad as the meme goes.
It's not amazing but it has a cool world and a rather unique battle system. Plus the FMVs are terrifyingly pretty.
I'm playing through this now.
The story is shit. The gameplay feels like it was designed to be a phone game.
But for some reason I can't stop playng this shit.
It's linear as fuck, there's 0 strategy, but I just can't stop playing.
Also Sazh is the most human character
Let him go com/rav/rav the whole game anon, I dare him. Here that no strategy dumbass? I dare you to go Relentless Assault the whole game, the whole game.
But, but, hes black.
I'm not sure. So far most of the strategy I had so far has been Paradygm shift and Libra. Some buffs here and there.
I really don't feel like I'm doing many tactics. Maybe later in the game.
Sazh just feels like a regular dude. That's why I like him.
He is not trying to be a hero, or pretend to be happy, or being an emo, he is just a dude with a chocobo on his head.
Friend told me Sazh was the most annoying and boring character in the game and it made me mad
Because every site looked like related pic for several months
>Because it was actually good game
The entire story can be summed up with "we have no clue what we're doing" and ends with a literally "power of friendship" ass pull like the story was made for children. Clap your hands, boys and girls!
The combat system was also a joke and do not forget about the hallways. The entire game is practically on rails.
it does suck to be me, thanks for reminding me anon.
All these 'gaming journalism' sources wouldn't dare badmouth big blockbuster games anything more than very lightly because first and foremost they're out to appease their fans.
The ending definitely wasn't about "power of friendship". It was about exerting your free will and not being oppressed, but sure, let's call it a kiddie game because friendship just happened to be a factor in the game.
Also, how is not knowing what they're doing a bad thing. They figured it out which is all that really matters.
>the combat system was a joke
Quite the opposite. It was layered with strategy and fun. Shame you didn't like it though.
literally everyone whines about this like it really fucking matters. they were on the run from the government so they wouldn't fucking get killed. sorry you didn't have more time to site-see.
That's a good question. To best describe Lightning I've brought these roses with me today. The rose has many meanings such as love, passion, and beauty but it is also linked with new theories, epiphanies, and ideas. By experiencing the story of Final Fantasy as it unfolds around Lightning you can create your own story along with her.
>by experiencing the story of Final Fantasy as it unfolds around Lightning you can create your own story along with her.
well someone has to since the writers didn't
>The ending definitely wasn't about "power of friendship". It was about exerting your free will and not being oppressed
Right, so all those people who left behind friends, family, and loved ones didn't want it bad enough.
>They figured it out which is all that really matters
Not really. Even when the final boss says that destroying it will friend the end to the world, what do they do? Destroy it and give it exactly what they want. Of course, Squenix, being the hacks they are, do another asspull to save the world because fuck it.
>It was layered with strategy and fun
Maybe so someone who only ever plays JRPGs.
>who cares about an RPG being one long, linear hallway
Playing the previous games in the series.
Obviously you and I have very different definitions of an enjoyable game. To each his/her own I guess.I found the story quite interesting, but it's whatever. Regardless of all the hate, the game is well-loved.
The other people weren't saved by Etro
It's not an asspull, it was heavily foreshadowed before
Do you remember "if we have the power to destroy cocoon, we also have the power to save it"?
It was strategic and fun
Oh, like FFX? Or like the ps1 games that actually had prerendered backgrounds?
FFXIII is a game that sacrificed all the traditional final fantasy elements in order to tell a good story.
And then failed to tell a good story.
It also had a twenty hour tutorial.
>All the people who left behind friends, family, etc didn't want it bad enough
Are we even talking about the same thing?
>They were willing to build their own world rather than be controlled by the Fal'Cie. Seems like a pretty human decision to me. As far as Bhunivelze is concerned, he's pretty much following a similar pattern as the Fal'Cie, but his will is free, so he's just gonna do whatever he wants. I will admit that the ending was kind of 'iffy' for me, but I'm not about to complain about it.
>someone who only plays JRPGs
I play more than just JRPGs, so you can curve that argument to someone more applicable.
>who cares about an RPG being one long hallway
I never said that. I only said that it wasn't an issue considering the predicament of the cast. Had they been in a different situation where they had the time and freedom to run around, the linearity wouldn't have been so easily forgiven.
I've played the older games, not all, but enough. I've also just played other freeroam RPGs in general. I'm very familiar with the large scope of those games with the overworld, and even FFXII which had one insanely massive world to explore, but that doesn't make FFXIII's linearity an issue for me. It really wasn't that big of a deal.
X's linearity makes sense plotwise and was clearly intentional, and pre-rendered backgrounds have nothing to do with that. Even still X has things to do outside of walking from one end of a hallway to another while fighting enemies. Speaking of things to do, I think one of XIII's biggest problems isn't the linearity, but moreso that the areas don't feel "real". They suffer from the same problems Dark Souls 2 does, in that the areas are disjointed "levels" rather than places people would build/inhabit.
Why do you faggots keep making threads about this and LR? Let the 13 series die. It was the low point of FF and everyone with a brain knows it. Who cares how wrong reviewers were? The game was burnt ass hair on release and it still is. Leave it in the past where it belongs and let's talk about good games.
>X's linearity makes sense plotwise
XIII's linearity also makes sense plotwise, so they're in the same boat no matter how you slice it. I honestly don't see how people defend X's linearity while whining about XIII's and this coming from someone who loves both games.
>areas don't feel real...disjointed levels rather than places people would build/inhabit
Can't agree with this. The majority of the game takes place in areas where only monsters live. All the human populated locations feel perfectly real. You do take some ass-backwards pathways to get around in Hope's hometown, but it all makes relative sense and it would be the first game that took some liberties with stuff like that. I wouldn't really call this an issue, but obviously we have differing viewpoints.
XIII's linearity makes sense plot wise even more
And no they can't just fuck around, if they do Nautilus happens and they get captured
And the places feel very alive, look at Nautilus again for example
Why can't this meme die instead?
It always happens
>XI comes out
>people cry and complain
>X-2 comes out
>people cry and complain
>XII comes out
>people cry and complain
>XIII comes out
>people cry and complain
enough with this crap
Is cause you're in /v/
Yeah, and what should we discuss?
The action adventure XV with not-Kirito as the only playable character and shitty semi-modern setting?
The disgusting WoW clone?
Type-*, oh wait, we don't know shit about it.
Tifa's breast size in the "episodic" remake of a fucking 18 years old game?
Even older FF games?
Should we shit on X again? X-2? See >>322733631
This. I was expecting an all-around terrible product considering all the hate I'd read about it. What I got was an addicting and entertaining game, that just kept getting better.
The combat was fucking awesome, son!
stop using it, and utilize Repeat function.
