MGS's controls are fine, they're just not designed for casual gamers.

I don't understand how people say MGS1 had bad controls.
I played it for the first time in 2015, and I was actually surprised at how well it controlled for a PS1 game.

The only game in the MGS franchise with good controls happens to be the game which is 50% cutscene and 30% linear setpiece.

Last time I played MGS was a couple years ago and I was surprised about how much it didn't suck for a PS1 game.

I'm fine with the entire series, but I remember when MGS3 came out and none of my friends could understand the idea that square is to shoot.

Not only that, but you hold it to aim and if you let go of the button too slowly, you put the gun down without shooting. But if you have an assault rifle, you aim by holding square lightly and you press down hard to shoot.

Literally every console MGS had excellent controls.

It's slower than stinger but it's hardly bad. If you're having trouble hitting Wolf that's your own fault as she's not a difficult boss. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to adapt to the sniper rifle aiming.
