Red is only edgy in his fanart. In the games. He's just the strongest trainer around. And he doesn't talk because he didn't talk in the first game. And then people thought they should draw him edgy for some fucking reason
Think the Pokemon Special manga, or at least summaries of it, helped a lot. Red was a lot more competent than Ash and some relatively edgy shit happens in that manga, at least compared to the anime, so I'm guessing it evolved into Red = edgemaster at some point.
Let's get this out of the way.
This is the edgiest I've played as. He meets all the clichés.
>And then people thought they should draw him edgy for some fucking reason
its because fanartist needs that obligatory "badass" character. they couldn't do it with Ash because hes already established as the obligatory goody-two-shoes.
and pretty much what you said how the pokemon game portrayed him as when you faced him. Silent type plus that cocked head with his hat covering one eye.
its like the same shit when they showed off the villager in smash bros. they showed him swinging an axe with a smile on his face and suddenly hes "lulz so happy murdering psychopath!"
This guy has so much edge he put it on his revolver.
