Multiplayer is the least generic thing. There aren't killstreaks, who gives a fuck about leaderboards?, and there's a huge emphasis on weapon control (similar to arena shooters that /v/ loves so much)

it came out on the PC in 2007

I own every installment of Gears of War (Gears 1-3 on 360, 1 on PC and "ultimate" on bone) and it's really only fun because of local/online co-op and semi-decent multiplayer.

the reloading mechanic was the only really neat thing it brought to the table.

TPS games under went the same conversion FPS

They went from speed, aggressive play and reflexes to slow, tactical cover system shit

Gears is fun in its own way but the playstyle was distinct enough at the time and has been copied so much since that it can hardly be called the end all be all of TPS. I personally like games like Max Payne where you're given some kind special ability the enemies don't have, where you're encouraged to constantly move and you can do cool unrealistic shit.

It just depends on the game honestly. Some games work better with hp meters and others work better with regenerating health. It's dumb to say that one style of health should fit all games.

Gears of War can be both very slow and extremely fast. In fact Gears is faster than most if not all TPS games out there.

It's not Gears fault that everyone copied them in a shitty way. Gears cover is more to wall bounce if you are the type that plays faster. Which most players in Gears will be playing at Sonic speed.
