I tried, but I found the game to be thoroughly unenjoyable. Kind of bittersweet that Platinum is making the sequel, on the one hand the gameplay is guaranteed to be good but on the other I'll never enjoy it on the same level as people who got through the original.

Gestalt Nier did EVERYTHING wrong.

Kidnapping Replicant Yonah and trying to force the gestalt into her despite the Replicant having a soul/personality.

Most of it is just bad luck though with Weiss losing his memory, Gestalts relapsing, Replicants gaining sentience, and the inability for the androids to handle everything happening. Replicant Nier was just ignorant though and caused a lot of damage due to it.

I went in expecting complete shit from these threads and was pleasantly surprised. The combat was super basic, but the sheer variety of scenarios kept me entertained.

Of course it's not at all bad
It's a nice mix of mechanical puzzles, exploration and the combat is visually satisfying enough to keep you entertained for the duration of the playthrough

I actually find it's one of the only games to make spears actually feel pointy and spear-y like a spear should feel
