Does turning off HairWorks really boost FPS that much?

Yes.

Yes

Also, I don't even know why you'd want it on, it makes it look like Geralt has fucking spaghetti instead of hair. The default one looks more natural.

Are you really fucking asking that?
>>
>>322338180
Proof

turn it off. hair doesn't split into 80 million individual strands when the wind blows, its fucking stupid shit to sell video cards.

Hairworks wolves look fucking amazing, keep it on if you have the horsepower

there is a mod that turns of hairworks for geralt and leaves it one for everything else. Best mod.
>>
>>322338516
This.
Monsters without hairworks look really shitty since they also lose physics related to hair.
But turning it off for Geralt but having it on for monsters is great.
>>
the only time i went "oh that's kinda neat" is when you fight the one fiend that had the red mane. wolves were neat but they become skippable trash mobs very quickly.
>>
>>322338265
It makes his hair look greasy, which is pretty normal for such a time period.
Also it looks fantastic when they are wet.
>>
>>322339080
He's literally the only character in the game affected by Hairworks, it's inconsistent and it looks retarded while also murdering the framerate in cutscenes due to the way Hairworks works (splits into more and more hairs the closer it is to camera). Normal has it apply only to Geralt while High applies to Geralt and monsters.
Using the mod which makes it apply ONLY to monsters is the best option.
>>
>>322339405
I thought the game had the option to select between geralt or monsters patched in already?

Or maybe not, I haven't played since 1.07 so I wouldn't know
>>
>>322339491
Nope, current version is 1.11 and it still doesn't have an option to let you pick it, you need to use a mod.
>>
>>322338516
>>322338781
Fps wise how it goes ?
>>
>>322340445
You pretty much won't notice a difference with it on only for monsters in terms of framerate as long as you've got a decent Nvidia card since there are no cutscenes with monster hair up close and monster hair has much more limited hairworks implementation than Geralt's hair.

mod name/link?

google it you fucking lazy cunt. It's one of the most downloaded on nexus.

Exactly, Hairworks doesn't even look good, not to even mention the 20fps drop from enabling it. Hair naturally clumps together, where as Hairworks makes it look like each individual stand is sentient.

>>
>>322341905
No worries. But seriously how lazy do you have to be to not just simply google it. It's like "hairworks on everything but geralt" or something like that.
>>
>>322341886
I remember awhile back that the only reason for the massive fps drops is the stupid amount of tesselation used, something like 64x. AMD cards were able to use it after some tweaks to that.

I agree it doesn't look good either for the performance drop though. Should be enabled for more characters to make it worth it.
>>
>>322342079
Exactly. I do wish Nvidia had a feature like Amd Catalyst where you can limit tesselation to 16x, which looks almost indistinguishable from 64x while heavily reducing the performance detriment of hairworks and other overtesselated features (FO4's light shafts especially.) But the best solution is to simply disable most Gameworks features like hairworks and physx, as often they're not worth the hassle and glitches.
>>
>>322339491
>>322339617

You can select it as Off, Geralt, All the latter meaning Geralt + Monsters. But there's no option for only monsters, you need the mod for that
>>
>>322342886
Why the fuck would you repeat something that I've already said you retard?
>>
>>322342921

Just gave >>322339491 the info on how the patch influenced the hairworks option, that's all. Christ
>>
>>322341886
>>322338107

I use the mod that turns hairworks off for Geralt but on for beasts, thats bretty good. Makes fiends look glorious
>>
>>322338516
I want one that turns it on for his beard but leaves it off for his hair
>>
>>322342921

>>

I read that as "breasts". I just bought this game and let's just say I almost got a refund.

You fucking weirdo
>>
>>322344605

I'm at 180 hours and haven't even finished or started the expansion

The only thing it made me regret until now is that I have an 1440p monitor and thus I can't ultra everything andget 60fps.
>>
>>322346919
you can mix max + tweak some shit and get near ultra quality either way
>>
>>322344075
The mod has several options if i remember correctly
Geralts hair and beard off, monsters on
Geralts hair off, beard and monsters on
Geralts hair on, beard off, monsters on
>>
>>322347408
cool ill look at it again
>>
>>322347326

I do, I can't even see shadow difference between high and ultra, but I notice foliage and thats the biggest fps I could get
40-50 fps with that on ultra, and 40-60 with it on high.
The modded hairworks doesn't even affect it.

Would still enjoy a solid 60.

>>322347578
If you have a really solid CPU you could offload the clothing physx onto that? Might free up some GPU power?
>>
>>322347897

4670k at 4.5ghz, but clothing physics doesn't sound like they would be that taxing
>>
>>322339405
So you have a shit GPU that can't handle hairworks on Geralt 24/7 but you want to have it on every character?
Also hairworks is for highend cards. My singke 980 had no probelms i cutscenes. There's a rasn shit can be toggled, so faggots with not so good specs can atill enjoy thr game.

Get your shit together, moron.
>>
>>322348108

The original implementation doesn't make sense.

The most taxing it can get - is Geralt's hair in cutscenes
Having it on other characters/monsters won't cause fps drops like Geralt's would on weaker cards because you never go that close to them.

The way it is in game - you turn it to mid-setting and STILL get the FPS drops from Geralt and get monsters that look like shit without giving you more FPS.
>>
>>322338180
jackass, made me laugh
>>
>>322347990
Well it offloads all the physx to the CPU. So your gpu takes the rest of the workload. The draw distance in this game is what shits me the most. assets pop in way to close and if you fuck with it in ways it doesnt like then you lose a lot of frames for no good reason.
>>
Don't know if its been mentioned yet but there's a mod that turns off hairworks hair but keeps the beard hairworked, which actually looks alright and doesn't kill your framerate.
