It's not that I dislike it. It merely has the misfortune to be the least good Kirby game, which is still a pretty decent game. Even so, you can 100% it in fucking no time, it doesn't have anything even remotely difficult like a True Arena or Extra mode. It's simply lacking, all there is to it.

Because despite being fun, it does nothing noteworthy nor is there anything particularly special about it. Having his belly be an inventory is a good idea but they ditched it, copy ability mixing was pretty useless since the only actual mixed abilities are just elemental swords and bombs. Copy ability scrolls are a nice concept but Super Star-tier copy abilities are far superior anyways. The treasure hunting and chases were an okay gimmick, I guess. I get the feeling the game wanted to be something more but it just fails to wow in any aspect. At any rate it's still worth playing. Ninja ability letting you walk on water was the shit.

If you want to criticize the boss fights in K64, it would be reasonable to say that they're painfully slow to make up for the fact that Kirby himself moves like molasses, and their availability to be hit is far too low, leading many encounters to consist mostly of waiting for the boss to make itself vulnerable (although most Kirby bosses are guilty of this; not every Kirby game can be Triple Deluxe). Saying they have a lack of attacks, especially compared to fucking KA bosses, is simply false.

The big difference between a miniboss in KA and a boss fight in 64 is that the bosses generally had some sort of impact on the arena, whether that was movement or the spawning of smaller minions. Ultimately, 64's a really, terribly slow game, and that by itself can be a big enough sticking point to ruin basically everything else for a lot of people. (I totally fucked up when I read Kirby's Adventure, for some reason my mind took me to DL instead. KA has pretty good minibosses, on the whole. I've seen way better, but for the time, very strong.)
Either way, I don't totally disagree with you since, in the end, I want the same thing. K3D had really exciting fights - I wanna' see the developers go even harder, but I feel like they've gotten themselves stuck in the zone of "what Kirby should be" and are too afraid to break out of that mold.

There was a huge leap in 3D that I feel was partially brought on by the fact that the game was, y'know, in 3D. I think that they felt that the best way to get good use out of the 3DS hardware was to have bosses that got in your face a lot, with wildly dynamic camera angles compared to the norm for Kirby games - I hope they realize just how good the result was, but I also hope they notice that Pyribbit was way too opportunistic compared to other fights, where the boss could be hit almost constantly as long as you were good enough.

Pyribbit was the only boss I didn't like for just that reason. As for the whole "getting in your face" shtick I think it really only worked with the snake boss, since his body is constantly kept between layers. The witch had the best use but pretty poor execution since it's way to easy to see which objects are real or fake.

Yeah, but even those fights still played with the camera a bit, rather than just constantly holding the camera at the exact same angle/position. Even when the effect is subtle, it makes a huge difference, and I think that just the idea that they wanted bosses match up to what the camera was doing played a huge part in making them all so active. I'm not saying the 3D effects made the fights good, I'm just saying the mentality that those effects brought encouraged the designers to make good choices with them.
And Flowery Woods was amazing to me by sheer fact that they somehow managed to surprise me with fucking Whispy Woods.

I think the reason they won't do it again is twofold:
A: It would severely increase development time the more abilities/combos there are.
B: They would have to put ability mixing in all future games which would really hamper creative freedom.
If they didn't put a lot of abilities in the game to manage combos and dev time, then it would feel sparse. If they put a lot of them, it would take forever to develop.
If they removed ability mixing from the next game after that, people would complain that it's gone again. If they kept it in every game after, you get back to point A and once again limit creative freedom.

No real idea where things could go next. I imagine the next game will be another follow up to RtDL and 3D and build on there ideas (though the 3D level mechanic might get dropped). I'd really like to see them take a shot at a proper 3D platformer though.That and bring back helpers.
Air Ride is what I'd want from spin off, but it's also what I feel is the least likely.

Meta Knight became popular from his introduction in Kirby's Adventure. He was portrayed as an enigmatic character, switching from helping Kirby by giving him Invincibility Candy to blocking his path and letting his personal soldiers attack him.
He wasn't in any main Kirby games, save for a few Spinoffs, until Super Star came out expanded his role into an antagonistic one. He became even more popular because of this and is later pretty well recognized in the Kirby fandom.
After Super Star, Meta Knight became more "heroic" with his cause like trying to save the Mirror Worldand getting kidnapped along the way, stealing a chest which contains an evil entity from being released, and fighting the galaxy's strongest warrior to become more strong.

Yeah, I was joking I know a lot of people would disagree. Honestly I always hear people say crystal shards is slow but I never really felt that way, maybe slower then some other kirby games but not really slow. For me crystal shards just feels like everything I want in a kirby game, even if the other games are technically better games.
