Final Fantasy VII was supposed to be Zelda 5 first because Miyamoto had been dying to do a Zelda/Final Fantasy cross-over since the SNES.

When Squaresoft abandoned Nintendo, they changed the idea and took Zelda II which was being remade for SNES and turned it into OoT. A remnant of which is Mido and the Sage's names.
