Ok /v/ just purchased pic related, I have $5 left in my steam wallet which Ys game should I buy and which games should I pirate?
Oh and also this is my first time getting into these games.
Ys1&2
Which are the best Ys, no matter what the supposed fans think.

Which is better the pc and psp versions?
>>322306937
Chronicles+ on PC, you can get it on steam or GoG.
This is the latest version and you can switch in between each BGM type or artstyles, I have a preference for eternal.
Keep in mind that I say they are the best, but that's probably because I'm an oldfag, watch them on youtube first see if it suits your taste.
Oath in Felghana has the closest to a traditional action rpg structure and I think it'd be the easiest to get into. Origin is essentially one big dungeon crawl and Napishtim is noticeably weaker than Origin and Felghana. 1&2 are great, I love em, but they're not for everyone, Origins and Felghana are more broadly appealing.

Also keep in mind this is best Ys.
>>322307863
I've been playing some rpgmaker games lately and I'm sure I'll be good on the art and gameplay.
>>322307317
ok so origins and I&II+ got it
Feena and Reala are really bad at their jobs
>>322307863
REAH IS BETTER
>>322308225
well she's better with her lips anyways
Also is the plot of the Ys games interconnected or is it just a self contained story for each game?
>>322308225
>Diareah
>Better than the actual goddess
Please anon.
>>322308062
Origins is good but its a big dungeon crawl, keep that in mind. There are no NPCs to interact with and there is no overworld, just one big tower to climb. Thats why Felghana is often recommended as the first one to try.
>>322308535
>There are no NPCs to interact with
but there are several
>>322308525
1, 2 and origins are connected. All the rest are pretty much standalone with a few loose links between games. References to past adventures will be made and characters will show up again but its nothing too important.
>>322308535
I honestly don't mind that, but since many people are insisting guess I'll go buy the third one.
Anyone who tells you 1+II are good are retarded nostalgiafags, don't listen to them.
>>322308768
You can't really go wrong with Ys. I just think Felghana is easier to get into.
>>322308659
They show up in the lobby and repeat one line until you advance the plot and then it changes who's in the lobby (often ending up with no one down there) and what line they say. It's got nothing on the full towns in Napishtim and Felghana where every NPC's lines are updated after every minor bit of story progression, Trails style.
>>322308997
So I should just pirate the psp version then?
Fuck Khonsclard.
That shitty boss made me drop Origin two years ago.
>>322309065
yeah, and? You said there where no NPCs, not No towns. There's a shit ton of NPCs and people climbing the tower with you
the game actually kind of has a lot of story shit
>>322309517
I think he's annoying too but if you gave up with Yunica and her big fucking phoenix attack you have literally no excuse.
>>322309676
There's barely any NPC interaction because for most of the game the lobby is empty. Origins has a pretty good story, I quite like it, its just an atypical ARPG and an atypical Ys game so its not one I ever recommend people start with.
>>322309961
It's pretty standard for an Ys game. Go forward till a dead end or boss, get some story. Repeat. Actually compared to the early games it's pretty damn chatty.
Hugo is a shit head.
I can't get used to the damn bump combat system in Ys I + II, it's crazy.
What the fuck do I do against the blue guy with the sword that blocks my side attacks. I can't attack from behind since he turns around faster than I can move around him
Op here guess I'll buy Felghana and pirate I&II chronicles.
>>322310312
Depends on what you mean by chatty. Ys Origin has more story than typical for Ys, but the other games have a lot more optional dialogue.
>>322310545
there's a fair bit of talk for something people are calling a dungeon crawler
