yes the strafing was a new addition since they freed up the other directions.

Tank controls are simply rotational controls that people found annoying because it was rather bothersome to be bumping into walls while the character rotates (slow rotating speed+ having only one thumb for the d pad)

I suppose preference is subjective but i prefer to play the old "tank" games with wasd and a rotation speed slider.

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

And yes, the controllers DO work natively in these. The DirectInput controllers, that is. Xinput pads need to either re-bind the keys in the options, or use some padder type software. KB+M controls work fine IMO though.

I just beat 3 the other day after beating 1 and 2 recently.
I think 2 was probably my favorite but 3 is pretty damn close.
I really liked how 3 took what I thought made 1 scary and amplified it. What a god damn nightmare that was.
Honestly 3 would have been my favorite but I guess I just didn't enjoy the story or the characters as much as 2.

Is the general consensus around here also 2>3>1?
I wouldn't be surprised if people liked 3 better though, I think it did a lot of things better than 2 did.

It's really up in the air, there's probably more people who prefer 2 than the other games, but aside from that all three games can be placed in pretty much any order without being a weird choice.

I think it's because all three games are so different in their intent and presentation, even if the core mechanics are largely unchanged.

While 2 and 4 have mostly separated cast, their events ARE connected. The SH2 is like direct after effect of SH1's events. SH4 is all about the cult's actions between SH1 and 3, and refers to SH2.

Me too. But just look up Tomm Hulett, in case you're not familiar with his shenanigans; the guy was the director for just about all post-Team Silent SH games, and an aggressive hater of everything else except SH2. And he had minions sharing his thoughts too.

In short, there's bunch of people who'd like to consider SH2 as a totally separated "spinoff", that apparently cast away all supernatural elements.

SH isn't just full of roving monsters for anyone involved with the cult. Alessa probably triggered the biggest shitstorm, and even then only a handful of people got sucked in. Though some cult members get involved and are even manifested as monsters, like that one boss in SH3 right before going to Silent Hill.
