Tired to get my cousin that only plays CoD and Asscreed to try it.
They said they had no idea what they were doing even though I explained it to them.
How is norman a causal filter? You can easily have a well leveled breloom by then, and you can have a 6 mon team against 2 slakings that waste turns. Whitney was much more a wall than him.
SMT nocturne is my first JRPG besides nocturne and i died to matador twice. I killed him using 2 force resistance demons, 1 phys resist demon and the phys resist magatama. My phys resist demon was weak to force too so he got extra turns. I don't know why you guys say he is so hard. Maybe on hard difficulty it will be a whole other story.
Doesn't help that it's right after a point of no return.
>All those threads on release of people getting their shit slapped by Hollow Queen
this, this is why i had to replay the game and actually learn how to play it properly
This entire fucking world. After this the game is mostly smooth sailing.
i figured since it was my first smt i should go normal first. What is the differences between difficulties? So far I've gotten by with little grinding, but getting new demons is kind of a bitch.
>Optional endgame boss
That's not how casual filters work.
Bladewolf and Monsoon in MGR.
Milktank could soak up damage easily and her rollout kept dishing out more damage per turn. So if it wasn't downed or under some sort of status on turn 3 or 4, Milktank figuratively became a wrecking ball.
Only had an issue with it in one playthrough and that was because I was leveling everything evenly instead of just using one or two pokes.
For me I never had a pokeman that was strong against normal types, and Miltank's defense (or HP) was really high compared to other leaders. Not to mention Rollout literally one-shot most peoples' parties.
Christ this fight took me a while, my Ramza was a glass cannon but couldn't kill him in one turn so he would just heal from hitting me. Had to take a break from the game for a bit but then plowed through the rest of the game.
Its bulky, can heal itself, can attract your male mon, paralyze ya with stab body slam, and rollouts damage after turn 3 destorys most >21 pokemon.
That and you don't readily have access to any fighting types or fighting moves, so its a pain to deal with when you're probably only having a pigeotto, 2nd level starter, and shit party.
You deal less damage, enemies deal a lot more, 3x increase in the prices of all items, 3x trap damage, insta-kill spells have a higher chance of killing you...
Hell, you can actually die in the very second fight of the game if the RNG is a bitch.
It was a mistake on my part. I fucked up the rotation of his weakness. He changes from being vulnerable to certain attack types. The other vwebm I actually have no clue what happened. People in /smtg/ said Mediarahan triggered it when I posted the full video.
>boss appears out of nowhere
>if you don't know that buffs are needed, you're screwed.
>you probably don't have force res demon unless you prepared beforehand, which takes away the difficulty of the fight.
>can still mess you up if rng is not on your side
>tfw getting past this only to realize it's the easiest vehicle section
In most RPGs buffs aren't really prevalent.
I mean seriously who the hell uses buffs in most RPGs, Their really only useful in SMT games.
>YOU CAN'T KILL IT ISAAC! IT'S JUST GONNA KEEP REGENERATING! GET OUT OF THERE, RUN!
OH SO NOW YOU TELL ME AFTER I'VE WASTED HALF MY AMMO AND STASIS
Sonic 2 is the only game I didn't get all the emeralds on. This shit was hella gay.
This nigga show up as a level 23 while your bitch ass still level 10. AND he guardin two chests so it ain't like you gonna ignore him.
I figured. I might try hard once I get more used to the fusions. Even with the chart its hard for me to build a good team. Im just constantly bouncing between the chart and the wiki trying to find a demon with a certain resistance, and fuck trying to figure out what spells its gonna have after a couple fusions.
>Rips my team a new asshole with that one attack
>Demi fiend is barely alive
>Use lunge cause im fucked anyway
>Its a crit
Then proceeded to get killed by the random encounters, and had to fight him all over again
after Fume knight got wrekt'd he went traveling to become stronger and used the power of darkness from the shard of manus waifu. Veldstadt stayed near vendrick and slowly became hollow like him (though not at the same rate) so he actually became weaker
I used them a lot in Mother and Etrian Odyssey games.
Also, I used to play competitive Pokemon a lot, so that got me really acquainted with the concept of buffs in turn based battles.
Hindsight is 20/20, but when I first met him, I was freaking out. I thought he would go down eventually, like the RE4 regenerators.
I always see casuals complaining about this guy.
>People had trouble with this guy
>Despite needing to do nothing but spam Agi.
Most of activities in Saints Row after level 4, shit's just gets batshit insane in difficulty
not to mention the amount of levels for every activity is around 8-10
Makes sense i guess
Still a fucking pain though. Didn't help that I only found out after 5 pathetic tries that Velstadt's set gets him salty.
Oh, and these guys pre-patch
>Mother and Etrian Odyssey
not really surprising considering EO is made by the same company that does SMT/Persona. You're right about Earthbound though, especially M3. Buffs are super useful in those games.
Most people didn't know you couldn't lose the fight and just use Mickey when they first played it. Hell I didn't at first.
Xigbar was way more annoying because of his square platform circle snipe shit.
i usually take this as a joke. but ive actually seen faggots here complain and quit because of the great jaggi. thats like people saying the first goomba in super mario bros is too hard and bullshit, which means the game sucks. /v/ is just terrible
They don't swing as much anymore if you manage to get close enough.
Every other rage-inducing thing about them is still there, though
not rly a casual filter, because he was optional, but still hard as fuck
if you like, but that still isn't what a casual filter is
traditionally they would actually filter them out from something. if they're an optional boss casuals aren't filtered at all, they go and happily complete the game without bothering with them
I remember this asshole. I beat him after dying a few times but it was still annoying as hell. I would Noire from Neptunia is a pretty good casual filter, assuming the player doesn't look up how to beat her and whore out on the DLC content. Without those things you will get your ass handed to you.
>"Man this Atelier game is piss easy even by JRPG standards."
>Suddenly this fucker shows up.
Oh. For some reason I assumed you were saying Aron was a solution to Whitney so I got confused.
Also in the original games he learns Protect at 16 if I'm reading the wiki right.
>Not using buffs in Baldur's Gate and NWN games
>Not turning your average fighters that sometimes hit sometimes miss and just act as meatshields into engines of rape and destruction with haste and a ton of +1 to rolls.
It says a lot about the game when buffs make no difference. None of it good.
This motherfucker from MH Freedom 2 and Unite. I mean, the whole game was fucking hard but this guy made people drop the game.
>that zen moment when realizing you just need to stand still
I misread the wiki. ORAS he gets it at 16, original at 34. Pelipper is the way to go for the Protect method in the orginal, gets it at 25 still.
Aron can still tank those Slakings though.
that's the first time I ever had to git gud in gaming
>one of them is weak to cerberus
>telegraph attacks 9 years in advance
>shooting one of them keeps them from moving so you can focus on the other
Jesus, I mean maybe vergil 1 or the horse, but Agni and Ruda were one of the easier ones. Hells vanguard is more trouble than them.
i'm quite not getting it.
some of the guys i recognize in this thread are from advanced part of their games.
wouldn't be a casual filter placed near the beginning of the game?
then again, what kind of son of a bitch would do something like that, right?
I never did that in middle school and so I decided to do it a few years ago back when I was in college and for some reason it wasn't too bad.
Casual filter definitely though, you have to have a guide for that shit.,
I'd call anything below 4000 casual, and I would only consider things above 5000 to be high. I personally have a 63% ranked win rate so I'm still climbing.
>yfw so many on /v/ hate these games because they are shit at them
The reason behind half the level design is kind of mean, too.
"We don't want kids to beat this over a weekend during a rental, so let's make that last level both horrifying and painful."
What? Duriel was a walk in the fucking park. Anyone who says otherwise is actually mentally retarded.
The real casual filter were the fucking lightning enchanted fucking scarabs in tight quarters.
Hear me out before everyone flips their shit. For anyone who doesn't know a thing about SMT this is the first boss to really kick your shit in.
>Heavy fire and physical attacks
>Chie is weak to half the attacks
>Can cause fear
>Summons the prince that can heal her, do damage, and silence people
>Also has no weaknesses
You can easily get to her by basically just rushing every fight, but if you don't know how to fuse or haven't figured out how to manage a character's weaknesses you can get killed within a few turns. Most enemies before her are just a matter of pounding on a weakness, but this is the first real fight where that doesn't work.
They made her piss easy in Golden though.
>Giving up at the Jaggi
I spent 4 attempts trying to kill a Duramboros, over the course of 3 hours. After the third attempt I used bombs and traps, knocked it down repeatedly with a vortex hammer, and still only had 3 minutes left. I wailed on the fucker in every section it ran to, but I still barely managed to kill it. I had no trouble initially, but god damn that thing takes forever to solo. Hell, I had less trouble with a Ralthos or Laggi, but god damn.
These could be prevented.
Shiva only pulls that shit off if you're retarded enough to get him to -3 and just hitting Vishnu once will skip his Chaturbhuja phase.
Though if it was the first time the player fought them, I'd understand.
More so if it was on Hard.
>post on /v/ about how assfaggots are easy and casual as fuck
>meanwhile it's the biggest esport on earth and you could be making hundreds of thousands of dollars if it's really so easy
>also this girl will talk to you
It's a really shame they full out casualized persona. Even in the original Persona 4, after Yukiko every boss was a lot easier. It's like a quarter of the way into development they decided to make everything easier.
holy shit is sjokz still doing that lol gig? I watched seasons 2 and half of 3 and always wanted to stick it in her butt. Did anything ever come up about her whoring around the scene because that would make me sad
To be fair Shadow Kanji and Mitsuo were a pain in the ass.
Mitsuo took me like three tries, which normally wouldn't be so bad if the battle didn't last for so fucking long. But yeah, everything past Mitsuo is a cakewalk.
Congratulations, you're not a casual then.
That is a casual filter though. Imagine if someone got to the boss and had never even tried to fuse something.
It'd be a bit of a shock.
>Shiva wasn't at -3
Well then what the actual fuck.
Maybe he gets more aggressive if you take too long killing him? I don't remember how my fight with Shiva went like other than I managed to win on my first try because I had beat Vishnu before hand, and Vishnu took a while until I figured out how he works.
I learned not to fuck with +3/-3ing the secret bosses after Michael, never again.
Because the fight with Kanji was the one with Nice Guy and Tough Guy. The two extra minions who could do damage, heal, and even buff Shadow Kanji. All the while Shadow Kanji nukes you with physical and zio moves as well as poison and rage. And, in vanilla, none of them have weaknesses.
Makes sense when by the end of the game you have access to a shitton of abilities & upgrades. I wouldn't argue that Dark Murai is easier, but rather that you became more powerful than he did compared to the first fight.
/v/ misses the point. What else is new?
This boss was bullshit. If you don't take out the prince he stunlocks you, and if you aren't fast enough he buffs the shit out of her. On top of that, unless you get lucky, especially on hard mode, chie and yoskue can be pretty damn useless.
Never had issues with her since I played Mario Party so much. I knew how to mash really fast and switch off fingers when I got tired.
The Cloud trial did wear me down quite a bit though.
>hit Yunalesca up with only 30 holy waters, think nothing of it
>suddenly get to her second form
>and then her third form
>mfw it took me over a fucking hour to beat her
>Mfw 15 minutes of unskippable cutscenes before the fight
>Mfw I had to fight her four times before winning
THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE TAKING KAIRI'S HEART
>3/4 of the way through the game
I mean, yeah, she's a cunt, but posting Seymour Flux or that faggot dragon would make more sense, or even Seymour the first time you fight him in his house.
Otogi's boat level. It's not that it's hard, but if you don't learn to manage both sides of the boat, then you're fucked.
Oh, and the last part is a real treat...
man I've played through all of Bayonetta on hard and these guys (Plus their stronger counterparts) are responsible for ruining almost all of my platinum runs
they attack so goddamn fast
>Trade in bellsprout for onix in the first town
>0 problems with first gym due rock type
>0 problems with second gym due rock type
>0 problems with third gym due rock type
>0 problems with fourth gym since ghosts were still physical and weak to ground
>And people still think pokemon was only casual on recent entries
Made me give up going past the 1st level in hard mode
"O ancient wyrm, enshrouded in a blazing aura... Thy flames shall unleash the fury of hell."
Totally forgot about these bitches. Ugh.
>lose all skellies/golem/etc
>resurrect them all
>return to portal
It was worse when facing Diablo cause my minions were always WAY tougher than me.
>Those maps where you can't progress unless you let Eudy's cannons fuck you up.
I have never made it past this part, though granted I haven't tried since I was 12.
casual filter? no, that's just bullshit
i did like over 20 retries playing on fucking normal, trying to build up a strategy i would only use in that area and forget completly about it.
I tried replaying that a few months ago. I swear to god I was climbing those logs for several minutes straight.
Right after that there's this asshole gorilla that killed me and I gave up. I do remember beating the game in the past though.
While Slash is a true mother fucker on very hard because you seriously have to stun lock him by two people standing on either side to win so I have no idea what you do playing alone I'd say that the first Shredder fight is the causal filter because of the throwing
>pokemon with huge defense and moves that can incapacitate your team, and an attack that gets progressively stronger, as well as a recovery move
>when she beats you
>Teehee, I win! =^_^=
>when you beat her
>WAAA YOU BIG MEANIE I WON'T GIVE YOU YOUR BADGE
Talk about boastful winners/sore losers.
>get to Seymour Flux
>stop the game
>come back a year later
>get to Yunalesca
>haven't returned to the game since
>it has been nearly three years
I think I tried twice, maybe three times.
I don't play too many JRPGs. I love them, but I have a full time job and I love being able to get through a game in a few days more than spending a month on the same day. Sucks, really does.
Fuck everything with the Snake
The pirate ship level is the worst with his wonky ass jumps. Watching AGDQ and seeing the speedrunners have issues with that fucker made me realize I'm not the only one.
>The final boss is gonna fuck you up though.
First time I played FFX I skipped as many fights as possible and it took me like three months to finally beat that motherfucker.
Second time I played FFX I never once skipped a fight and even grinded for a little bit in some areas. It took me two hits to kill the final boss.
Fucking monster garden or whatever it was called though, jesus fucking christ, talk about a difficulty spike. You have a team that can steamroll the final boss like it's nothing and still get 1HKO'd by half the shit in there.
The worst part was, most of my friends even on normal difficulty had trouble beating Slash. If we were only playing two player, one of my friends would always give me the controller for it.
I have beaten Slash on very hard by myself, but can't remember how I did it since it was years ago, might try it again later tonight and see how I go
But Tower Knight is the literal definition of the casual filter. He's easy, but he kicks the shit out of casuals because he hits like a truck and punishes you for fucking up the fundamentals. Remember, casuals block, not roll; and Tower Knight doesn't take kindly to shields.
Is not having a "one more" really make you suck that much?
>heavy fire and physical attacks
Yosuke can boost dodging, MC can have a myriad of persons to be immune or even heal off of these attacks
Also all her physical attacks are light. How fucking underleveled were you that double fang was giving you trouble?
>can cause fear
No she can't. Only prince charming can, her rondo attack only works if you're afraid. No prince charming, no problem
>summons the prince that can heal her and silence people
He can only instill fear. He can only silence in the golden. And the fucking thing is weak to ice so you can still get one mores with chie to rack up the damage.
Like honestly. Just because you have to try some to fight her and theres not weakness on the boss itself doesn't make it hard at all. It makes it a boss. Now Original P4 Shadow Kanji, THAT was a casual filter.
So I grinded out a mimein the first few days of playing this game. Needless to say, my main party was OP, but due to the auto leveling random encounters I couldn't get my second party to a level that made this fight doable for me.
See, the thing about Whitney isn't that she's HARD, it's just that she's a wake-up-slap if you don't know what you're doing.
If you bring a female 'mon then it's standard procedure, no fucks given, but given the male ratio of the starters, almost everyone got fucked by Attract and Milk Drink.
I think she was a necessary fight to educate our younger selves.
Jokes aside, did people really have trouble with this shit?
>Fucking stabs you in the chest
Requires grinding early on, but no more grind afterward
Alright time to pass the controller to the older brother to figure out this fucking world
I got BTFO so hard by him, I almost gave up early on. Then came the exploding trees.
Weird thing is, as a kid I don't remember having any problems with it. I remember replaying it years later as a teen though and getting stuck. Did I just get stupider with time or what?
You people are stupid, this isnt a filter, it's a gimmick.
You're either lying or actually complete dogshit at mashing.
canary mary in cloud coocooland goes faster than your average tapping speed, the key is to pass her right at the end after going slow for most of the race.
It's not a casual filter, and you sure as fuck didnt beat it because I MASHED LIKE REALLY HARD GUYS FROM MARIO PARTYS
Quite recently I played a bit with my niece, she's too, well trying to teach her.
Anyways after a while her mother started playing instead.
She got stuck in a loop in the first ghost house.
It was pretty funny.
One where you jump on a P switch, so coin arrow points at a door.
If you enter that door you are sent back into a loop.
Instead you are supposed to enter a door you just came from.
>Playing against Whitney.
>Out of pp
>Miltank uses rollout
>Togepi uses struggle
>This happens 3 TIMES
WELL TURNS OUT YOU CAN PRESS DOWN TO JUMP HIGHER FUCK YOU MIYAMOTO
Don't tell me you guys chose the chaos path
you just have to keep going until you know the basic pattern of what to do. That final boss was bullshit though.
if you use any mask besides tony you are retarded
Did it the other day for the first time and my only issues were the bit where you had to shot the flame to light the things to open the door (just kind of derped to be honest) and I didn't realize there was going to be a longer hookshot so I was stumped and how to get to some areas but knew there would be something. Even killed the boss in my first attempt. I suppose the whole Iron Boots thing would be frustrating on the original version.
That FUCKING rocket level with the giant bat, just fuck that entire level! I beat it though, god fucking dammit I beat it
>One of the last shines I fucking needed
>go through that, blue coins and fucking pachinko
>"have a relaxing vacation"
>Now Original P4 Shadow Kanji, THAT was a casual filter.
Not really. I think in the original P4, I died to Shadow Yukiko once or twice but I don't think I died on another boss after that until Shadow Mitsuo.
I seriously couldn't beat this faggot without that old man you summon
Yeah, that's probably the biggest casual filter in P4. He's pretty much the first boss where you actually need to use mind charge. Pic related or Black Frost wrecks his ass.
Start with Nocturne or SMT4 if you want to go straight in to the SMT world. P3 or P4 for Persona.
If you can't counter it why are you even playing competitive?
You pick a game and play it...
I will never understand people who see a franchise/series/whatever and think: "I'm confused on where to start"
When I see something that seems interesting, I buy (or pirate) an entry and try it out. Or at east hit up a wiki for info.
How do you get into SMT? By getting into SMT you mongoloid!
>that's a nice non-Black element character you have there
>it'd be a shame if they suddenly.....became Black
>how can you call a shit game you never played because of that shit if you haven't played it
Oh I don't even know, maybe because I've seen so many threads about it I can form my own opinion about it
SMT Nocturne if you want minimal story but amazing atmosphere and solid gameplay
SMT Strange Journey if you want a great story and brutal dungeon crawling
SMT IV for a very solid though a little on the easy side rpg with more character development
>GEE, I HOPE YOU WERE EXPECTING A RANDOM BATTLE ON THIS ROUTE THAT REQUIRED YOU TO GRIND
Most of the Tartarus bosses were a pain in the ass, honestly.
In comparison, the moon bosses were pretty weak. You'd think the Tartarus bosses would be the on the weaker side and the moon bosses would be on the hard side. I think the only one I had trouble with was Hanged Man.
A friend of my said that the Sleeping Table was easy as fuck, but that fat shadow was hard
the other way around with me, that fat fuck was weak against physical attacks, a physical mirror should help
that fucking table in the other hand, was strong against everything, and you can't use a magic mirror cause he could spam megidolas and kill your party with one / two hits
>Immediately after the fight Karol chimes in with "lel that was easy"
Most Tartarus bosses just took a while, maybe it was cause I couldn't be bothered with buffs. Nyx was the worst.
Sleeping Table was easy if you had Mediarama.
Tales games do difficulty well, playing on Chaos with Damage modifiers was fun in Graces. Still need to play Vesperia.
>Hey, had fun with this really long, tedious protection mission, Megaman?
>Well here is the first GIT GUD boss of the game directly after with no healing, hope you learned how to time your rolls!
>Build a machine for speed and handling
>VS KING DEDEDE
GOD DAMN IT ALL
I've beaten Dedede ONE fucking time. ONCE.
Had to get that sweet harem going
I can't argue against that
>One hour of battle later
>Nyx uses Night Queen
>it hits you hard, also, it sicks you
>Nyx double turn (cause fuck you) makes a critical on you
>lol u ded
I was stuck on this fucker for about three years. Finally beat him yesterday, with the help of two others.
>one hour of battle later
>Nyx uses Moonless Gown (that gay shield that kills you instantly
>misspresses triangle (rush)
Bon Bonne is one of the few bosses that circle straffing doesn't work on. His homing missiles track really well. You either have to roll away from them or jump away from them at the last possible second. And none of your special weapons at that point can hurt him either.
