I wish SnS could leap, being able to use items doesn't really make up for the severe lack of damage (though the element power is pretty good). Even with the new charge attack it's pretty shitty in comparison to anything else.

Been using it a lot, and it seems too strong for how agile it is. Being able to leap is a huge utility and I think it needs to suffer a damage nerf to make up for it. Buffing yourself with the bug tends to feel like more effort than it's worth, considering it lasts about a minute and you have to constantly spam one of your weakest attacks to even get it up and running.

I want to like this weapon but I feel like it's a step in the wrong direction. Phial discharge is cool as hell but the way the attacks are designed are unlike most other weapons. Basically everything combos infinitely and there doesn't feel like there's any rhyme or reason to perform certain attacks over others. Whereas most weapons have a clear decision of how you should perform combos, swaxe feels like a weapon for a button masher.

Aerial attacks don't deal extra damage in exception for some specific weapons.
Furthermore, the downtime caused by watching the player trying to hump the monster tends to be a bigger hit to your dps than just fighting it in the meanwhile.
Mounting is great for getting monsters out of rage mode or to create an opening.

Then you try to fill the "knock down bar" before the monster is capable of throwing you off.

Sharpness is measured in pixels IIRC. So each shot would reduce your current sharpness by 1 pixel. Having used GL myself, that is incredibly inaccurate. It's more likt 1/4 a pixel per shot

The Insect Glaive buff is totally worth it. You can mark the enemies with R (either shoot a long range shot by pressing R and then letting it go or hitting R after any melee attack) to make your bug more likely to get that buff. At the very least you want to get attack + something else, but all 3 really turns you into a monster killing machine.

You hit buttons depending on what you need to hit. If you have time use the slower heavy attacks, otherwise use the quick attacks and get out. Plus the reach attack for high tails (Diablos).

Unless there were significant changes in 4G, discharge is a waste of phial outside of a few cases. You'll get more out of the weapon per sharpness, per time, and per phial with basic sword strikes, and the most damaging move is HnS. Discharge is best when hitting a monster that's too hard for a normal attack.

Ok, on the upswing of the ax hitting x like it owes you money and fucked your sister gives you alternating diagonal slashes that you can do at the cost of stamina. In my opinion doing that is better in most cases for a downed monster with the occasional sword burst. You just have to be aware of the monster's patterns and do what feels right plus the sword mode has shit mobility.

I haven't used gunlance since Portable 3rd, but if I remember correctly, you're supposed to mix shots into your combos. In particular, there are ways to charge your normal shots to make them do more damage at the cost of time.

Now I'm looking up the changes for the 4U Gunlance. It looks like they nerfed the poking damage a bit, but buffed the shell damage. So in theory, you'll want to be shooting out your shells as much as possible. Apparently, the shells don't give a fuck about hardness or anything and just do a set amount of damage, so they're really great at breaking parts you can shoot.

Try to wyvern fire whenever you get a chance. In the meantime, keep shelling the monster. Use charged shots if possible by holding the button down after poking. If you're in a situation where you can't reload, keep poking until you can.
