Everyone I know sticks with SF4 instead after trying to learn VF as well, was I too rough with them in KOF and VF?

It doesn't have a lot of explosive presentation but fuck that, it plays like butter.

The ONLY thing good about it is the mechanics. It fails in almost every other way, from character design to general art direction.

I doubt a game will ever compare to something like Soul Calibur 5 where there is only one or two characters generally considered to be unviable by most people, but even then an argument can still be made for them to some degree.

They mean a hell of a lot less in a game like VF than, say, a game like SF4.

3D games in general (except maybe Tekken, but I don't really consider Tekken a 3D game. More like 2.5d) are much more about the player than the character. VF is no exception. A "lower tier" can always out play a higher tier much more consistently than in a 2d game like Marvel where you just get steamrolled by a better character or shitty match up.

Therefore playing a character that suits you is generally much more important than their tier.

People try to "objectively" measure games when they want to call one of them the best, and ignore how much they actually like the games. This is stupid.

VF5 is not nearly the best fighting game, nor is it the most complex. For instance, just about every decent 2D fighter is better than VF5 and every other 3D fighter. Most of them are more complex too, sometimes vastly so. Anime games, KOF, Marvel, and so on are all much better than any Virtua Fighter game.

Makoto has always been considered at least A tier. Most 3S pros will tell you the tier list goes Chun, Yun, Mak (...), some might even put Makoto at #2 or #1

As for beating Chun consistently, it has always happened. Kens, Dudleys, Makotos, Yuns...Have and do beat high-level Chuns consistently. What has changed as of late is that a lot of the current best 3S players are all Makoto mains, so you're seeing a lot of her

Simple, because I like them more. How much you like a game is the only way to measure it, and the best game is the one you like the most. 3D fighters in general are much more clumsy and boring than 2D fighters. Block button, awkward and clumsy movement, stupidly large command list, etc.

Not even nasty O/S, she has nasty mixups. If you have SA2 and the execution to pull it off, you can do 80% damage from a single Karakusa. In characters that get stunned from the combo you can get a 100% if you have another SA2 meter to finish them off

While Virtua Fighter is hard to learn for a game as popular as it is, the hardest would be VF3. At least when it came out. Being so much of a jump from 2.

VF is like a reverse SMT, it takes everything about fighting games and just makes it barebones.
