Alright /v/, someone make a room. I'm down for one, and only one, quest.
AKA MH4U thread. Only moderate shitposting allowed.
>just did a gypceros capture mission but didn't bring any capture tools, figured the other party members did if he initiated the quest
>down the gypceros at least twice with my insect glaive vaults when it's at low health
>even when it's playing dead
>nobody captures it
Why is the female Narscylla armor so good looking and the Narsylla GS path so easy to upgrade. Blue sharpness wrecks thru all the hard armor and armor skills make iz ezpz to capture monsters.
So at what point can I upgrade my Bone Staff+ into Bone Glaive? Shit's wanting Monster BoneL and + and S. Queen claws. Probably going Gullshad because pretty butterflies and also gotta go fast.
>mfw rathian plate
First time the desire sensor's really got me
Anyone want to hunt some mons with me?
join gathering hall: 56-6764-5545-7505
I'm up for anything hr1-hr2, have some bad gear and I'll tag along, I'm an above avarage player but I've been helping everyone kill the spider hr1>hr2 urgent quest so I don't really rank up myself at all
>tfw finishing your AUXL set right as you transition into village high rank
Fuck I still have a lot of low rank weapons that need my attention
And I still haven't fought a basarios
>Gore's actual damage output compared to his damage in the demo
I've been running around with the same damn charge blade for so long now and I see no new ones. Besides the upgrades for Rathian CB and Zamtrios CB. Ahh, fuck it I'll start making other weapons because there's at least some variety in those. I also noticed that the insect glaive doesn't get much either.
It has a wide range attack that sends you flying forward like the spirit finisher, but unlike LS the IG doesn't have to use it (it's not even part of its best dps combo).
Expect randoms to trip the fuck out of you with it though
IF A TEAMMATE LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE ABOUT TO TRIP YOU, USE THE SWEEP ATTACK (X+A). IT REPLACES ONE ATTACK OF YOUR COMBO, HAS SUPER ARMOUR, AND PROTECTS THE FOLLOWING STAB/SIDEHOP WITH SUPER ARMOUR AS WELL.
That depends on your combo.
XXA is vertical vertical horizontal. Just keep an eye on your teammates and if you think you might trip someone dodge away to the side and keep it up.
How the fuck am I supposed to craft the only fucking armor with Focus ? One of the materials seems to appear randomly when I use the farm, and I don't even know how to get the others.
You have to "awaken" it.
How many weapons have shit like this? I just learned the SnS jump slash does this too.
Does Hammer have a super armor combo?
It displays it now. There's a bunch of little quality of life improvements to the game.
For instance, you can now walk in more directions than just forward while you sheath a weapon.
My favourite quality of hunt improvement is that when you get knocked down you can stay down, thereof avoiding bullshit situations like being knocked against a wall and having the monster charging on top of you against the wall.
It's nice to have a decent physical LBG in low rank right from the get go.
>about 4/5 full healthbar
>get grazed by charge, lose 2/5 HP
>get knocked into wall
>get hit again while getting up
How the fuck do you deal with this
Is Tigrex supposed to be this fucking deadly?
I've never fought one before.
The new monsters are so good.
Farming Shagaru Magala is almost a pleasure
>Notice rare woods
>Najala and Nerscylla
>aw cool I wanted them in guild quests and I'm >HR2 so they should register
>Long and tiresome battle
>Also killed invading Kut Ku and drome just because
>That was a hassle let's check the quest list!
>Kut Ku, Kut Ku, Kut Ku, Kut Ku
we back bitches
what progress did you make during the down time?
I don't understand why everyone hates kut ku. Never fought it before 4, and when I did I was in my backup melee set, jaggi and a iron gospel LS. No trouble. Why does everyone hate it?
I don't understand how GQs even work. Do you obtain them based on the amount of field reports you give or what?
All I know is the guild just wants me to hunt a million Velocidromes
Don't know if this is exactly how it works but I think every time you submit a field report you have a chance to get the guild quest which you can then register. Looks like you can have up to 10 and you can switch them out.
high raw, shit reload, nice normal clips, but it can siege Piercing 2 shots which is amazing. I'm probably going to replace it for the Tiggy gun anyway that gun is a Normal shot behemoth in nearly every game it's in
I fucking love the felyne minigames
I'm seriously just doing shit quests so my cats can recover faster and I can play the minigame again
pretty much confirmed
>animu/vidya/3rd party stuff
reskins if we're lucky
I want Dante cat already
I sunk about 800 hours into the original monster hunter on ps2, it was the only online game where I made friends and had fun interesting multiplayer experiences. I used a lance, even wrote a guide on using it. I miss those guys. I need a 3ds. I'm cry.
Based on my experience so far as a HR2 hunter and getting the aircraft in single player
this one really surprised me because of how awesome it looks
Loving the CB but my heart belongs to hammer
the seltas hammer path is sexy as fuck
Tigrex is a legitimate wall for newer players. Seltas and Kut Ku can be as well, but Tigrex is something else.
Bring thunder weapons. He's pretty weak. Don't rely on flash bombs either because he's one of those monsters that blindly attacks as he is stunned.
Hammer is just so good now. They gave it a bunch of little quality of life things, such as adding combos to moves that normally didn't use to be able to do so.
I might start farming Seltas. I want some bug armor dangit.
you need the ketcha trash sword, you should be able to buy it but if you can, here the path all the way to narscylla gs
>mfw fighting Tikka Masala on that tiny fucking boat
That shit was hype as fuck. The story elements in this game are really good so I hope all the games forward focus a lot on narrative like this one
Anyone else agree? It doesn't feel like I'm just fighting random shit for the hell of it anymore but there's actually a goal
I'm enjoying this way too much and every character is pretty fun and makes me actually WANT to read what they have to say.
>smash his face
>lies on the ground
>suddenly the music changes and he becomes infected
I'm a relatively new hunter, and god damn switching from hammer to charge blade is real.
The technical levels of that weapon are way higher than hammer is. Does anyone have any tips? I watching this youtube video and got a hang of it but I wanna get good:
>Tigrex is a legitimate wall for newer players.
Tigrex is a huge pain for first timers, just keep at it. Once you learn it's attacks you'll know where to stand or where not to stand and how to attack/evade properly, after that he's a cakewalk.
Although that was when I was playing MHFU, not sure what Tigrex is like now
to quickly boost your shield perform the following
X > X+A > X+A > R
that's something that pretty much skyrockets its usability and mobility
also remember to practice those guard points and general switching.
man zamtrios is a fun fight but why does he become such a lil bitch one he inflates?
Yeah. MHFU was my last game too. I was able to solo him and Narga without any issue at one point but I'm sure they have buffed them, seeing as the Velocidrome hits a lot harder now, and Kut Ku has some new tricks up its sleeve too.
>I barricade in my dorm room to play mh4u
>don't visit /v/, don't go online
I think now it's a good time to do some low rank online quests, just completed all sandy shores quests in the village. Is everyone max rank already, will people be down for some of the more tidious low rank quests (gather shrooms, kill 50 bnahabras, gather
eggs?). I really feel these bullshit quests are much more bearable in multiplayer and I fear I've come to late to the party
>inb4 you don't need to do those to rank up
I know, but don't you like to complete every single quest?
I shit you know, my fist hunt on HR rathian gave me Ruby, 3rd fight gave me another. First match with Zinigger gave me a plate and first sub with gore also gave me a plate
quick question what does that purple bar do? I have it happen fighting infected tigrex and many gore. I usually have nullbarries before it fills up. But i have no idea what it does when it fill fully.
its even better now.
just an old dude you give an item and he multiplies it durring missions. no more bullshits farming and walking around. so farm, trades and village quests ll on the same spot at the same guy. its perfect
>Best farm in the series
Fuck you mate. P3rd's farm had variety, but no bulk.
When the Frenzy Virus bar fills fully, you lose red regenerating health and get a defence reduction debuff.
However, if you're aggressive enough in your attacks while it's still up, you'll cancel out that bar and instead achieve symbiosis with the Frenzy Virus, allowing it to grant you extra affinity for critical hits.
It's a pretty 3/10 story but I do like the idea of having to complete villager requests and quest-lines to unlock stuff and upgrade, the farm is complete shit-tier compared to gen 3 farm though and I'm not liking the exclusion of Granny Goto and replacing her with Wyjew
>that one random group you totally wreck shit with
We failed 3 capturing quest becaue we hit them too hard.
Sell 'em, unless you use bowguns. Some of them, like Burst Arowana or Sleepyfish, can be used to craft ammo instead of plants. Otherwise, I'm not sure if that LS with the Blue Cutthroats, or any other fish-based weapons at all, are in this game, so hold onto them if you want, I guess.
Aside from that;
>yfw when you can catch Plessy in the minigame
>Go through a few mishaps against Tetsu with a group
>Be one hit away from death, Tetsu get's mounted
>About to smash a potion into my mouth
>SUDDENLY RHENOPLOS OUT OF NOWHERE HEADBUTT
I have never been so mad at a video game.
welp, just beat tigrex. it was kinda underwhelming. for the past two days you guys have been telling me hes hard. and i just destroyed him in full lobster armor and immolator GS
Music doesn't start until the monster sees you.
Khezu has no eyes.
Other monsters with no eyes often have some other way to track shit in the environment through sight-like features. Heat sensors, for instance, on Gigginox and Gore Magala.
Khezu has none of that. It tastes the fucking smells in the air to track its prey.
Better than it was in 3U.
Red lasts twice as long and is stronger, but can't be refreshed. Which means that there's not as much reason to just spam spirit combos.
When it runs out, it drops to nothing, but to balance that out, you can now flow from fade slashes into spirit combo, skipping half the combo in doing so, making it so that you don't have to disturb your teammates as long or as much (not that you strictly have to in the first place if you and they are playing smart and playing well) and you have more opportunities than ever to finish the combo for buffs.
I'm currently at the Gravios quest in the storyline
I'm a bit nervous considering those fucking lasers
Holy shit. I'm usually good at vidya, but holy shit, I must be retarded. How and where do I use the sushifish bait. I just don't get it, I'm trying to find fish so I put it in the water or something don't I? Why can't I use it? Please someone help an innocent dumb ass so I can get back to gitting gud
>after is censored in germany because it means anus
AFTER THIS I CANNOT WRITE AFTER THIS FUCK YOU CAPCOM
HOLY FUCK I JUST DESTROYED IT SO EASILY
Nerscylla HBG, firing Pellet 1 in siege mode. ts belly and feet (probably the best shot hitzones) attract a ridiculous number of those. It's fucking disgusting how simple that was. If I had made a beeline to him instead of gathering shit in the first area, I'm sure I would have sub-fived him.
A lot of early game monsters seem really susceptible to pellet shots.
I really like the look of the Tetsucabra long sword. Well, most of the Tetsucabra gear because of that red-blue fading. Too bad there aren't that many weapons for it.
*teleports behind you*
The cat village has sushifish in.
A trick to fishing without sushifish bait is to wait when the thin, long orange fish are turning and facing towards the middle of the pond, that way they'll be the first to swim towards your line while all the other fish are still turning around.
what weapons is everybody using??
I mostly main the LS in solo because I'm so used to playing MHFU. dunno what I'm going to do when I start playing online as I don't want to be "that guy" who trips everyone with it...
Hunting Horn and Switch Axe
Might try to pick up SnS
having a blast with CB and switching around
using my hammer for when shit gets serious and loving the changes
how is the HH? seems kina useless in single or am I missing out??
also, when can you do area stuff, I'd like to practice useing different weapons without going out on village/guild quests
Well I don't use it, I just like how that sword looks.
I like the Tetsucabra GS better because it's just a giant chef's knife.
>trying CB for the first time but didn't really read the instructions
>overcharge my vials and all my attacks are bouncing
>takes a while for me to figure out how to load the vials
Hunting Horn's great, it has good reach and deals impact damage. The only real problem I have when using it is that most of the attack animations are really long, and I end up getting knocked around before I finish an attack.
Honestly I've been doing most of the early game with the Seltas LBG (equipped with silencer) paired with Jaggi armour (for faster reloading) and just been firing off Normal 2 shots and pellet 2 when I run out of those, but Nerscylla HBG (equipped with power barrel since I can dodge well enough to not need a shield) seemed such a massive upgrade that I couldn't help but use that, and holy fuck Pellet really rocked that Basarios belly.
I don't know what to say about that Barro Barrel though, I don't know how its stats compare to an actual, crafted Barro Barrel and I wasn't particularly interested in the actual Barro Barrel.
Early game, focus on physical shots, and ways to load / fire them faster through increased reload speed or reduced recoil. Normal 2 is a good place to start. Pierce won't be as useful until you get to longer monsters, especially given its fuckhuge recoil. Pellet has the benefit of being able to hit a single hitzone multiple times, so if it's the right monster with the right hitzone then you can do pretty good damage with that, but Normal 2 will be your bread and butter until you get a bigger pool of money, materials to combine, and selection of bowguns.
Light Bowguns are more mobile than heavy bowguns, and sheath/draw real quick, but aren't so great on the reload/recoil generally and don't typically have super huge clips. They can rapid fire shots so they're great for ammo economy (if you've actually got one that rapid fires something USEFUL). Rapid firing basically takes one bullet and splits it into multiple shots. At least two for shit like Crag, Clust, or Exhaust, usually three for anything else, sometimes rarely four at the endgame. If at least two hit, you'll have done more damage than one bullet alone, but it locks you into place pretty well.
>finishing off urgent Shaggy with an Ultra Burst to the head
Heavy Bowguns move more slowly and lack the side and backhop ability of light bowguns, but can side roll. They sheath/draw horrendously slow, but they have more power per shot and typically larger clips overall, meaning they don't have to reload as often. While they don't get the marvelous ammo economy of rapid firing, they do get crouching fire (more colloquially known as "Siege Mode"), which causes them to hunker down and load up a shit tonne of shots at once. For instance, I was loading up something like 18-20 Pellet shots with the Nerscylla HBG.
This is especially great on slow, exhausted, trapped, stunned, paralyzed, or easily predictable monsters. You can roll into siege mode, as well as side roll into siege mode, but coming out of it has some recovery so try to side roll out of it if you can.
Element shots are a bit controversial. I personally am of the opinion that they're great on both weapons, but that Light Bowguns are better suited to extended usage of them due to their amazing ammo economy. Heavy Bowguns will do more damage with them short term, but Light Bowguns will do more damage with them long term. Don't pick your HBG specifically based on whether or not it can siege element shots though, unlike exactly what you want to do with Light Bowguns. Pick them based on being able to siege Normal, Pellet, or Pierce, and really nothing else, except maybe poison shots. That said, if they can siege an element shot in addition to those normal shots, then feel free to utilize that, as its damage is not to be laughed at. Just make sure that the monster is weak to that element before using it first though.
You can download a patch right now from the eshop and claim your starter pack when you get the game.
I'm jumping between weapons again like I did in 3U. I really just need to stick to a few. Might end up maining Lance for solo and using Hunting Horn and LBG when with friends.
Then don't be that guy. It's easier than ever to not trip people with it.
If you go in a room with a lance, warn them and just tell them that X+A mid-combo will protect them from being tripped if by some chance they get too close.
This is a loot-driven game. Hunting the same monster multiple times will become a driving force behind your progression, as you don't level up and only really get new equipment.
The first 2-4 hours will be extremely boring as there's a lot to take in regarding what each of the mechanics of the game could do. There will be a lot of reading, and a lot of gathering, and Great Jaggi / Seltas are really easy hunts. But this is all to build you up so you have an understanding of where to look if you need shit in the future, what to take, and how to get / use items.
Some shit in supply boxes will be returned from your inventory when the quest ends.
Others will not. Bowgun ammo and bow coatings, for instance, are free pickings.
>Hammer users can punt you into the air and let you use jumping attacks
>kill Jhen Modra outside of the of the walkable map
