Tigrex is a huge pain for first timers, just keep at it. Once you learn it's attacks you'll know where to stand or where not to stand and how to attack/evade properly, after that he's a cakewalk.

Red lasts twice as long and is stronger, but can't be refreshed. Which means that there's not as much reason to just spam spirit combos.

When it runs out, it drops to nothing, but to balance that out, you can now flow from fade slashes into spirit combo, skipping half the combo in doing so, making it so that you don't have to disturb your teammates as long or as much (not that you strictly have to in the first place if you and they are playing smart and playing well) and you have more opportunities than ever to finish the combo for buffs.

Hunting Horn's great, it has good reach and deals impact damage. The only real problem I have when using it is that most of the attack animations are really long, and I end up getting knocked around before I finish an attack.

Honestly I've been doing most of the early game with the Seltas LBG (equipped with silencer) paired with Jaggi armour (for faster reloading) and just been firing off Normal 2 shots and pellet 2 when I run out of those, but Nerscylla HBG (equipped with power barrel since I can dodge well enough to not need a shield) seemed such a massive upgrade that I couldn't help but use that, and holy fuck Pellet really rocked that Basarios belly.

I don't know what to say about that Barro Barrel though, I don't know how its stats compare to an actual, crafted Barro Barrel and I wasn't particularly interested in the actual Barro Barrel.

Early game, focus on physical shots, and ways to load / fire them faster through increased reload speed or reduced recoil. Normal 2 is a good place to start. Pierce won't be as useful until you get to longer monsters, especially given its fuckhuge recoil. Pellet has the benefit of being able to hit a single hitzone multiple times, so if it's the right monster with the right hitzone then you can do pretty good damage with that, but Normal 2 will be your bread and butter until you get a bigger pool of money, materials to combine, and selection of bowguns.

Light Bowguns are more mobile than heavy bowguns, and sheath/draw real quick, but aren't so great on the reload/recoil generally and don't typically have super huge clips. They can rapid fire shots so they're great for ammo economy (if you've actually got one that rapid fires something USEFUL). Rapid firing basically takes one bullet and splits it into multiple shots. At least two for shit like Crag, Clust, or Exhaust, usually three for anything else, sometimes rarely four at the endgame. If at least two hit, you'll have done more damage than one bullet alone, but it locks you into place pretty well.

Heavy Bowguns move more slowly and lack the side and backhop ability of light bowguns, but can side roll. They sheath/draw horrendously slow, but they have more power per shot and typically larger clips overall, meaning they don't have to reload as often. While they don't get the marvelous ammo economy of rapid firing, they do get crouching fire (more colloquially known as "Siege Mode"), which causes them to hunker down and load up a shit tonne of shots at once. For instance, I was loading up something like 18-20 Pellet shots with the Nerscylla HBG.

This is especially great on slow, exhausted, trapped, stunned, paralyzed, or easily predictable monsters. You can roll into siege mode, as well as side roll into siege mode, but coming out of it has some recovery so try to side roll out of it if you can.

Element shots are a bit controversial. I personally am of the opinion that they're great on both weapons, but that Light Bowguns are better suited to extended usage of them due to their amazing ammo economy. Heavy Bowguns will do more damage with them short term, but Light Bowguns will do more damage with them long term. Don't pick your HBG specifically based on whether or not it can siege element shots though, unlike exactly what you want to do with Light Bowguns. Pick them based on being able to siege Normal, Pellet, or Pierce, and really nothing else, except maybe poison shots. That said, if they can siege an element shot in addition to those normal shots, then feel free to utilize that, as its damage is not to be laughed at. Just make sure that the monster is weak to that element before using it first though.

Now, I can't say for later in the game, but early game the Seltas LBG and Nerscylla HBG seem to be exceptionally good, so go with those if that's where you are.

This is a loot-driven game. Hunting the same monster multiple times will become a driving force behind your progression, as you don't level up and only really get new equipment.

The first 2-4 hours will be extremely boring as there's a lot to take in regarding what each of the mechanics of the game could do. There will be a lot of reading, and a lot of gathering, and Great Jaggi / Seltas are really easy hunts. But this is all to build you up so you have an understanding of where to look if you need shit in the future, what to take, and how to get / use items.

Some shit in supply boxes will be returned from your inventory when the quest ends.

Others will not. Bowgun ammo and bow coatings, for instance, are free pickings.
