Metal Gear Solid 2 is philosophical and postmodern, if that's up your alley. Not sure if I would call it existential, but it's metaphysical insofar as it's, on a certain level, a game about games and how they interact with the player.

That model is really misleading in how stiff the brain and central nervous system is. It's rather delicate and floppy more it's kind of more like warming jello and extremely pliable. Just holding a brain in your hand will dent it from the weight alone and the nervous system is more like of loose skin and fat than something that looks plastic.

Because it looks simple. It's not. In the same way a car looks like some metal tossed on wheels and some seats inside. Simple enough but you're forgetting pretty much every single piece of mechanics or electronics in the thing.
You're seeing it from a non-microscopic view. The same way the brain looks like a lump of crumpled fat and your eyes don't see the individual neurons or interactions at that scale.

Really? Because the human body isn't built for blood to transport oxygen to the various organs and tissue? We can just absorb oxygen through our skin, now? Great news - the only way to suffocate a human is to drown them. In water that doesn't contain oxygen. I.e. not water.

When I was younger I'd always get really freaked out when I thought about that. The fact there's blood constantly moving in your body, organs constantly pumping, tones of things you had no idea where even there and that you can't control.

It was such a shocking experience learning that. It's like you were a robot and never knew it, then one day you look inside to find gears and circuits.

>How long would someone live for if you stripped them down to this instantly?
About 560ms to 610ms on average. The time it takes that mess to hit the floor and then their brain is gone for good because it can't survive that fall without the arachnoid tissue or skull to protect it. Also those are organs, so if your ray gun destroyed organs it would destroy that as well.

I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself. We are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody’s nobody. I think the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

Life does not exist. You don't have a soul or spirit. You're nothing more than a bunch of atoms, no different than a quantum computer, and you'll stop existing when you die.

You are just a machine that will brake down one day -- is that so hard to understand? You have no value, worth, meaning, or anything. When you permanently die, it'll be as if you never existed on earth. So why does right or wrong against you matter in that sense? Emotions and feelings are an illusion created by your brain. You are a bunch of atoms, nothing more than that. Living/life do not exist in a physical sense, the atoms in your brain are arranged in such a way so you think that you are life or something else other than a bunch of atoms.

Just because humans have arbitrary categories and give those things that fall under those categories names, that doesn't make doing something that fall under those categories wrong or right. What is life and what isn't life is nothing more than your imagination. So if I "kill" "someone", it's only because you think that something is living. Also what you believe is right or wrong is all your imagination as well. There is no universal right or wrong to things, right or wrong doesn't physically exist like atoms do.

I am not "alive", I am just a bunch of atoms. Life doesn't exist, it is a term that is a secondary quality.

Life is pointless, without purpose, meaning, and reason. There is absolutely no reason to live life. Your life will end and you will stop existing. Making up a reason for you to live is like making up a reason why a computer or rock should live. From a physical standpoint, you are no different than a rock. What you think is entirely based on the arrangement of molecules in your head. If you get Alzheimer's, you will forget things. There is nothing special about you or your mind. You will stop existing one day and you will never think, see, touch, taste, smell, or hear anything else ever again. It will be as if the big bang or this universe never occurred from your point of view.

Theoretically and actually, yes. But it needs to be an advanced computer and it's not straight data mapping like ram. Our minds are basically dynamically compressed encrypted data. We link some neurons to other neurons and generate a whole webbed scheme of data interacting at the abstract and physical level. So it'd need to be able to store that map in a proper fashion and everyone's map is somewhat different.
With an even more complex system you wouldn't even need to emulate the brain, your essence is abstractable to code process. The biggest issue is your brain generally expects stimuli to work with though, so you'd need to be able to represent that as well to work with it.

Existentialism is the excuse people give that their made up beliefs such as reason/value/meaning are true from their perspective.

Just because someone believes that a point to life isn't objective does not mean that believing in a subjective reason for your life is not based on logical fallacies.

I'm glad that there is no afterlife. Everyone will go back to nothingness where they belong and it'll be as if the big bang accident never occurred. Things will go back to normal.

Uploading your mind to a computer would just create a copy, which isn't technically you. You'll still age and die.

absolutely everything that we do is done with the human body, and I think its a mistake to separate it logically from the brain, since the brain shuts off almost immediately after you take too many stimulants away

work
learning and information storage
every environmental interaction
reproduction
creation of more machines

certain parts of your brain are not even aware of the activity of other parts of your brain. Somehow there is a 'you' that can access things like memories, desires, or instincts, but those subcomponents are not you, nor are they even aware of themselves

Anyone responding to the question of what the reason of life is, because if it doesn't align with the facts, then they're wrong. Is pleasure awesome? Definitely. Is it the meaning to life? Unlikely since so much of life is unable to experience it or has limited experience of it and how life is potentially going to take a turn where pleasure isn't really a thing anymore, though it may gain it back... really we don't know and the answer sure as fuck isn't "we know because we like the idea of <something here>." There isn't. It's like asking which gear contains the time in mechanical clock. Or what part of the computer contains the understanding or the processes it's doing. It doesn't. There is no part of you that thinks because it is the parts of you that make the thinking happen.

There is no absolute and objective morality.

Morality is just an evolutionary tool and can change due to different selective pressures.

Your opinion is meaningless. Why gives a fuck?
Your posts are meaningless. Why even bother?
This thread is meaningless. Why are you even posting?
This site is meaningless. Why are you here?
Your life is meaningless. Why live?

Death is the only equalizer.
You, me, and everyone you know will die.
You, me, and everyone else you know will have lived a pointless, futile, and utterly meaningless life.

But hey, if pretending things have meaning makes you feel better. Go ahead.

Deep down inside... You know you're worthless, and so is everything and everyone else. The girl/guy you have a crush on, the family you love, the people you meet, your enemies... You, me, and everyone and everything else might as well have never existed. Because once you die, you remember nothing, you know nothing, you're conscious of nothing, you ARE nothing.

Morrowind.

Nothing is objective. Everything relies on perception and belief. Your prime enemy is using the heart of a dead god to reconstruct an artificial god that an atheistic culture attempted to construct (Dwemer).

And you, the 'hero', aren't really a reincarnate or divine figure. You're only an individual that is instructed to go through the rituals to gain everyone's trust and eventually win the faith of the people. They believe you are what they want. You fulfill the prophecies simply by doing so. You are an artificial reincarnate stopping an artificial god from coming to being.

Yes, life seems to be a non-existent concept. Perhaps the argument can be made that solitary thoughts are a result of life only, or perhaps you could say that ANY given life form, given EXACTLY the conditions you had lived up to that point, would have had the exact same thought. Life itself may simply be a reactive-based system that's unbelievably unpredictable for us, but perfectly explainable AND predictable given knowledge of ALL conditions that life has lived.
Or maybe the thought that just popped into your head as you were sitting in your dining room, pondering the universe, is one only you would have had right then and there given your exact conditions and that defines life.

I don't know, but I think I prefer the idea that it's just a reaction system.

Why? Because I do. I do because I do. It's not a question of why. Why do you exist? And you can't suggest well I'll kill myself. Well then why the hell did you continue being born in the first place, you did that and you learned and experience and you interacted and now you think stopping might be okay and it might be okay. Because you do what you do. You might end it and if you that's what you did but for those of us who don't we didn't and we don't.

Why anything? Because.
Without because you can't why in the first place. You need because, because otherwise you can't why. The end doesn't justify the means, the end is the reason for the beginning.

what does objectively morality even mean though? So lets assume there is a God and he decides the rape is objectively immoral. What does this actually do? Does make rape victims suffer less. Won't stop rapist from doing it if they can get away with it. Makes no differnce if there is objective or non objective mortality in the universe. Eternal sonata: Chopin on his deathbed dreams of another world.
shadow of memories: have not played much but the intro scene where the character dies is quite symbolic and has a lot of cliches from mythology's and religions.
Silent hill series: has a lot of symbolism and themes from various religions (such as Kabbalah, Gnosis, bible ect..) and philosophy's about death and the afterlife.
Metal gear series: more political brings up ethics and shady government society's who manipulate behind the scenes.
Persona series: has a lot of Jungian archetypes and characters from mythologies and religions. the shadows and persona's are pretty supernatural. almost finished 3 but cant speak about it yet so 4 to me is about coming from nothing and building lifelong friendships basically. cant think about more in persona at the moment.
those are the main games of the top of my head. But I know there's heaps more on my list somewhere that I could describe as having philosophical and metaphysical elements albeit not to a extreme extent.

We are already on the way to building machines that replicate and replace human bodyparts. Small, awkward prosthetics, yes, but it's progress nonetheless.

If you suddenly download your brain into a some weird storage that replicates all the human senses in realtime, you'd have successfully transported your consciousness into a machine body. That might seem a bit outrageous, but what if the change happened gradually?

You could get bits and pieces of yourself replaced with machines, at a pace so slow you won't really mind the individual changes. Some skin grafts there, a few synthetic muscles there. Maybe a few implants to help your brain coordinate your new impressive augments.

At what point do you stop being "you"? At what point do you stop being human?

I was talking to my cousin about this exhibit earlier this weak. She's a med school student and has worked on cadavers before.

They're taught to greet the bodies Hello before they get to work and thank them after they're done. Apparently there's been a few /x/-quality incidents involving students and profs who didn't treat the bodies with respect, but she didn't get into details

Anyway, the point I was getting to is that most of the bodies at the exhibit are Chinese. Which is funny because most of them have massive dicks. Can't blame me for staring, you would too if you went to see it. It's probably engorged on a shitton of preservatives though. Also the directing scientist of the exhibit is a German dude.

Once again, Germany and Asians work together to bring us macabre, fucked up shit that's somehow also really educational.

Imagine a life where you have never been great at anything, never felt the urge to be great at anything, never felt that magnetic admiration to someone who was great at something, wanted to imitate and ultimately defeat him. Just nothing. Literally all you do in life is exist. Occupy space. pass the time. You're a chick.

You're bored, tweeting about your fucking hair and not even feeling any kind of happiness from it, just soothing your constant need to be bitter and cunty and petty toward other women. Every single thing you've done in the past year was mundane, shallow, and boring. You spent the last six hours reading kinda-interesting Reddit stories about people who made interesting Halloween hats for their kids or some stupid bullshit that you think is interesting and you may say is interesting but you're not really sure if it's really interesting. You're just fucking sitting there, gestating, fermenting, with a moist hole between your legs that guarantees you'll at least never have to get up and move around and work to support yourself.

And then you see men, over in some corner, having fun. You've never seen this before. What are they even doing? Instead of their consciousnesses merely sitting in their thick skull and revolving around itself, they are imbuing their conscious energy and intentionality into external objects, crafts, goals, projects. All the bitterness and cuntiness you feel nonstop seems to be absent, as they congratulate each other for being victorious, and happily learn from someone who defeated them. These creatures are truly content to be alive. They have found purpose in a purposeless universe.

And your gaze turns back on itself, on your self, and you realise you've never had that. You can never have it. You're just a stupid cunt.

So you get up, you walk over there, and you fucking ruin everything. Just ruin the whole fucking thing. The five seconds of attention you get will be worth destroying it. Because you're a woman.

In a single cell in your body there are more mechanisms then your conscious mind will ever be able to comprehend

Your heart is a muscle that excerts the same power as small crane each time it beats and it continously beats of an average of 2 billion times throughout your life

The human brain is a computer that can proccess who it is, the only thing in the world that has ever shown full self awarness.

Humans might not be the most unique thing in the universe but life in general is so complex that we still don't understand it after billions of manhours trying to figure it out.

Our laws can be based of off morality, just not "objective morality"
We can all pretty much agree we want to live in a world that promotes human health, happiness, well being and minimizes suffering. But thats ultimately a subjective thing to benefit us. Just look at the same sex marriage debate, most supporters of same sex marriage will say it does no or little harm to anyone, and increase human happiness and well being, so why shouldn't we have it? When some Bible thumper comes along and says homosexuality is immoral because God says so, its like saying its bad because its bad. It like a "-5 morality" in my vidya analogy. Consciousness is just a byproduct of evolution. No seriously. There's theories which suggest that the reason why humans are so "smart" is because we began walking upright and starting throwing things in order to defend ourselves and hunt.

Walking erect allows you to support the weight of a big fat brain and throwing things requires intricate calculations of distance, trajectory, and timing.

Sapience is a testament to being the greatest fucking species on the planet. The fact that we're effectively destroying the ecosystem and royally fucking up other species is because humanity is so damned good at survival, we are literally out-living the planet itself.

So hustle already. Go on! Don't you see? The world is literally your bitch. You won the fucking lottery of existence being born human. Get out there. Take thousands upon thousands of years of the biological advancements and selective self-engineering gifted to you, and use it to it's maximum potential: shitposting on the internet and making others slightly irritated before bed

Okah, gonna go out on a limb and answer both questions actually
The answer to the question you replied to is about 1.5-2 minutes of consciousness, 6 minutes before brain damage and 8+ minutes for death, you would most likely feel extremes as nerves are usually protected by skin and muscle tissue, ie. extremly cold/warm or extreme preassure to the point of pain, I would also imagene amputation symptom would be relevant and you would believe that what you saw (if you saw anything) would most likely be a trick and you would feel your body instead.

And to your question possibly the same, it is theoretically possible (imagene the nervous system being bathed in oxygenated blood) and you would possibly feel like being submerged in liquid.

However that is if the nervous system just doesn't simply shut down and goes into shoc immediently.

I'm convinced in life after death.

I mean, I was dead for 14 billion years and then I suddenly came to be. Maybe when I die, I'll just be dead for another 14 billion years, or even 14 billion universes, until my faggotry is called upon again. To me, that time would feel like no time at all.

Hell, maybe the entire Universe is stuck in a loop and we do a hard reset every few billion/trillion years, reliving the exact same shit endlessly without any idea.

Or maybe we're all already dead and our current conscious experiences are just our brains running through a life we lived unconsciously before it accepts death and shuts down forever.

Anything that doesn't actually boil down to those and plenty don't ask or imply it.
Also it's shit because war isn't bad.
Life is war and you fight it on a microscopic level and a systemic level every day. Every day you go to work, every breathe you take is another move in a never ending shifting battle, between organisms inside you, outside you, economies, people, countries.
Existence is the longest war in history and destruction and chaos are necessary for creation and order. You can not build without first extracting and decomposing. You cannot order if all things are ordered, you too would be ordered and the world would be stagnant and void. Just like war is not constant destruction but pseudo-aimed and erratic combination of destruction and peace.

Unless you're brain damaged you use 100% of your brain. You just don't do it at the same time for the same reason you don't read all words in a book simultaneously or your computer doesn't magically read all bits in ram at the same time.
Because parts of your brain have different functionality and they only work and make sense if they're separated in the first place, every part is used just not on a singular task like it was in it's entirety a general computation device, it's not.

Just because there's no citation beside their statements, doesn't mean that some of them aren't paraphrased and derived from passages or articles written by history's relevant authors/leading authoritative sources.

Among the tens of thousands of people here, some actually majored in subjects you wish you had majored in, or sat through lectures you wish you could've sat in. Discussion (even in such a place as this with varying quality) shouldn't go under appreciated. Even in valleys of trash, tidbits of treasure can be found.

I acted in the same general way. But my specific actions are not because I'm not in the same exact circumstances. The same way that my actions in the next five minutes aren't going to be the same as they were in the previous five minutes because I already took a massive shit and won't need to do so again for some time.
But for the most part, I'm the same person I was five years ago... ten years ago even and longer.

>Humanity and all life on Earth is a complex weapon made by Eldritch beings who make microbes evolve into a species advanced enough to reach an event horizon where the planet breaks and they eat the remains
>They do this to planets everywhere
>Time means nothing to them, they have waited millions of years for their next meal

This discussion is obviously in the same place it has been so I'm not sure why you are trying to ruse me

I would suggest however that you begin training your brain to experience the level of euphoria that I now possess.
>>
>>281951138
You need a brain, and the energy to maintain it. That's actually all you need. But, to get that energy, you need blood (meaning your circulatory system) to carry oxygen and nutrients (respiratory and digestive systems) to the brain. The other organ systems you have could be simulated/regulated in some artificial or laboratory environment. So you'd just be a bunch of red and blue tubes with a heart and lungs connected to a large brain mass.
>>
>>281957403

Spirit is a very ambiguous term, there is no logic behind it at all.
>>
>>281957939
Most Eldritch-tier things are. Incomprehensible and unknowable.

That's really kind of boring. It's like spending an entire movie watching the chemicals and steel meld and twist and shit because people are forging a single sword for a war. No one cares about the mechanical process of the creation of the sword, just that the sword is awesome and does what it's supposed to do. Though honestly, planets full of people are a really shitty weapon.
Also if time means nothing to them then they are immortal. Who the fuck are they fighting and why?

>HFY isn't meant to show humans losing really.
>missing the point
HFY is about instilling a sense of pride, false or not.

Some of the best HFY is about dealing with loss.

>The War. The humans, I think, knew they were doomed. Where another race would surrender to despair, the humans fought back with greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for every inch of space. In my life, I have never seen anything like it; They would weep, they would pray, they would say goodbye to their loved ones, and then throw themselves without fear or hesitation at the very face of death itself, never surrendering. No one who saw them fighting against the inevitable could help but be moved to tears by their courage. Their stubborn nobility. When they ran out of ships, they used guns, when they ran out guns they used knives and sticks and bare hands. They were magnificent. I only hope that when it is my time, I may die with half as much dignity as I saw in their eyes in the end. They did this for two years they never ran out of courage but in the end, they ran out of time.

Well derp.
Also you can't program something to not harm humanity if it doesn't know the end game of humanity and all the ways it could possibly cause harm to humanity including complex systems and ideas that even most of humanity neither know about or understand.
