I feel sorry for the anon who's been trying to design a game character for over 2 years and still hasn't finalized her clothing. Let's design his character for him so we can finally put this matter to rest.
Here are the bullet-points we need to hit:
1. The character is an outcast otaku NEET girl who obtains superpowers and starts fighting crime.
2. The character loves dark and edgy shit, so she dresses up like she's imitating her favorite grim-dark edge-lord anti-heroes.
3. The game is supposed to have a No More Heroes vibe / attitude.
4. Her weapon is a sci-fi scythe that can transform and change its shape. Apparently, this is non-negotiable, so leave if you can't stand scythes.
Ideaguys welcome, drawfriends even more welcome.
5. She needs to have a very unhealthy weight, making the issue of what her gender is moot.
6. She needs to have ideas for video games but zero knowledge and ambition for programming, networking, and fund raising.
7. Call it Depression Quest 2
Unrelated to OP but I'm making a space rpg that will play sorta like NIER, trying to figure out some alien races, so far have three eye humanoid one, faceless octopus things that use masks as faces, four armed reptilian race, and one turtle like one, any other ideas?
I just wasted my time redesigning that shit. Tried to be faithful to the game dev's punk idea.
>Little red riding hood helps her father out on the farm
Not saying it looks bad, it's very good, but its just that I'm imagining red gutting the wolf, not the woodsman if you know what I mean.
dude, a fellow designer here! it's really easy to make something that has been made in today's world. sometimes i design a character or a name and later realize it's already been done and my work would look like a ripoff. and sometimes the subliminal mind copies ideas without you knowing. happens a lot. i wish it was the 20's so I could pioneer fucking everything...
no, don't make the mistake Mass Effect made. They only ripped off about half of Star Control 2 and all the stuff they didn't rip off was garbage
you need to go whole hog and rip off the whole thing
Game dev with poor taste in character design here.
Her powers are typical "hack and slash game protagonist" powers. The ability to survive gunshots, the ability to double-jump, becoming invincible for a moment when dodge-rolling, etc.
how did she get her powers? have you actually studied story and character design? they teach this stuff even in the "make your own super hero" articles. Your game currently is going to be marked 'shallow' because all you seem to go for is aesthetic. So as a helpful advice make your character have an actual back story and think about what kind of personality she has. This is important because that determines how her alter ego is going to dress as well. would a character like tomoko from watamote dress in lingerie if she had super powers? would a neckbeard go shirtless if he got a magical sword? (maybe) make your character have an actual personality. make her real. So that this isnt completely bashful, your game engine looked great, what I saw in the other thread. Your animation needs work too though. Looked pretty clunky.
Game dev with poor taste should copy this? Why post it? That character design is certainly good, but she looks more like a goddess of death than a neet teenage girl turned superhuman.
I've written dozens of paragraphs about her backstory / personality. I just don't post about it in the threads, because the threads are about her appearance.
She dresses the way she does because she's trying to imitate her favorite game protagonists, and you know how female game characters dress.
The animations in the January demo were just temporary placeholders.
What do you want me to do, post it and spoil all of my game's plot twists?
I love the aesthetics of Scott Pilgrim and sunset overdrive. Although I'm going for more NMH.
I wish I could meet you in real life and find out how you speak to people in person.
Yeah, I get the animations were not final.
Sorry, I did not get this aspect of her in the previous thread. So she is influenced by a typical game female character... You should make it look like it then. Also, stop those cool kid poses even in the art. She should be enjoying every moment of her powertrip, not posing around. Think about Tomoko who is very much influenced by games. Im sorry if you dont know the anime/manga. Make your character partly fail in imitating a game female hero. Add more comedy. It might work then.
She needs a mech.
You can't have a power armor without a mech.
Telling your fucking CHARACTER DESIGNERS(everyone on /v/) the character's backstory is critical. How about asking how your sister should dress? Without telling anything about what kind of person she is. And you having or not having a sister doesnt matter.
>she doesn't look NEET
Is there any art of her regular form? I agree that the OP does a poor job of showing that.
>she doesn't look grim-dark edge-lord anti-hero
Yeah, it's more grungey/punky than chuuni.
The characters in that anime are chuunis who have grim-dark edge-lord anti-heroes, but they look like normal people when they're not going full autist.
i'd take it over op's "old-man idea of punk" girl with highlights personally
you know a character is flawed on a fundamental level when the creator's inspiration for her design is imitating generic female designs from videogames
