I think dark souls was better because it was challenging but never felt unfair except for a few exceptions(archers), and in dark souls 2 it just seems like instead of making it interesting with the level design, enemy placement, or enemy variety (the turtle knights were good I guess), they just have a bunch of enemies attack you at once, especially at the end of the game, and it was more a matter of running through the level to find a bonfire. I haven't played the dlc though, I heard they might be a bit better.
Dark Souls is clearly superior. Dark Souls 2 had like, two minor mechanics improvements. And plenty of mechanics dis-improvements, plus inferior level design, inferior connectedness in the world, inferior lore and inferior presentation of lore to the player, no shiny armor, inferior NPCs, inferior covenants, inferior expansions and a re-release which will fucking split the player base.
>>275913924 What is this point supposed to prove? Those aren't really comparable locations. The DS one is in a forest while the DSII one is basically just a picture of the sky-box with a tiny part of a castle in the foreground.
DaS was the best game during your first playthrough, which is what matters the most. DaS2 had some improvements, but it also fucked up other things so it doesnt manage to beat DaS (nor DeS, for that matter).
>>275914957 Idk I still think they could have done more to make it feel like less of a rehash. At some points it just seemed like they ran out of ideas, or were trying to pander to the people who played dark souls, like the re-use of a good amount of enemies, and items/bosses re-used from dark souls. I think maybe if they decided not to make it a sequel to dark souls but have its own original setting then they could've done more with it. And as for the difficulty, I think they misunderstood what made the first two games good, and just tried to make it really hard. I might be giving them too much credit here I just hope next time they try something different besides dark souls 3 or demon souls 2.
The problem with DaS2 is the difficulty. In DaS, when you die, its your own fault, it never felt cheap In 2 however, you die all the time from ether rolling off a cliff because of the awful camera, or just beeing saturated with so many enemies, you just can't manage them all.
Dark Souls 2 should never have existed, direct sequels don't play into the strengths of the series. Each game has a different name, this may seem trivial but it sets an important precedent that these games may share some similarities but are free to change up the formula in big ways. Dark Souls 2 didn't have this luxury which is why it is caught between adhering to Dark Souls 1 and doing it's own thing which is obviously unsatisfying. There were no interesting changes in Dark Souls 2, having slightly improved mechanics and fast travel from the start doesn't trump the open world/bonfires of Dark Souls or the complete setting change and combat overhaul of Bloodborne.
>Dark Souls Prepare to die on this beautiful and challenging world that will deliver a hardcore experience that will reward you once you comprehend it
>Dark Souls II YOU'RE GHOING TO DIE LOL DID I SAY DIE? HAAHA GIT GUD HAHA YOU'LL LOSE YOUR SOULS 2SPOOKY4U GET DED KIDDO HAHA MULTIPLE BOSSES WITH SHIT CAMERA AND MOBS THAT INFINITELY SPAM ATTACKS WHY? BECAUSE YOU DIE XD GIR GUF
>>275916895 >awful camera huh? never had issues with the camera. isn't it the exact same as other souls games? >so many enemies don't run straight in to places idiot. just like the other games
anyway, DeS was the shittiest as far as bullshit difficulty. bad level design with overpowered enemies on cliffs. bosses you had to cheese, because if you tried to have fun and get good, you would die over and over and have to replay the ENTIRE level again.
DaS2 is the best in the series thus far. stay mad memesters.
>>275913924 Why didn't you take a screenshot of the Brume Tower vs Demon Ruins if you were going for an obviously biased comparison.
I like DaS2 better than DaS but you never see me bad mouthing DaS around here, but i'm still forced to see those so very vocal "opinions" on DaS2 as if it was the Superman 64 of 2014 when anyone with a little bit of common sense would quickly notice how DaS2, even if it wasn't better than DaS1, it would still be a strong GOTY contender for 2014 instead of the world's biggest blunder.
I've been replaying all the souls games over the past week and after playing them back to back I feel like the first game is definitely full of more bullshit parts and parts that are just tedious and unfun. But honestly all 3 souls games suffer from some glaring flaws and I feel like DS2 suffers from less (Demon's is best though)
I booted up DaS again today, because of the steamworks integration and all, and I wanted to solo Artorias right away, since he was my favorite boss fight, but after looking all over my inventory, I couldn't find a since ascetic, then I realized that I would have to:
>Kill Gwyn >Start NG+3 >Kill Asylum Demon, Quelaag, Taurus Demon, Bell Gargoyles, Iron Golem, O&S, Hydra and Sanctuary Guardian >Plus all the walking invoved
Then I would be able to fight him once again, before having to kill the 4 lords and then gwyn and repeating the whole process if I wanted to fight him again.
No thanks, I guess I'll just pvp.
>Why the fuck would I pvp on DaS1 and not 2.
And then I was back at the BoB arena for the remainder of the day until now.
I have DS1&2 on HDD,uninstalled. Please dont kill me for wha Ill say, Played DS1 on release, semidecent looking game, nothing to write home to, but feels when I realised how refined RPG fighting in this game was , I was in love instantly.
Then I played DS2 , on PC ofc., Majula is still by far, nicest and compfiest place ever made in video game history(and I take Witcher into account).
Fast forward a year or two, worms in my ass didnt gave me pease so I installed DS1 couple of days before. It is the same game and all, but it feel somewhat unresponsive, something is not right, I cant put my finger on it but something is missing from DS1 that DS2 has, well that is my 2 cents.
>mfw dark souls 2 is by far the best game in the series >mfw the music is by FAR the most thematically fitting of the series and actually represents boss movements and tactics incredibly well >mfw the level design is condensed with fun and consistent enemy placement >mfw the pvp isn't barren and desolate because soul memory removes wooden level restrictions and you can invade hollows now >mfw the weapon design, armour design and relative abundance of said things is the most consistent of the series in quality throughout the game >mfw the atmospheric value of areas such as drangleic castle, shrine of amana and undead crypt including the other varieties of areas we were given, were simply outstanding for the relative problem from software have of succesfully putting atmospheric experience in their game design. >mfw the bosses are the fairest and least mechanically bugged in the series as of yet. >mfw the game offers the biggest quality of any vanilla souls title so far >mfw the dlc for this game is coming out as post game completion created content, unlike artorias of the abyss which was ripped from pre-development >mfw the only reason there is a massive wankforce is because people are having the same transition from demons souls whereby they realise just how uncreative from software are with their sequels and extended series >mfw people might ACTUALLY think that demons souls is an original game >mfw people are actually delusional enough to claim dark souls 1 is a better game than dark souls 2. >mfw people actually claim that demons souls is anything other than the less realised bland skeleton the future souls games massively improved upon thematically.
The reason why I always preferred DS2 over DS1 is because I didn't need to mod DS2 to get it to work like a properly ported game.
I like DS1's bosses from what I've seen of them, the story as told by Fatty Vidya's Boobtube videos, and the armors you can acquire is fantastic. The problem is that there's input lag, garbage framerates, and shitty resolution. The most recent PVP fixes for DS1 that released today is only one step in fixing the problems DS1 has on the PC. They need far more extensive fixes to make it a great game.
>>275921114 Demons souls is a boring, unfinished, uninspired kings field derivative with a less imaginative director who didn't really know what he was doing.
Dark souls was somewhat more realised and interesting, but still lacked focus and was generally uninteresting due to a huge rushed schedule.
Dark souls 2 is a polished, quality game that bought back core values of what makes games like this truly special, and I for one congratulate the team and Naotoshi Zin on accomplishing that.
Rating Bloodborne before it has been released is just silly.
You know that from are capable of masterpieces like Dark Souls 2, but if the hollowed, skeleton predecessor demons souls, or the rushed and flawed mess of dark souls 1 are anything to go by... well, I don't think it's wise to think from can strike gold twice.
>>275921495 But it is not unwinnable, use the spell/ring that silences your footsteps so the ones in the back won't notice you. If even that fails I suppose you could try casting spells/throwing fire bombs from where they can't reach you. You should really clear that, you will earn a greater divine ember that way.
At From Software HQ, there is a huge board meeting discussing the next release title >well as you can see our sales skyrocketed >WAAAAY after production >apparently were doing shit really right >so, planning commity, what should we do? >>275914320 >Sounds brilliant lets ship it >mfw
>>275922169 >while the average boss and mob in Dark Souls 2 have 2 attacks No, the average boss has 3 attacks you faggot >Slow swing >Fast swing >Swing that turns into plesioth and hits you when you're no where near the attack
>>275919958 i can actually see someone reasonably having this opinion. DaS2 atmosphere didn't jive with me as much but at the same time you can't have that childlike wonder 2 times. I wonder if it will ever happen to me again. I already didn't expect anymore since 2010 and then DaS came out of nowhere. Maybe there is yet hope
but of course it can't happen two times with the same game
Music: Dark souls 2 Game design: Dark souls 2 Combat: Dark souls 2 Weapon and armour variety: Dark souls 2 PvP: Dark souls 2 Npc's: Dark souls 2 Thematic substance through music, dialogue and area design: Dark souls 2 Enemy design and placement: Dark souls 2 Graphics: Dark souls 2 Optimisation: Dark souls 2 Magic system: Dark souls 2 NG+ mode: Dark souls 2 Bosses: Dark souls 2 Stat system: Dark souls 2 DLC: Dark souls 2 Area design: Dark souls 2 Atmosphere: Dark souls 2 World design: Dark souls Unfair bullshit: Dark souls
>>275915116 >inferior covenants Its funny because covenants were supposed to be the biggest part of Dark Souls and they were added in at the last fucking moment. Sadly, although Dark Souls is awesome, was incredibly disappointing in the amount of promised content that never made it into the game.
PC DaS fags don't realize this because they weren't paying attention to the information being released in 2010
>Black Knights were supposed to wander around the world endlessly instead of standing still >Bear armor Fuck you Miyazaki
>>275922284 I think it was something along the lines of >Hey, sony's here again, they want to make another exclusive >Sweet, put the Souls team on that >But sir, what about dark souls 2? >Ah, just put the QA team on it and put out lots of messages that it'll be hard, people will buy it in the truckload anyway
>>275922584 >swings a giant hammer as fast as a sword >so badass omg lets make a boss with a greatsword and a katana too Dark Souls 2 was abysmal to me simply for the fact that it does not take its own world seriously or logically, which Dark Souls 1 perfected
>>275922169 >Also the difference is that the 4kings have like 10 attacks while the average boss and mob in Dark Souls 2 have 2 attacks
Even the Royal Swordsmen from Lost Bastille have a more diverse moveset than DaS bosses like the fat demons, the centipede demon, the taurus demon and the moonlight butterfly.
Also, Seath the Scaleless, a major boss has Far laser, close laser and tentacles, while Demon of Song, a minor boss has tree variations of melee combos, a grab attack, the belly drop, the slide, the water orbs and the leap.
>>275922529 More like Music: Tie Game design: Dark souls 2 Combat: Dark souls 2 Weapon and armour variety: Dark souls, you do not know how disappointed I was with DS2's lack of variety and how many armor sets I wanted but either required multiple playthroughs or didn't actually exist (No Old Dragonslayer's Armor was the biggest fuck you ever). PvP: Dark souls 2 Npc's: Dark souls Thematic substance through music, dialogue and area design: Both are far too ambiguous holy fuck the entire series needs to be a tad more overt with things. Enemy design and placement: Dark Souls Graphics: Dark souls 2 Optimisation: Dark souls 2 Magic system: Dark souls 2 NG+ mode: ????? Bosses: Dark souls Stat system: Dark souls 2 DLC: ???????? Area design: Tie Atmosphere: Dark souls World design: Dark souls Unfair bullshit: Dark souls
The tracks are good, when you remember all the shit in DeS like storm king, the tower knight/penetrator theme, and the flamelurker theme, and then look in dark souls where nearly everything before ornstein and smough had very uninteresting themes like quelaag you remember that each game has standout tracks.
This game arguably has more with much better variation and inspiration, the brass use in the ruin sentinel/smelter demon theme, the attempt at actually making the flexile sentry theme seem incredibly dark and fitting the abandoned ship aesthetic, making the looking glass knight theme fit both his slow and predatory moveset, while also having transition themes that will often match his summoning ability, making the fight feel different when he summons.
The ruin sentinel/smelter demon theme is great as the rushing nature of the music comes nearly always at two distinct battle change points, that being when you kill the first sentinel or when the smelter demon sets his sword alight.
Mytha's theme can be compared in a sense to the same function the first game tried to serve with artorias's track, that being trying to feel corrupted and unnatural, hence why both didn't exactly come out as that memorable, yet served fantastic purposes for the fights.
>>275914320 ya but you can become human anywhere pop all your consumable souls at once wield your weapon in your left hand and shield in right got rid of weapon crafting which was a crap shoot 10x more bosses and content to go through varied environs and landscapes
>>275923195 Alonne's, Sinh's, Aava's, Vendrick's and Nashandra's theme are better than anything in DeS or DaS except maybe gwyn's theme. The music in DaS is garbage, almost all tracks are interchangeable and sound the same. A generic chorus and orchestra. DeS's music was forgettable too. DaS2 had by far the most varied and interesting soundtrack, especially the DLCs.
