Crash Bandilore thread #2
Discuss Crash Bandicoot's actually-pretty-deep lore.
They went back to goofy deaths in Crash 3. Like how the frog pins Crash down and kisses him.
Did Cortex give Crash jeans because he was disgusted by his Bandicock?
Why did he make Tawna so human and then choose to cover her up?
Did he change his mind on having a Bandicoot sex slave?
Coco is so moe:
Even if we were to get a (so-called) "proper" new Crash game in the style of 1-3, I'd bet money that it would be tarnished by incessant post-fx, ~cinematic~ camera movement, sticky walls, auto-climbing and voice acting.
No current developer has the balls to make a TRUE classic Crash game.
>Tiny used to look like a demon wearing converse
>My face when his most recent design
yeah there are similar areas that can be found in the gem-routes for one of the boulder levels and one of the jungle levels. none of them were mysterious places that could only be accessed via warp though. so in my mind the talley/Great! room is still somewhat of a mystery
the plane levels were OK once you figured out the most optimal route to do them in.
i hated them until i got to that point, though.
Everyday until you watch it:
posted last thread but anyway
I almost find this funny in a sad way.
Tiny was one of my favorites as a kid for obvious reasons.
The completely fucked it over by making him resemble a conventional tiger, when the tasmanian tiger is an entirely different creature and what is original aesthetic was based on.
I remember as a kid when I would keep dying on a stage I would start nitpicking the game and bitching. >How the fuck does a frog kissing me kill me god fucking dammit
>yfw the first time you rode the yellow gem in Light's Out
you have 100%'d crash 1, right anon?
What's the deal with the lab assistants?
Are they all clones?
There's that secret warp room in Crash 3 where they are beamed to all the levels, I always thought that was kinda cool.
I discovered that stage by accident when I was 7 and I could never figure out how to get back to it. Years went by and every time I played the game again I thought about that stage and whether or not I had just dreamed it. It was so vivid though. I remember looking up like ten years later how to get some of the secret gems and rediscovered it.
Tiny's huge upper body, skipped-leg-day lower body and his shoes were hilarious. He was a perfect combination of threatening and goofy. They missed the whole point with the watered down Mike Tyson Tiny.
How hard would it be to make one? I mean it's not like the first games had huge teams either, or budgets. After they had the groundwork laid for the first one, they were able to churn out the next ones in a year. I suppose even if you found enough competent people to make it, it would fall apart when a bunch of nerds try to agree about creative differences over the internet. See it happening with mods and stuff too
Robutts I think. It took me forever to realize that pretty much every human enemy in 3 besides those robed guys who threw molotov cocktails were just Lab Assistants in different outfits.
Where is Cortex's forehead N? Were there Cortex clones this whole time?
Getting all the gems in Crash 2 gives you the full ending.
I didn't get all the gems in Crash 2 until after I played Crash 3, so I always wondered what that thing that crashed into earth and released Uka Uka was.
>Getting the gem in that motherfucking level
I went to Universal Studios Hollywood sometime in the early 2000s and saw Crash and Spyro amongst movie characters. Kinda like how you would see Mickey and Donald walking around Disneyland.
I never saw them at the park again after that. Nobody believes me when I mention it. I had recorded them with a video camera but the camera was eventually stolen along with the tape so I could never really prove it.
Still, it was weird as fuck. Universal did own the IPs but it was just weird at the time.
Just thought I should mention it in case someone else saw them.
Isn't /v/ swarmed by tumblrfags now?
Can any tumblrfag that draws make some use of yourself and draw some stuff instead of shitposting about Gamergate and feminist shit in video games.
Anon, please, i have to go to bed soon, and I don't want to get my pillow wet with tears of what might but will never be.
>really feel like playing Crash Bandicoot 3 again
>remember the disc is corrupt along with my twinsanity copy despite rigours cleaning and testing
Might just buy a new copy online I don't even give a fuck about the price at this point
Getting the gem on that level is child's play compared to something like Fumbling in the Dark, Toxic Waste, The Lab, Slippery Climb or the two Bridge levels.
Because those developers were competent enough to make 3D corridors.
Yeah I think. My memory of Spyro is more clear (probably because he wasn't on all fours) but I definitely remember seeing Crash alongside him.
I tried looking for pictures of them on the Internet years ago but I guess I didn't look hard enough.
I had to rebuy Crash 3 and CTR a couple of times due to my discs getting fucked, but Crash 3 I bought like 4 times.
I have the silver "Collectors edition" version that just doesn't look good next to the other regular games.
>It's not the same
I still own my PS1 and PS2 but honestly it's fine.
The PS1 crash games look better emulated and you can play them on any toaster.
I used my dualshock via bluetooth to emulate CB2 on my laptop when I was away at a holiday house once.
I'm pretty sure Twinsanity isn't that hard to run either, although I wouldn't expect it to do well on a laptop.
>I cant even think of anyone who has tried.
What about Temple Run and its clones?
Not sure if they're from indie studios or if Temple Run even counts, but it's kinda 3Dish corridors.
When I say toaster, I don't mean your regular toaster
I'm talking a laptop with a broken internal fan that crashes when running Doom sourceports and has an idle temp of 80 degrees C.
And I just prefer a CRT and an actual console now. I used to be a huge on emulators but because I've become more of a collector in recent years I'd love to own physical copies that aren't broken.
>mfw my $200 phone can emulate CB3 and your laptop can't
>mfw my IBM thinkpad from 2006 can emulate CB3 and your laptop can't
Go to twitch. com, find the search bar and enter the anon's name.
Does anyone else get annoyed when people start hyping up a supposed new Crash game whenever Sony is about to have their E3 keynote or, more recently, the playstation experience thing?
I mean, come on
Why can't people give up hope like I already have?
Funny, I had an insanely hard time with this when I was a kid. When I last did a 100% run in 2006, I got the gem the very first try.
Hardest levels were the rainy one and that one dark tomb level with the bats and shit.
I still struggle with the last part of Toxic Waste. Something about it just just messes with me.
I've never finished the first Crash game because my disk was scratched (it would crash on bonus stages, as well as some later levels), and I was never the best at platformers as a kid.
Is anyone interested in watching some random anon beat it for the first time?
That's the problem with it, the game doesnt have a very good depth perception, and the bouncy barrels have no drop shadows.
And i should've rephrased the my original sentence better: Toxic Waste is only hard if you dont have any Masks. With the golden mask right from the get-go makes the level childs play
>tfw you learn about the speedrun slide in Crash 2
>tfw you learn that you can boost multiple times off a powerslide in CTR
Sunset Vista isint really "hard" like say... Fumbling in the Dark is. It's just really long.
If you look at:
The hardest part of the level is around 3:50, and even then it's only "hard" if you cant get up to the pushing columns.
I haven't read the thread. I was around for the first one.
Say N. Brio. It is like Embryo. Like a new baby.
I think Crash is the spirit of the inevitable death that awaits N. Gin. (Engine. Like robot)
The game is not about Crash, it Is about the villian playing with a dream that they keep putting in denial, even after they die and are reborn.
Say Bandicoot slowly and repetetively!
>not writing fake insights into game manuals before you sell them
I love how ass-like the third one's head is.
was going to show you that I didn't, why would I do that?
>gift my brother a used copy of gran turismo that i bought for myself a while ago
>the previous owner drew something like 30 different penises
>in pen, pushing down on the pen with full force each time no less
>the entire "notes" section was caked in dicks
yeah, fuck you too asshole
First Crash was the best, I loved how challenging it was. I like 2 and warped, and I appreciate there attempts to expand the lore and game mechanics. But felt too easy. Warped was a breeze... No challenge...
I knew I remembered that one from somewhere.
Fuck speed runs, I shouldn't have to invent a challenge for myself, I want the content of the game to do that.
I think all the extra moves Crash has in the sequels kind of spoils it as well, speed runs prove that.
Anyone have that picture where Crash is looking all crazed and trying to catch a butterfly or something like that, in some kind of jungle area. Don't know if it was concept art or fan art or what.
>This fucking song
I...Think I like it.
EVERYTHING WAS GOING SO PERFECTLY TOO
i'm fuckin' dead man
that was too much
The second-to-last design with the tons of clocks was apparently going to be the final one, but it ended up being too complex to render properly.
Wow how do you even fuck up character designs this badly. Mike Tyson Tony wouldn't be so bad if they were trying to sell it as a different character, but sweet christ that chimp faced Aku Aku
>tfw there's so little good tawna art
life is pain.
Crash was created to be a general for Cortex's army.
Koala Kong was created as a worker for the mines to mine materials for the coming invasion.
Pinstripe was created to be Cortex's right hand man.
Ripper Roo was a failed experiment and the first subject Cortex created, Brio makes reference to him in the intro video calling him "A past failure"
Komodo Brothers were created by Brio to be assassins
Tiny was created by Brio in secret to be a last resort weapon against Cortex, since he never liked him. but Tiny was ether tricked or brainwashed by Cortex to work for him once Brio left for good.
Dingodile was created by Cortex and was the first non-bestial hybrid experimentation, the others being some of the random enemies.
Crunch was created to take out Crash. probably an earlier project before he made Crash that he never finished until Wrath of Cortex
How fucking pathetic, go fucking do something with your life.
Drawfags can actually produce content, "writefags" is just another term for pathetic shipping fanfic writers, and fanfic writers are always bad and cancerous, nobody likes them.
Whoa, nigga, why you getting mad at me? All I did was ask if he's still here.
he was a joke character the devs made because of a shitty japanese crash toy with big teeth and eye brows
he didnt have big part until N-Tranced, N. Trance tried to hypnotize Crash, but got Fake Crash instead, and he became a bossfight here he mirrored Crash's moves
It's still there, and in fact really goddamn noticeable if you're playing above native res and aren't using a graphics plugin with a wobbly polygon fix.
Playing above native res generally fucks with the shadows, though, and without a self shadow lots of jumps are way harder than they have any right to be.
I think it was all the stuff in the way. Notice how the draw distance goes to shit as soon as you get to the Bridge levels?
Some of the stuff they did by Warped was really impressive though, namely the Future levels (Though sometimes the city would just "end" after a certain point, it really needed a skybox).
Found it, not very good quality though. Apparently it's concept art for Crash of the Titans
It was fun compiling these, but I'm way too tired to go on. Nighty.
Because the engine wasn't written for multiple light sources.
Here's another one. Kinda neat, certainly better than what they've been coming out with
a crash themed tf2 map someone is working on.
It's in pre-alpha stage. It looks like a reskin of badlands.
It depends on how you define "canon". If canon means "written by the same people", then no. If it simply means "you feel like those events could happen in that universe", then mostly yes. After all, some of the best sequels were written by different people (Silent Hill 3, Jak 3, Ratchet & Clank 2).
And this is Crash you're talking about, so story barely exists.
>tfw gave away my playstation
Emulators are fun but they just aren't the same
>the concept art actually looks pretty decent, if not good
This is what hurts the most.
The first two proper ones are pretty good, probably because the style of the originals was essentially 2D in a 3D plane anyway.
The Fusion ones are complete fucking garbage though. I remember being so excited for them, continually reading this guide for it in a magazine that no longer exists and I forgot what it was called and never got around to getting them and being so crushed that I didn't. (I think the editor Dan Staines still writes for Hyper on occasion)
Then of course I played them on an emulator years later and they were fucking garbage. I actually liked the Spyro one more, to be honest which is usually the opposite with most people.
Back on that game magazine (Total Gamer I think it was called) I really loved it because it was so stupid and had a good sense of humour about itself. They started out I think as GBAMag but then moved on to multi-platform reviews. I just keep thinking of this one panel in particular from a double page spread they'd dedicate each month to stupid shit unrelated to vidya; Pelicans Scary? The answer is yes
They fucking are though have you seen what they can eat? They've been known to eat puppies. PUPPIES.
It's a shame there aren't many vidya mags like it nowadays. Come to think of it I haven't bought a game mag in years since I have the internet for everything now.
But yeah, the first couple 2D Crash games were alright.
how does it handle disappearing shadows at higher resolutions because that shit makes crash almost unplayable in ePSXe or PCSXR
also actually wanting accuracy sucks, crash 2 and 3 have terrible fucking slowdown at times
They're probably mentioned in a guide or manual. They're all named after Sony employees who helped market the game.
Why is this game so good?
I remember it being the last gameboy advanced game I genuinely enjoyed before it was time to usher in the new age of the new gods Nintendo DS
so that's what this image is from
i thought "Oh shit Crash and Spyro in one game together? Oh man"
heard it was for GBA and lost interest.
the game should have been a 3D console game instead. and have Crash play through Spyro style open world levels, and Spyro play through Crash styled corridor levels
>that manly voice on N. Gin.
This is fucking porno music
>That fucking crystal.
Such horseshit. Amazed that I did it about a year ago. That game was rage inducing at times.
that red hair, pink skin, and angry glaring face really scream, Zombie and Igor
You know, I like that they toned down the design from the intial concepts. I mean, Yeah, of COURSE a guy named Cortex is going to have a giant brain, but the one we ended up with is more just a comical silly big head on a tiny body rather than LOOK AT MY HYPER EVOLVED BRAIN
>you have 100%'d crash 1, right anon?
>getting those boxes in Fumbling In The Dark right in the beginning
This thread inspired me to play Crash at work.
silky smooth 60 fps on my android touch screen controls are hell send help
>want to emulate some PS1 games
>can't get any emulators to work and i've tried loads
I know that the emulation wiki thing is useful and thats what i've been using, yet I still can't get it to work. I never had this much trouble with any other emulators...
tfw they cut the two hardest levels from the original game
you can still gameshark yourself into one of them, they're castle themed and I'm pretty sure checkpoints make you crash
Not a retard; I just kept running into so many problems and everytime i'd fix one problem, two more would pop up.
Besides, emulators on phones/tablets are usually easier to setup anyway.
Never had a ps1 but if this reboot is legit then id love to give crash a go. I remember playing it at my cousins house and holy fuck was that a blast
>dat fucking french acting
>dat fucking intro
>dat fucking N.Tropy entrance
Am I the only one who shat pants while watching Crash 3's intro when I was a kid?
Not to quote Tvtropes but it felt like the games started suffering cerebus syndrome when they revealed Uka was the one telling Cortex what to do in the first games. But he's such a ham that I can't hate him.
And it gave Aku purpose beyond taking hits for you so that's cool too.
It was so long ago i don't even remember anything besides some levels. To max% i need to collect every gem and shit, right?
Anyone using DualShock3 on PC? Mine started acting up lately, pressing buttons by itself sometimes and shit like that, tried both bluetooth dongle and cable and it does same shit. Using SCP Server thing, if that matters.
>mfw using Dual Shock on PC
The gray one. I have couple, this one's barely used and is in great condition.
The original has the best durability by far.
I'd use my DS1 or DS2 because after all these years they still work perfectly, but i don't have the means to do that, sadly.
I have really bad luck when it comes to buying controllers and other accessories. In my life i think that out of 50 controllers only 3-4 worked as they should've.
Is there a anime character stronger than Madara Uchiha? And I’m not talking about Edo Tensei Madara Uchiha. I’m talking about Gedou Rinne Tensei Madara Uchiha with the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan and Rinnegan doujutsus (with the rikodou abilities and being capable of both Amateratsu and Tsukuyomi genjutsu), equipped with his Gunbai, a perfect Susano’o, control of the juubi and Gedou Mazou, with Hashirama Senju’s DNA implanted in him so he has mokuton kekkei genkai and can perform yin yang release ninjutsu while being an expert in kenjutsu and taijutsu.
>mfw people in my country called Crash only as "The Fox"
(note I am not native english speaker)
>walking from school
>4th grade, second year of studying english
>thinking Crash stuff
>what´s with that name?
>car goes by
Felt like a freaking genius.
It's what I'm using in conjuction with Dark Souls for example.
You might get fucked up button configuration though, if that happens, find an alternative version of x360ce, easy to google if you ever hit this problem.
Here's where I got to before getting bored of drawing. Hands and feet are pretty lazy. Still needs a lot of work before I'd consider it "done", but I might as well post it anyway before this thread 404s.
i made one a while back after 100%ing crash 1
i meant to fill it with tawna but there is SO LITTLE ART
not much of coco too outside of what nitro's made over the past DECADE GOD DAMN MAN
The various pictures I used for references had her with blue eyeshadow, or at least that's what I assume it was meant to be.
Also half of them had pink eyes and the other half had orange, personally I prefer orange.
It fits Mike Tyson, not a Tasmanian Tiger on super steroids.
No, just Nitro. Forgot what other names the guy goes by.
NT's stuff always rubs me the wrong way because of how fucking weird it gets and I don't think they did anything Crash related ever.
>Everyone recommends Twinsanity to me and says that it's one of the only good games to come out of the "new era" of Crash
>Start it up for the first time
>Have to do some kind of weird level where Crash and Cortex are rolling around beating the shit out of each other
>Reach a "Kill all enemies to advance" room
>Back to the hub world type place
>Do a long jump
>I phase through the floor and die
If this is the best I don't want to see the worst
I like Boulder Dash.
One time downloaded that song to my smartphone, hooked it up to CD player speaker system put bass to the max and volume high. Man, it sounded awesome thought bit ridiculous with all that bass.
>Mind Over Mutant
>noticed that several voice actors in it were in current Cartoonnetwork cartoons at the time
>game wasn't successful for obvious reasons
Anyone else think that if Mind Over Mutant was a hit then we would have gotten a Crash cartoon on CN? A man can dream...
It is. There are other secret levels and there are some in Crash 2 like that Polar level where you jump over the ice platforms at the end and get to the final one and it warps you to the secret room and you can see the island from Crash 1. That shit was the comfiest.
>Someone is remaking Crash Bash HD in unity with online
he would wreck shit and WRYYYYY-ing all day erryday
That was quite informative anon. I can still remember how disappointed I was in Spyro 4 and Nitro Kart.
Seeing the whole history, what could have been, what was rushed. Hell that little tibit of Brio in the Clash was hilarious
>mfw I had the chance to buy these Warped figures back in the day but missed it and now they're like fucking gold dust
I hear they fall to pieces anyway but still
I was up til fucking 5.30am cos of these threads
As someone who owned and played with them in my youth, I can attest they fall to pieces.
But they're so fucking cool and detailed for off the shelf action figures. I still have an Aku Aku mask firmly attached to my computer case. Everything else went missing years and years ago.
Which one, /v/?
