It's because fictional characters are objectified sexist creations made by patriarchal men who use them as dolls and force them into positions, instead of them having free will and liberation. A female character is ultimately always sexist, because they're creating a female object. More leeway is given if it's a female artist, but only if the character they make is "strong", otherwise that artist has internalized misogyny.

For example, Kojima -IS- a disgusting sexist misogynist for making a fictional portrayal of a (possibly) sexual female, period, end of story, as are all other male creators creating depictions of female characters. But the women are righteous and brave for cosplaying as those sexist characters, while the men are bad for making a character they'd want to cosplay in the first place. There are many games which are made where women have been central to the creation of the game, or are depicted well. Many more than there were before. There are many high quality games in this industry which feature well written female characters. Many more than before.
Now, granted, there are comparatively fewer strong female characters than male ones. By strong, I mean well written in this case. There is quite a large gap in that regard.
But it's the developers choices to make whatever kinds of characters they see fit.

We, as an American society approving of free speech, have to respect that. We can certainly express interest in seeing these different kinds of characters. But you can't brow beat people and expect change out of hatred. Any "change" you effect will be artificial in nature and susceptible to reactionary movements like /pol/.
This is why people like Anthony Burch, who hamfistedly write gay/trans characters, end up writing very poor ones. Because you can't hamfistedly write diversity into a story for the sake of diversity.
