Normal. Hard may be too hard right at the beginning of your first game, and Nightmare... well, let's just say there are 2 bosses in Ys I that will have you crying tears of blood if you choose Nightmare. Leave it for a 2nd or 3rd playthrough.

Start with Oath instead, on normal or nightmare.

I gave up on Ys I and II because I found the bump combat to be incredibly shitty. Played Oath on Nightmare and never looked back. What a fantastic game.

Ys 1 is really rough. Ys 2 slightly less so but neither of them aged well. Oath and Origin are two outstanding games. Ys 7 is very good. Memories of Celceta is the only worthwhile game on the Vita.

Speaking of the villains in MoC, did anyone find Gadis to be the hardest fight in the game because the game ran so slow? I can't do jack shit to him on Nightmare because the game runs at 10 FPS, sometimes lower, for half the fight, and rarely hits 30 even if it's not as low.

Nothing for the first couple of hours, until everything starts repeating constantly. Then all the bosses just start to feel like you're going through the motions. Oh look he's doing the faggy attack I can't hit him during. let's just dodge for a while okay we can fight again now and then you just reach a point where you can't imagine any of the dozen or so bosses you've fought so far are any fun. And then you try online coop to test the theory and people who have grinded far far more than you one shot the bosses you could conceivably fight so you go offline and your hypothesis remains unbroken.

Too many quests where all you do is punch cats too.

If you can get it cheap and maybe you like the awful MonHun genre then you can probably disregard my complaints but I found it made fighting giant monsters with hundreds of spells to pick from so damned boring that it was an achievement.

Nightmare. It's actually pretty easy. Grind each area until you've completed the compendium and make sure you've got the best equipment (if you're having trouble with bosses or enemies this is usually the problem).

Ok anons, so I want to try Dawn of Ys on the PC Engine.
How the fuck do I make those emulators work? I don't know if it comes from my Ys iso or from the emulators, but every single one I've tried simply don't want to boot the game.
Ys IV is an iso file and those retarded emulators don't want to run it, they want .pce or .hes files.
Please help.

I've been playing MoC and just got to the reveal of Bami.

What's shitty about the game why it doesn't seem to be well liked here? Does it drag on and shit itself later on?because so far it's fun as hell to pop in, beat up some monsters to Jrock and quit after about half an hour or an hour

I don't know, I personally like it but it's probably my less favorite Ys (it remains a pretty good game). The artstyle is kinda bad compared to what we had before, the game itself it pretty easy (that fact is honestly frustrating, and I'm not even a tryhard), the music is pretty underwhelming by Ys standard (even if some tracks are great). Also, some "scenario" parts are long and annoying.
People also don't like the party system, which is honestly ok even if allies are sometimes fucking stupid.
One of my favorite recent games, but pretty meh compared to the average Ys.

IIRC, there was some official manual or some stuff like that, coming with Ys I&II: it says that Adol dies at 61, after having tried to reach North Pole (and he failed). In fact, he didn't die during adventuring, he spent his old days at some village probably ith his waifu Feena.

Why didn't you do THE CLAW? It even has some funny stuff at the end, and THE CLAW's story is the canon one (even if it doesn't really matter). The character is also fun to play.

Doing bosses with the fire skill is boring, yes.
But honestly, I had a lot of fun using Thunder skill and using the invincibility, and it's way quicker.
Also, I didn't find Origin boring/miserable outside of bosses (maybe some talking parts, but whatever), I guess it's a matter of taste.
