Hopefully this will be the WH40K game everybody deserve-...
Fuck this game and fuck turn based, turn based A SHIT. Would not even day 1 pirate
You want a big 40k game?
While not a game itself, the 40k mod for Distant Worlds has a great deal of content in terms of massive battles and shit. It's bretty gud, but only if you like 4x/GS kind of games.
But turn-based vidya is fun.
real time is my shit and its fucking dead currently,
its suffering to both an angel and devil
>hating on turn based WH40K
Though i agree we have a lack of decent new RTS's recently. Let's hope Gearbox doesn't fuck up HOMEWORLD too much, it's really the only strategy worth waiting for now.
>/v/ suddenly hates turn based games
>the most based kind of based
>in both strategy games and rpgs alike
About fucking time. Screw RTS, 40K wasn't meant for that. I love how much turn-based stuff we've been getting lately. Turn-based RPGs are now in vogue again, and even strategy games have been back to being strategic since ASSFAGGOTS killed the RTS and XCOM showed up and reminded the mainstream that "real-time doesn't make turn-based obsolete, and in fact it's still better, look how good this shit is".
But of course, turn-based strategy has never been dead, not for a moment. Anybody who gives a damn about strategy games and 40K and doesn't like turn-based isn't a strategy gamer and they're not much of a 40K fan either. So you have quick thinking and twitch skills. That's fine, I love my action games, but that shit ain't real strategy, it's not real 40K. Unless you're pondering turns for a minute or more and looking through menus, you're not strategizing, you're thinking fast and acting faster when it should be about thinking hard and acting with assurance.
>/v/ is one per-
You know what? Fuck this.
yes op is the speaker of the great hivemind of /v/
no fuck op and fuck you
Because that's how combat works, sides just politely take turns letting the enemy blast the shit out of them and never have to strategize on the fly. If you can't strategize in real time you don't know strategy.
b...but muh dawwn of war :(
Seriously though. I have a friend who's a huge Warhammer 40K fan. I always had an interest in it, but never had the friends, the money, or the time. He never played the tabletop game either, though he did collect and paint countless miniatures. He played the Dawn of War series exclusively, read all the novels, and played Space Marine.
There is an entire generation of Warhammer 40K fans who have never associated the series with turn-based gameplay. Also, it became obvious at some point that he was unfamiliar with Warhammer not-40K. I asked him if he had any Warhammer stuff and he said "Umm... you think?". I explained "no, I mean the original Warhammer" (at the time, I didn't realize it was also called "Warhammer Fantasy" now), and when I eventually convinced him 40K wasn't the original Warhammer, he said it was gay.
I suppose chess takes no strategy then.
If anything turn based with an infinite time limit is more strategic than real time, because you don't have to rely on speed or skill, just pure strategy.
why wargames look like lowbudget shit nowadays? panzer general looked better than any modern wargame(except for maybe UoC), it even had cutscenes for battles.
>want true Warhammer game
>don't want turn-based
>Hating turn based
>Wanting a 4oK game that isn't turn based while 40K is
>Wont even pirate
>Thinks himself as a Warhammer fan anyway
>Because that's how combat works, sides just politely take turns letting the enemy blast the shit out of them and never have to strategize on the fly.
No, you're right on this one. Since we're including realism though, have you seen the guns these guys carry around? Too big, it's unreasonable. And HOW do they even move in that armor? You know what, that has to go too. While we're at it, space travel depiction is a little far-fetched and is more fantasy based than scientific in the W40k universe, so it should all take place on Earth. Okay, here's your game.
College students learning Unity and Flash instead of C++ and an understanding of visual design and color theory. Lots of pretty shadows and colors everywhere, without much regard for information at a glance, speed of gameplay, use of colors that blend or distract, and just use whatever font was already selected because only autists care, right?
they better include some grargants for the orks
sure, you can just buy a shit ton of boyz and invade the entire board since they are only worth 6pts per model
it's largely believed that entire ork race is made up of psykers, which basically means that whatever they believe in comes true, so if they believe something will work then it will not break down
I mean in real life on the tabletop
I like 40k the games the lore and everything
but i cant see myself going into the shop spending all my cash on the figures
already have a expensive hobby called video games
>"space-based ship made of guns"
they've pretty much got that covered already
This makes me wish I had the money to get back into 40K
an ork space ship rams into your friends retribution class space ship
what do you do?
>It's main weapons would explode the ship
>Physics applying to Ork weaponry
i think it's pretty fast to build them considering that the forge worlds got a work force of a couple billions
>not a single in-game image
>no updates since June
>only sort of update from the dev was them shilling for another GW game
I get the feeling this game is having some rough development but I pray I'm wrong since W40K mixed with KF sounds amazing.
>all these huge fucking sizes
fucking why? i enjoy seeing big ships of doom and all that but the scale of these are just fucking huge
well they are a bunch of tree huggers after all
orks never stop growing, but that chart shows the average size of an ork boyz
I beg to differ, im a poor fag and i played for years with flat cardboard circles and squares to play both 40k and fantasy.
I had a weeklong game against my brother one time using 20k point armies of tyranids vs imperial guard and it was the most fun i ever had playing 40k. No way am i wasting the money required to make though armies legitimately.
Only time that wouldnt fly is tournaments or in-store, both of which are the most cancerous and unfun places to play any kind of warhammer.
lol them wheels
like they would support that weight when landing
ok i think i get it now with orkz just insane machines that only a ork could build
like scrapeheap challenge it just works
a bit of a joke without being to over the top
maybe an inch or two but other than that it's pretty accurate
>wanting to get back into 40k.
Reminder that THIS is the current state of 40k.
>this is the current state of w40k
no one really likes the yiff marines
i did like the dawn of war and i do like a good rts
but gw need to make a good turn based game
how long has it been since the last one?
space hulk is ok but it just putting terminators on overwatch down corridor's
talisman is ok i kinda remember the board game but card games are not really my thing
and i dont know why they are wasting there time on another mmo when the last one failed
about bloody time gw. . . good old gw i knew you wouldnt let me down
You can both do better than that.
and in this case i wouldnt mind paying
i do hate dlc but its the market now
and buying a dlc for a army would be cheaper then buying figures for the tabletop
plus fluff dlc differnt colour scheme's for differnt faction's
Reminder that THIS was the state of 40k at some point
Your next words. Chose them with exceptional care.
Warhammer Fantasy Battle came first, yes, and both are rather expensive yet fun hobbies to get into. If you're still interested, get Chaos Daemons since I heard they're viable for both games and maganetize the feets so you can change out between Fantasy and 40K so it'll lower the cost of getting two armies for two different games.
This series looks mary sue as fuck.
Is it specifically designed for those kids on the playground as kids who were always like "NU UH MINE IS BIGGER AND MY SHIELDS ARE STRONGER AND MY LASER GOES THROUGH ALL YOUR SHIELDS!!!"
Serisouly though, I've never known much about 40K but it looks autistic as fuck.
Gotta put the hamster-wheel powered tech somewhere.
But it is mary sue.
I've just opened up a few wikipedia pages and I'm confused as to why everything in this universe is screaming at me "EVERYTING SO POWERFUL AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Like this emperor dude for example.
He's basically a faggot machine that has "thousands of sacrifices a day" which I can only imagine is him getting his necrotic dick sucked a thousand times a day so his consant orgasms can "combat the warp" or whatever that shit is.
Oh and warp travel is like "OH HURR 30 million of our gaiuse died in dis jump such dark, so edgy but it's our life ahhhhh so hardcore"
What the fuck is this series even about? did it's authors have some parental issues growing up or were they forced to listed to death metal growing up?
>I'm always stunned by how big everything is
you haven't seen big yet
no you cant
not considered canon anymore
squat's are real
han shot 1st
9/11 was a inside job
you cant silence the voice of the little man
>But it is mary sue.
Stop, stop, I'm not arguing against your point, I'm telling you the phrase "Mary Sue" does not describe what you're describing.
So please, stop using that tumblr phrase, ok?
>There will never be an AAA Mass Effect style Warhammer game
>You will never get to immerse yourself in the Warhammer universe like that
>You will never get to choose between non-canon ME pandering heresy like accepting a hot Farseer into your squad and sexing her (at the expense of killing an inquisitor squad mate) and other aliens, and canon human-only squad team with a qt but stern Sister of Battle and bro inquisitor squad mate
>And in the second game choosing between non canon corruption meter and canon faithful to the imperium
>And the third game helping the illuminati hunt down all children of the emperor, advancing the story when the dark crusade reaches Terra and reaching the golden throne to witness Abaddon about to strike his corpse right when all of His children are executed to reincarnate him for a movie ending (Magnus the Red was the boss fight)
>Or alternatively RTS based on supreme commander mechanics and scale set in Warhammer universe with buffed up heroes
W-why go on
yes, have a flying robot spider
>The campaign system is the same as Panzer Corps but the battles are quite different. You have a core force you customise with points to upgrade, repair, recruit etc. There are around 230 units to choose from on the Imperial side so force customisation is a huge part of the game.
>all of that
>not wanting an ace combat styled gorkamorka game
Why are you guys defending something that is the epitome of autism?
It's a stupid series that has gone meta on itself that it doesn't even know what is canon and not canon anymore.
I'm sure at some point back when I was a kid the tabletop game was cool and the lore or whatever was awesome kind of like how Sonic back in my teen years was alright as it was first coming out on the genesis but at some point in the 2000's you autistic little kiddies decided to take something simple and for children and turn it into this circlejerk of Overpowerednes for the sake of either 1. being funny but failing to do so or 2. trying to out edge the other edgemasters.
What is twitch
see previous statements.
Very powerful, don't let the crude look fool you. These things have enough firepower to level metropolitan cities several times over, let alone fortresses. Couple that with being large enough on the inside to house a sizable Waaagh! and you got yourself a walking command center.
Because setting wise, this is the far future where entire planets are battlefields, some still being contested by different factions. When you're going against something as big as say an entire full scale Waaagh! or a Tyranid Hive Fleet, you need really, really big guns and vehicles that can stand up to it when digging in with millions of Imperial Guardsmen or having the backing of a Space Marine chapter isn't enough.
>It's a stupid series that has gone meta on itself that it doesn't even know what is canon and not canon anymore.
It's been that way since the beginning. In the 6th edition rule book they even poke fun at their own retcons of the squats being destroyed.
>Why are you guys defending something that is the epitome of autism?
I'm not defending anything.
I'm telling you what you're pointing out isn't reffered to as "Mary Sue". That is not what that phrase mean, you can't use it in this context just because those are the only words you know when it comes to criticism of fiction.
I told you nicely twice already. I think you might be retarded.
It's supposed to be satire on grimdark settings that take themselves too seriously. The problem is that it seems to have forgotten that and the only satire in it is with the best race you can play
Okay whatever kid. lol I'll stop using that phrase if it'll make your morning better.
Would you like some coco puffs and morning cartoons too while you sit on the couch in your onesie?
You're the one who read "a couple wikipedia pages" and now you can lecture on the entire arc of the fiction?
You're either trolling or retarded. And you're not doing either well.
Your first idea sounds like a godawful piece of shit, though it sounds like you just want a rogue trader game, which mitebcool, just not it being like ME. Your second idea however has me intrigued.
Play tabletop Kill Team if you can't invest more than 1000+ pts in models. Doesn't require alot of models to play since it's supposed to be small scale skirmishes and can be pretty intense, if not more than going full scale.
A video game based on Gorkamorka was also being developed for Windows and the Dreamcast, but was scrapped shortly before the latter system was discontinued. A very buggy demo of the Windows version is available online.
>a game that is based on a turn based game is turn based
>there will never be an isometric inquisitor rpg set in a decadent hive city
>there will never be a squad based, deathwatch fps styled off republic commando
>there will never be a gta clone set in commoragh
>there will never be a mechanicum arpg where you descend multiple floors into the depths of mars reclaiming lost technology diablo style
>there will never be a feral ork sim game where you control a tribe of feral orks, establish a society on the outskirts of some technologically superior civilization and gradually evolve, conquer, expand and loot your way off planet
>there will never an all star brawler featuring all the notable characters from the setting
>there will never be an ork kart
Everlasting glory to the Plague Lord
I just realize how badly I want something like that.
And it will NEVER EVER happen.
I don't know- if Mordheim does well, a Necromunda/Gorkamorka game can't be far behind, I should hope. Mind you, hope IS the first step on the road to disappointment though.
At least, if you do not revere the Architect of Fate.
Okay I'm starting to get it now. At first I thought it was serious with itself. but then again I didn't pay much attention to it back when it first came out. I was like 7 years old anyway the first time it showed up in a game shop.
What are you two implying? And why call me names? Why can't you use valid points to convince me that this series or universe or whatever you want to call it is in fact worth my time. Can you do that instead of the name calling?
Yeah, while 'modern' 40K is somewhat more serious, the majority of fluff is still the setting taking the piss out of itself. For example, the destructive Ork Warlord of Armageddon, Mag Uruk Thraka is based on
Margaret Thatcher. The rest of the setting is also deliberately taken to extremes of stupid grimdark grim darkness because hell, it's fucking cool.
>Why can't you use valid points to convince me that this series or universe or whatever you want to call it is in fact worth my time
We don't give a shit about you.
We told you our opinion on the serie, and the lore is very easily found on the web, we're not gonna babysit you.
>Capture strategic points around the map not unlike mass deposits
>Build/order your own power plants
>Spam barracks and pads construction that each can then automatically pump out units
>Each unit is made of multiple soldiers, 4 space marines, a dozen IGs, or several orks and eldar
>Hundreds of units or thousands of soldiers and dozens of vehicles on each side ordered to group in the middle of the battlefield or to march straight to the enemy's base
>Despite army's scale hero is critical to success and performance, designed to serve either as direct assault tank, fragile rear support buffer or hybrid
>Gimmick disadvantages if they die
>Space Marine captain can jetpack into the fight, works well hunting down and engaging enemy heroes or can smash armies. Just by force of his hammer dozens of enemy soldiers get thrown away
>A lot of damage reduction and can call for a devastating orbital barrage
>No real disadvanage if he dies but you must extract the gene seed from his corpse in order to respawn a new capatin
>Military governor is fragile and works from the rear. Has a ton of passive bonuses for IG soldiers and can call for artillery barrage
>Upon death a new one will automatically be shipped from orbital HQ but until then all IG soldiers are demoralized and broken
>Ork warboss is a hybrid wrecking ball with WAAAGH passive buffs
>Upon death ork units are unresponsive and start killing each other except for a third of the army for about 20 seconds until a new warboss spawns from one of the units
>Scripted campaign for 4 initial races
>Conquer the world mode and scripted campaign for follow up races in expansions
Yeah, I can see how it wouldn't apply, especially if you want happy endings (40K isn't about how much you win, but how well you lose). Even so though, I think it's great if you're in the mood for glorious last stands, grim soldiers marching knowingly to their deaths, and the sheer massive scale of all the explosions.
I just want a MMO with very little loading times (sorta like WoW, if I recall corrctly), with each faction in a corner and the center being a gigantic battlefield where everyone are shooting everything. With mechas, psykers, orbital strike and all that.
Aside from Chess, I've never played any strategy TB games. And my RTS record consist only of Company of Heroes and Dawn of War (Which are pretty much the same game, although it's great).
This actually seems interesting and may be good since it will be a new type of game for me and perhaps something close to the tabletop which I have no intention of getting into.
>What are they teaching you in school these days?
Name calling, just like in my fathers time, just like in his fathers time, and so on right back to when the first cavemen called each other dickheads.
>wants this to be faithful to wh40k
>hates that its turnbased
Everyone in this thread is just discussing what kind of gameplay they'd like to see in a W40K game and the only thing I want is an Ork Kart racing game
You can customise the Karts with lots of guns and depending on how you paint your vehicle, it could either go faster or do more damage
Fuck off right now before I bitch slap your face twice
The answer is : turn every character into Ork.
Enable friendly fire.
Tell your players they can do whatever the fuck they want, kill every NPC they want, form factions, or just runs around shooting stuffs.
There you go, GOTYAY.
Now, now, be nice- maybe he's just really new to this whole 40K thing. I know when I first got into it, I was a bit nonplussed by how crazy things were at first.
Try going to /tg/ and asking about 40K- the board's practically /40K/ by now, and they'll have any answers you need.
>You can customise the Karts with lots of guns and depending on how you paint your vehicle, it could either go faster or do more damage
>Do wez make it yelow bos? NO YOU GRUT WEZ MAKE IT RED
That's what it boils down to
>Master of Orion
>Master of Magic
>Age of Wonders
Fuck off, retard.
I'd just make Spess muhreens an elite thing for the IG. You unlock them if you do wel enough or capture certain points or something. Less of a reach to make IG similar to orkz in my opinion.
They're one in the same. In high school back in 97' the gothic kids were the ones who sat in the corner of the commons that had all the florescent light bulbs out and it also happened to be next to the closest bathroom in between my classes.
They would just stare at me as I went into "their bathroom" and I think one of the fat chicks with all the chains on her jeans tried to put a hex on me once. They would also write slam and sad poetry and pretend like their lives were the most horrible thing ever.
It was hilarious to see some of them being picked up by their mothers or fathers who all looked like upstanding people that took care of their kids and paid attention to them.
Is that basically what the "edgy kids" are today?
But I lost all my patience with people like him.
Why can't they just use their brains? Why?
It infuriates me, because every human being(as long as not born retarded) is capable of rational thinking(I would say except for women but I don't want to see fedora-guy-pics).
Your friends a shit.
I got into the tabletop years ago and one by one, I slowly dragged my friends in. Now I run a chaos and small ork army on the side, my wife runs nids and they all run an assortment of armies (one even tried to go DA, that poor poor bastard)
I just havnt read 6th ed. because I liked 5th and I hate matt ward.
>being this uncultured
oh that explains the tops of them.
But why the huge cow catchers on the front? I still can't shake it from my mind that these look like giant trains.
Serisouly just add giant space wheels on the bottom and that's what you'll get.
I'm ready for this work week to be over.
>"lets make it look like a church".
couldn't be more true
did you just confuse Gothic with goths?
It's not meant to last if GW ever moves to another medium. They'll have to be more realistic and taken down a notch in the "fabulous meter" in the same manner comic books were, once in animated series, and again in the cinema and realistic TV series.
Those massive prows are so the Imperial ship can survive ramming the enemy. Imperial doctrine also advises charging forward, soaking up fire with the armoured prow, before unleashing massive broadsides in the middle of the enemy fleet.
Remember: "Our prows are armoured because our sterns never face the enemy!"
The biggest problem with 5th was the constant one-upmanship that seemed to plague the codexes. Each army that came out was far and away better than the previous army released. There were only a couple of exceptions.
>Not playing Dominions 4 or Distant Worlds with Warhammer mods
Why is Dominions so fucking good?
>Someone actually put that on their car
I can't decide if it's cool or really pathetic.
At least there's no questioning that person's loyalty to the Emperor.
yeah I did. I'm a dumb. You put the word along side edgy and I didn't read my first post so I got confused.
I guess that makes sense. I thought however, that most of the space battles (according to the wikipedia page) take place using massive broadsides with their guns that are literally the size of a 50 story building.
well i guess this guy just confirmed that >>273143128
why should it be pathetic?
That man has a hobby and a passion and he's not unsure about it, he's proud of it. He does not care what heathens think he just does what he wants, and he wants to let everybody know that he fucking loves 40K.
Imperial navy strategy is a one or more of "shoot torpedoes the size of buildings at the enemy", "launch bombers to attack the enemy" and "drive at the enemy and get into close broadside range, especially if you can get into their rear arc."
>Why should it be pathetic
Because he's worshiping a corpse in a chair
But in all seriousness, I've seen far worse things on people's cars.
>go to highschool
>see goth kids in their corner, reciting some war song
>they sneer at me through their long mustaches and lime spiked hair
>one menacingly shakes his fist as I approach, making the numerous imitation torcs he's wearing jingle like bells
>he calls me an ergi and threatens to take my skull for Hermóðr
>want to do something but don't have my cohort with me
Who owns the rights then?
Fuck it, Imma make Malal themed army anyway, it's not like the renegade chaos gods are new, if someone spergs over it, I'll just call it chaos undivided.
>glorious last stands, grim soldiers marching knowingly to their deaths, and the sheer massive scale of all the explosions.
That's why I like 40K, and the shit that's like "even in death we serve". I like how extreme it needs to be.
here is game manual
and here are some new weapon animation vids
>faggot whining a 40k game is turn based
>this faggot doesn't realize the actual Warhammer 40,000 game that all of the videogames are based off of, is turn based
Literally cancer. You filthy fucking cancerous heathens shouldn't be allowed to play 40k.
>Who owns the rights then?
No one knows, that's why he was dropped. There was a legal grey area over whether the writers owned it or whether GW owned it, so GW just said "fuck it" and dropped Malal. With the Sons of Malice making an appearance in newer works GW has hinted to the whole thing, but I don't know if they've ever changed their official stance on the 5th God.
Double headed eagles are common heraldry in Europe, dates back to the Romans.
>every eagle is from the third reich
>putting words in my mouth
I'm just pointing out this eagle on this car looks exactly like the nazi eagle and the vast majority of people will identify it as such. Time to stop being autist.
That picture gave me feels more than it should have.
