There's actually a lot of tricks there but it's not full 3D as polygons aren't really involved. It's pretty much doom but they added a lot of facings and used sprites of 3D models to make you think it''s 3D. Still, fucking impressive, by far the best looking game I've seen that uses such tricks.

If I were Nintendo or some other high profile game developer I'd hire the programmers of that game. Some absolutely insane optimization must've gone into this. That's the kind of talent you can't miss.

That's what they did with the guys who made Star Fox. They made a fully 3D game on the NES or GB (I'm not sure) and Nintendo hired them to make Star Fox.

I did. There's lots of glitches in it that are normal for raycasted engines. This leads me to believe that it's not 3D at all but instead an incredibly complex raycasted engine. Which is even more impressive than fucking 3D!
