Ok let's discuss why the world needs a new cyberpunk game and why we are tired of swords, shields and any other fucking middle ages stuff.
I wanna see sexxybots everywhere!
>tfw no news on the next Deus Ex in forever
>tfw no news on 2077 in forever
>tfw when those GITS movies were mostly mediocre
>tfw Remember Me should have been called Wasted Potential: The Game
Life is suffering.
Source? That press release thing didn't mention 3 games and Universe was the name of the multimedia project (books, comics, etc) not any game.
>tfw when those GITS movies were mostly mediocre
What the fuck are you talking about?
All i want is a good cyberpunk noir. Why is so hard
I want a cyberpunk game where I can play as someone like the Major.
I just want to play as the Major
Well it's ok, but why it has to be an online shooter?
Have you tried Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall?
What if pic related was a GITS game?
EYE had a lot of mechanics that were spot on for a GITS type game. The cloaking, vision modes, upgrading your cyber brain/limbs/systems, hacking other people, targeting systems and stuff. Man it was cool.
However, the game had too much combat. There weren't enough ways to interact with the world or engage with the story besides shooting tons of Metastreum monsters or dudes.
Clearly we have two different faction on /v/
>One wants Noir Cyberpunk games
>The other wants Cyberpunk Fps
I'm ok with both but give us something
The more I think about it the more I want a noir with little combat. Something like Deus Ex where you should be avoiding most combat.
I kind of want Deus Ex but with the Major now.
technically cod is a cyperpunk fps, as is half life and all of the mods made for it. Hard Reset exists too
when it comes to noir cyberpunk the closest are probably the various cyberpunk mods for fallout 3 and new vegas
I just joined this thread when someone posted the trailer to the new GITS game.
NeoTokyo is flawed as hell. It really quickly starts to just feel like a CS game in disguise in terms of movement and theres very little that can go wrong with either a sniper or shotgun, and unlocking that just cements winning team's positions. There's FUCK ALL tactical options besides map awareness since leaning in a source mod is horrible and difficult to use let alone effectively (when you can reliably headshot even unscoped hiding the body isn't helping).
It really needs a better engine, more tactical options, preferably remove the Light/Medium/Heavy classes and simply make them loadout options, more decent maps (why people vote for train? It's a fucking SFM asset) and preferably integrate the music into the fucking game instead of requiring a SFM plugin that can't do the job perfectly
>Imagine a Stealth-noir game
>"Fuck this shit"
There is nothing on this planet that I want more than a Blame! video game directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki.
The minimalist narrative fits his style so well.
I also want Blame! expunged from my memory so I can read it again.
He's talking about Arise. He meant to say OVA, but we're on /v/ not /a/ so people think they're movies.
He's right though. They were casual shit when compared to previous entries in the series.
Is Soul Hackers cyberpunk? Thinking of buying it to complement DeSu and SMT IV. Also the intro is hella good.
>tfw no 80s' styled Cyberpunk game
I want neon lights, not!Ferrari cars, blocky techy things, virtual grids, cyberspace, hard-boiled cops, razor-girls and slums.
Watch Strange days (1995) is a good cyberpunk noir
This is why I have a love/hate relationship with Deus Ex: HR
>implying cyberpunk swords aren't the best swords
>it's so similar to SMT IV and P4G it's not that essential
Eh? It's first person and has different kind of mechanics like demons not leveling up with you, magnetite and sword fusion.
I like you.
80s was the golden age for cyberpunk animation
It seems pedantic when you spell it out, but there's more to cyberpunk than just the cool cyborg tech and shit.
What a lot of people really love is the social element, and the effects the tech has on the world at large. Hence the 'punk'.
If this guy was free from the Big Boss curse, all this would be reality
>mfw playing through Policenauts for the first time
>all of that meticulously detailed info about shit in the world
>all of that literal Lethal Weapon: Cyberpunk Edition
I get depressed thinking about what could've been and what STILL CAN BE if it weren't for that ball and chain Konami has around his ankle.
or maybe he's just fucking lazy, i dunno
You know their is a big military spending push on completely autonomous drones and armored vehicles.. that kill when they want..
also man sized robots
they future is tomorrow and its probably gonna suck.. also there's a robotic sex industry coming
>You know their is a big military spending push on completely autonomous drones and armored vehicles
Source? I really can't see them all too interested in stuff that hasn't a human operator to make decisions.
Break his balls on Twitter. He might answer
Hey guys, see what i found.
Can Ridley scott ruin Blade runner?
Yes, but i still have
>The Original cut
>The Final Cut (not the Pink Floyd Album)
If the New BR sucks I can still watch all these
I hope it won'tsuck
It would be if it was centered around technology and and its bad influence. But it's not. It's portraying influence of society over human being.
Study cyberpunk more.
Manie-Manie: Meikyuu Monogatari aka Neotokyo. Running man episode.
most smt games are cyberpunk, at least in atmosphere. that includes all mainline games except 3. SMT iv has the best cyberpunk atmosphere, as it is mostly set in an underground tokyo full of demons, the music is also cyberpunk
It could never work, but I want it so much too anon.
>Map on an unfathomable scale with secrets everywhere
>Players who don't give it enough time think it's just a walking simulator
>Using the GBE to blow massive holes out of the terrain that just stay there
>Having to make sure you have space to handle the GBE's recoil when firing
>Taking on silicon monstrosities
My dick would be so hard
Are you trying to impersonate me?
I would dream of major too.
Thanks for reminding me of what i have on my hdd. Looks like still have more stuff to watch/read.
Computer architecture is making so many advances Just reading they found a new way to store electric charges on clusters of molecules,,
not quantum yet.. just really really small
also Dupont or someone found out how to turn simple benzene to carbon carbon nanochains.. aka diamond nano sized strings
>Players who don't give it enough time think it's just a walking simulator
In a Cyberpunk world...
The most cyberpunk-ish thing we have right now. No joke
man, as much as I love Blame!, it would never work as a game. the scale things happen on is both too small and too big to work a game around. people reacting at nano-second speeds in combat and then spending twelve years on an elevator is not something you can work into a fun game.
80s anime will never come back ;_;
Yes but No, I feel yes the nano-second combat is impossible, and yes you can't put 12 years of elevator or walking across the diameter of jupiter into a game realistically, but the manga never really tries to make it feel like you heavily experienced that spread of time, the impact comes from it telling you such a huge period has gone by and yet the journey carries on. I think with clever cinematography and some good thought into atmosphere it could work out pretty well in a video game. Not perfect, but pretty well, but hey, this is just how I think of it.
Cyberpunk is my favourite setting but I think that has a lot to do with how relatively under-utilized it is. High fantasy settings seem generic because everyone and their indie-dev mother cranks games out in that setting. As much as I mourn the Final Fantasy series' current boring character art direction, their combination of a high-fantasy setting with contemporary architecture is at least new and impressive.
Cyberpunk still seems interesting and different.
>yfw GITS will never look that good again
>generic anime highschooler action drama
Polarization doesnt allow it too zoom. Scientist apparently took in consideration that one would like to see zoom image all the time so they added this filter. There are articles about those lenses. Search for them.
We are slowly losing ourselves in cyberpunk world, but we still don't have many cyberpunk games? Come on Kojima
It's a low-budget shooter with crysis-like powers and a convoluted-existential-shit 'story'. If you don't like moving around with crysis abilities and the combat in general, all it has left is (great) atmosphere.
You may want to ask around for some infographics if you dont want to suck.
I fucking love the liquid animations in old Production IG movies. The animation in general is always really high quality, but they just hit it out of the fucking park with stuff like water and blood.
Nintendo won't give it to you
If you arent tired of Shields then the OP wasnt directed at you
I'm tired of shields. Shields that are physical and held along side a sword anyway.
I fucking need more cybp vidya
But I like swords and stuff.
So I'll write a little about it.
I like Katanas in cyberpunk. I liked the sword fights in Neuromancer and I think it's appropriate to the setting to have Gilletes. I really want to play one in CP 2077.
That said, can Rapiers or other "out of place" weapons also fit in cyberpunk?
Nothing aganist Swords. Just i'm tired of dragon and witches
Shadowrun, son. Street samurai are best samurai.
Lithium Flower > I can't be cool=Date of Rebirth =Run rabbit Junk=Where does the ocean go. > Silent forest
>tfw i was the gm for our shadowrun game
>we took a couple weeks break and i couldnt get back into my work ethic so it ended up canceled
>finally get to play PnP Shadowrun
>DM tells that he doesn't feel like running a game after the first session
>no biggie, I still have SR game on a forum, what could go wrong?
>forum's DM disappears
cyberpunk can actually explore real world social problems with a futuristic perspective, high-fantasy is forever stuck on mahh-honor which is a glorified romantic ideal of life.
Funnily a cyberpunk game is the best fit for 3d, but we get the least of it.
So why a damn blacklight clone of Gits and not something more co-op mission based with some unique hacking and stealth mechanics and a rip off Neotokyo ost I wonder?
Can I get the names if so?
There is a game that gives off a strong BLAME! vibe. It's called NaissanceE and pure indie hipster shit. No combat, no story, no characters but it really captures this lost-in-a-huge-machine and endless-city feeling.
I have not
If the animations are as sexy as shown in that webm I'm on it right now
SAC and 2nd Gig are both really good. Maybe not as visually impressive as the original movie, but still a really great series.
Arise is sort of divisive, but I haven't seen it all the way through myself, so I couldn't tell you from personal experience.
Latest post September 12th
Please don't be dead.
I remember seeing these first posted in /agdg/ on /vg/
So, is there a genre like cyberpunk but "happier"? I don't know if thats the right word to use but I'm looking for something with a similar aesthetic to cyberpunk but without the themes of post-industrial dystopias, disparity between social classes and megacorporations and such.
I remember watching a few of them on Shotime in the early 2000s. I remember them being pretty stand alone. Sure I didn't recognize the characters but the stories where all self contained. Like as long as you know that the cops have mechs you'll be fine.
A cyberpunk world is filled with happiness.
It's just the material usually focuses on the other sides of it and not the people who are well off or enjoy happiness in a syringe/button.
Yeah I guess that would just be sci-fi, wouldn't it. Well shit.
I'm sure there is happiness in cyberpunk worlds, but as you said, the material doesn't really focus on that aspect. I do enjoy cyberpunk and the grittier aspects, but I'm just looking for something a bit lighter with a similar aesthetic that DOES focus on the happier aspects
She is playing Motoko Kusanagi in a live action GiTS film filming this year. It will be in Neo Jew York
if you can find out where they are filming and sabotage it, you can end this grave offense.
Arise is a disgusting piece of shit just on principle
it would be like if they made a prequel to Blade Runner that was just cyber-punk Brick as deckard goes through highscool solving a mystery involving an all-replicant cheersquad.
I just don't care at this point. I won't go and see it. It will bomb.
Mark these words
Yeah I dunno. When I first heard of this I was kinda pissed, but now I'm more curious about how it will turn out.
It'll probably be shit, but I still kind of want to see it. Assuming it doesn't go the way of that live action Akria movie and just doesn't come out period. We'll see I guess.
Wel Neuromancer seems kind of neutral in terms of saddness/happiness, more of looking at a world changed by technology and ingenuity.
Those space rastas living on a cobbled together port station moving around with low gravity and a constant ganja presence seemed pretty chill.
Really wish this game was translated into english. A lot of the cool cyberpunk games from japan didn't make it over.
>And the anime fanboi’s completely missed the memo and are losing their minds over one of the most >>talented<< and beautiful women on the planet potentially being cast to play their faporite character from a derivative 20 year old story.
Oni is pretty great. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Gameplay is tight and holds up today.
Story is pretty GitS
There's plenty of mods including hi-res textures, model replacements etc
The game is pretty much an unofficial GitS game anyway, art-wise it's stylistically a little lighter, but every character is pretty much a section 9 analogue.
Are you fucking kidding me? Now Hollywood has started raping its own classics, I thought we were finally past the age where America takes superior foreign productions and turns them into vapid bullshit for their moutbreathing., burgermunching audience.
Fuck me, I hope the bubble bursts soon. I hope we get to see directors and producers leaping to their deaths like stock brokers never actually did in the 30's.
>there still isn't any decent porn of that
>I thought we were finally past the age where America takes superior foreign productions and turns them into vapid bullshit for their moutbreathing., burgermunching audience.
What? That Era has just begun
Anyone else hyped for GITS Online?
All things considered she is probably one of the better choices for the role. Not perfect but at least decent. There are plenty of other ways to mess up a GitS movie than just the actress for the major. I have no doubt that Hollywood will try to get as many things wrong as possible.
Mad? Nigga I ascended beyond emotions and became one with libido
All of my why's and for what reasons went into that episode.
I'll probably remember it right before I die.
>Gameplay is tight and holds up today.
Not the shooting. Melee is awesome, shooting is awkward as hell.
Fortunately, from what I recall, you don't really have to ever use a gun.
She uses a futuristic P90 right? What's that grenade launcher Batou used based of?
Honestly, taking any regular franchise and appending it with "online" is usually synonymous with saying "this will be a half-assed product that will suck and only exists to grab the cash of the poor fools who buy in early".
This. The trailer looked like there were at least trying to create some proper gameplay from the building blocks the series provides but it won't go above a regular run of the mill class based team shooter.
I very much doubt it will include anything like hacking or electronic warfare.
I ran a cyberpunk 2020 game with a character that had a liquid hydrogen ionized plasma sword that electrically charged bullets to magnetically reflect them off the blade, the user had a chip that increased reaction times to superhuman levels to boot. He used a form of Iaito fighting style since he always had to recoat the blade in the sheath to keep it at plasma state. Shit was cash yo.
There are custom levels and people still working on online and a Mokoto mod
Motoko's weapon is a compact carbine that's a blend of the P90 and a chinese bullpup
Charging handle and grips from the P90 but magazine well and ejection port from the chinese gun
Batou's is just what he says it is, a generic big gun, its some sort of magazine fed cannon, that has no real world production equivalent
Closest available is this experimental weapon
if they are forced to use a white woman, wouldn't pic related be a better choice since she looks like an actual manufactured doll.
This. Lucky for us the Japs are actually pretty strict about brand licencing for this type of shit. So far only a few shitters have slipped through like that Dragonball movie.
Pacific Rim was originally supposed to be a live action Evangelion movie.
Watch the original Patlabor OVA (called OVA1 or 'The Early Days') first to get a grip on the setting and the characters. There's also an excellent TV show and sequel OVA series, but that's a different continuity.
why be tired of middle age stuff if you can have both ?
Jesus, why do people hate Arise so much? I quite like it. Motoko feels like a good mix between her depressive, introspective self in the film, and the more fun, imposing, super-spy girl from the series. It's beautiful to look at and while it can be really hard to follow each case as it happens, they usually tie up really neatly by the end of the episode.
>implying Blade Runner wasn't already a pisspoor adaptation of a superior novel
How is Blade Runner cyberpunk, anyway? Do Androids Dream sure as hell wasn't cyberpunk, so does Blade Runner magically become cyberpunk because of that one, single scene with the Asian advert?
But Arise Motoko can't do anything other than scowl or fuck notKuze, even in the final episode none of the plot threads made any sense and it looked like as at the best of times.
I heard about SJ being the Major, but I didn't know it would be set in New York. Jesus. It'll be Dragonball Z: The Movie all over again.
Also, everyone knows she won't get buff for the role.
But that's an incredibly thin premise to call it cyberpunk on. There are none of the typical cyberpunk themes going on, except for machine intelligence. And in the book they were born from Dick's obsession with people walking around who didn't seem, you know, people when you looked at their actions. That's why the androids don't have empathy. They represent that fear, and the novel is in part an examination of that and Dick's obsession with the difference between real and fake in general. It's not a point about machine intelligence.
So the novel is decidedly NOT cyberpunk, and the movie doesn't add anything to the novel to make it more cyberpunk, so following logic the movie isn't cyberpunk. And I get the impression people call it cyberpunk for the same reason they call any old wish fulfillment bullshit steampunk: They liked how it looked. The sprawling megacity, the flying cars, the Asian advert scene all appealed to their inner vision of cyberpunk, even when the movie itself is regular, old undifferentiated science fiction in term of themes.
Joke's on them, too. Most of those buildings are empty.
>edge of tomorrow
fucking contrarian hipster faggots, you wouldn't know good media if it slapped you in your fat faces. Not to mention watching Tom Cruise die multiple times in a single movie is extremely satisfying.
Even GitS has taken a nosedive.
Have all the great franchises fallen, /v/? Is anything left?
This definitely needs to happen. So sick and fucking tired of the European swords and shields and sorcerer nonsense as well.
Would be neat if Wayforward made a 2D cyberpunk game. Just for the hell of it.
The anime is brief, interesting, has a strong sense of tone, but ultimately doesn't do the manga justice, especially seeing as it doesn't touch on the story at all pretty much, it's cool if you want to see a little bit of animated Blame! but reading it is the best way to go by far.
>American Hollywood GitS
>ScarJo as Motoko
R.I.P. Ghost in the Shell. You had a great run. I can't think of another franchise that was consistently good for so long.
You'll be missed.
I just want an old R6 video game based in the GiTS universe.
The variety of enemy types and new ways to get tactical advantages would be great and they could actually make the plot interesting rather than have some no name Eastern Europeans or towelheads just fuck things up for some sort of civil war scenario.
I can't get into EYE it feels more of a an experimental source mod than any final product.
It's average really. It's got some good action pieces but lacks in a lot of other ways. The music especially. It's shocking how they thought they could go from Yoko Kanno to whatever the fuck they had in ARISE.
Shit like Patlabor 2 there takes more time, writing skill, personal investment, talent and effort than is present in the modern industry or needed to make a buck. Same thing happened to anime as has happened or is happening to every other entertainment industry, sadly.
Moe shit sells better to the hardcore crowd, who lap up the merchandise and everything made for it. There is still good stuff out there, but I find maybe a handful of great shows every year to watch.
I honestly think the problem lies more on the 3dcg side than the moeshit side. We've always had both cool shit and moeshit, but lately everything that could be cool has been reduced to disgusting 3d tanks, cars, mechs and whatnot
It's not unwatchable trash, but it's extremely bland and a major step down in quality in just about every way.
It also pulls ideas from all over the rest of the franchise shamelessly. And its version of section 9 isn't really likable. they don't have much personality at all actually.
Just watch it. You'll see.
You can sell body pillows with Noa on them though, she's a qt.
cyberpunk is specifically HIGH-TECH and LOW-LIFE.
As in, the technology is ADVANCED and the quality of life is low (usually only for a portion of the people in a stark contrast to megacorporations and immense riches for the other portion)
Noa is GOAT tomboy and Patlabor GOAT everything, you're damn right you do.
Be aware that the series has two timelines. OVA series is good to start the series. TV one is more of slice of life with robutts here and there. I liked TV series more because it was chill as fuck.
I think a better name would be pre-cyberpunk.
Society in Watch_Dogs is on the verge of accepting technology as the ruler, but it was still fairly stable.
Kind of like the difference in setting between Deus Ex and Human Revolution.
In HR humanity was still struggling with accepting augmentations in society (cyberpunk), while this has been completely accepted in the future (post-cyberpunk)
There will be a certain period in time where a huge breakthrough in technology will take place that will impact human society. Watch_Dogs happened before such a change but showed signs of having one in the future, HR had that change happening in the events of the game, and DX had that change already happen in the past, with the consequences of that change being very noticable.
But yeah, if you changed a bunch of buildings and humans into something more traditional cyberpunk, you'd end up with a Psycho-Pass like setting where you play as some kind of vigilante.
Speaking of which, a Psycho-Pass game was announced for the Xbone.
Actually, during the JP stream where the game was announced the streamers held a poll if the audience riked eet, around 50% voted they hated it (probably for being on the Xbone only).
So make that 3 copies.
Live action is doomed from the get go with SJ. But I'd give it a chance with Spielberg, Cameron or Michael Mann at the helm. It might be tight.
Fuck Ridley tho, he done goofed with that Prometheus shit.
"And I also looooove the character I played. Mautaukau seems like an ice-cold, independant woman, something modern feminists can take an example from. Also we took the freedom to include a romance into the film, because she must have a human side to her, or she would be a blasphemic abomination."
>tfw my internet has gone full retard and won't let me post large images to 4chan anymore
I just want to post cyberpunk art for /v/
>quickly googling project vaulderie
>mfw I thought they could evade this complaint by needing to have the original game files as a requirement like OpenMW for Morrowind, essentially making it a mod
GODDAMN I'M PISSED
IT'S NOT LIKE YOU EVER DID ANYTHING WITH THE V:TM FRANCHISE AFTER CANCELLING THE MMO
THEY ARE NOT EVEN MAKING ANY MONEY OFF VAULDERIE, WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE SO MUCH
YES I MAD
Do not even begin to question this, it is a philosophical clusterfuck from now on.
Why did she tear her arms off? Is it not completely irrational, should she not be absolutely rational about her decisions? Does she still have some strong emotions? If she does then was this all out of anger? But does it not sadden her to be killed then, after doing such a stupid stunt? Why did she tear her arms off?
You had a period of rebelliousness get paved over by Youtube, Tumblr, and Taylord Swift. That's what killed cyberpunk. It isn't that the dystopian future went away. It's that it's already here. The masses kept in check by media custom tailored for idiots and to turn people into idiots. Sensationalism of fear and momentary upsets that soon fade into distant memory. Nobody is geared for long term efforts or planning anymore. Everyone has ADD. Just like the oligarchs desire.
DON'T YOU FUCK THIS UP YOU SLANTY EYED JEW SHIT PILES YOU.
DON'T YOU DARE.
Honestly, I think the reason for that whole thing was as simple as wanting to put a visually striking scene in an animated movie that's known for that sort of thing. It's dumb and kind of at odds with a lot of things in the narrative, but there's no point trying to dissect it.
What always bothers me about these kinds of argumentations is that you think you are excluded from this and some special snowflake who sees through all of the lies of the people at the top.
But if you and so many others are so much smarter than everyone else, why the fuck is the world so shit then?
This whole "the jews rule the world" and "nobody is thinking anymore" does not add up to the people who scream this.
The whole thing has no integrity.
>But if you and so many others are so much smarter than everyone else, why the fuck is the world so shit then?
That's the tragedy of anon, he's doomed to be smarter than the majority of people but not smart enough to seize the top (also social autism, but that's beside the point).
What grave offense?
Who the fuck else would you want to play a Live Action Kusanagi?
Fuck sabotaging it, I hope it's a great success.
And you can eat dick brouzoff
>implying first-worlders like us can even be cyberpunk when we lap up the consumerist shit-technology that's loafed out in front of us on a daily basis
The best you can hope for is pic related, again.
this. even if the movie is a total trainwreck I will at least have pic related to look at.
>Who the fuck else would you want to play a Live Action Kusanagi?
