We haven't had one of these in a while.
Diablo 2: Lord Of Destruction
Dawn Of War 2
Metro Last Light
C'mon, that year was great. There are much better options. HL2, Metroid ZM, Sly 2, Paper Mario TTD, Outrun 2, Ratchet 3, Metroid Prime 2, even Burnout 3...
Fucking anything but MGS.
2012 was a very weak year
My 2014's GOTY probably will be Bayo2
Mirror's Edge could've earned GOTY 2008 if it wasn't bogged down so much by EA's direction. Also, the game was short as fuck, and the ending was terrible. Then again, it was a pretty bleh year for games... the only other GOTY contenders I could think of are Saints Row 2, Dead Space, and Left 4 Dead.
>LoZ past Majora's Mask, MGS4, Pokemon, Skull Girls
If you spell best like this: S H I T
>dark cloud 2
>pokemon best gen
>silent hill 3
>Soul Calibur 2
>simpsons hit and run
>Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Before your faggot ass goes "but windwaker" it came out in 03 everywhere but nip land which came out less then three weeks before the new year
Every Zelda past Majora's Mask was a rehash with a gimmick.
MGS4 destroyed any semblance of credibility the previous games had, and actually made me enjoy the ENTIRE series less.
Pokemon is a watered down JRPG that they've been selling since 1996.
in my own experience :^)
It was supposed to come out in 2004, but it wasn't released until early 2005 (I think it was a January release). I understand your confusion, seeing how the story is set in 2004.
>Pokemon best gen
I stand corrected. There is a game that I've played that came out that year that was good.
And I was just going by Nip for everything.
>rehash with a gimmick
You say that as if that makes a game bad. A rehash of a good game is a good game.
>Beyond Good & Evil
I don't see what people see in this game to consider it a masterpiece. I thought it was a bland 3D Zelda clone with nothing going for it except a semi-cute female protagonist with green lipstick.
>Let's all play the same games over and over again because they worked the first time
Fuck yeah, game of the generation.
>Generic 3rd person shooter with shitty controls, retarded plot and mildly interesting characters
>Best game of 2005
In my defense I played it before he was telling people to kill themselves.
JRPGs get really varied anon.
I liked the fast paced action-y combat and large areas to explore in MGS4, plus it had beautiful graphics.
There isn't a game that came out first in 2003 that I could think of that I loved.
>Super Mario galaxy
my fucking nigga
only thing I'd replace is Prince of Persia Warrior Within and Two Thrones for '04/'05. Actually that's a lie I'd replace everything else bit I can't be bothered to type that out
I never liked any RE's. I just played RE4 because people said it was a good survival horror game, but it was just a shitty shooter game with the shittiest controls and gameplay mechanics I had seen in a long time in a shooter game.
My friend's a big fan of RE's and it's funny as hell how he tried to convince me that it's a good game
>the controls and camera are shitty on purpose to improve the atmosphere.
>the reason you can't move when you aim is because this isn't a generic 3rd person shooter, I mean you only shoot things ALL THE FUCKING TIME like in any other shooter, but this game is survival horror, so that just adds to the tension
>the horrible camera improves the game experience because if the camera is a terrible piece of shit it makes you frustrated and that adds to the horror element
I haven't even played RE5 or RE6 because I've seen gameplay videos and they are everything that was fucking terrible about RE4 except they added more shit instead of improving the game. I wouldn't mind the series if they made it a proper 3rd person shooter game with horror elements, but the way they try to make it something special and edgy with cluster fuck controls and adding more QTE's is just beyond retarded.
It's amazing how much I can loathe a game series I've never even like.
Dreamfall tells an excellent story in a very meaningful way. It's a game that really fails to utilise its medium. At least, as an adventure game, TLJ excelled; Dreamfall has mediocre puzzles, god-awful combat and a tank-esque control system that just feels unsatisfying.
Otherwise, aside from the gameplay, it's utterly superb.
>All this KI:U in 2012
The year of FTL, The Walking Dead, Hotline Miami, XCOM and Darksiders 2
The camera is put in places that make the most sense cinematically, such as pic related. Over the shoulder or top down wouldn't have the same effect.
The controls are meant to force you to either run or shoot, not both. If you choose to shoot, you need to commit to it. It would be pointless if you could strafe or bunny-jump around. Once again, see related pic. If you are inbetween 2 or 3 zombies closing in from opposite sides, you need to juggle shooting and maneuvering or you'll just get eaten by the zombies you have turned your back to.
How the fuck does anyone put anything other than Demon's Souls for 2009.
Originally had Morrowind for 2002, but having replayed it recently, it's aged like shite.
Dragon Quest 4 DS
Dragon Quest 5 DS
Dragon Quest 9
The camera isn't even the biggest issue with the older RE's. The biggest issue is with the entire series since RE1 all the way to RE6, that the controls are fucking horrible and it's nothing but terrible design and there is no excuse for bad controls. There's a shit load of game with better atmosphere than RE and they manage to do that without terrible controls or camera just fine.
>/v/ hating metroid, MGR3, Super Mario Galaxy, Mirror's Edge, New Vegas, Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs or MGRR
god damn it this made me puke my lunch
>I mean, they're all reasonable picks, and I'd agree, but fucking hell, man.
So you're calling yourself "a buttfucking retarded Nintendrone"
I havent played/owned enough video games to make one of these.
Metro LL was shit though. It wrecked everything that the first game did right, and even Metro wasn't that great. Red Dead Redemption was the better game of that year, and New Vegas was basically unplayable until half way through 2011, so that doesn't count either.
In case you're not a troll, your taste is beyond shit, please end your life.
>Red Faction 2
You're worst than the Uncharted 2 fags
Thinking back on it, 2013 was probably the worst year for videogames that I can remember.
The best thing they could do is
>make the controls smoother(movement, aiming, everything)
My biggest gripe with RE4 was that the controls felt impractical, wonky and clunky even after hours of playing. You get some what used to it but the entire game you keep thinking how terrible the controls really are and the fact that there is so much shooting in the game, while the controls are so terrible for a shooter game. That only underlines and highlights how terrible the controls are. I think those controls would be somewhat tolerable if the game was actually a survival horror with very little combat, but since it's basically revolving around combat, it pretty much ruins the game entirely.
Oh, and RE4 with good controls would still be a mediocre game at best, but at least it wouldn't be so irritating to play it.
I'll admit that 2012 was an awful year, but SCV is by far the best in the series. I have put literally over a thousand hours into that game alone. I am a massive fighting game faggot.
Personally, I wouldn't consider RE4 a "classic" RE game, since it doesn't have static cameras and you actually have a full range of motion while aiming your gun. I agree with you on this point though, but only for RE4. The older games can't really get much smoother.
>Oh, and RE4 with good controls would still be a mediocre game at best...
Check out The Evil Within.

"hey guys I LOVE 4chan.com"
probably owns all handheld consoles and ngage/10
literally nothing good
Man, it was a lot harder for the stretch from 2000-2008 than it was for every single subsequent year.
I've owned a gaming PC since I was a kid, and every single console released since 1997 bar the Xbone, and the DS STILL stands tall alongside the PS2.
I've been playing Japanese games since I was a child. I love a ton of western games (Vampire, PST, NWN, Icewind Dale, Divinity, Septerra Core, Anachronox, even some of the Elder Scrolls games) and whatnot, but JRPGs have generally always been my passion.
Oh, undoubtedly, but TLJ had to compete with SoA and it lost, whereas 2006 didn't really have any contenders for Dreamfall.
If Chapters continues to be good, it'll probably be my GOTY 2014.
I can't tell if my taste have gotten worse over time or better over time.

Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast
