Srsly, this shouldn't even be a contest.
>P.S. fuck the abysmal N64 controller
N64 didn't have better games at all if you cared about anything apart from muh Zelda, muh Mario, muh Banjo Zookie and muh Conkers. You get an N64 and you're forced to play the same dozen games as everyone else because that's where the good stuff ends.
It's not a contest, and you've missed too many great games off the PS1 list like Suikoden 2, Brave Fencer Musashi and Bushido Blade.
The only reason it's ever discussed is that there's a handful of very autistic Nintendrones here upset they missed out on the PS1 as a child.
People forget 1 thing. Gmaes on the fucking PS1 were easy as shit to pirate which means children had actually something to play while you were stuck with 0 games on a nintendo console because parents would rather pirate 3-4 games instead of buying 1.
It's not even a debate, it was literally the most one sided gen to date. The PS1 DESTROYED the N64 and the Saturn.
Add to Nintendo 64:
>Diddy Kong Racing
>Mario Party 2
>Wave Race 64
>Star Wars Shadow of Empire
>Star Wars podracing
>Mario Party 3
>Pokemon Stadium 2
>Mortal Kombat Tril
>Conker bad fur day
>Street fighter 2 turbo
>The new tetris
And your statement still holds true.
>Muh game library size!
>Forgetting that over half of it is shovelware trash.
Sonyggers are the worst. I'd rather have Sony die (which they will soon) and Sega come back to make gaming good again.
Ive been pronouncing Abysmal AbSymal for the past 8 or so years. I only recently found out that it was AbYsmal. Ive been reading it wrong for 8+ years ever since ive learned to speak a little english.
My mind quicly accepted it although it feels strange to be so wrong for so many years. Nobody bothered to correct me either.
It feels like i just switched timelines were instead of absymal, it's written abysmal.
Hey OP, I couldn't help but notice your list of N64 games is lacking a few entries
- Banjo Tooie
- F-Zero X
- Doom 64
- Conker's BFD
- Pokemon Stadium
- Paper Mario
- Mario Tennis
- Mario Golf
- Diddy Kong Racing
- Turok 2
Maybe you'll want to update that list for a more realistic comparison :^)
PS1 had great games but except for MGS and the 2D games very few of them aged well.
Nearly every N64 game on this list is still playable and holds up very well both in controls and even graphics in some cases.
It's just a mix of nostalgia and regret coming from the Drones. Their mom didn't buy them another console so they started hating the competing one.
They're still going at it at 20-35 years of age right now on this board.
>Star Wars podracing
Which was the weakest of all the versions because the sound was ass and even with the expansion pack it still look worse than the others. Literally the ONLY thing it has going for it is the twin thumbstick cheat.
You forgot all the japanese gems for PS1. 64 still has some, but it loss in numbers too. inb4 some nintendrone buttmad writing every game name and putting a comment like "shit" or "aged like milk" after, even if he never had played the game before.
>tfw having a console that could have tons of 4 player games and having tons of friends to play them with.
Thanks mom. I'm glad I didn't grow up to be a lonely bitter loser that hates fun because of no friends.
Most of those PS1 games aren't worth playing nowadays. They were good at the time but now they're considered mediocre. The N64 games usually have good gameplay that still holds up well to this day. Also you forgot F-Zero X, Banjo Tooie, Kirby 64, Sin & Punishment, Paper Mario, Mario Tennis and a few other N64 games.
OP here, just updated the image.
Anything else I've missed off?
>N64 wins because it has sub-30fps barely controllable FPS games!
For the price of one N64 game you could buy a PS game and a Multitap already.
Being revolutionary doesn't make it good. If anything that just makes it worse, for popularizing the whole cinematic game trend.
Shit story told shittily, decent gameplay which is dated and not really revolutionary.
Thanks a ton. Wild Arms 1 or 2? This will be played on my Vita.
Some questions about Wild Arms though if you don't mind
>are the battles slow paced?
>is the story good?
>how's the music?
>is the writing/characters enjoyable?
And are there any other PS1 RPGs that you would recommend over Wild Arms that are available on the PSN?
Best game of that gen hands down. Unless you count Starcraft on PC.
It's called The Playstation. PS for short and PS1 for short when the PS2 came out.
PSX is the name of the prototype for the Playstation. Magazines picked it up and it stucked to many children's heads for some reason.
Later on it was used to categorise PS1 and PS2 games at torrent sites into one category.
The only real world product that is called PSX is a DVR PS2 machine they made exclusively in Japan. It's UI birthed the comfy as fuck XMB.
PS1 is the right term, but if you want to go with PSX then go right ahead. People know what you mean.
PS1 had a better single player experience while N64 has a better multiplayer experience. Both were excellent for gaming.
>tfw I had both a PS1 and N64 and could enjoy the best of both.
>Duke Nukem 64
>Extreme G (FUCKING UNDERRATED)
>Goemon's Great Adventure
>Pokemon Puzzle League
>Duke Nukem Zero Hour
>Fighter's Desinty (UNDERRATED)
>Mortal Kombat 4
>Turok Rage wars
>Puyo Puyo Sun 64
>Tom Clancy 64
What would that have anything to do with the games and the controller being a massive pile of dogshit? It's the worst controller of all time. People were pretty much sawing off a part of the controller in a desperate attempt to make it more ergonomic.
I appreciate that you accept the Mario sports games. They're fucking amazing and more people should know that
Turok 2 was very impressive for its time, especially on the N64, since it made use of the expansion pack, had very good graphics and a lot of voice acting. The weapons and level design was very good as well.
It may have been surpassed by other games, but it deserves a spot on a best-of N64 games, just maybe not near the top.
Pokemon Stadium is a fucking amazing party game. The rest of the game can be considered optional content
>Crash Team Racing
>Hogs of War
>several NBA games
>several Twisted Metals
>Micro Machines V3
>list goes on
I sure got my value out of the Multitap I bought.
It's true though.
Face it if you were playing most PS1 games for the first time today you would not find them noteworthy. Many are actively unenjoyable because the graphics are ass and the gameplay is either a gimmick or an retrospecively awkward intermediate stage in the genre's evolution.
N64 titles, on the other hand, play like modern cell phone games.
> Got rid of the shit games
You left Turok on there
Your Autism must be acting up again, keep out your arbitrary horse shit out of here if you'e this ass hurt over the PSX curb stomping the N64's pitiful library. Both in quality/quantity.
>defending N64 games
>talking shit about PS graphics
Do you need coke bottle glasses by any chance? The only thing the N64 does well is the 3D rendering. The actual models and textures absolutely fucking suck in every single game thanks to the 64 MB cartridge limit.
I'm a nostalgafag, so I would tell you Wild Arms 1 over 2, but I'm sure most people will say 2 over 1. I kinda just say go for Wild Arms 2.
Battles are average paced. Its just the basic turn based combat in most RPG's of the 90's. The music is really good. The story and characters are a mixed bag. WA1 had great characters with an ok story while WA2 had a much better story but meh characters.
As far as other RPG's on PSN goes, I'd highly recommend Grandia. Its probably more linear as fuck then Xenogears, but you will fall in love with these characters.
Bad controllers can hinder sales too did /v/ forget? It's one of the reasons why N64 sold like shit
>had loads of good games, but was shit for multiplayer, and didn't really innovate shit
>had some of the most important games ever made, games whose design is still implemented in games to this day, and had god tier multiplayer
PSX is for people who don't have friends.
Oh, and as other anons have pointed out, Doom64 is a great game. You should play it if you think it's a lazy port of the old Doom.
That's why I didn't even address that in my first answer
>people arguing about graphics
Are you niggers serious? ALL 5th gen titles look like complete shit today. The question of whether you prefer complete shit or complete shit with slightly better textures or slightly higher framerates is not really relevant.
N64 has a small amount of very good games, although a lot of them are very samey.
PSX has a large amount of pretty good to just okay games and there's a lot of variety.
take your pick of what you want.
Ya'll can be mad and stuff, but we'll just be here, in the basement, eating 3D doritos, playing Goldeneye and Smash and Mario Tennis and MarioKart and fucking having the best time ever while you play the siphon filter 2 demo by yourself.
PS1 is better than N64
Gamecube was better than PS2 though
Someone post that 4chan cap with the dude going through a few consecutive posts comparing N64 and PS1 games by genre. It really just settles this.
Is this really the only reason why N64 can be considered better than the PS1?
Touge Max G
Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold
Gran Turismo 1
Gran Turismo 2
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Ridge Racer Type 4
Brave Fencer Musashiden
Star Ocean 2
NFS High Stakes

Namco Museum 1,2,3,4,5

Breath of Fire 4
It's the games I can get from my head and I haven't see mentioned yet.
>Or I could not play Doom ports
Didn't I say it's not a port? Let's have a look...
>You should play it if you think it's a lazy port of the old Doom
Oh yes, I did. Maybe try reading comprehension
the gamecube was the worst 6th gen console
Xbox: Best Online, Best performance, shared a large amount of it's library with pc releases as well like Half life 2 for an example.
Largest Library, Best Exclusives, Most exclusives.
It's hilarious that the Xbox, a new console from microsoft still managed to beat the Gamecube in sales.
Two generations in a row where Nintendo were blown out by newcomers.
>what is the PC Engine CD
Game design is much more important than storage in the long run anyways. This is why OoT and SM64 always chart higher than any PS1 games on Best of All Time lists.
Wow you're a fucking retard. And you're so smug about it too. You're just stating it as matter of fact like you're so convinced of your shitty opinion. God damn, learn to critical think you piece of crap.
