I like colors and appealing character and enemy designs.
Why would I play a game to play as boring fucking historic figures and plain looking asian men? That's as generic as it can fucking get.
Take it a step further and have me be a fucking rainbow giraffe riding on a ferris wheel for fucks sake. I get one edition that appeals to that historic theme, but all of them? Hyrule warriors is miles better after a load of that shit.
I actually give a fuck about the characters in Hyrule Warriors. I couldn't give two shits about some weird reinterpretation of characters from Chinese history. I played a few of the earlier Dynasty Warriors games. They were alright.
But the series lost me when they kept reusing the same stages over and over and over, and instead of giving new characters interesting fighting styles with interesting weapons, they started adding wacky as fuck weapons. Like stuff that makes no sense at all. Less sense than a magical harp.
It's not that Dynasty Warriors sucked originally. They just didn't seem inclined to add enough new stuff with each iteration. I'd play a new one for a while and feel like I'd already played it before.
If Hyrule Warriors made more than half a dozen sequels that were basically the same game as the ones before it, I'd pass on it too. But for now it's really fun, has tons and tons of content, and I like the characters.
Zelda Musou is one of the higher quality Musou games, honestly. Probably thanks to that Nintendo gold. That's not to say it's a great game, just that it's not utter shit like, say, either of the Ken's Rage games.
>Why are more people interested in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon than the normal Fushigi no Dungeon series?
>Why are more people interested in Pokémon Conquest than the normal Nobunaga no Yabou series?
>Why are more people interested in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge than the normal Panel de Pon series?
>Why are more people interested in Pokémon Pinball than a normal pinball game?
>Why are more people interested in Super Smash Bros. than a game that has no graphical assets other than hitboxes?
I'm the opposite of that image, but that is because I fuckin love the Three Kingdoms lore. I assume the same can be said for Zeldafags like Hyrule Warriors, but not DW.
I know when I heard those retards Two Best Friends saying HW was the best musou game, it sure as shit wasn't from a gameplay perspective. Purely cause muh zelda, which is fine.
>Boring fucking chinese family bullshit
>Every game *looks* like shit
>Every enemy is some fucking asian with a sword.
It's not just the gameplay that's boring and repetitive, but everything around it anon
I understand liking Hyrule Warriors and finding Dynasty boring, because the Zelda world has many different monsters and creatures that you can make into enemies with cool gimmicks and weaknesses/strengths, where-as Dynasty Warriors is a historical based game, where every enemy is a human with no differences at all other than their weapon types.
Nintendo didn't even develop Hyrule Warriors. Koei Tecmo did. They're the ones who went to Nintendo to ask to use Zelda, and they also published the game in Japan instead of Nintendo.
It's like how Bayonetta 2 is a Sega IP made by PlatinumGames being published by Nintendo. Despite Sega not developing or publishing it, they still own the IP, like Nintendo does for Hyrule Warriors.
Personally I'm maining Shiki, but Ryouna's gameplay style is very unique. All of the girls are way more varied and fun to play than I had anticipated.
I don't even own a Wii U, but honestly DW8 gets boring pretty fast thanks to bland ass textures and enviroments, nothing but a mirrion chinrese troops for enemies and wonky ass animations.
From what I've seen of Hyrule Warriors it looks way more fun despite being basically the same game with a fresh coat of paint and a few more features.
I wouldn't eat store-brand potato chips.
Also, I hadn't played a DW before so it's not like I thought anything of it. I also haven't really ever played a Zelda, so it hasn't as much to do with the coat of paint, either. I got it because it looked
>there are people who legitimately can't understand that there is more than one factor involved in deciding whether someone likes something
>mfw playing as Ganon the first time
But I would put Era of Time Epona Link above all of them. Dear God the first time I tried her I was stomping and trampling Zelda under what felt like 10 tons of angry Horse hooves.
It was fucking delicious.
>people say HW has a "lot" of "content"
>the same 10 Adventure mode scenarios are just copy pasted 128 times with alternating characters
>paid dlc map is the same exact shit, oh but this time you can't block!
yeah, nah. Fighting the Imprisoned or King Dodongo AGAIN on a different map does not mean more content.
I usually listen to a podcast only because I like one dude in there that acid as fuck and 2 cohost are Nintendo manchildren (both of them are well over 35) one of them HATED Dinasty Warriors games.
He got HW and it was praising it, when the acid dude said "Well all those features have been going on on DW/SW/etc for eons", the Nintendo fanboy when into defensive mode and then admitted that he was only enjoying the game because of the Zelda IP.
Fucking Nintendo fanboys, so long that shit that gameplay was king, huh?
>plain looking asian men
Say that to my face on the battlefield faggot and not online and see what happens
>All attacks are devastating
>Choose Zelda with the baton
Nintendrone here, loving Hyrule Warriors.
Not every game on the WiiU is a masterpiece. Frankly, HW is the best on it. The only runner up option is Pikmin 3, and that's too short to be enjoyable (with it's greatest strength being pretty visuals).
setting and characters play a big part in appeal?
i mean i know those ancient chinese battles were brutal and shit but i don't really care about them
however i do care about hyrule and its inhabitants
There's also Saint Seiya warrior and wan piss warrior.
The first thing Koei think when getting new license is, how can we warrior this shit?
>all attacks are devastating
>just shoot the captains from a distance with a bow
>run around at the speed of sound
I'll take your word on Bayo and W101 (meant to get W101, never did, don't have the money at the moment for either).
But Mario 3D World is ehh.
I was never into Dong, so I didn't get tropical dong
This shit proves it's literally all marketing and appearances that make a game great.
I like Dynasty warriors but can only stand like a few hours before I want to shut it off.
Dynasty warriors Gundam, however, I played the ever loving fuck out of.
Then Hyrule Warriors my friend and I played for fucking ever.
I know I'm retarded for liking it, but I don't care.
It's all appearances, slap a Zelda skin on fucking Cookie Clicker and people would call it GOTY
the "hyrule skin" includes music, character design, dialogue, etc. Those are all very valid things to enjoy in a game, don't feel BAD for caring about them.
And in this case, it appeals to a franchise that you already have a lot of emotional attachment / investment in. That's also not something to be ashamed of, but at least realize that it's a factor.
Same reason MMOFats can mindlessly grind the same shit reskinned mobs over and over and over and over and fucking over again.
Anyone with a brain will quickly realize they're playing the same game and get just as bored.
Hokuto 2 was not only a massive improvement from the original Hokuto 2, it was a generally good Hokuto game. Impressively large cast (Not One PIece's level, but still good), completely varied movesets, combat was actually fast (Unlike in the original Hokuto where everyone except for Rei was a slug), and the fights in general were great.
Battride War 2, while good, lacks a lot of variety in characters. The various different forms are mediocrely different, and most of the super forms aren't even well-made. Like OOO's PuToTyra form has three attacks: PU TO TYRA HISSSSSSATSU, ice, and flying around like a tard. Also, it had a seriously bad case like Hokuto 1 of constantly having bosses that are very obviously capable of being playable characters but aren't ever used. Like Caucusus and the more humanoid antags like Daguva. Also very few secondary Riders.
by far, the most OP character ever made. ever.
>played since DW3
>didn't play DW7 because fuck console wars, I'll stick to muh master race
>DW8 comes out on steam
>everything and then some
also - is it just me, or are the female characters super slutty in this one?
Not quite the same. The Saint Seiya game is more akin to classic beatemups. There's no "bases" to capture, there's no free moving, instead you advance through a linear path stopping every so often to clear groups of enemies, ala Final Fight. The groups are large though, but not DW-large.
I dunno why people dump on Musou games to be honest. Other than Mario, what game changes up its fundamental gameplay between iterations on a regular basis?
I wouldn't really say every Musou is worth getting, but much like WWE games they're worth checking out every few years.
Hyrule Warriors is pretty fucking great, though. It's definitely the best one in recent memory.
A game based around the boring and simple fighting of a Zelda game? No thank you. The main focus of your adventures as Link are the actual adventures. The battles are bland and are used almost solely for the purpose of extending the game and allowing time to be taken up.
>N3 and N3 2 are some of my favorite games, loving the gameplay and varied enemies
>Can't stand playing Dynasty warriors and others because the gameplay is rigid and there's only 2 types of enemies
>DW gets 10 games and 40 spin off, N3 is dead
That said I thought DW gundam 3 was somehow decent.
A paintjob can do a whole lot. Not to mention, most of the themed musous are better than the mainline games.
For instance, the first Ken's Rage is fantastic. I happen to like FotNS, so it works. Ken's Rage 2 was balls though.
Like I fucking care. If you're gonna get gritty, make it something other than godawful historic asia. Who actually gives a shti? Who? Give them unique battle armor or something.
>people not liking hokuto musou near me
Jagi a fun
I can't get enough of these games, got Gundam 2 & 3, Hokuto 1, One Piece 1 & Zelda
Also Bladestorm and Ninety Nine Nights were super fun games of this type too
Gonna grab some mainline DW games at some point
I didn't make it past the second level in Houkuto Musou. The combat was slow, and I had to kill each and every mook individually. The level design was just corridors, and buildings kept falling down for no reason. It just wasn't fun.
Guys we can all agree that this mother fucker is the best though right?
>implying a one-dimensional thing can't be fun if it's an excellent dimension
These days? Yes. Back on the ps2, I would've agreed with you.
Not him but I cleared the story mode and still think it's shit
All the levels were nothing but corridors and HOLY SHIT the framerate on the WiiU fuck
Having played both the Zelda one is a good deal more refined.
Weapons wise Zelda has a pathetic 20 or so compared to the 70 in DW but it does help make them feel more individual and every one has some sort of neat trick. Most in DW feel very similar.
No horses is something I prefer, it just makes pacing smother not having to wait for it.
Biggest thing is the lock on and lack of the earth/heaven/man weapon thing. It makes officers actually fun to fight.
To be fair, many tutorials are absolutely insufferable, unskippable garbage tailored for people playing babby's first game.
>Press X to jump!
>Now try jumping over this box!
But I did make it past the tutorial. I played the tutorial, the first level, and the first part of the second level, then said "fuck this I'm not actually having any fun".
The combat was just tedius as fuck. What's the point of a musou where you can only attack one enemy at a time? I'm a huge HnK fan too. Some more fanservice could easily have propped the game up, but it used none of the manga's locales (everything was dusty corridors holy shit,) the side characters had next to no presence, fuck the mooks didn't even explode properly, their models just distorted, like a glitched game. Shitty as fuck music too. I would have carried on if they were playing that kickin orchestral version of You wa Shock that plays in the anime.
I couldn't do it man. It was all bad, none of it was good.
At least I can import this one if it doesn't
It wasn't fun then and it isn't fun now. It's always going to be shitty. Do people find fighting hoardes of enemies with an overpowered 180 degree slash fun? Do people actually enjoy the 30 seconds just sitting there watching the screen after hitting the hit button once? Do people who play these games ejaculate when they see a superty duper whirlwind slash? All this game is is a collage of pretty effects that the weak minded drool over. Just look at the fucking gameplay
This game is just to show off every characters attacks and magic no challenge just cinematics
>Is it actually possible for people to enjoy things I don't enjoy?
>combined with a King of the Hill picture from when Hank plays GTA
Are you secretly trying to say that you like musou games?
That whole set.... that whole fucking set!

>They're the ones who went to Nintendo to ask to use Zelda
A bit of a correction. They approached Nintendo to ask them to make something closer to an actual Zelda game, but Miyamoto said they'd have to make Musou with Zelda characters instead.
Musou is best genre.
Really, to be honest, DW is endearing because the history isn't as important. The character types are all pretty damn universal. Only a very few are all that anime-y, and you can get sucked into the chivalrous manly war between great leaders, daring generals, mighty warriors, brilliant tacticians, and virtuous maidens without even having to catch up too much with names.
Nothing important happens after Chi Bi though.
No it isn't. It's a dumbed down beat-em-up. I like them but get real.
Wang a cutie but she is a bit of an ice queen.
>No it isn't. It's a dumbed down beat-em-up. I like them but get real.
Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.
Wrong as it is.
>being Wu scum
not even once
Nothing important happens after Chi Bi though.
Sometimes I wonder how a DW game could work with Chi bi as the last stage or whatever.
>Wang a cutie but she is a bit of an ice queen.
I think that's part of her appeal.
>nothing important happens after chi bi
Get a load of this weifag.
Jin is best.
>not being Shu master race
Am I the only one who played this? I need to buy it back.
The best parts of the games. Well that and ambition mode.
Enjoy your mindless XXY grindan garbage.
Chi Bi would be unfulfilling. They kinda have to make it to Wu Zhang Plains just for the FINAL ZHUGE LIANG battle to pay off how much the story focuses on him.
If they rewrite that they could also revisit their portrayal of Shu and figure out why the supposed good guys are so damn unappealing.
Jin is pretty cool but mostly because of Zhang Chunhua. Sima Shi and Zhao are pretty cool too. They grew on me.
Basara is alright. The gameplay mechanics are all better but it fucks up with the DMC3/4 problem writ large. You got all these combos and all their good for is masturbation on HP soak weak ass enemies. But even then Basara high level gameplay takes away all the combos and just makes you parry bosses and cheese mooks. They somehow find high level gameplay WORSE than musou's awful high-end.
>you were born too late to marry her
>I think that's part of her appeal.
Problem is it's to the point where she's unmemorable apart from being cute. She doesn't seem to have a personality that complements or could otherwise temper/redirect/inspire Zhao.
Man Yingping was seriously broken. Dat EXattack 2.
>They kinda have to make it to Wu Zhang Plains just for the FINAL ZHUGE LIANG battle to pay off how much the story focuses on him.
I guess so huh?
Man I like Wu Zhang Plains and all but I'm tired of it being the last stage in almost every DW game.
Yeah I know then again I don't really expect much DW characters.
I still haven't finished Three Kingdoms yet. Just so many episodes. I'm on like 39 or something. Should get back to it someday.
>i never played the empires spin offs
Nigga, even if you don't give a shit about the characters (which I don't either, so I know what you're getting at), the Empires spin offs are fun as fuck.
>pressing Y for your charge attacks
>not superior X button
3D is world is arguably just as good as any other 3d Mario platformer
Its cool if you don't bong with the dong. Its not for everyone. But you can't take away the fact that its a fantastic 2d platformer
But OP, I hate Zelda but I like DW8 and 7 Empires therefore this image is wrong and I plan on getting DW8Empires when it will come out
top pic looks like the focus is more on watching gauges than what's happening on screen, and is visually unappealing
bottom looks like the focus is on the action, and is visually appealing
The game seems alot more streamlined. DW is kind of colored but not really, very explosive and all over the top with a bland military-ish sound track.
Hyrule warriors is colorful, it looks easy, it has a simple hud, it obviously wont have a deep story, it wont take itself seriously and the music wont be generic military shit but something lighter.
Yeah, it just feels like its a very streamlined game over DW. Instead of being all over the place its going to be focused on being a simple enjoyable experience.
The device something is on doesn't make said game good no matter how many games are on said device. If a game is shit, its still shit. If a game is good, its still good.
This game is good.
Also the Wii U is the only console with games anyways. Well Japanese ones, anyways.
A lot of shitposting in this thread... However, as someone who played DW for 1000 hours, thinks it's OK but enjoys the fuck out of Hyrule Warriors right now:
Hyrule Warriors has better gameplay, there are no dodging mechanics in DW8, you have to avoid damage by either blocking or jumping away like a frog, both feels and looks terrible. In Hyrule Warriors there is proper circle-strafing, you have to time dodges to roll through fire, there are some new cool mechanics, especially "buying" levels, the adventure map, the weakspots and so on. There is too much content. Yes, that's a thing. If you have to dig through 100 weapons and characters to find something that's actually fun, it's suboptimal.
And of course it's more fun to control a Zelda character like Impa, Link, Ganondorf, Sheik and soon maybe Fierce Deity and Majora than some retarded chink with kpop hair and a story that has barely anything to do with what really happened back then.
Fire Emblem Musou when? It would've been infinitely more appropriate than Zelda.
Also am I the only one who hates how Smashfags have permanently ruined /v/'s Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus threads?
>Fire Emblem Musou when? It would've been infinitely more appropriate than Zelda.
Not really. At first you might believe this, but then you actually play Hyurle Warriors and realize it's actually a great match. One of the things that makes Hyrule Warriors so good is the soundtrack, Fire Emblem doesn't come close when it comes to catchy tunes and even epic tracks. Established characters like Ganondorf fans always wanted to play, the adventure mode, Zelda elements and much more.
The only thing Fire Emblem had going for it is "b-but there actually are... armies..."
How about pointing out how my post is shit instead of just, you know, shitposting?
I like dynasty warriors games. I dislike zelda games. The zelda image does look more pleasing than the dynasty warriors image in op.
>There is too much content. Yes, that's a thing. If you have to dig through 100 weapons and characters to find something that's actually fun, it's suboptimal.
Gd, this so much. For some reason I kept giving bows and guns a chance but they are so terrible, every time I used one I literally wasted 50 minutes of my life time beacuse it wasn't fun in any way.
>playing as horrible buff Meng Huo from 6
You ain't my Nanman.
>says it's lame playing as a chink with kpop hair
>honestly wants to play Another Link and the worst Zelda villain in history
One Piece is the worst of the spin offs. Hyrule Warriors is probably second best of the spin offs, but Gundam is the top. None of them are better than DW8XL's full package though.
He's hot anon, I want to lick his abs
Fire Emblem games have pretty good sountracks, usually.
But more importantly, there are literally hundreds of characters they could use.
And yes, there are actually armies. Adding stuttering doesn't change that.
>None of them are better than DW8XL's full package though.
If you only care about content, maybe. Gameplay-wise DW8 is absolute dog shit. I have no idea why they would cut the dodging and circle-strafing mechanics... instead of... improving it. Also literally no variety, no bosses, barely any secrets on the map, no little puzzles, nothing like that.
I wasn't really interested in Hyrule warriors as much as the other Dynasty Warriors games
I love the shit out of the new Dynasty Warriors, and was kind of hoping Lu Bu would randomly appear in Hyrule Warriors to fuck shit up if the player is doing good on a harder mode.
>muh Lu Bu, he so cool and hardcore, actually cried like a bitch in reality and was a traitorous little bastard, also has shit character design in the games... but he so cool and hardcore, muh Lu Bu
No, thanks, Ganondorf is like a hundred times more badass and MORE FUN TO PLAY (hell, guys from Koei actually said he would wreck Lu Bu's shit), even Volga is.
just started playing DW8 on pc after playing hyrule warriors demo. Im having a blast on ambition.
Should I do story mode?
Tips on leveling?
>pic related my new waifu
>what's with the Salarymen?
what's NOT with the salarymen?
