So what can we expect from Capcom from now on?
Maybe a game focused on Fucking your mom?
And Street Fighter.
Don't forget mobile spinoffs of all your favourite series' ;^)
Dragon's Dogma sold 1.3 million, and they don't care about the older Devil May Cry games, but the performance of DmC which barely inched over a million.
Street Fighter V and Resident Evil Revelations(being released episodically instead of one very good game), so nothing but shit on the horizon.
Oh, and probably a lot of iOS casual social RPGs...like Rockman Xover, which for all of the ways it shit on Mega Man, was a decent success in Japanland.
I'd capitalize on fucking your mom, all right.
>silently release yet another port of Darkstalkers on the PSN with a shitty filter on it
>nobody buys it, predictably
>huh I guess you guys don't want a new darkstalkers game.
I already supported them by buying their previous games, even that PSP port with no fucking online(I loved it, but...)
There was no way Darkstalkers was ever going to be picked up again, and they just "HDified" it for the sake of a quick buck, with the adverts being all "MAYBE IF YOU BUY THIS, WE'LL MAKE A BRAND NEW DARKSTALKERS"
The sooner Capcom burns to the ground, the better.
>Buy BG&E or you won't get a BG&E2!
>Buy BG&E HD or you won't get BG&E2!
>Buy Jade's Game or you won't get BG&E2!
>Buy Raving Rabbids or you won't get BG&E2!
>WHOOPS LOOKS LIKE THE NEW RAYMAN FLOPPED, GUESS IT'S JUST NOT PROFITABLE TO CATER TO THE NICHE GAMERS ANY MORE, OH DARN AND DRAT HOW WE SO WANTED TO MAKE THAT GAME
When will publishers go away forever?
Seriously though who would want this
The 1.3 million number was from a year and a half ago. Doesn't include Dark Arisen either. Capcom themselves said the game sold more than they expected from the start.
That said, I still doubt there will ever be a sequel. Open world games blow obscene amounts of money on art assets and world-building; the two areas in which Dragon's Dogma needs the most work. 2 million sales is probably ultimately a low number for the genre it is.
>tfw Lost Planet 1, Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising, every non-handheld Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Freedom, every Resident Evil spinoff, every Ace Attorney game, every Mega Man game, every Street Fighter game except 2 and 4, and more all sold fewer than 2 million and still got sequels
Stop taking this stuff literally.
>Marvel VS Capcom 3 sells over 2 million copies
>Still no sequel
>Still no DLC characters since Ultimate
This is a recent announcement and they also said no new Darkstalkers because nobody bought that Darkstalkers 2+3 "HD" port that nobody knew about.
But the engine is done. The formula is done. The fanbase exists. All they need to do is add more shit to make up the costs. More expansions, more DLC content, more of that infamous shit that CAPCOM is known for. If the West shared this mentality, Bethesda would have never made it far enough to make Fallout 3.
Meanwhile the Monster Hunter experience has remained relatively the same, and each release only brings in more and more sales. The only reason why Monster Hunter wasn't axed like Dragon's Dogma is because its protected by its own praetorian guard.
>2 million sales is probably ultimately a low number for the genre it is.
Maybe, but this shit was a completely new franchise and it wasn't exactly advertised either.
You can't be a modern company and expect your new franchise to perform on the same levels as existing ones.
No, fuck you, marketing on this website is atrocious and tantamount to shouting over a loud speaker.
capcom's been dead for years now, there's nothing left to complain over.
shitting on megaman, resident evil, darkstalkers, dmc
dragon's dogma was a literall fluke. and they'll keep trying to rehash and westernize their games complaining over what should be an easy forseeable shitty call it is.
even if they would bring back darkstalkers, megaman or anything else. it would be horrible.
that being said, they just need to make monster hunters. that's all they're good for.
For some reason I find this even more insulting than the shit that EA pulls on a regular basis
>Oh, you guys want a new Darkstalkers?
>Okay, we're going to re-release an old Darkstalkers game. You guys better all buy it or you're not going to get a new one!
>lol idiots. We're not going to make it now because not enough people bought it. We can make more money releasing another costume pack for SF4 so we're going to do that instead.
Fuck you, Capcom. Fuck you for holding new games hostage and forcing people to buy re-releases of your older games just to PROVE TO YOU THAT WE ARE WORTHY ENOUGH TO BUY YOUR NEW SHIT. Your new games aren't even that good.
And I don't even like Darkstalkers
They actually tried to reverse their stance, after the internet laughed at their ridiculous expectations.
To give you an idea of how many games that is. GTA V sold 33 million units, over two consoles. There would have to be a ridiculous amount of hype for Dragon's Dogma to see those kind of numbers.
It was the largest team for a capcom game before resident evil 6
I recall capcom speaking about 10 million units as well at one point.
It's obvious that they wanted it to be massively more successful, and the game just didn't perform that well.
>Make sequel to only popular Resident Evil since RE4
>Make it using RE6 engine
>Don't fix any of the problems with the engine
>Make it episodic
>Sit on multiple sequels to multiple franchises with multi million dollar potential for fucking YEARS
>Occasionally tease the fans, getting their hopes up
>let some wannabe weeb western dev who's obsessed with himself make a sequel to a game he clearly hates
>Let him taunt the fans for a few years
>Let him put together and then release an inferior game
>More fan taunting and trash talking in very public forums
>Call fans out and call them "entitled" for having opinions and expecting sequels and or reboots to at least be similar to the source material
>Be surprised when game sells like shit
Dragons Dogma was not marketed well enough and did not have a PC release to really show the awesomeness of the game. fucking hell man they had a golden opportunity to really showcase this game. Shiett this game needs more love.
Thats why in big business, you try to resalvage the investment. Squeenix understood this when Crystal Tools turned out to be a massive bust and FFXIII pretty much set the bomb for FF's industry leader status. They didn't drop the whole damn thing, they forced Toriyama at gunpoint to churn out two more games to recoup the costs of the investment. And it worked; and with the PC ports, it'll continue to work.
The CAPCOM execs don't understand this. They don't understand basic business strategies; and this has been evident ever since they allowed their best and brightest to form their own umbrella faction in the form of CLOVER studios. From management to planning to overall company strategy, CAPCOM has been an utter failure for the past ten years.
Because as long as it's not the same kind of on-disc DLC they tried to pull with Street Fighter X Tekken, I don't mind paying a little more to add characters to a fighting game that I enjoy. It helps to extend the life of the game and keep it fresh.
I know the hivemind here tends to have the knee-jerk reaction that all DLC is evil, but it's really not. Done correctly, DLC can be a good thing
I think the executives thought they'd easily cash in on the Skyrim craze and that's the only reason the game got made at all. Only problem was they actually made a good game, when it's all the fluff that makes TES popular.
>xfd muh 10 millions
all Itsuno said was that he would personally love it if DD sold 10M, not that he or anyone else actually expected it to sell that much. He wanted it to be a success because it was his fucking dream game and the chance of a lifetime for him.
and in the same interview he even said he was pretty confident in at least 1M sales for Japan, but had no idea how it would do elsewhere. Jesus christ
>and with the PC ports, it'll continue to work
Holy shit, I can't believe how many mustards bought that game JUST BECAUSE IT WAS BEING PORTED.
And THEN BITCHED ABOUT IT LIKE SIX YEARS AFTER THE FACT.
>mfw all the people suggesting DD2 would be a sony exclusive
>mfw all the people suggesting DD2 would actually even exist
The spiritual sequel, Deep Down, technically is all of that. Its just that the executive board are getting greedy again and are turning this opportunity into a microtransaction p2w nightmare. Not even an Apple without Steve Jobs was this incompetent.
Well theres a cheat mod out if you want to speed through the whole thing. Achievement whores have been using it. I'm sure there will be a mod to skip to the frontier part of the game.
>finally get into Dragon's Dogma after not touching it for months
>it's one of the best games I've played in years, love very second of it
>it has flaws, but they don't overshadow all the good stuff too much, get super hyped at the prospect of a sequel
>see all this shit about how the game underperformed and will at best get a kinda sorta spiritual sequel with Deep Down that doesn't even look as good
Great. Fantastic. Based Capcom.
He's talking about AAA anyway. Ace Attorney will continue to thrive.
Might be hard to convince Capcom USA to keep bringing the games over though unless we get Nintendo to put the heat on them.
>Capcom USA understands the fanbase well enough to literally halt localization attempts on the game, simply because bringing it over would make future games sell even worse.
It's strange how one branch of a company can be so much more competent.
Generally speaking as time has gone on, Japanese companies with international branches have demonstrated significant management decay compared to their overseas subsidiaries. The effect has been quantified for Japanese video game companies, who can't really absorb the kind of big hits that other big industries can take.
>Capcom always says "WELL IF YOU BUY IT MAYBE WE'LL MAKE THAT GAME YOU WANT"
>Umbrella Chronicles sells kaboodles on Wii under the promise of the Wii possibly getting a legit Resi if it did well.
>Capcom just makes another shitty railshooter.
>Ports it when it doesn't also sell a ton.
>GUESS NOBODY WANTS MORE WII RESIDENT EVIL GAMES.
If anyone believes a goddamn word from Capcom's PR after that shit, they're a fucking idiot.
CAPCOM and Nintendo have a weird relationship. Sometimes, they're the best of friends with that Monster Hunter deal and how RE4 raked in the dosh. Sometimes, CAPCOM just wants to give Nintendo the finger.
Xover still gets content updates in Japan. From a PR standpoint, said content updates would only continue to infuriate an already irate Western demographic if those updates were brought over.
Umbrella Chronicles wasn't really that successful, especially considering the Wii's install base at the time.
it barely outsold fucking RE0 and that was a GCN exclusive that a lot of fans hated
Ah the publisher bait and switch classic
Will you going to have buy all of these shitty games. It doesn't matter if you already own, or you hate it.
Buy or your favorite game will die!
