The gamecube is appreciated because it was a mostly core focused console with a limited library focused on quality over quantity, with a small userbase compared to it's comptetiors at the time, but they could appreciate the amount of work that went into most of it's games, and thus ended up loving the system.

Nintendo allowed SGI and ArtX's design to stand as-is, and it was a face melting powerhouse because of it.. With the N64, Nintendo cut down on some very expensive exotic ram in order to make the system more profitable and gimped performance.

I still believe that forcing publishers to buy their cds, and releasing WW instead of TP and foolishly letting rare go and not buying sega when they had the chance pretty much destroyed the system and weakened their ability to stand alone in the future.

Software that went right:
- Better 3rd party support than N64. EA and Ubisoft tended to support it with their multiplats.

- Actually had RPGs. (again, cf N64) Lead system for Tales of Symphonia

- Ignoring the obvious Nintendo franchies on the system, it also had Rogue Squadron 2/3, Eternal Darkness, and was the lead platform for RE:4.

It was Mikami's decision fueled by his disdain for Sony. Capcom ported to PS2 what was left of the "Capcom 5" and would have done the same for REmake and RE0 if they could get away with it.

Nothing went right. It was a failure and Nintendo made the Wii so they wouldn't repeat the failure of the Gamecube.

Okay, if you used super cooling and over clocked the fuck out of it you would get performance that exceeds what the gc can do.

But practically...no. The GC was far more powerful then the original xbox. The xbox ximply had more media options, storage and hype.
