Wrex join's you, but not your party, but he's in your squad for the citadel DLC.
As for the plot, ME2's point was just for building characters. ME3's story is decent except for the last part of it and the giant deus ex machina waved in your face.

ME3 felt more like Gears of War than Mass Effect to me is my only problem with it. That's just my opinion in the end, but it stopped feeling like a shooter with heavy RPG elements instead of a shooter with special abilities here and there. Its a decent and competent third person shooter, but just not what I considered Mass Effect to be.

Every ME2 crew member comes back in ME3, the majority of them getting satisfying development and/or conclusions. Only Tali and Garrus actually come back as squadmates, but the rest have big impacts on the story. It's one of the best things about ME3, even if the actual ending is shit the personal endings for each character are worthwhile.
