I hate modern Sony but the PS1 was pretty fucking great. I have around 1400 ISO's on my HTPC, shit is cash.

That said I did prefer the N64 for dat multiplayer and superior platformers in SM64 and Banjo Kazooie. OoT was pretty sweet too.

Saturn was awesome too but I never owned one. The only person I knew with one was my next door neighbour. We'd play a lot of Virtua Fighter.

With keyboard the game's crazy as fuck. Then I got a sidewinder 3D pro and the game has never been the same ever since. You can actually control the Pyro extremely well with that joystick. It makes you feel all powerful, rocking the full 6 DOF like it's nobody's business.
I use the coolie hat to strafe (up, down and sideways), throttle for forward/reverse cruising, twisting the stick to roll, moving the stick for yaw and pitch. Weapons are selected using the keyboard, or cycled using some of the base buttons. The base buttons also control other utility functions you don't need all the time

The SNES is a natively tile based system. Doing per-pixel manipulation like Doom requires really backwards and inperformant techniques. The SNES excels at 2D but really really sucks at anything 3D, for technical reasons
