You have ten seconds to explain why this isn't the best roster of any Smash game.
You also have to say which Smash game does have the best roster and why - no, Project M doesn't count.
Kill yourself. It's the most disproportionate roster yet.
>4 FE characters, 1 of which is a turbo-clone
>3 KI characters, 1 of which is a turbo-clone
>7 Mainline Mario characters, 1 of which is turbo-clone veteran nobody wanted to return
>cutting the well-implemented Brawl -semi-clones: Lucas and Wolf
>cutting Ice Climbers
>cutting all the Gen 1 starters
>No new Donkey Kong reps
>No new Metroid reps
>Ganondorf is still a clone even while Sakurai admitted to rebuilding each character from the ground up
>Bowser Jr. is the only new villain
And all the characters that were heavily requested are nowhere to be found: Mewtwo, Ridley, Dixie, Impa, Isaac, an AW rep, K. Rool, fucking nobody. Sakurai has acknowledged all these characters before and chose to leave us in the cold.
Say what you will about Brawl but it didn't have a single melee-tier clone, and the newcomers for that game were miles above this game. It gave us guys like Wario, DDD, Meta Knight, Diddy Kong, ZSS, Wolf, Charizard, Olimar, etc.Yeah the game was shit, but that batch of newcomers had SERIOUS star-power.
This is the best roster. No matter what anyone says it is even way better than Project M. A few cut characters (Ice Climbers and Snake being the only important ones, but Snake is excusable), with a bunch of new very unique characters. There's also the lowest percentage of clones (not counting 64's 1 clone). Altogether it isn't perfect by any means, but it is definitely the best roster yet.
I'd rather have the happening space from mario party than the dog. They both have the same amount of character.
>Cutting Ice Climbers and the only other Mother rep
>No new villains
Only really hype newcomers were Megaman, Little Mac, Shulk, Pac Man, and Villager
>captain falcon clone
> marth clone
>characters removed because of 3dshit limitations
>no ice climbers
it's not the worst roster, but it could have better
The roster is great. I'd love to finally have an rep for Advance Wars and cutting Ice Climbers hurt, but every character deserves it's place and is fun to play as.
Bowser Jr and Dark Pit
>You have ten seconds to explain why this isn't the best roster of any Smash game.
lucas aint there no more
but we was there before
games in succession
shouldn't reverse progression
>people bithcing their asses off about the koopalings in Mario Kart 8
>people are hyped as fuck that they're in Sm4sh
Is it just bandwagon bullshit or is it just because they replaced muh dry bones?
Probably because they are alt costumes, not there own characters. I'd be fine with the roster if Dark Pit, Lucina, and Dr. Mario stayed as alt-costumes and we got Lucas, Ice-Climbers, and Wolf back instead.
>major Zelda character
>not heavily requested
>And all the characters that were heavily requested are nowhere to be found: Mewtwo, Ridley, Dixie, Impa, Isaac, an AW rep, K. Rool, fucking nobody.
Why the fuck are you bringing this up when the question is if it's the best roster out of the four games that are out? The only ground that statement holds is Mewtwo, because he's been in the series before.
Miis as a character are awful, but the way they were implemented in Smash is great. If you don't like them, don't use them, but if you do like them then you have a lot of options.
Impa was never highly requested you dong, it was either Skull Kid or Ghirahim when it comes to wanting Zelda newcomers. Impa was just expected.
>sales outside of Japan don't matter because it's a Japanese game
Impa is easily the fourth most significant Zelda character. Link, Zelda, Ganon, then Impa. No one else besides the main three have been in as many games or served as major of a role as impa has. And she has more moveset potential than any other currently unused Zelda character.
I'm sure every post saying this is the worst roster conceivable can be summed up as
>Abloo bloo my favorite character didn't get in
Because, you know, if 100% of the roster doesn't appeal entirely to your own taste then its shit.
She makes the most sense for a new Zelda rep and isn't just one of the Trinity reskinned so yeah, she's up there. HW only upped her popularity.
>Glorious Samus with Prime 2 light Suit.
>Glorious Zero Samus almost naked.
I'm full in.
>Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina aren't grouped with their franchises
>Because, you know, if 100% of the roster doesn't appeal entirely to your own taste then its shit.
you just described how an opinion works ya dingus
>you have to like something that doesn't appeal to you
so tell me, how can the roster of 64 be better than the others' if the characters of 64 are in every other iteration plus more characters?
No game's roster will EVER be as hype as Brawl's.
>Kept you waiting, huh!
>Sorry to keep you waiting!
>I FIGHT FOR MY FRIENDS
The game was ass, but there's a reason why it was one of, if not THE most hyped game of all time.
Obviously it's the best roster. That should be obvious and it isn't that good of a point in the game's favor because it had the previous rosters to easily build on. But in the context of being the fourth game in the series the roster has plenty of disappointments and Brawl's roster was less disappointing for its time. The only major bad thing about Brawl's roster was Mewtwo being cut, and at least it went in the direction of decloning clones into semi-clones. There's no reason Mewtwo shouldn't be back in, there's no reason Ridley shouldn't be in, and there's definitely no reason DK shouldn't have a third character given its popularity and success. Dark Pit is shit. I don't care how little time it took to make him; he wasn't even worth that. If you're going to make clones at least make them clones of characters I'd actually give a shit about instead of a palette swap.
Fortunately they can do DLC now and there can be more additions in the future.
It's relative. The roster of 64 works so well because all of the essential Nintendo franchises are represented and there's no filler. The closest the game comes to having a clone is Luigi, but other than that, everyone is vastly different from one another. Compare the others that have many filler clone characters.
Do you know what happens when a game that sells great in japan doesn't sell great outside of japan?
Its sequel just doesn't get localized instead.
Japan has priority for Nintendo.
oh i get it, you're an autist
if you want to talk shit then go ahead and do that, preferably elsewhere,
but if you're going to make a tier list of rosters, and then besmirch it with your misplaced sense of "what is good, and not"
then you can fuck the hell right off.
its the american way
>that Snake reveal
Nothing will top it, not even the Megaman reveal even though it's also up there as one of the best reveals.
Can't any games just keep their old rosters anymore? What would be so difficult about keeping melees roster in brawl and adding new characters, and then for kerfuffle just take that roster and add more characters? Is there any reason other than laziness to cut characters? Wouldn't it be a better advertisement for your systems hardware (Wii u) if you had every previous character from every smash game plus new ones?
fightinggames do it so the old games don't become obsolete. By rotating the roster rather than updating it they can keep track of balance more easily and helps in not cheapening the franchise in general.
Dude, you can't be serious. Slower Falcon moveset with some bells and whistles thrown in does not an original moveset make. Only TL, Lucina and Dark Pit, who are basically carbon copies of their originators, are worse.
> People are so delusional that they STILL believe there will be character DLC
There will be no character DLC. This is the final roster, and nothing about it will change. Ridley is never going to be playable ever, Mewtwo will never strike back, Ice Climbers are frozen solid, Wolf's playtime is over, Lucas is dead, and Snake lost his once in a life time chance. Dark Pit made it in over them, and there is nothing you can do about that. The moment you saw the ESRB leak, you knew it had to be over. Consider this: hope, is useless. The faster you learn to stop hoping for things, the better you will live your life. If you simply hope for money to fill your wallet, it will never happen. But if you actually work towards filling your wallet, it might. To apply this here: Hope all you want about the fate of this game and who gets in. But it will have no use, because at the end of the day, this is Sakurai's game. Whatever he wills, you will have to either accept or deny.
The arrows from the datamine, and the Ice Climber audience cheers, are simply leftover pieces of data that did not make it into the final release, and never will. Consider this: The earlier builds had the names of the characters underneath their icons. Now, they do not. With the names, that would have taken up more space, and thus, they could have made a second page to fit the rest of the characters. Since they eschewed the names all together, they had no need for the arrows anymore. As for the Ice Climbers, it is possible that the pair could have been playable in development, but due to the limitations of the hardware, they were cut. The audience cheers are just a remnant of what could have been included in the game, but ultimately, did not make it in.
Give up hope. There WILL be no character DLC. Ignoring this only proves your denial further.
Why the fuck is Falco still around, honestly.
He's hardly important to the plot of any of the Star Fox games, and he's way more of a clone than Wolf.
Does anyone even like him? Or did he only become 'popular' because he was a viable alternative to Fox in Melee?
>there's no reason Ridley shouldn't be in,
There's a reason. It rhymes with "doo jig"
As far as actual character selection goes (which this thead is mainly about), the only thing PM has over Smash 4 is is the missing veterans.
As far as newcomers go, if all those rumored PM characters are real (Isaac, Lyn, Sami, Skull Kid and Knuckles lmao) then nah, Smash 4 blows it out of the water.
I don't know man, she's losing relevance with each passing gen. The most exposure she's gotten as of late was in a commercial, and that was her Zelda form. I'd rather Vaati if a second Toon Zelda style character were to get in, or fuck make Toon Link not a clone cause there's no reason for him to be since you could fix up a creative moveset for him with Windwaker alone for reference.
>MFW hope for
>MFW hope for him being in the game is amplified after the "Mom Walks In" stage.
Pic oh so related.
"Too big", mate. As in Sakurai doesn't see Ridley as a plausible or viable choice.
The person I was responding to (unless it was you) was saying "Gah, there's no reason Ridley should of been excluded!" when it's quite obvious that there's a reason: Sakurai doesn't think it's appropriate for him to be that smaller.
And for good reason. Ridley is 99% consistently larger than Samus in just about every game he's been instead for the outdated NES game (retconned by Zero Mission where he's big). The point of that chart I made, by the way, was to show you can't use Olimar or Kirby as a comparison. Dedede is a big bigger than Kirby, and in Smash, that's still the case, despite them both supposedly being smaller than most characters, going by canon. Same thing with Olimar. He's supposed to be the size of a quarter, sure, but in the context of the Pikmin games he's the normal sized, playable character, whilst bulborbs and such share the same role as Ridley (ie giant bosses). In other words, a bulborb and Olimar are small, yes, but the bulborb still towers over him, and even when they're scaled up in Smash, this is still the case.
>Sakurai directly states that if he thinks of something he would like in the game, he would add it as DLC.
My money is ready anyway. Do your worst Sakurai, and I'll do mine!
He isn't too big. Ganondorf is already scaled down from how large he was in TP. And with his Other M design looks fine proportionally with Samus when scaled down to around Bowser's size. On top of that we know that Ridley is already a manlet based on the shadow we saw from the direct. It doesn't fucking matter at all.
Project M with the 5 unadded characters is EASILY superior to 4's roster.
The gist of these newcomers, not counting the 3rd party and Retro duos, are SUPER SUPER recent fad characters, or non-iconic B-listers.
>in 2 years tops all the kiddies will have moved on and no one will care about these shitty character
if someone told me he prefers brawl because its the only one where he can play as snake, i wouldn't bat an eye
the same isn't true for mii fighters
Listen here you degenerate. It's English from a different era. If you think people spoke English the same way in the past as they do the present than you need to go back to middle school.
People didn't say "Hey yo, that shit is tight" in the 1940s.
The guy you're responding to is right. You're wrong.
>or non-iconic B-listers.
So Lyn, Isaac, Sami, and Skull Kid then.
I don't agree with everything Sakurai does, but sometimes I wonder if people just praise PM just because it's PM, and shit on Sakurai just because he's Sakurai.
Yeah, this anon gets it. Aside from the 3rd party reps, Mac and to an extent Shulk (leak lessened this) there have been very few hype generating characters. I've grown to love Wii Fit and Robin's great, but the rest feel kind of tertiary and unimportant in the long run.
I get what you're saying but the same isn't true for Lucas or Wolf either.
Megaman and Pacman, and Duck Hunt dog to some extent, are pretty special, despite how well they play.
>Shulk is in a row by himself with the third parties despite the fact that Nintendo owns him just as much as they do Kirby and Pikachu
>Yoshi is in the middle of the Mario characters
>Clones get their own corner and aren't with their series
>A bunch of ugly empty gray space for no reason whatsoever on the character select screen
>I love FE
>I love KI
>I love Mario
>Lucas and Wolf were shit
>Ice Climbers were shit and I never played them
>I played snake once and I hated him
>who cares about the Gen 1 starters
>I'm fine with DK and Diddy
>I'm happy with Metroid reps
>Ganondorf thing is shitty
>Bowser Jr being a new villain is awesome stop complaining that you didn't get more
Good thing all my heavily requested characters made the cut except for Skull Kid.
Well, you're always going to anger some people right. You can't please everybody.
I guess I'm in the minority but I'm going to miss Pokemon trainer, a lot.
Even though it was clunky, I enjoyed switching between the playstyles on the fly.
Most of all I'm going to miss Ivysaur. Bulbasaur is my favorite pokemon ever and it was pretty special to play as his evolution. Squirtle as well to some extent.
>Using subjective opinions to justify a shit roster
Well it has the most obviously, but it takes a hit by missing snake, lucas, wolf, mewtwo, and ice climbers. It has a few really good additions but it's clones are the worst out of any game. I'd say brawl is the best even if its the worst smash gameplay wise
What I don't like is the lack of actual "Nintendo allstars"
Like, Brawl added super well known and important characters like DeDeDe, Diddy Kong, Olimar, Wario, ect.
Non of these characters were from some super duper recent game, except maybe Lucario.
They were all very well established Nintendo characters that where also super reconisable.
Anon brace yourself but I don't think you understand the difference between subjective and objective.
For starters, can you define what an opinion is? We'll take this slow, for you.
What I wished people would realize is that there's no real big, important character to add like Wario and Dedede.
And quite frankly, characters like K. Rool (currently) and Isaac aren't as big as people claim they are.
There are a finite amount of "allstars" left until you get to the point where it gets arguable.
I would consider Toad an allstar.
I would not consider Daisy Kong an allstar, nor would I K.Rool.
If you think any of these characters should be in smash for any reason then you are pure cancer
Have fun with Dark Pit and Lucina. You will, because you eat anything Sakurai shits out.
They have plenty of Dedede/Wario level characters.
Fuck, a perfect one for this game would've been Cranky Kong. He's had a recent game, and has a pretty good history. Not to mention how original he would been.
>first staff user
>first old person character
>people have been saying how lacking this game is in DK content
And I just got that off the top of my head.
In the Smash series, he's always been his own representative though. He's got his own emblem and his own victory theme. He's there to represent the Yoshi games, not the Mario ones.
I have no problem with Mewtwo and I think he should of come back. K. Rool's problem is that he hasn't been the villain of any important DK game in awhile. Have Retro put him in their next Expand Dong title and then we'll talk.
I'd say importance has mattered to a degree, when it comes to including new series at the very least. Sakurai tends to avoid choosing the C-to-D tier second party developed series like Custom Robo and what not and goes more the more notable and iconic series like Punch-Out!! and Duck Hunt. Even the seemingly most minor IPs in Smash serve a purpose (Ice Climbers, for example, were chosen by Sakurai himself to represent the one off NES "Action Series" games that predated Super Mario Bros).
>this whole thread
>DARK PIT LUCINA DARK PIT LUCINA DARK PIT LUCINA DARK PIT LUCINA LITERALLY WHO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH
I can only hope that these autists are turned away from buying the game.
You clearly fucking stated you were satisfied by the roster, so evidently you'd eat Sakurai's shit if he asked you to, just like all of his other mindless drones on /v/.
>Lucario deserves a spot over Mewtwo
So you're not actually a fan of Pokemon, huh?
Lucario is the fucking worst. He's been thrown around everywhere since gen 4. The only people who like him are furfags, autists, and edgy kiddies who legitimately thought his mega looked cool.
I don't even particularly like Mewtwo either. Lucario just a shit.
Nah, Sheik as her own character is okay. We're basically just having two Zeldas like we have two Links, except they actually play different from each other.
Having Twilight Princess Zelda turn into a disguise OoT Zelda used was much dumber.
>Lightning has no reason to be in other than being a lightning
Or to represent Nintendo's most critically acclaimed games ever.
It does have the best roster, but it could be a lot better if it weren't for the stupid decisions it also has.
I'm not a fan of playable Pokémon because they're just like random koopas and goombas to me and the pokeball item already exists.
But I like Greninja because he fills the ninja niche that fits well into Smash. (No, Sheik isn't a ninja, just a general assassin type)
Whats wrong with the roster well lets look
> Diddy Kong (personal choice I hate the little fuck)
>Bowser Jr. AND WARRIOR RIGHT NEXT DOOR They are most likely both going to be rather slow but heavy hitters, not as slow as bowser and DK but not as strong just another reskin and a mario one at that.
>Zelda and Shiek, separate looks like Im never choosing her again.
>Samus and nude Samus, separate uhm why?
>Marth and Chrom? Drop Marth he's had his time in the sun and chrom is only slightly different which will be made up for with Robin
>Lucario, still? Why?
>Jigglypuff, I know its grandfathered in but if Im picking a perfect roster im not adding in anything that had no competitive potential.
>Dr. Mario Should have been an alternate skin to mario
>If thats dark pitt just give give pit a weapon set switch drop the new character
>Lucindia, in the same game with marth chrom and robin? Drop Marth and Lucindia.
>Dont know blonde guy
>PacMan no thanks sounds as bad as sanic was.
>Sonic fuck him, he runs around the field and annoys the piss out of me.
>Mii fighters, because pushing Wii's is fun!
I like melee but that's the last one I still have after I got burglarized.
>there will never be a roster this good
well, rosalina's moveset is inspired by various mario galaxy mechanics (luma partner, star bits, the cursor, launch star) and her victory theme is taken from galaxy's title screen, and her trailer had gusty garden playing as like her motif. mario doesn't have any of that.
you tell me.
I don't mind that you shit on Mewtwo, even though his exclusion in this entry was my biggest disappointment with it. I don't mind that you're defending Lucario, even if he is one of the lamest Pokemon, since they are trying to make him important. But where the fuck do you get off pissing on a god damn fire dragon? Charizard is a badass and he will never stop being a badass.
I'm gonna tell you that she's another forced popularity character that has no business taking her own slot. She'd be a fine assist trophy. And no, I don't want waluigi or daisy in her place. Mario has enough fucking reps. Paper mario wouldn't be terrible though
>People still dont get why Doc Mario is in.
God you people are fucking retarded.
He's in so you can play as the old mario moveset, and the new mario moveset.
Also, Dr Mario is bigger than mario in the pro scene, so he is trying to make everyone happy.
Shiek is so a ninja
Greninja frustrates me because Pokemon is like the ONE Nintendo franchise where Sakurai can easily get a super creatively shaped character.
Instead, he picked the one, ONE Pokemon that most resembled Lucario, and brought NOTHING new to smash, concept wise.
>we've already had a starter
>we've already had a water starter
>we've already had a third form starter
>we've already had a frog based starter
>we've already had a blue humanoid martial artist
>we've already had a ninja character
>hell, we've even already had tounge based attacks.
You know what we haven't had? A wrestler character OR a bird character
He doesn't feel enough like snes diddy kong. he's all N64. DKC > other donkey kong games
>sheik and zelda separate
>samus and zero suit samus separate
>no more pokemon trainer
why? for balance? no, because 3DS can't fucking handle it
>no ice climbers
because 3DS can't fucking handle it
>worst version of ganondorf
>5 pokemon reps and none of them are mewtwo
>duck hunt dog
nobody wanted this
nobody wanted this
>sonic stays, snake goes
>no attempt to unclone clones
>dr mario back for no fucking reason at all
You know what's funny? I fucking despise Gen 6, and think everything about it is ugly as shit.
But that wrestler bird would've been a completely original and refreshing as Fuck
No it's not minor. Not everyone has to love every addition t the roster.
Once again, you're all bent out of shape people have an opinion you don't. I hope YOU don't buy Smash, because you're an ignorant toolbag. But I'm sure you will, Sakurai cocksucker.
If the same people complain about the whole roster you'd be just as mad about it. You can't handle people voicing concerns about your precious little game because you're a 10 year old child.
Grow the fuck up, no one is "running around stomping their feet like it's the end of the world" except you.
Nigga that's arbitrary as hell. Where do you draw the line that says it's okay to criticize the roster? Three clones? Five? Ten? Twenty?
If nobody complains then they're going to keep doing it.
>ganondorf will never be in smash because it was decided he should be a clone two games ago
>Jigglypuff and Charizard are boring as shit
I'll give you Jigglypuff, a lazy re-implementation of kirby assets onto a forgettable character that clearly overstayed her welcome. But Charizard is, barring Pikachu, the best Gen 1 Rep i can think of: Recognizable, Loved and with a Fighter build and shape that isn't seen often in Smash.
Most of my favorite pokemon are from recent gens and i can safely tell you that Lucario a shit.
>U onle haet him cus hes pop-
I like Charizard, one of the most normalfag pokemon in the world, a pokemon that actually got big without a "proper" push.
The GF Charizard dick-sucking started in gen VI, they didn't care as much for him before.Lucario is right besides Blaziken as a forgettable pokemon that Sugimori just wouldn't let go unnoticed because he designed it. It is pure eye-cancer.
Greninja i'm ok with because it is a genuine case of Charizard 2.0: No official GameFreak push, yet became the second most popular starter of all time. I'm glad Sakurai and his team actually had the chance to choose the pokemon they liked best instead of being FORCED to implement Ken's shiny new Fucktoy.
A good balanced pokemon roster would consist of
Pikachu and Charizard for Gen I Reps. Arguably Mewtwo could fit, but i believe Gen I would already be oversaturated.
A middleground Gen III rep, whether it's Gardevoir, Blaziken or
HopefullySableye, it'd be a nice way to promote ORAS too.
And Greninja for New gen rep.
There; 4-5 pokemon that balance out the fact that there's more than just 1 generation.
nigga, when i think of the first 4 zelda characters, it's Link, Zelda, Ganon, and then FUCKING TINGLE
there's no need for another rep, we have the full goddamn triforce now
>3 games with ganondorf, one of the most iconic villains in gaming history
>still a copy of a moveset that was purely made up for a worthless unimportant character
It's insulting honestly. I don't even want him to use his sword because it isn't WW dorf, but goddamn I'm sick of him being a copy of Falcon. Seriously. I'm SICK of that shit.
He could have so many unique moves to him.
I'd say Melee had the best roster if Brawl's newcomers weren't so great.
If Brawl kept Mewtwo instead of bringing in Lucario, Brawl would have the best roster.
4's got some excellent newcomers, but some really stupid ones, too. The entire top row is Mario characters, Dark Pit and Dr. Mario are ridiculous when they're bringing in alt-skin characters. Greninja is random, and Lucas shouldn't have been cut.
>we've already had a frog based starter
>jigglepuff is a staple and needs to stay
What a damn stupid argument.
>Damn HDTV's! What we really should get are Analog B&W tv's! They were the forefathers so they don't deserve to go.
Jigglypuff was lazy shit since its inception. It needs to go.
Greninja isn't random. He's the most popular 6th gen starter by far. Hell, he might even be the most popular 6th gen Pokemon, period. Can't think of any other that comes close.
If you knew fucking anything you'd know that jigglypuff was one of the most popular pokemon, she was as big as pikachu and was considered a mascot for pokemon. Your comparison is retarded and she's one of the originals so she's not going anywhere whether you like it or not
> People actually hated Lucas
Damn he was my main and he got cut. I really enjoyed playing as him he was so much more fun to use than anyone else
>there will never be an OoT ganondorf in smash who actually behaves like the real thing
I wonder what the roster would look like if /v/ tried to make their own Smash Bros.
Mario didn't need another rep, but if it had to have one, it should have been this guy
Super robot wars smash when
I want to use my giant robot to knock other giant robots out of the galaxy
>Toon Link shit
Clones are like that
>Greninja and Lucario shit
I'm guessing you wanted Mewtwo in huh
>Dr. Mario shit
>Dark Pit shit
Well she IS a Marth clone so...
They're just as jarring in this as Wii Fit Trainer though
>Pac-Man doesn't belong
I guess he didn't belong in the Mario Kart arcade game Namco made too, huh because third party characters making cameos has never been a thing after all
3/8 - You tried
Dark pit i understand but I don't see any issue with zelda and shiek being seperate, most just picked one or the other. And now each character is better off. Metaknight was a piece of shit in brawl but that doesn't mean he should be off the roster
Dr. Mario is just such a great retro clone, I wish people didn't hate that he returned.
Yeah, I know it sucks Mewtwo isn't back.
I know it sucks Ice Climbers are gone...Lucas...Snake...Pokemon Trainer...
But don't take it out on Dr. Mario...
He's not the bad guy here, that's Dark Pit.
>You have ten seconds to explain why this isn't the best roster of any Smash game.
It cut a few well-beloved characters, some of which are better Luigified clones than the clones we have now.
Every new roster is an overall improvement because it adds more unique characters to the existing roster while cutting only a few. Saying it's the best is meaningless because it's like saying the 2014 Toyota Camry is the best Toyota Camry.
>You have ten seconds to explain why this isn't the best roster of any Smash game.
It might still be simply because it's got most of Brawl's roster and more, but the newcomers are a bunch of literally whos compared to the characters that were added in Brawl. Scarcely any of the new characters are really what I'd call essential and most of them weren't requested at all. Not saying that I mind most of the newcomers, but if the next game came out and some of them didn't make the cut I probably wouldn't give a shit.
All of those characters are more well known than Shulk, more well liked than Bowser Jr., and were more well recieved than Dr. Mario. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
>worthless unimportant character
The protagonist of a game is less important than the rehashed villain of a series?
Mhmmmmm fuck off.
But they put Pit in because they were intending to make Uprising. In order to know who Palutena is you pretty much have to know who Pit is.
The ordering irks me, is this not slightly better?
>There are people who STILL think this "leak" is real
This is actually the reason I am not buying this game.
But as I said before I will consider the Wii U version once I get to see how it looks. So far putting the game on the 3DS ruined it from content to gameplay.
sakurai apologists must be cackling at you like ridleyfags
As much as I hate Brawl, I agree the roster had a lot of strength with its newcomers. Perhaps too much strength. And your post in general?
100% agreed. Fuck Sakurai.
>Mewtwo, Ridley, Dixie, Impa, Isaac, an AW rep, K. Rool
Holy fucking shit, /v/ is fucking delusional. The average smash player won't even be able to tell you who any of those characters are except Mewtwo. They're not going to add insignificant and irrelevant characters to the game just because an extremely small minority of neckbeards and autists wants them in.
>lucas starter in brawl
>sold 15+ million
>mother 3 sold 0.50 million in japan
>Xenobldae didn't make it past 0.20 in japan
>Mother was never a popular series in america anyway.
It only has a cult following and Mother 3 was never localized. I can understand easily why they decided to cut him. However, Mother is far more popular overseas than it is in Japan, especially if we're talking about Mother 3.
Awekening sold more in japan, and most everyone went literal who? with him and some with lucina
this coming from robinfag
Brawl really did make the roster feel more well rounded. Mother, DK, Metroid, Star Fox, and Kirby series finally got more reps. All clones were made more unique. The dropped characters made some sense as to why they were gone.
Smash 4 is just more inconsistent with the 3DS roster. The newcomers that aren't clones are pretty ace, but the roster feels more lopsided than ever. Full blown clones are back and the logic between alts and clones is unclear. Alph and Koopa Kids are just alternate character costumes, so what makes Lucina, Dark Pitt, and Dr. Mario so special to get different properties on their movesets? It just pads their rep count on top of already getting new characters while series like Mother and Starfox lose the reps that rounded them out better in Brawl.
lol all of the samefagging in response to this post
lol burying this roster for not putting in Ridley / K. Rool / Dixie when none of the other games have them either
lol at implying an AW rep is "heavily requested" compared to characters that actually got in like MegaMan and Mac
it is technically the best roster but thanks to the time constraints and lack of a delay we could have had so much fucking more
7 characters got cut and we have no clue if character dlc is a real thing
Literally all of Lucas' moves were different from Ness' besides his specials, forward smash, and final smash, a fraction of his full moveset
I understand that these moves make up most of what your average smash player actually uses, but that's irrelevant.
>DK & Diddy way more popular than KI shit despite Sakurai pushing his own characters so hard
Even now there is hope for kong.
The clones bring it down, even moreso when you realise they could have easily just been Alt costumes.
Otherwise, I'm fine with it
Of all of those characters, Ice Climbers is the only one who have had Sakurai straight up come out and explain in detail why they were cut. In the time they had, they couldn't get the Ice Climbers to run because Smash is pushing the 3DS to its limits as it, and allowing the possibility to have 8 functioning CPUs on screen wasn't feasible. Ice Climbers were working on the Wii U, but they wanted roster parity. Theoretically, they could have managed to get the Ice Climbers working on the 3DS version but there wasn't enough time and they weren't considered high priority because of how irrelevant they are.
Brawl roster was perfection in almost every aspect, almost no clones and exelent aditions for smash, then 4 got those 3 horrible aditions that are the worst shit in a smash made without rushing. Then melee had such a shit roster, fuck, the only good aditions were Falco, Peach, Bowser, Marth, Ice Climbers, MGaW, Ganon, Mewtwo and Zelda/Sheik, and I had to include clones that were not just absolute shit.
oh man, i forgot about mike jones fags. i never want to be an asshole about people begging for characters, but holy shit, i am so happy every one of those literally who fuckers got BTFO. id rather have fuckin dark pit than mike jones.
