Monster Hunter 3U
I've played over 200 hours of it, and it's still entertaining as fuck.
How come you bought a 2DS instead of a 3DS or 3DS XL? Just curious.

Monster Hunter. It's the only thing of note the 3DS has.

What's this series about?

I wanted something ergonomic. The 2DS in combination with the 2DS trigger grips case is very comfortable for long sessions.

Turn based RPGs that take a couple of different forms, mainly as a dungeon crawler, with Devil Survivor as an offshoot as a SRPG.
You recruit and fuse together a bunch of demons that are based off of mythological and religious concepts, and they are your party members throughout the games. The stories have branching endings/paths that take the form of Law/Neutral/Chaos decisions, often having several of your friends dead by the end.

Does a 2ds feel good in the hands? Do the buttons being so high up cause any issues?

It is the most ergonomic of three, in my opinion. The button placement up high makes sense if you are used to playing games with a controller especially if you get one of these:

Had I known that existed, I would have.
