Thief 1.
In the crypt level, bonehoard thing, at some point there is a burning man running really fast toward you. That's the only time a game really startled me, and the feeling lasted several seconds, even when the "scarejump" of him starting to run toward me was over. I had to pause the game, take a breath, and then continue.

where is it from?
why do i want to play it's game so much?
>>

There was a sound that would play if you had Timeplspliters 2 paused for too long. It sounded like a monk chanting, with a long low voice.
Shit was spooky.

Ace Attorney 3, finishing it, realising Iris would never be real.

Pathologic probably, meeting the Albino in Bachellor's scenario.
It's very difficult to explain how they have achieved that, but it's a master moment in videogames.

IPL are generally very good at this. Similarly strong moments can be found in The Void and Knock-Knock as well.

Also, the Staircase of Fire scene in Silent Hill 2.

It is certainly a diamond in a very dirt, immature and stupid pit man. Literally one of the top 5.
>>
>>263916754

P.T.
I have always used to be a fan of horror games.
But recently, my nerves have become more weaker than before.
I used to play horror games like Silent Hill 2 and 3 alone in the dark and enjoying being scared.
The SH2 hospital and the mirror room in SH3 freaked me out.
Homecoming and Downpour was Meh.

Sadly, I become more scared easierly lately, which is a sham I guess. I don't know why my nerves has become as weak as they are now. Me, or just the graphic become more realistic.
>>
>>263919749
I'd love a Stalker-like game of that.

You're in this fortress with this insane mad scientist who experiments on living creatures, the whole area is you fighting his various fucked up monstrosities, and then towards the end you run across these creatures from out of the blue, they were this guys' parents, and they are fucking fucked up, look at them, it looks like the guy was cutting up various creatures and sewing them back together, so you fight them in a really hard pitched battle and then out of the blue they like wake up, the colors change and music gets really quiet, and they stop fighting and start talking to you. They say they are so sorry, but they are no longer human and then they say they love you and kill themselves.

Back when SNES was like the pinnacle of graphics, and nobody knew about this scene before playing it, (and being a kid) that shit hit me real hard.

Rule of Rose is the most a game ever disturbed me because it's like a real life horror story.
No ghosts or monsters that you know could never actually get you. It's a totally twisted recollection of half-truths about bullying and abuse. Having your dog beaten to death, being buried alive, being stuffed into a bag with horrible insects, the sexual abuse, and psychopath caretaker. If there was a "Based on a true story" sticker on the box it wouldn't seem out of place.

Believe it or not, that beginning and reveal scene at the beginning of Wolfenstein: The New Order, where you learn what actually happened when B.J. did the inhale, exhale thing.

My parents never let me play rated T games till I was 13, or M games till I was 17 with few exceptions. Same deal with movies. Needless to say, I was very sheltered.

>>
>>263942037
To deal with the PTSD. At that point in the game however Deathhead makes you pick a character to sacrifice his brain for his Nazi science, both characters were at that point well received and developed, so it was hard. In the beginning of the game, it just cuts to black, but at the end of the game the final boss is actually the person you picked brain inside of a robot complete with dialogue that says shit like "kill me", and the ending scene actually shows in brutality the procedure used to get the person you choses' brain.

I can't really get into horror games, they aren't really scary to me. I the most disturbing stuff is like extensive body horror where the person is still alive and they fully realize what happened to them. That's always interesting and there are many way you could go with that.

I accidentally got Silent Hill 4 when trying to dowload GTA San Andreas from DC++. The whole thing about a kid being abandoned in his home and growing up to believe that an apartment was his mother was pretty disturbing. Not to mention that he tried to "wake up" his mother with a ritual of sacrificing 21 people. And when the superintendent mumbled about the umbilical cord he had kept for some reason starting to smell, I was all ewwkay? I could almost smell that shit when I got to the super's room.

Needless to say I got the rest of the SH series after that. That's how I ended up playing the series basically in the order from worst to best.

It's quite the sad thing.

Let's say you have a masterpiece of horror. It's the scariest piece of fiction ever conceived.

But the problem nobody will want to read it because it's too scary.

It caught me off guard, and looking into it online didn't help. It may look goofy and stuff, but that is a secret official ending to the first game. That means, in an alternate branch of the game, that Fox disappears without a trace to his friends and instead dies alone in an entirely different dimension populated by living paper planes and rapeface planets.

I don't know what it is about Outer Wilds, but it gives me some heavy feels when I play it.

>Your entire species lives tightly knit in a single crater on a planet
>Your character has always longed to be an astronaut
>Finally gets to fulfill his dreams and see beyond the crater
>On his very first voyage, Brittle Hollow collapses in on itself, the Nomad crashes into Dark Bramble, and the sun explodes

The soundtrack for this game really helps set the mood, too.

I don't have the stomach to play Manhunt, which bothers me because it seem like an interesting series.
>>
It wasn't really disturbing, but it gave me a sense of dread that I never get from games.

In SCP containment breach, I had always feared the 'Old Man' because of the way he slowly walks after you with that drum beat playing. Reading all the details on him also made him seem like something that was truly evil. That's why I was afraid of him, not his appearance but instead the story behind him.

I eventually stumbled into a room with a heavily locked door and a sign that said it led to his containment cell. With a picture of his grinning face staring at me from the sign I first thought to just leave, but curiosity eventually caused me to enter his 'home'.

When I stepped inside I was on a balcony overlooking a massive room, so gigantic that the corners of it were hidden by darkness. In the centre was that giant ominous cube, surrounded by an electric fence and levitating quietly above the ground. I found a path that led me down to the ground level floor, and seeing the cube up close, where the Old Man hibernated, gave me some sort of uneasy feeling. Like the place was evil, and I wasn't supposed to be there - I've never felt something like that from a video game before.

I was filled with dread, so I turned to sprint out of the room. I didn't hear the drumbeat playing, I guess, because when I turned to leave the Old Man was returning to his home.

For such a low budget game, I didn't think it would do things like that to me.

Also sorry about writing a fucking novel, I don't know what I'm doing really

Help me out here, there's this game that I'm not sure is even out yet but I need to know the name so I can keep track.
I've only seen webms of it. It appeared to take place underwater but for some reason I keep thinking it might have been in space.. I think it was in first person, or maybe it wasn't, but it was showing a clip of floating through water or space when this big creepy thing that looked like a sea monster slowly floated by. It actually looked a lot like that outer wilds thing posted earlier.
Another webm, and I'm not even sure if it's from the same game, had to be underwater. I think it might have been in third-person. There was a radar going so you could see in the dark, and it showed a sunken ship. Then the ship appeared to grow legs, and it seemed as if there was a giant enemy crab-like creature was using the thing as a shell.

Shalebridge Cradle from thief 3 was pretty terrifying as a teenager. It doesn't jump scare you or anything rather you have a horrible sense of dread the entire time.

Another one was arx fatalis and the black beast. I don't think I've ever been more terrified of a creature in a game. Then when you finally kill it after much hardship and panic attacks and you get a small breather, another one crashes through the wall. Nearly shit my pants.
>>
>>263984681
>Shalebridge Cradle from thief 3 was pretty terrifying as a teenager. It doesn't jump scare you or anything rather you have a horrible sense of dread the entire time.

The problem with the Cradle is that the enemies are too vulnerable and there are too few of them. Plus after just a short time of playing, no part of the ambience could be mistaken for something that is actually dangerous to the player, it's just a vaguely creepy background soundtrack. The way you could create horror with real tension would be that you could never know if there are still monsters around. At least the lights don't stop flickering if one of them dies near a light, to give you that one extra moment of uncertainty.

Condemned is a game where you have body awareness and you can see your own shadow. One time there was a glitch in the shadow mesh, and when I walked behind a wall into a dark area, the body cut out a bright area from the shadow, with the exception of the eyes. There was a bright anti-shadow of a humanoid form, with dark circles where its eyes should be.

I took a screenshot but I don't have it on this PC. This is a recreation in MS Paint.

First time in the basement and first time reading the doctors notes were the best moments in the game, I've never played a horror game that revealed stuff as well as Scratches did. Lackluster mechanics is understating it a little though-

I can't remember exactly what game it was but it was an old old pc game i had as a kid. Basically this bully steals this poor kids cat and takes it away. Obviously the kid is devastated. Have to go on this long ass quest involving monsters and shit. I think to myself. No kid should EVERY have to go through this. I was 8. Next day the family down the street asks everyone in the neighborhood to help search for their lost cat. Im walking to school with dad and i overhear them talking. Walk past bushes and hear giggling. See some asshat 10ish year old fucking around with the car previously mentioned. He was penduluming it by the tail. Obviously im mad so i pick up a nearby piece of glass from the road and stick it in a snowball and whip it at the kid. It hits him square in the eye. He's screaming and flailing with blood starting to show. He runs into the road in a panic and some care hits him. Everyone asks what happened. I say the cat scratched him and he ran into the road. I met him later in highschool. Huge scar on his head from a steel plate, missing leg amputated after crash, missing right eye, face is fucked, one of his hands is destroyed. I realized i caused this. I still felt he deserved it. A childish mistake on both our parts mixed with childhood justice was tinted by a videogame to make me feel proud for destroying somebodies life before it ever really started. I still feel he deserved it.

Speaking of SCP, I actually really wanted to make an SCP game at one point, a little like prison architect but you gotta build your own facility and ship in D class. Your facility must be secure and secret, but you've also gotta be able to find new....things, and experiment on them, so you gotta find a middle ground.

I contacted the admin about it, asking if I could do it commercially (I wish I had the time not to, but I am just one man), even if I split the money, and he just laughed at me. Shame

Honestly, Hotline Miami can be pretty intense. When I finished the game, I just raised my hands from the keyboard and the mouse and noticed that I was visibly shaking.

the most unnerved ive felt playing vidyo was when i was able to get worlds to work on my computer properly. i dont think that it was intentionally scary but all those empty and abandoned player created worlds with 404'd jpeg pictures and death memorials in a once supposedly active community was very eerie.

Worlds is a digital ghost town, simple as that.

Doesn't help that some of the regulars have rather kinky sexual fantasies (one guy reportedly found an entire gallery full of ball-busting pictures, but he was ported back to Ground Zero and the gallery either removed or access to it blocked).

Me myself, I merely found what appears to be some kind of Domina shop. Even got a screenshot of the entrance, but not on this PC.

Perhaps even more disturbing are the "tomb worlds" of deceased community members you can find.

I'm a fan of Breath of Fire games but I always hated how sad they get towards the end.

Breath of Fire 4 was my first game, I considered it pretty light hearted and overall cheerful but then the entire scene with Nina's sister popped out, I was not prepared for that. That entire scene made me sick, the entire cheerful image of this game collapsed. I was mildy sick for the rest of the game.

also that fucker that turned Nina's sister into a monster never got punished, I was mad beyond comprehension

Sorry for semi-late reply;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNsdOR3zbpc&list=PL21B2FE7E57494E24

His voice isn't annoying and even though he's playing blind he really gets into the game and plays it better than a lot of other 'blind players' do. There's a few that play it going in knowing what to expect and it really takes the fun out of it (not to mention those playthroughs had neckbeard breathing narrations..)
>>
>>264002124

Just make up your own shit, no need to rip straight off, just be inspired by it (that is, change the names and colours and shit).
>>
>>264007219
Anyone have the comic with /v/ and /vr/ playing postal?

Also do you think a remake is in order? Psychological horror third person shooter where you commit horrible deeds and shit all the while being haunted by horrible imagery and shit.
>>
>>264008147

Holy shit that voice is relaxing and fitting for this game.

>>264008469
I doubt that Postal 1 would get a remake due to controversy.
Postal 2 has a a new expansion coming up.
>>
>>264009038
Probably because they realized they could get away with over the top crazy violence then a game that by todays standard seems like it was ripped right from a creepypasta or some shit.
>>
I questioned my sexuality after playing Mass Effect 3.
>>
>>264009038
Because postal was meant to be as offensive as possible turns out murdering gary colemen to make his blood rare then using a cat to silence an m16 is more offensive then kill kids and satanic imagery.

I was raised on horror. Movies, books, games. I live for that shit.

P.T. is disturbing. Something about walking that hallway over and over again, having to focus on little details. And then walking around that corner and seeing her just STANDING there.

I still don't know if I want to play the full game when it hits. Like, I want to. But I think I might need to work on heart health shit first
