So this game is kinda fun and all, but what the fuck is the deal with the story? What am I supposed to even care about?
The game kinda just throws you into this big open world and expects you to know about the "Darkness" and "The Hive". T
he narration feels like a sequel to another game that we were supposed to play before this one
it's a fun game, but they really dropped the ball on a lot of key game aspects like story and pvp balance. i hope it gets better as they release the rest of the game i payed for but didn't get but it needs a lot of work.
>i hope it gets better as they release the rest of the game i payed for but didn't get but it needs a lot of work.
Full game was released. Stop being a faggot and just wait for additional content.
>I don’t even have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain
>A side must always be chosen, little light. Even if it's the wrong side.
I prefer games like that. Maybe that's why I prefer FF13 compared to all the other ones. It's fucking stupid where games like FF10 and 12 to shove in fucking retarded characters for the soul purpose of explaining everything to your face.
If you care about the story, read the extra stuff. What's a l'Cie? Dunno, BETTER FUCKING READ ABOUT IT IN THE GAME.
The lore cards for Destiny are awesome. I didn't even pick up there was different factions in the races.
>over 180 nominees and awards before release
>maybe 2 or 3 after release
Darkness is to enemy races what Traveler is to friendly races. It's not that hard.
You've got (not)elites taking over earth, zombies taking over the moon, robots taking over venus, and ogres taking over Mars. Again, not that hard.
You don't need to know everything about what the enemies are, where they come from, and their motivations--you're just a soldier trying to halt their advance across the solar system. The problem with this is the dialogue would have you believe otherwise. The story presents you as a special guardian, as the one that is gonna change everything and once and for all drive the enemy back. The story makes it feel like you're supposed to me more connected to the events transpiring than you actually are.
This game would have been much better served with a story that doesn't make your character a snowflake.
Pretty much this. For a site that shits on shoving stuff down your face, /v/ sure loves things being spoon fed to them. I'm starting to think everything that they know about the Souls game is just them parroting someone else.
>Guardian in the dark, Fallen in the light, this was the last time they spoke as friends
I feel like that's lazy though, if you're gonna make a game that you claim is super vast and deep fucking add a decent enough story too.
I fucking hate the fact all the lore is put onto cards and on Bungie's website
Except when Bungie is literally fucking saying that they want to put Destiny on the same shelf as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings you'd think the story would be a bit more prominent
They attempted a dark souls type story in which you have a mysterious world you discover and find out, however, they basically assume you go online to find out shit about the other races. That is the biggest fault to the game. If the story was developed it would easily be a 9/10, but I lower it to a 8 or 7.5 due to me enjoying the world and gameplay a lot. Despite the repetitiveness it is really fun fighting enemies
>even close to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings
>even thinking people will care about Destiny at all after the next big AAA halo whatever comes out
Bungie confirmed for retards. They got lucky and made a generic shooter that played well. You shouldnt have an ego like that
Nah, the problem is they didn't commit to one type of storytelling or the other. They want the world to be mysterious, but they want your character to be super-important in it. You can't have an important character that doesn't actually get to be part of anything really important that happens in shaping a world's state.
They tell you you're an important soldier but you really only end up doing grunt work. I don't really know how else to explain what I'm getting at with this...
My biggest gripe is the weapon selection. It's pathetic. And no melee weapons? (except the temporary mission one) I mean, the game is fun and all but I'm two planets in and I feel like I've seen it all already.
A bajillion dollars in development and the best they can come up with is three rifles, a sniper, a magnum, a shotgun, a machine gun, and a rocket launcher? The only somewhat interesting weapon is the fusion rifle, and that's only just barely.
Here is how I see it, the first half of the game you are living the life of a basic guardian doing normal tasks all guardians do, until one day you discover some serious shit, then you are on your own and stopping a great evil. That is sum of it.
Now what they should do is explore the lore more. Have NPCs, cutscenes, your ghost explaining more. The ghost only says a comment here and there explaining the world, and I wanted more.
There's four types of enemies.
Each one has 4-5 enemies within their type.
Bosses are all just larger versions of the regular enemy types.
It's a lot like Borderlands 1 variety.
As in, there is none.
>the first half you do normal shit
After the second mission you're taken to some fuckfaces office and told that you're the special snowflake that must save the world. If you fall, so will humanity. Theres more than 4 missions. You're full of shit.
No you are not. He says you are a guardian and fight for humanity. What the fuck are you talking about? The snowflake shit comes int he second half after you discovered "the garden." You are talking like you played 43 minutes and rate the story
That's one of my main gripes too, the lack of weapon variety.
>Main Weapons: Auto Rifles, Scout Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons
>Special Weapons: Shotguns, Fusion Rifles, Sniper Rifles
>Heavy Weapons: Rocket Launchers, Light Machine Guns
Literally 9 types of gun in this game. What the fuck happened to the company that gave us great shit like the Needler, Energy Sword, Beam Rifle, Spartan Laser, etc.?
captcha was 666 so Bungie is the devil
Wow thats kinda disappointing
I was hoping there was a very broad variety of enemies considering you were going to different planets and everything. It would make for some pretty cool variety if every planet has its own distinct enemy types and whatnot. Oh well
Thanks for the answer anon
Punch punch or punch. All with slightly different secondary effects. Sweet.
I'm glad that I bought the bundle just to get the white PS4, with Destiny as a bonus thing to keep me busy. Or I would be feeling serious buyers remorse.
In literally the second mission you are told "Wow, you killed that super-sized Fallen. He was super important. This is unprecedented. You must be really special." Then you talk to the Speaker and the ghost says "I knew there was a reason I found you. You're special."
>every cod has more weapon variety than a scifi fps from 2014
Planets can be broken down to two enemy groups each.
Earth is Fallen and Hive.
Moon is Fallen and Hive.
Venus is Fallen and Vex.
Mars is Vex and Cabal.
I would have definitely liked more enemies and more enemy subtypes.
They totally cut corners with enemy variety.
Bungie is not trying to smash retarded story down your throat every five minutes like current gen games.
I am surprised that people haven't figured out that this is what they did with ODST and reach.
I disagree because I like how the enemies vary with each race. The hive loves to charge at me and fuck me up with melee, meanwhile the fallen is a good balance of both, and the Vex is mostly range until you blow thier heads, then they become kamakazze, and then the Cabal is small tanks in which precise headshots are the best to take them down.
Also I just like the Vex. It feels like I'm fighting terminators
Man it's so disappointing when you break the game down like this and >>263325763
>Fallen: Elite stand ins, Shanks are Sentinels I guess; aim for the head nothing special about fighting Fallen
>Hive: Flood obviously, they even have the ones that charge and melee at you furiously and the ones that explode
>Vex: kinda neat I guess (I enjoyed the first mission where they pop up) , shoot them in the stomach otherwise headshots make them go beserk
>Cabal: oversized Jackals, shoot their hand to stun them then headshot them ; all their armor doesnt actually mean shit
I'll take fighting the Covenant over these fucks any day.
>If you care about the story, read the extra stuff. What's a l'Cie? Dunno, BETTER FUCKING READ ABOUT IT IN THE GAME.
so we have to read passages of text instead of it having explained well? what's the point of having a cutscene then? why not just have a game have pure gameplay then some text tucked in some menu somewhere? you see where I'm going with this? it's fucking boring.
people also don't read novels and expect mountain loads of lore, they want characters and plot with background info added in whenever needed.
>Hive: shoot in the head
>Fallen: shoot in the head
>Vex: shoot in the stomach unless you want them to go aggro
>Cabal: shoot in the hand then shoot in the head
So different! Surely their class names and factions make a difference too!
I do like the Vex.
I just think there should be more variety within the groups.
Like how you've fought everything the Fallen has by the time you're done with Russia.
I think the Moon should have had more subtypes in that faction.
The Hive has a good amount of variety. Ogres and such. And they don't show up after the Moon so it works.
Fallen seriously needs more considering how much you fight them.
Vex has some variety but you meet it all very shortly after first facing them.
Considering the number of missions and strikes, everything would benefit more with variety.
>mfw 343 is better at making games than bungie now.
>every FPS, shoot in head and advance
I summed up every FPS in the history until you have something like a tank, in this case, the voidwalker. Also you are forgetting the giant eyes with the fallen. But if you pay attention, each race has certain enemies who react differently. The fallen have fucked me up if their melee assholes snuck up on me while I fight a wizard shooting balls of fire at me. Also who doesn't like fighting a terminator army?
It feels like there should be quite a bit more to it. It feels like it wants to be an incredibly in-depth setting with lots of weird, neat shit. I love the Exo's, for example. A race of anti-terminators; machines left over from an apocalyptic war that just sort of try to get on with their lives.
The problem is that the game as presented seems to only have maybe 10% of the story stuff actually in it. It's got lots of little tastes of things I'd really like to know about, but with little in the way of big payoff. My roomate has an Xbone and works a different schedual then I do; I've been playing his copy the last couple of days, and I find myself really wanting to like the setting.
It just needs more.
I dunno, maybe by the time they decide to release it for PC (if ever) it'll have enough expansions and shit to actually explain this crap.
It's a little more complicated than that. Each enemy type has different behaviors that make combat on each planet varied from one another.
Fallen like to hide and potshot and flank. Hive like to send in the quick grunts as a distraction so you can't deal or hide from the ranged enemies. Vex like to just wash over you with a zerg rush. I haven't fought the cabal yet.
What I liked about the Hive was their dungeons on the moon. For the all the shit people are spouting, I haven't seen one person complain about the worlds itself. I was impressed how big those temples are on the moon, then I really enjoyed Venus's abandon city and it reminded me of ilos from Mass Effect
I just started fighting cabal. They are like minature "RPG" tank players. They can take a lot of damage and inflict good amount of damage if you aren't careful. Some have riot shields, so you need to knock them back with attacks on their arms and then shoot quickly before they recover
I thought there was going to be at least 4 diffrent areas on each planet. And maybe 4 time bigger than how old Russia is at least. If fucking earth. Come on earth should be huge. Some with other planets. Spawn on a guardian base or a destroyed one and you explore. But meh it's like a 6-7 barley any guns or armor that just changes color. Lmao 600 million
The worlds are pretty cool; they have a very Stalker feel to them. You really do get the impression of a long-lost war on pretty much all of them. The sound is also pretty cool, with very nice music. The gameplay is fun, if shallow.
I'd give an honest, no-shit assessment of a solid 6.5-7/10, with the possibility of going higher or lower depending Bungie actually delivering further endgame content they were promising.
I'm not defending this portion, but chances are it'll be in DLC. They have shown concept art for Europa, which is a moon of Jupiter, and have mention old Chicago and another Asia area. My guess that is a part of the long term planning they have
It doesn't make combat have a lot of variety because you're dealing with the same enemy for over half the game.
Every strike with the Fallen plays the same.
Every strike with the Vex plays the same.
There is not enough variety to make the content feel varied.
I'm at an 8 out of 10, mostly because I just love the worlds so far and the gameplay is really fun. I know missions are a little repetitive, but it's just fun killing things with different weapons. I think the biggest fault is the media overhyped this a lot, and people who played the beta know what we were getting, but shocked the game is like the beta. I hate to say this, but man people sound so fucking entitled right now. If you read into what the game was, then it met what they were saying besides a few words like Europa not being around. It sound like once Bungie announced a game everyone in the media was like, "HALO MMO INBOUND! GAMING WILL CHANGE FOREVER!" It was unfucking believable, then some people who say it's boring say Assassins Creed games are exciting and not repetitve? I'm like what the fuck? Or they want meme humor from borderlands? You know what, this game sold a lot, and in a couple of months it'll establish a solid fan base while people who didn't like it's basically not their cup of tea, but the reasoning at times makes no sense.
Worst part is it feels like Bungie are too fucking lazy to make something unique. The Fallen seem almost EXACTLY like the Covenant with all their religious bullshit and fancy sleek aesthetics. At this point I'm waiting for some form of Flood clone to pop in.
I don't even get the story. What the fuck is the giant metal planet next to Earth? What are the Exo and Awoken supposed to be? What are Guardians? It's all so poorly explained.
>muh 'darkness' muh 'light
>muh 'fallen' and 'hive'
Seriously? Fallen? What the fuck does that even MEAN? Did they fall from grace somehow? How can the lore be so generic as fuck, I thought these people planned on making some sort of sci fi epic?
It's not a story, it's a setting. They've done this so they can expand upon it and so that you can make your own stories with your friends.
If you want lore, you can go to bungie.net and look at the grimoire cards.
>so that you can make your own stories with your friends
>today we were shooting a boss for 25 minutes. we will never forget this adventure
It's alright when enemies are called the flood and the covenant, but not when they're called the fallen and the hive? Actually, I guess the more apt analogy would be to the enemy types in Halo--the Elites, Jackals, Grunts, Brutes, Hunters. Each of them has an actual name--what they're called commonly are just codenames used by the human military. It's the same fucking shit here, only people don't actually know anything about the other species' history, so they just call them what they want.
today me and my friends rode around and found a bunch of elites. Uh I mean darkness. We shot them a bunch. We did that all day. I think i'm finally gonna tell josh I wanna suck his dick tomorrow I hope it goes well
>tfw read all of the Halo books
>loved the lore despite the rock paper scissor aliens (humans, smart religious aliens, primitive beast-like aliens)
>loved Marathon's story seeing how Durandal's madness was akin to A.I's going crazy like in Halo
>loved Halo's atmosphere and gameplay
>play Destiny, no story, or interesting aliens, atmosphere is there despite no depth, similar gunplay
what a damn shame it feels like Bungie put their hearts in every game and it stopped after Halo 3
Yeah that's my biggest gripe with the game too OP. I don't even mind the generic names, it just doesn't explain anything and the whole game feels like a massive setup for actual story telling in the DLC/future games to come... which pisses me off because it's not like the story was massive in the first place
I feel like Activision did this on purpose to sell DLC and that if it was up to Bungie there'd be much more story telling occuring
It doesn't tell you where to shoot. If you assumed shooting the tanks head while it gives you 10 damage comapred to elsewhere means you are a fucking moron. Actually, you haven't even played it
The bosses in Destiny have a massive amount of HP bloat no matter what level you are.
Even if you're using a legendary sniper rifle at max level it takes a long time to whittle anything down.
I would prefer less HP sponge and more challenging battles.
>Today was my greatest trial ever.
>This battle took 25 minutes, rather than the usual 20 we had so far.
>We grew tired but kept on firing with reckless abandonment.
>We only died 6 times each which was an accomplishment to our brethen in arms to hear, which we communicated through the art of dancing.
>We were victorious but it came with a deathly price to our spirits.
>We only got 1 white item drops each.
>War is truly suffering.
>Actually, you haven't even played it
is that supposed to be a bad thing?
where do suddenly all those destiny supporters come from? or am i being trolled here?
>the greatest story I've ever seen
>people actually bought destiny
>people ACTUALLY bought the destiny bundle
>initial build has the background in engine
>in the final build it's a painted background
what the fuck happened
You're supposed to unlock the story with the fucking grimoire shit and use a goddamn phone app to read it.
It's fucking retarded. Some of the lore is pretty interesting too but NOPE GOTTA HAVE AN IPHONE AND THIS FUCKING STUPID APP TO KNOW ANYTHING
No, it's purposely vague to get you to buy all the DLC.
They want to be an MMO, and space out the content, but are charging $60 for each segment instead of just releasing it periodically.
The only nice thing I can say about this game in the shortish time I've played it is that the vehicle you summon controls nice and sounds good. The levels were really built with it in mind and it shows
Everything else about the game is boring and other games have done better. It's a shame
>buying a ps4 before any games come out
>buying a ps4 before any large price drops
Enjoy that limited edition white paperweight
>watch a movie
>plot sucks and nothing makes sense
>WOW YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GET ON YOUR PHONE DURING THE MOVIE AND LOOK UP THE PLOT LOL ITS AWESOME
>what thats stupid why couldnt they just make a better movie
>LOL YOU ALWAYS HAVE YOUR PHONE ON YOU WHO DOESNT THESE DAYS? JEEZ IS IT REALLY THAT BIG OF A DEAL HAHAA
Level 21 hunter here. I think this game is very addictive and the mutliplayer is fun as fuck. I have a few buddies of mine and we just madw a clan and we have been hamming through crucible matches.
P.S Fuck you Titan users.
>Implying storytelling techniques for movies and games are universally interchangeable
>YFW this is what the cancer turning games into walking simulators with voiceovers looks like
it amazes me how massive a faggot /v/ is. if you like a game, you're a shill. if you play a game, you have bad taste. if you own a console, you're not a gamer. why can't you just play video games and be happy? half of the people that say this game is terrible haven't even played it. you probably watched some 12 year old on twitch get raped at it.
>I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain
>A side must always be taken, little light. Even if it's the wrong side.
PS WHAT THE FUCK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfhrONAp-c&feature=youtu.be&t=2m30s
The problem with these posts is that the game does have a story and tells you what littler there is like a bad movie.
It doesn't matter how intricate the lore and setting is when the actual plot at hand is really poorly done.
They just did the absolute minimum of set up and threw in as many cool sounding things that they heard on GoT (House Winter? Seriously?), probably with the thought that "we'll write something when it's time for the next expansion." The fact that you can't skip any cutscenes just make the story intrusive, though. At least include an option like in Guild Wars where if everyone presses Start the cutscene ends.
I heard some of you idiots haven't bought Destiny but I didnt believe it. haha, then i read some of those 0 reviews on meta critic. most of these people haven't even played it. I myself only just stopped playing Destiny after 17 hrs of playing this digital chef d'oeuvre and sure enough it looks like some of you slept through the fking freight train of success passing outside, rattling your windows. "Somebody" mistakenly actually thinks they can stop the hype. Sorry somebody couldn't scrounge up a measly $70 to buy a golden ticket to The Game of the freaking moment? somebody wasted all their money on designer pc games like goat simulator and Dear Esther? Spent all your lunch money donating to a redditfag to make a red-haird anime g/f name vivivan?Could you be more bitter? guess where that 500 MILLION fking dollars goes? Soon you won't have to pay for these AAA digital gold titles because it will automatically come out of your fkign taxes.A mandatory fee to the greater good because these GOAT games bring joy and fun to millions of real gamers all over the fkign world. 20 years from now your grand son will look at you wide-eyes and amazed that you played THE original mario brothers on NES. 800 years from then there will be random strangers flocking to a fucking shrine to touch the exposed toe of a statue of a man that may-or-may not have playe Destiny on the night release on PS$. SO hop aboard scrub or get out the way because you will be run over by the hype trains because they have the momentum of half a billion dollars in cold hard cash in their storage cars and they stop for NO man. And no im not mad, im actually crying alitte because im so happy that i am young and have lots of time left to play games liek destiny and tlou and watch dogs and whatever is on my lifetime subscription d/l tray for origin and uplay and activision to instanly d/l to my pc painlessly in seconds within moments of release to my hardrive.
/v/ bitches how games like the TLOU is too story centric, now you bitch when it's not story centric. Make up your minds
I don't see the story as bad, but mostly non-existent. Here is a word with these races, history, and etc, and it's not explored. That is my beef, but the story itself with your character doesn't really happen until the second half with discover a developing crisis and stop it.
Thats /v/ for you. Oh, but they bought into the watch dogs hype. Turns out the game was shit, now they're talking about how smash bros for 3ds sucks, again they hyped it up. /v/ sucks a choosing games. I come here for the lol's
YOU SEE THAT MOUNTAIN
YOU CAN CLIMB IT...
I think it is bad because you can't skip the cutscenes and what little there is that gets pushed on screen is really lackluster.
I do not really feel anything with the story, it seems to be an excuse just to have a plotline to make the player feel special.
I would have actually preferred the story to be about how you're just a Guardian that isn't too important and you get to learn more about the world as things go on.
Would have been much more interesting than what ended up happening.
Are the Vex literally Geth from ME1?
The only thing i like about D E S T I N Y™ are the imposed fantasy names on enemies, like Goblins and Minotaurs and shit on robots.
Everything else is garbage
>/v/ bitches how games like the TLOU is too story centric, now you bitch when it's not story centric.
There are more than one way for video games to tell a story or keep a player informed. The problem is Destiny doesn't even try.
10. It didn't clean my house while I was at work, after repeated commands to do so.
9. It doesn't smell nice like my wife after a bubble bath.
8. I went to PvP and some asshole shot me in the face with a fusion rifle. Rude!!!
7. Apparently it wasn't enough to keep Robin Williams alive.
6. The name of the game reminds me of a stripper I dated back in the early 90's and she broke my heart and I don't wanna talk about it so shut up!
5. "Destiny" can be anagramed to "Ed's Tiny" and it's not nice to make fun of other peoples' genitalia. Plus, that's Ed's girlfriend's problem, not Bungie's.
4. I like to dedicate at least 20 hours a day to beating a video game because lets face it what else do i have to do and unless i am the best i am nothing and i'm bored already because ive run out of things to do and also i have no idea what punctutation is or how to use it or even why anyone would need such a thing
3. The dance moves are ghey. Why can't my character do a Funky Chicken??? WHY, BUNGIE, WHY???????
2. I really like the game but my negativity gets more responses from my fellow forum readers and I like attention.
1. I'm a 12 year old entitled jerk who probably talks back to his mama.
Zelda doesn't sell itself on the story, the only one that has, Skyward Sword, actually had a more interesting story than Destiny (though the game was shit). Most of the zelda games have the same appeal as metroid, exploration that slowly opens the world up as you acquire new items that open new areas. Its certainly not advertised as "THE GREATEST EPIC SINCE LORD OF THE RINGS" and it would be mocked if it were.
I feel the exact same way. There is a huge potential here for a cool story, but I am almost finished with the story missions and there is still no context for ANYTHING. Im really just surprised more than anything that this is the direction Bungie took with this game.
I can't believe people on here who played the beta bought it. The beta should have been a huge red flag for people. I'm actually surprised Bungie did an open beta for a spell. They must have known how shit the game is.
Why is the story so short?
Why is there no private game mode for crucible with map and gametype selectors?
Why can't we explore more of Earth, The Reef?
What happened to the concept art of Europa and the other Jovian moons?
Why does it take so long to grind and get cool stuff?
Why isn't there a trading system in place for players?
Why is PvP such an unbalanced shotgun pandering mess?
Why does everything need a million crucible and vanguard marks to obtain?
Why do all of the faction armors look the same with the exception of color scheme?
This game feels unfinished as fuck. Was this game really in development since 2009?
Who do we blame? Bungie, Activision or both?
I can answer a couple of these.
>What happened to the concept art of Europa and the other Jovian moons?
>Why does it take so long to grind and get cool stuff?
You can just run Strikes to cut a bit of that down but then you hit the level 20 grind.
>Why does everything need a million crucible and vanguard marks to obtain?
Pulling bad inspiration from MMOs
>Why do all of the faction armors look the same with the exception of color scheme?
Ultimate armors is supposed to be the thing everyone builds up to. Bad MMO design.
>Why is there no private game mode for crucible with map and gametype selectors?
Forced social play with people you can't talk with.
>Who to blame
Bungie and Activision.
Fighting wizards make me want to slit my wrists. Everytime you get the shield down it decides to either float off behind a pillar or combo you to death with its energy shit in an instant.
Its because the areas are already in the game. Like 3-4 places on Earth are locked out, if you didn't explore. Jovian Complex, Bunker RAsomething, Seraphim Vault and King' Reach.
Moon is the same way. Venus seems big enough to also have "hidden" areas. Mars probably too
I appreciate that aspect of the story
There is no sweeping narrative about you saving the cosmos from certain death. All you did was thwart one of the Vex's plans. Their still out there, so are the Fallen, the Hive. Even the final cutscene has robo waifu telling you how fucked you are.
Anyone who has played the game could tell you this, you're surprising no one. It's going to be some new maps, new raids and new strikes.
We won't see any new zones for a long fucking time. It took them 500 mil and 9 years to make four zones. You think they can slap together 2 more in a few months?
For what it is worth I am enjoying it too, much more than I expected but it isnt a great game.
I would love, love, love to see someone come forwars and talk about the development process and tge issues they obviously had making the game.
The only thing that really angered me about this was Bungie saying "abloo bloo its a shame people are reviewing this when raids and other content arent live."
Its a shame you sold an incomplete game to consumers, fag.
I am enjoying it though. I just had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
>Implying Destiny doesn't have cool lore stuff.
The Vex send goons back in time, then have the lay dormant for ages until they need to be activated at a certain time
The Vex convert entire planets into living machines to form a chain of robotizied star systems
The Vex are a mix of synthetic and organic life
Fuck you, they aren't the Geth.
>The Vex convert entire planets into living machines to form a chain of robotizied star systems
This was the most interesting part to me.
>They turned Mercury into a machine in days
>We're going to have to wait 2 years to go to Mercury
>Fully robotic landscape utilizing warp gates to jump around
>Fallen there just because
joe was never a good reviewer.
and he never had overall good or even rational opinions on gaming-related topics.
and 80% of his content is filler.
...but he is amusing to watch at times when he rages at stuff, and his little skits are pretty good.
Fallen felt really out of place on Venus.
I liked how the Fallen were kings of earth, and the Hive were in control of the moon, but each sent troops to the other to spread their control.
It made sense too because of how close they were.
The others, not so much..
The Fallen are basically space orcs, they are justified in being on any planet at any time. As for the Fallen? Don't really know their angle so I can't comment on that.
Cabal are shit though
The story isn't finished.
This is a ONLINE game, and we will get new content every month, with new lore, zones, bosses, cutscenes etc...
If you understand this is an Online game that will evolve every month, then you'll enjoy it as we do
When they angle their shields you can't hit the foot and the damn auto tracking always pulls to their chest, which is shielded.
Plus if you get two of them overlapping a bit it's a fucking chore
I doubt the pvp content will see much tweaking, they commented on it already saying that every class thinks every other class is imbalanced.
But they are sure to be cranking out content for the foreseeable future.
> i hope it gets better as they release the rest of the game
Hunters are the only class that have a super that gives them a guaranteed 3 kills. Warlocks and Titans have to hope the enemy is retarded and clumps up while hunter can use the massive amounts of auto aim to get their super kills
Or they go blade dancer and get a super that makes them tankier than titans and runs around at super high speed one shotting everyone with their dagger.
I know because i'm a hunter
Shoulder Charge would be overpowered if they could use it from sprinting at any time.
But it's actually balanced because you need 5 seconds to build it up and then use it in the next 5 seconds or it goes away and you need to stop sprinting and start again
So if you just backpedal you can avoid it completely
First it's not hitscan it travels, second the autoaim in this game is garbage that fucks over most attempts at accuracy, and thirdly with 1 shot AOE you have no need to aim at all.
It doesnt run at 60 fps and it has aim assist and no ability to use mouse and keyboard as far as I know. Probably cant adjust shit like motion blur and rebind keys either. Looks like a shit fps to me.
>Sequel ends up being decent
>It sells like shit because of the first game and Activision loses a lot of money
That's the only good thing that could come from this
maybe some of us just don't have any more fucks to give about any FPS.
I've played it all bitch. wolfenstein, then doom, then quake, then tribes, then deus ex, then fucking goldeneye and turok fffs. then only did I realize how fucking worthless those games were when unreal 2k4 unsheathed it's 17 inch digital dick in my proverbial fat ass. and after that? fucking halo, then call of duty, then borderlands. and somewhere in all that mess of one-man-army bullfuck, I played red faction, fallout 3 and new vegas, daikatana, and FUCK. I just don't care anymore about shooting fake bullets at numerous predickable faggots, human or AI or my little fuckstain nephews any-god-damn-more.
just because some faggot decided, "hey lets mix GEAR GRINDING with SHOOTING SHIT with UNINTELLIGIBLE, PRETENTIOUS DRIVEL with HEROES THAT LOOK LIKE THEY OUGHT TO BE CHUCKING ROCKS AT APC'S IN ISRAEL --
I don't even fucking know anymore. I'm not paying 90 godfuck dollars for any more of this shit.
fuck you. FPS's are dried up shit rehashed over and over.
no one gives a fuck anymore.
>The Fallen House of Winter, led by the ruthless Kell Draksis, have been found operating in and around the Ishtar Sink on Venus. Their interests there seem directed at the ruins of the Academy along the Shattered Coast, but there are concerns that their focus may, in actuality, be directed elsewhere - toward the ominous Citadel that rises like a warning above the Waking Ruins.
Maybe this will help you realize why people are upset. I can appreciate that many of the things that I don’t like about this game, you like. That is fine, however you have to understand why other people don’t like these things.
The game is fun. That’s it. It is fun. Like jumping off a diving board into a swimming pool, or dancing to music, it is fun. Dead Rising was fun. It was marketed as fun. And it delivered what it set out to do. (The storyline was AAA compared to Destiny too)
It is not great. You can list out all of the "features," and "things you can do," but it’s not opinion, its fact. It is not new, groundbreaking, or even on par with anything Bungie has done before. It is possible to have fun with this game, if you have friends, or if you haven’t really played games before, but this is the experience for individuals not playing in a Party with friends. Here are the facts that prove this:
The gameplay is repetitive, there is nothing NEW here. Literally Halo with a new skin, same weapons with new names, even the Needler from Halo is in the game, shooting little blue balls of energy instead of pink spikes, but following IDENTICAL "bullet" physics. This is not surprising, as Bungie has only ever had success with the Halo formula, however, instead of adding anything new, all abilities, shield, weapons, have all been done in Halo.
Each mission is repetitive. Go here, deploy ghost, wait, defend, whatever. This was fresh in 2001, when I would deploy Cortana and defend her while she did her thing. To make EVERY single level feature these types of objectives, is mind-blowing. I am absolutely blown away by the lack of creativity.
Again, I think they slacked on it in exchange for the Social Online aspect of the game, which is strange because the Social Online aspect of the game stinks, as I’ll mention throughout (no coms, random players in levels, not a sound in the Tower which is supposed to be a social hub – can’t even type anything).
I just started playing and its already making me angry
Also why are there rusting out slavmobiles all over the road? I know its Kazakhstan but even they should have teleports and tube shuttles considering how important the Cosmodome was to society
There is no storyline. Compared to ANY other game I have played, this storyline is pathetic. There are no major characters, events, plot lines, places, or consequences. You may say this is like any other MMO, and that would be okay, if Destiny provided the positives of an MMO.
Which it does not. I don’t know what they think is MASSIVE about their MULTIPLAYER, 12 online players isn’t massive, neither is 30. Especially when you barely even see other players (and can’t communicate with them anyways).
AI. Even Titanfall AI was better than this. They literally spawn 20 seconds after you kill any group, in the exact same place, every time, just sitting there, doing nothing. Pylons are more creative enemies than what Bungie has created in Destiny. If I am close to dying, I run 10 metres away from them and just sit there while my Guardian/Spartan Shield recharges.
Any upgrading to be done to my character is exactly matched by AI levels. This makes upgrading obsolete and necessary at the same time. It makes NO difference to your gameplay unless you don’t upgrade, at which point you’ll be underpowered. Upgrading just keeps the game the exact same as it was the level before.
Loading Screens Galore. Any sense of adventure is dulled out by the tenuous loading screens everywhere. Again, if they were loading MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER matches, or worlds where you run in to dozens of other players, it would make sense. But again, these positives do not accompany the negative of the Loading Screens.
Multiplayer? I load a story map, and when I magically appear on the same ground I have already been to (exciting), there are three other people randomly jumping and running around the "map." I follow my generic objectives very quickly and easily run through enemy groups that a) respawn exactly how they were when I inevitably have to retrace my steps to complete another meaningless objective, b) respawn in time for the players who are two steps ahead of me (they were already in this mission when I loaded it), so that my timing with them is completely sporadic and unrealistic.
First thoughts, great I can join up with these players. Reality, they are 3 minutes ahead of me in their mission, they all disappear off the map before I can even catch up to them. Even when I do catch players, there is no COMMUNICATION in this "social" game. Again, negatives of the ONLINE-only game, no positives to be seen anywhere.
Okay so when I finally finish the mission, which was never single player or multiplayer, just a static linear route through a map that players can watch each other run through, I head to the Tower.
First thoughts, great I can talk to these other Guardians and set up missions with them easily. Silence. . . What? What is going on here, players running around and jumping around doing things that could easily be taken care of in a menu system. Okay, so I have to run to different shops to buy gear, half of which is just Aesthetic, the other half necessary in order to stay ON PAR with enemies, as opposed to just navigating a menu.
This would be GREAT if there were any positives attached, like SOCIAL aspects or communication. But there aren’t, there is literally no reason for the Tower. It feels like something out of a PC game from the late 90’s.
If you are still reading, thank you. I appreciate that you enjoy this game, I am just trying to convey my opinion of it. Sometimes we like things and we don’t know why, we just like them! That’s fine, that’s human! Unfortunately, it is also human to get defensive when somebody else does not share your opinion. The things I have said are a reflection of my experiences with Destiny.
Whether or not they have as much weight on your enjoyment of the game or not, is up to you. However, just because most of these things don’t bother you, it does not mean that this is a good game, nor does it mean that Bungie made something good here, or even close to being worthy of their history and the hype/marketing that they themselves spent money on.
A lot of what you wrote had to do with people not realizing they had not played the whole game. This is opinion.
To me, Exploration is a waste of time, because Loot and Rank mean nothing and don’t change the game in any manner. You may appreciate your rank and the Loot you receive, and that may increase your pleasure of the experience, but the actual physical game does not change in any manner as a result of upgrading these things.
Second, I do not like walking around the same level many times, no matter what new "activities" or "challenges" are available. To me, these do not change the physical surroundings of the map, the reaction of the AI, the physics of the FPS aspects, the narrative, nothing.
Third, this monotonous retracing in Exploration is necessary after ALREADY going through the same levels more than once. The first time around, those levels aren’t exciting at all. The third time around they are so boring it isn’t funny.
Again, if you disagree, it is because you appreciate the Loot and Rank over the Map and Gameplay. I can play Sonic The Hedgehog still, same levels hundreds of times, but I would NEVER try and convince somebody that doing so was to experience something new every time. It is repetitive, that is a fact.
The reality is, this is a really fun game for a lot of people. This is a really boring game for a lot of people. This is an upset for a lot of people. This is nothing close to what some people were expecting. Most people wanted something new and exciting, which is what Bungie marketed Destiny as. Destiny is not new and exciting, it is actually rather dull in the grand scheme of things.
This is why you are seeing so many people say that this game sucks, or is boring, or didn’t live up to the hype. It is not a great game. It is debatably a good game. It is a fun game for a lot of people.
Personally, I enjoy reading people’s complaints, because they are very transparent. I don’t enjoy reading comments like yours, because they are always opinionated and biased, as you clearly enjoy aspects of RPG (as your pleasure with loot, rank, gear, etc tells me). That being said, I wish you could just play the game and enjoy it, rather than try and convince others, who have tried the game, and do not enjoy it, that what you are doing is the right thing, and that your opinion has any affect on the quality of the game.
I have never read a comment like yours and changed my opinion about the quality of a game, because no post on a website will have more influence than playing the actual game right in front of me.
Wait...so you're trying to say that you're an insane overactor? Is that why you're trying to sell the idea that owning a PS4 is bad?
You know, a Nicholas Cage reaction image doesn't really help your point. Ever. It can only detract from it.
>Being this autistic.
I just unlocked Mars.
Apparently, I have to get to level 15 to have a chance with the first mission there. I need to grind for three levels to have a chance there.
Fuck this. Bungie, you got your MMO grindan in my shootan, and I do not like it one bit.
I played through a bunch of story missions with a friend who was about five levels ahead of me, so that cut down on my experience quite a bit.
I guess I'll have to slog through a few strikes with some pubbies if I want to have a chance on Mars.
Grinding sucks, no matter what.
And at least I'm not one of those morons trying to justify his shitty purchase with shit like
>it'll get patched
>its not implemented yet
>you cant review a newly launched MMO fairly!
Honestly the only reason I believe I have had such a great experience with the game is that I have been playing it with 2 other friends. We all just hit 20 today, and are just doing Crucible matches which I think are pretty fun.
>Why must the right place always be so terrifying?
Except in Destiny's case you can't read about it in game, you have to go to their fucking website and read about it there.
You pick up cards in the fucking game that can only be read on their bullshit site that ain't nobody taking the time to visit. Fuck you Bungie, you stupid cunts.
I'm glad Destiny has been getting mediocre reviews because it's a mediocre game.
>tfw there are better FREE MMOs than this.
I feel like there is a lot of potential being lost. this game could be so much more than a shooter and it never will be.
why don't they have competitive online sparrow races? why don't they use the space ship for anything but a loading screen?
>why don't they have competitive online sparrow races?
Why doesn't it have custom games so someone can make that themselves?
Where's forge mode?
Is this really the studio that made Halo 3?
The potential isn't lost, anon. That's why they have had loads of DLC planned long before the game released.
Whether or not the base game sees any improvements via free updates remains to be seen. So far the "events" bungie has planned are more of the same shit.
its just that this very much feels like half a game, they have legitimately 4 levels and every mission you just go to different areas of them
I want the exploration that was promised
and also I hate the bullet sponge bosses
That's a load of shit and you know it. Story/lore is what Bungie built their company on. Destiny is the company's most shit tier effort since Oni for PS2. Whatever M$ was doing to whip the studio into not resting on their laurels, Activision sure isn't doing.
Activision probably turned the studio into a sweatshop. Shit, all Activision cares about is squeezing every dollar out of a franchise while they can.
MS at least valued Bungie and the fact that the Halo franchise is all the Xbox has going for it. I'm willing to bet they had a lot more freedom under Microsoft.
I really like Capture the Flag because I love playing multiplayers with jet packs, but other then that I don't really like it.
Considering selling it but I bought the version with the expansions too so I might as well keep it and see if they're alright.
