ITT: Terrifying and just insanely horrific vidya weapons and enemies.

>One exploding sends millions of micro fiber shards of crystal in your skin/body
>Enough hitting you is enough to explode sending fragments of razor sharp crystal several feet from you
>Said explosion can injure or kill nearby foes.
Imagine having a glass spike stab into your stomach, and said glass explodes and tiny glass shards are now in your body and all over you.

YFW one needle round is enough to kill or injure a soldier to the point of a slow death.
YFW Grunts wield this
YFW a pack of Grunts is actually strong enough to fuck up a squad of Marines if they aren't very careful
I have no face actually
>>262988856
This thing will clear an entire room and knock you back a good few feet from the recoil.
The Demons from Doom. Sure the games dont have too big of a story but anyone who has played Doom 1/2 knows it's pretty fucking creepy. Just thinking of being a Human soldier or worker and out of nowhere HELL literally comes and just destroys you. Bodies are just being tortures and left to die slowly. Watching your fellow man become mindless zombies. While others are stripped and put on spikes.
Fun game. But if you think about it, Doom is a horrifying concept
>>262989384
I could kinda imagine this being some type of plasma/radiation type gun. Like it's a ball of energy and radiaion that "pops" sending fucking extreme amounts of just death out.
Wish I knew what exactly it shot out.
>>262988856
I never thought of it that way.
The winner.

>Knowing Rapture could have been a perfect life, but ruined.
>>262989969
Even with it's colorful and sometimes harmless color pallet, the Covenant weapons in Halo realistically would ruin shit. However balance for MP would be shit if one plasma bolt was enough to kill you.
The Assault Rifle shoots m14 bullets, with little to no recoil. So 60 (or 32) m14 bullets being sprayed out like a fucking 9 MM SMG.
And so on. Even the human weapons are crazy powerful. However Covies take the scary cake.
>Also pic is a scale sized Elite.
>Yes they are that big.
>>262989887
It's a plasma ball I think
>>262990640
Too bad Halo (games) never really show this. I mean you can tell Elites are bigger against Marines. Yet they dont show how scary they are.
And I dont care how well trained you are, or tough you are. When you are fighting something whose fucking hands could literally hold your body using super heated plasma weapons you'd be fucking scared.
>>262990640
I always forget how fucking huge the Sanghelios are
>>262991117
The Wraith in Halo is another grand example of why The Covenant would be an enemy you would never want to fight.
Game Wraith_
>Limited range
>Low impact
>Low blast damage
>Takes 1-3 shots to kill vehicles/etc
Actual lore Wraith
>Can mortar targets miles away
>Explosion is hot enough to vaporie anything without 50+ feet
>Anything outside of that 50+ feet would be subjected to heats so much that any living thing would burn and most likely die
>Anything without 150-200 feet would get 3rd degree burns or massive amounts of radiation
Pretty much a pack of Wraiths could bomb a base from a few miles away and leave nothing left.
>>262991267
You never get a good perspective of this in game because of how huge spartans are as well, and the game doesn't convey scale very well.
>>262991267
>Brutes are anywhere from 6-20+ inches taller.
>Hunters are usaully that size when armored but can reach twice that height when standing
I think Tartarus that white fat fuck was like 10 or 12 feet tall. He was the Big Show in the Brute world
>>262991663
They're the ultimate artillery vehicle, you can't shield against a rain of molten plasma.
>>262988856
Maybe not scary but the concept of Hunters from Halo. Which are pretty much millions of tiny worms acting under one "hive mind".
The number of "worms" determines the power, intelligence and function of said being. All they need is a "Shell" to use in. "Hunters" can be the size of a grunt to the size of a building.
They also have the second largest population size, I think numbering in the trillions if not even higher.
>>262991871
Tartarus was such an asshole.
>>262991775
As you said mostly because how big Chief is. ODST does make you feel a little smaller. I remember being bumble confused at 11 or 12 years old and learning Grunts were actuall 5 or so feet tall.
>YFW Grunts and Jackals would be taller than most of Earths population
>>262992281
Better "bad guy" than DICKdact.
Sadly Zombies are so over fucking used. But still I think any form of Zombie is something I find spooky. Just the idea of losing your mind and turning on your friends. Just spooks me out
pretty much all the covenant guns are downgraded from the lore for game balance
i don't think any of them aren't actually described as absolutely horrific weapons to be faced up against
>>262992567
DICKtact should never have happened.
Bungie kept the Forerunners this ancient forgotten race with only their constructs and structures remaining, then 343 fucks everything up and says "HEY YOU FIGHT THE FORERUNNERS NOW"
What the fuck, no. That's not how it works.
I don't consider Halo 4 canon.
>>262993147
Reach fucked up canon as well. Halo 4 is a fine game but it's a hard story to keep really.
Halo takes place over the course of a million or so years around an entire galaxy and beyond.
With dozens if not more living species, robots, A.I and such.
Trying to keep that in one fine super cool story isn't easy. It's a hard thing to keep.
>YFW Medicant Bais will never be in a Halo game directly even though his story is fucking amazing.
>every hunter is a colony of smaller beings
>they all have a bro
>warriors code dog
>have warrior poems in their crazy language
>go berserk when their bros die
and their cannon is of course like a ludicrous mini nuke by lore
>>262993498

God damn anon, now you got me remembering ilovebees.com, all the Halo 3 Terminals, FUCK.

Hunters and Elites are the best of bros
Hunters fucking rekt the Covenant before they were terrorized to join.
Hunters only respect and like Elites. Grunts and Jackals are shit faggots, Brutes are seen as cunts, and so on.
Sadly I think In Halo 3/Halo 4 some Hunters were forced to join because of fear and "brain" washing But I think several Hunters are actual allies.
I hope Destiny is good, I miss Bungie.
>>262988856
Just a lore issue here, why does it have needles sticking out of it like the pistol, if the ammo is fed into it through that cartridge?
Or is the cartridge like a battery that powers the rifle so that it can fire the spikes? Do you know? Its fucking killing me man.
>Pic

>>262993773
Someone had some big theory that Halo 5 will have him be a big focus. Pretty much MED BAIS is "split" in different areas to keep him from fucking everyone up again. Someone made some theory that Chief or somebody was going to find the parts of him and re-use him to end the war.
Pretty much MB turned bad but over time learned he fucked up and is stuck in a limbo of guilt that "he" pretty much caused the fall of the Forerunners.
Didact now has 6 Composers and a Halo ring he's trying to use against Earth to wipe out Humanity for good. I'd give 343 some respect if they had the balls to literally kill off Earth and have Halo 6 be the remaining Humans trying to win against countless odds.
Halo 4=OMFG HUMANS BE STRONG OH YEA BABY
Halo 5=Fuck Earth is literally just dead. Billions just die no fail, including a large chunk of military
Halo 6=Humans are scattered, weak, moral is low, Earth is lost, Storm, Forunners, Didact forces outnumber them 10:1 or something
Only allies are a few Elites and Covies.
Would make Halo 5/6 actually good
>>262994281
This is how the Needler works, which is the original one. The Needle Rifle is more of a carbine rifle, with higher bullet velocity and accuracy, the Needles do home in on targets though.
If you get enough needles in someone they explode the stuck needles outwards, ripping the victim apart.
>>262991179
They're mostly shown slouching, or in comparison to Chief, who is already abig guy
>>262994805
I know how the munitions work, I'm wondering whether that drum fed into the rifle is the actual ammo, and if so why are there also needles poking out of the sides, or if its just charge to work the weapons firing mechanism.
>>262991663
An 155mm shell can do a somewhat similar job.

They need to kill the series soon, and I wouldn't mind if we just ran away to another Galaxy, or maybe even involve some Precursor technology, since we're digging up sacred remains.
>Forerunners activate the Array again
>We escape in a Precursor ship
>Forerunners can't follow
>We live safely on the other side of the universe.
That would be a fitting end I think.
>>262995026
Ok from what I think I remember I may know I learned (whut?)
>Magazine is filled with some crystal stuff
>When loaded the gun does some shit and said crysal stuff reacts and "Crystallizes" into spikes
>Needler then shoots out these spikes which may or may not have limited organic cells in them giving them the ability to home in.
It's a gun that's never explained fully. However the best guess from the books is the crystal is semi-living and can detect body heat and "Travels" to it.
this gun doesn't get enough recognition
the Genocide Gun from EDF 2017
Beat all levels on Inferno Mode and you get the nuke button, essentially
Search for a video of it in action to really appreciate it
>Aim at too low of an angle from the card
>Shoot
>Die
>>262994501
>>262991663
That would be nice for realism, but not really fun for gameplay, unless you're playing stealth or something. Maybe someday they'll do a really gritty realistic halo where the Covenant are fucking completely destroying everything and you're player isn't a goofy superhero in power armor, and instead you're a hardened soldier with emotional issues struggling to survive when completely overmatched and outgunned. But that would be a completely different game.
>>262994281
>Insert cartridge
>Needles feed into a semi-exposed magazine which pushes the ammunition hence why they stick out from the side
>Needles on the side are shot out of the gun when fired
Same design choice with the needler. If you watch some animations you'll notice that on both variations the external needles are what are used to shoot since you can see them disappear.
>>262995574
ODST 2 please...
>Show off how scary Covies can actually be
>Focus HEAVILY on stealth.
>Show ODST and Marines using tactics and team work to defeat stronger Covenant foes.

I'll do one for my pet weapon, although I don't think there's anything official about it, so this is all speculation.
>Contact beam
High powered sonic resonance projector
>Mechanisms cause the fork like barrel to resonate at extremely low frequency, held in check by some form of containment field generated by the prongs inset in the "barrel"
>Energy field extends outward, forming an explosive cone of compressed low resonance sound, causing the deep boom of the weapon
>The AOE secondary is caused by pressing the tongs to the floor, producing sympathetic vibrations in the floor plates, knocking everything around the user away

Well if Im not mistaken most explosions are just highly compressed "sound" waves that are so powerful they just wreck shit.
I rememeber watching about explosions and the damage they do. And damn they are nasty. Some explosions dont just rip you apart or so they leave you intact but literally liquify your insides.
Pretty much said weapon (assuming its strong enough) would turn your insides into soup. So yes it would fuck up.
>>262994501
You're the most prime example of neo-/v/. You come into a thread that's actually discussing video games just to shitpost and complain and tell everyone to stop talking about video games. Kill yourself, you miserable worthless faggot.
>>262997457
Don't quote me on this but from what I hear someone on /k/ using some crazy math figured out a Super MAC cannon would have the power to cause some massive damage if it was fired on a Planet.
Something like the force of 100 nukes or something. I dont remember.
Yet I hear a single rod weighing a few tons falling using just gravity has enough energy to wreck shit. Now being fired at 4% the speed of light would add some power.
Unreal 2 was shit, however at the end the penultimate weapon effectively shot a limited duration portal linked to a fucking singularity.
The plasma raifle in tribes always made me feel a little unsettled. And in the more extended lore of the Starsiege universe the cybrids were full on horrifying - the compendium that shipped with starsiege has a cybrid tactical analysis in it recommending targeting children as "human//animals" display an illogical hormonol//emotional attachment to them and the act can cause them compromise more strategically valuable assets. Also the readily used radiation to kill people readily, specifically the radiation gun could be used to kill human herc pilots with minimal damage to salvage. They were not an enemy to be fucked with.
>>262997457
I can only imagine the vast energy requirements of such a device, considering that to project something to the speed of light from a standstill would require as much energy as burning all of jupiters flammable gasses up. So its 4% of a Jupiter to hurl one of those shells. Either that or they use some kind of quantum trick like warp fields, which require considerably less power.

>>262998139
Not sure about that, but in one the newer novels, the Infinity fires a MAC round at Sanghelios and created like, I think a seven mile wide crater? It's been a while since I saw the exact text. I just looked it up and apparently the total energy released from the Super MAC round is 3,090,195 times the energy released from the atomic bomb detonated over Hiroshima in World War II. Dunno if that would destroy everything but it does sound like it.
>No game will ever have the amount of lore Halo has, even before 343 fucked things up
>>262998197
Magnets son. Also sci-fi lore
However said huge fucking thing is shot out using super powered magnets that "squeeze" it out. Each coil or magnets it passes it adds a huge amount of energy.
Magnets are pretty damn powerful. Infact magnetic energy is far greater than Gravity (hence why a fridge magnet can hold up and not be pulled down)
>>262998316
Depends on what kinda bomb it is. Not all bombs have fire. Ever watch a video of bomb tests (i.e myth busters) there is usaully little to no fire, the force is sound waves.
Sound itself is just waves. Some explosions are just those waves but super condensed to the point of causing some nasty shit happen to whatever gets it its way
I'd say Headcrab zombies are pretty chilling because the hosts are still conscious and probably in constant agony from the mutations to their body.
Just imagine it. You're alive, can barely hear or see and your twisted body is being driven against your will. Then you feel bullets and a crowbar hit you suddenly.
>>262998139
Depends on what part of the planet it hit, and how much resistance was offered.
The idea of a guided Kinetic Kill Projectile is to basically just punch holes into heavily armored bunkers, without fallout. The speed of the projectile directs all of its energy deep into the ground, and so while the force might be between 20 and 100 megatons, all of that is directed deep into the ground.

The Cerebral Bore. Does pretty much exactly what the name says; once you get a lock on it homes in on the target's head and drills into their brain, then ejecting all of the scrambled blood, bone, and brain matter in a stream of liquified gore. Oh, and it makes a horrible screeching sound.

The method of delivery is pretty freaky too. I mean let's say you've been running from giant tripods with disintegration beams all day, find shelter in a resistance base and meet some really good people and crash. You wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of a delivery pod hitting inside the resistance base and see the qt who just helped bandage your wounds a couple hours ago with fingers torn to the the bone limbering towards you as creepy as shit spider crab aliens try to attach to your face and make you one too. and don't even get me started on manhacks...
>>262999827
you raise a good point, but the game itself showed the issues with drop pods
>squad gets scattered
>no guarantees you'll land somewhere you can even get out of

and everyone knows in video games, drop ships and helicopters are guaranteed death

ODST are tough fucks for that reason. You could land literally in a cluster of enemies. You need to have the skills, speed, and power to pop out ready to fight.

But hey even having soldiers jump out with parachutes can result in the same problems.

Imagine getting hit with a rail gun. One moment your chest is complete and after a blinding flash there's a big ass hole in it. If the beam is heat based it cauterizes the wound so you can't slip into death by losing consciousness and bleeding out. You are lying on the ground like a human pen holder and you have nothing better to do than estimate how long the wound will take to kill you. Lorewise it opens a time bending blackhole in the target you hit and the sword is the only thing stopping you from being sucked in yourself.

The Halo Lake Gondola part is my favorite part from Halo 2. Yeah you're just staying on that gondola as shit attacks you, but the music is fantastic and syncs nicely with the action going on. Then as you come up on the big structure and scope in with your sniper rifle and can see the covenant on the structure getting ready to fight you the music crescendos.
Magical.
It bothers how easily you can tear someone's soul in fantasy game.
Diablo 2 has a spell where you summon an entity who'll chase the nearest monster around, tear its soul into pieces, and carry said soul to hell, leaving the monster mutilated.
Statwise, it just causes massive damage, but I still find it horrifying. Especially given you visit hell later, and it's not a nice place at all.

well, it's a blade of focused plasma. Another example of plasma in fiction is a lightsaber, in real life, lightining bolts, the sun, and plasma torches are all examples of plasmas.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_%28physics%29
Fun fact: it's entirely possible to create an energy sword in real life. it's actually really fucking simple. Plasma is effected by electromagnetic fields, so all the energy sword is is a hilt which creates the field, and a battery/generator which ionizes fuel into a plasma.
We can easily do the former part, I've seen kids muesiums that have small guided plasma tubes, it;s generating the plasma which is the hard part: it takes a fuckton of power.
>>263004542
Frigates are tiny ass ships man. They're the lowest classification a warship can be. Anything smaller is designated a Gunboat, Patrol Boat or the like.
>>263016262
This. The magnetic field is what shapes the blade and prevents it from spewing plasma everywhere.
However, plasma rifles and such are much harder. You have to create a magnetic bottle for the plasma to travel in, which will dissipate quickly as it leaves the weapon.

I hate to be that guy who says "in the expanded universe," but in the novels, this is specifically explained by Covenant science and R&D being essentially nonexistent. They consider it blasphemy to try and innovate on Forerunner technology, and they have an extremely limited understanding of how it works. Consequently a lot of their shit operates at very significantly below peak efficiency.
This is illustrated in one of the novels when Cortana takes control of a Covenant ship. Those plasma cannons the Covenant have that release those dinky little blobs of plasma? Yeah, those things are supposed to be fucking beam weapons. She tears apart an entire Covenant fleet using just one of their own ships.

OH
OH
OH
SHOT FIRED
MUM GET THE CAMERA
How about the Armacham Type-12 Pulse Weapon from Fear. A gun that turns living, breathing human beings with aspirations, insecurities, hopes, and dreams immediately into FUCKING SKELETONS. Imagine how horrifying that would be to see a friend of yours vaporized like that. Imagine what it must feel like to be vaporized like that.
>>263031001
>mfw I'll never get a weapon like that in a free roam FPS game
Why are the best sniper rifle always in the corridors FPS?Exception made for Blood Dragon's sniper rifle who shoots explosive rounds.
>>263031001
Is the magazine on that gun a bookshelf?
Nigga you can't make skeletons by shooting books and shit.
>>263031225
Gives new meaning to changing magazines, eh?
>>263031703
Carlos you fucking cunt.
>>263007103
And tank crews.
>>263031001
>Imagine what it must feel like to be vaporized like that.
Probably not that bad. If the vaporization is instantaneous, you won't really feel anything.
>>262988856
Funny how you imagine the needler, to me it's always been the One NERF Gun to Rule All NERF Guns in gaming.
So why is it that a laser rifle is the most advanced weapon that humanity has in Halo?
>>262997167
>accuse others of being neo-/v/
>spite on a console fps because it's a console fps
>buzzwords:the post
You've been here for one year, maximum.
I can't help it but Halo is so fucking BLAND
The first one was something new, but if you're still dicking around with the same Needler and Grunts ten games later, it just doesn't cut it anymore.
I'd say it's on par with CoD shitting out game after game
>playing Skyrim
>shoots an arrow in someone's leg
>it does nothing
>Deus Ex
>shoots someone's leg
>he's crippled
Come on you piece of shit.
>I'll never get enemies to crawl away from me, both legs mutilated.
>>263032024
Same reason humanity has faster than light spaceships/sentient AI/terraforming tech but still use a pump action shotgun for their military,it's a game.
>>262999174
This.
>>263032331
red dead redemption my friend. also metal gear
>>263032839
But New Vegas has a crippling system like. Why not Skyrim?
Bah, shoulda expected that. Elder Scrolls games are pretty bad. High tier enemies are just damage sponge.
>>263032950
it's bethesda. they're lazy fucks. they just kept the crippling system from the orginal 3 games to put the fallout logo on. if black isle hadn't done criplling, neither would bethesda
>>262992791
WOAH
HOLY SHIT NIGGA WHAT THE FUCK
>>263032950
also, new vegas is done by obsidian
>>263033361
But Skyrim came after New Vegas.
Logically, you would think that whoever did Skyrim would listen to players' complains and look at other games before making their own.
>mfw I remember Oblivion
>mfw I shot 75 arrows in a daedra to finally kill him
This is not what I call fun. It's RPG-like, okay. But making me feel that I'm just petting the monster, no.
>>263033489
>after New Vegas.
again, different develeoper
>>263005037
Can't be right.
>>262991179
they kind of do in halo 2 at the end when the arbiter stands behind Johnson in the cutscene.
Almost everything in R-Type
>mfw all the babbies in this thread
I bet you fags cry when you hear the menu theme.
The Flood needs to make a come back. It would be a step towards making the new Halos less awful.gt

75 arrows?
Heh, I enchanted my bow to fire mini-nukes..25m radius fireball with elemental weakness to further increase the pain
Oblivion is all about the magic upgrades - get in the tower; laugh as you can now tear anything a new hole or three
>>262994501
WERE FOR FUCKING ONCE HAVING A VIDEO GAME DISCUSSION ON /V/ DONT SHITPOST AND RUIN IT
>>263036506
If you had been here for five years you would be familiar with Halo on /v/, since it happened with Halo 3, Halo ODST and Halo Reach. Halo 4 was also widely discussed as well.
Being neo-/v/ has nothing to do with length of time on the board, it's how you act. Right now, you're acting like neo-/v/.

>>262995890
Nonono, use Reach 2 for muh gritty realism. ODST is my fun campy soft piano serenade.
>>262998661
Destiny should rival it in ten years, although most of it is just following the same formulas of alien badguys, ancient races out to fuck everyone else up and crazed AIs (though surprisingly not from Ghost, it's Rasputin the war AI from old Russiawho hopped over to Mars on the comm relay and is hacking the Cabals shit)
>>262999174
best part.. those big brutes in turok 2. They are so dumb, the bore cant find the target.

I cannot be the only person who used the unlimited ammo cheat with the Firestorm Cannon, had a rumble pack on his controller, taped the trigger down and put the controller on my cock. I simply cannot be the only one
Anything with slow petrification like the final fantasy cockatrices.
You can see and feel the unavoidable horrible death coming.
