We have 2 mmos to look forward to and both are so off ahead its depressing. Star Citizen, assuming it ever becomes what they advertise, and Everquest Next. The MMO market tried to pander to casuals and thats what killed it, but now people don't even want to bother with MMOs instead they prefer to to make MOBAs as they are cheaper/easier to make.

Invisible walls aren't as bad as people say but they are still annoying and really disconnect you from the wold. You can't even swim. That same fucking music every time you enter combat..plus there is pretty much no builds other than choosing between abilities. I was disappointed in this game
They died ever since they all turned into gigantic virtual theme-parks. No sense of community, just "get through the content as fast and efficiently as possible so I can get that bigger carrot".
I tolerate GW2 in spite of it's failings, but I know a better game could be made quite easily.
The things MMO's MUST address:
1. Stop playing D&D. 2. Emergent Gameplay (EVE is supposedly good with this, the players themselves drive the "story") 3. Let players play a role. I might actually be interested in a game where it wasn't all about combat, like becoming the merchant, selling stuff to other players, and managing your shop. Perhaps going out with a friend to guard you while looking for loot.
Otherwise if people want theme-parks, why not let them build it themselves? It could be like a mix of Dungeon Keeper, SWG (I heard players could actually build their own cities), and physics based combat like most brawlers do, with some Legend of Zelda elements thrown in.
Currently playing Vindictus myself, but there is very little sense of community, and so I will eventually get bored, probably when I get a couple alts to 50 or so.
It is really community that makes or breaks a MMO for me (and others in this thread, it seems.)
Played WoW for so long because I had friends and made friends in it. When they stopped playing, I got bored. I am hoping Corecraft has a decent community, where I would be able to do stuff with cool people every now and then. If it doesn't, it certainly wont hold my interest for long.

I'm going to have to agree on this. Vanilla Wow and BC were fucking awesome. I had so much fun. The game is just so different from what it use to be. Leveling use to take MONTHS. You can level up toons so fast nowadays it's not even funny.
I played during all of the expansions and nothing came close to even touching how glorious that game use to be. MoP was my last one. Got to 90, farmed 10k dino bones for the albino raptor mount and then quit a few weeks later.
Once I get a new PC I can see myself actually playing again but only for PvP.... and only a level 19 twink rogue.
>>262396643 this is always seems to happen. me and my buddy got into MoP for a while, made a guild and attempted to do raids but it ended up just falling apart. one of us stopped playing as often and the other followed suit.
WoW was still fairly fun to just play by yourself since you didn't really need a group of friends for it but having those few friends who do play with you just elevate the experience so much more.

Don't be fooled that it's a "sandbox" though. All of this shit died in eve the second coalitions became a thing.

I made most of my friends i still have today from vanilla/tbc wow but i lost contact with so many others, i really wish i had told them i had a steam account so they could stay in contact but most have just stopped or switched character.
I spent one night on Hydraxian isle in Azshara just dancing with our co-joined guild to Queen for hours and discussing things after a MC run.
i've gone back to old school runescape.. the game itself is not very fun to play but getting levels and drops is cool.. plus runescape did stuff a way no other mmo does.. no binded gear.. quest system.. be any and everything type of stuff
im gonna try archeage too but worried about cash shop
why does wow have to change? fuck all my best memories of wow were during the hundreds of trials i created with my friend, we would both make horde hunters, level as fast as possible to 10 then we would make the long ass trek all the way to the human starting point and gank till the 80s came running we would die, wait for them to leave and do it all over again

Not being stuck in a certain class (it might be good, it could be GW but with even more options, it could also be fucking nothing). And honestly, this is just me being psyched, but god damnit, have there been a few good looking buildings coming and the like coming out of their "the workshop" thingy. I hope its a quality that can stay ingame as well.
>>262401871 The problem I have with MOP is that from a gameplay perspective, its pretty damn good. Everything feels tight, the classes are rather simple but kind of fun. However an MMO really should be about social interactions and WoW no longer has any of them. If people ask you something, nowadays its quite often for their own benefit and not for the benefit of both of you (compare request to powerlevel somebody to request to go in a dungeon of appropriate level with them). And with that transformation from social to not social, it also destroyed the feeling of the game being a world your character lives in. Instead it fully becomes a game and nothing more.
